I saw UFO and Rush together live in 1978 at the Santa Monica Civic. Beyond incredible pairing. One of the top live concerts of my lifetime. Thanks for loving UFO Phil and keep up doing God's work! Cheers!
This is a bitter sweet album for me, i still have my 1978 release but it's the beginning of the end of the Schenker era. Having said that, I can't wait for my triple vinyl set to arrive!! Great review! 🍻
Superb album , sometimes later in life you revisit bands , song , albums and hear it again with older ears and eyes ... sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse . Absolute classic band and a very underrated front man in Phil Mogg 🛸🛸🛸
This is a good album and cd edition of UFO and their Obsession LP especially with Michael Schenker in the band at the time and this is another favorite band of mine thanks again Phil.🎶🎤🎸🎸🎹🥁🎶
Obsession was always my favourite UFO album. Schenkers lead fills on tracks like Pack it Up, You Don’t Fool Me and One More For the Rodeo, just brilliant.
"Obsession" is my favorite UFO album. Always was! Michael Schenker is out of this world on this one. Probably the best guitar playing I've ever heard. Not to mention his tone! The Best guitar tone - EVER! And, a surprise bonus, for the time of its release in 1978.......the new awesome UFO band logo in that lovely bright crimson red color. "Obsession" is easily in my 'Top Five' list of 70's rock albums.💥😉💫
Hi Phil. Wish I'd had even an inkling of how great UFO were back in '78. Long Live Rock'n'Roll was the album of the year for me, no contest - Obsession would've been the other one if I'd known about it. Strangers in the Night really brought UFO up to the UK Top 10, and to the attention of teens like us. As you implied, there's a lot of raw emotion on the songs, from the heaviest (You Don't Fool Me and One More For The Rodeo) to the ballads (Looking Out For Number One and Born To Lose). Mogg and Schenker both excel, but the whole band sound heroic, like Lizzy and Rainbow at the time. If only Only You Can Rock Me had been a bigger hit - it was their Boys Are Back in Town. It's great that UFO's albums are getting attention now. Cheers!
Phil, you’ve got an inside connection, getting these pre-release! This might be my favorite UFO studio album of all time. Getting the CD version on pre order soon
This is my favourite UFO album without a doubt. I've been patiently waiting for this reissue for a long time. They were an amazing band that did not get the recognition lesser bands received.
Just got the 2CD reissue today. It rocks! Very clear sound quality in the mix, still a bit trebly but great imaging in parts and overall a very clear, detailed remaster. I’ve always felt that this album has some of the best guitar work from Michael on any of their studio albums. Though Michael’s lead tone sounds fairly processed here with guitar effects like reverb, this mix makes picking out even faster individual notes from Michael’s many solos and fills easier than I remember from past editions. Liner notes are very informative, pointing me in the direction of the Rock Bottom solo from the Columbus OH show as being Michael’s own favored rendition of it. It IS astounding (but not on this disc) and quite different from the Strangers in the Night classic version we all know and love. The bonus live CD is also remixed in a more raw, live and close up way. It’s a great demo of how great UFO was live. The whole package sounds great. I’ve never heard it sound better. Highly recommended, even if you already have an older version of it.
Obsession was a stellar album just before Strangers (the UFO live double) in 1978….Michael was firing on all cylinders with brilliant work with smooth slide harmonies and real virtuoso soloing. He had used a pig nose amplifier on Lights Out album which he didn’t like and had gone back to using the Marshall again…Alan McMillan was conducting and composing beautiful orchestral backdrops…Some of the songs were beautiful and Paul Raymond may have been involved with that writing. Yes, Mother Mary on Strangers was not on their live Set to audiences when they recorded Strangers but this live version with no audience was just incredible…Michael’s virtuosity was mind boggling . Melodic, emotional intensity …Yes, he and Phil Mogg worked really well together …Born to Lose was one of the most beautiful solos Michael ever played. (Paul)
I love this album, Phil! At the time this was released however, I always thought the production was a bit 'buddy', but it's really grown on me over the years! Now, I just love it!! 🤘👍
Hello Phil 👋, Great review as usually 👍 I have preordered the vinyl edition (that will well complete my collection with the previous other deluxe releases by Chrysalis). For this album unfortunately it wasn’t available on Amazon, EMP or Fnac for France. So I bought it on a music store in Danemark (imusic) by internet, for a European delivery. Now I wait to enjoy the listening 🤘
Like you Phil that red 7" I still have with the Frisbee offer! This new cd will be on order! Back in the day Thin Lizzy and UFO were my main bands in the 70's 👍
This is a great heavy metal album from the 1970s. I hope for future reissues, cassette tapes would also be included. After all many of us are multi format fans !
I got into UFO at the same time that you did with that red vinyl "Only You Can Rock Me" single - albeit my copy has long since gone. "Obsession" has always been my favourite UFO and Schenker studio albums, though the others all come a very close second - and I don't think there has ever been a bad UFO album anyway. I shall get this when it's released. I hope they continue these remasters into "No Place To Run" and afterwards because it's that era that seems to have been largely ignored in terms of additional session tracks and live concerts, I think the Schenker years have been "done to death" now, albeit I have bought every single release on CD (and even thinking of getting the vinyls just to collect them).
Thanks for the review Phil, I also bought and still have - and its going nowhere - that red vinyl Only you can rock me, and I never sent off for the frisbee. Having already got the 2008 version and the Strangers box set I was reticent to buy again, however you've just convinced me of the necessity to do so, as I already consider the Stranger box set to be the pinnacle of Schenker UFO live but if the remix is even better then its an essential purchase, not to forget those versions of Mother Mary and This Kids. I also never had Obsession on vinyl as I had it on Cassette, buying it from my local record store after winning enough cash to do so on a fruit machine in the local cafe. I've still got that tape as well. For me the run of albums UFO put out from No Heavy Petting to Mechanix is just totally brilliant and my favourite is usually the one i'm listening to at the time though I have a real soft spot for No Heavy Petting and No Place to Run although Lights Out was my first, and what better way to get into them.
Hi Phil, let’s hope the wild willing and the innocent gets a reboot to I’ve got two original copies of obsession (one with original poster ) but now I have 3, cheers Phil great review has always 👍
Force It will always be my favorite, and No Place to Run was my introduction to the band, but it's hard to rank UFO albums. Because "The Wild Willing and the Innocent has grown on me too; as well as Mechanix.
Easily my favourite UFO album along with the best guitar statements that I've heard from Schenker ... I played truant from school to go and buy this album when it was released after hearing Hot 'n' Ready on a local radio rock show .
Obsession was an album I bought because I loved the cover.......once I heard what was on the disc, I never looked back. Obsession was at the time, the best mixed UFO album. The others just never had the true bottom end power of Way/Parker........the first time I heard Pack it Up was life changing
I agree with your review - all UFO is fantastic - however = Force it and No Heavy Petting are special. No Heavy Petting precursor to Lovedrive and the Scorpions sound. UFO is one of the greatest bands ever - masterclass in classic hard rock guitar. Andy Parker sensational drummer. Just one mention - anyone wanting the tone on the 2 albums mentioned should check of the Sentell Albino Zebra Humbucker for their guitar.
Looks interesting! Some really good strong songs mixed with a few fairly weak tracks unfortunately. Would have been more complete with studio version of On With The Action. Still not sure how Mother Mary and Let It Roll feature
In my opinion. The 2007-2008 remastered versions, sound louder. I've never liked Andy Pearce remasters. He has a quiet ear. I've done many comparisons. I haven't picked up Lights Out or this new Obsession versions. I assume Andy did these also. Obsession was originally, a very "thin" recording to begin with.
I agree with LIghts Out being a better album. A few weeks ago I listened to Obsession for the first time since I bought it in the late'70's, and it was for me completely underwhelming. I like a few tracks, but really not anything great.
UFO Obsession is my favorite album of all time period. It spent the most amount of time on my turntable. Brilliant
@@timguzz8844 my feelings exactly! Thanks to my older brother , 45 yrs ago I discovered this rock gem!
Saw them twice on the tour incredible
still obsessed with obsession
I saw UFO and Rush together live in 1978 at the Santa Monica Civic. Beyond incredible pairing. One of the top live concerts of my lifetime. Thanks for loving UFO Phil and keep up doing God's work! Cheers!
you are very lucky
Fantastic review. Thanks very much Phil. This is my favourite UFO album.
Such a great album!🎸🛸
0:37 - there are also some excellent soundboard live recordings of Iggy (w/ Bowie!) and AC/DC at the Angora (both '77)... UFO were in GREAT company!
This is a bitter sweet album for me, i still have my 1978 release but it's the beginning of the end of the Schenker era. Having said that, I can't wait for my triple vinyl set to arrive!! Great review! 🍻

My favorite as well ! The first side has everything that makes a great rock album!!!
Saw this tour in the Liverpool Empire in 1978. Schenker was outstanding !
Hi was indeed
I saw them also at The Birmingham Town Hall

I also bought Only You on day of release. I got the album a couple of weeks later. Love it. Happy with my original vinyl tbf

Most excellent review, Phil - interesting to hear the sound is so improved 👍

Hello Phil 👋,

Phil, thanks for the review. I pre-ordered the cd set some time ago and really looking forward to its delivery. Kind regards
Thanks Phil, major UFO fan growing up! Looking forward to hearing this!🙏🏻🎧
Excelente video. Gracias, la compraré en CD, ya tengo las versiones deluxe de los primeros 3 con Michael Schenker
Thank you Phil! As a huge fan of UFO I love all these reviews of one of my favorite bands..Truly a magical time for music
Hey Phil. Another great breakdown & review. Appreciate all your hard work! Cheers
Like you Phil that red 7" I still have with the Frisbee offer! This new cd will be on order! Back in the day Thin Lizzy and UFO were my main bands in the 70's 👍
Can't wait for this one!! Pre ordered . All the remastered vinyl are great from the reissues series
This is a great heavy metal album from the 1970s. I hope for future reissues, cassette tapes would also be included. After all many of us are multi format fans !
Great review Phil. Thank you for sharing.
One of my all time favourite albums! It has a real special vibe of its own almost nowhere else to find, even with other UFO albums from that area.
I got into UFO at the same time that you did with that red vinyl "Only You Can Rock Me" single - albeit my copy has long since gone.

Magnífica reseña,he visto a UFO tres veces en directo y una Michael Schenker, son una leyenda, estoy deseando pillarlos!UFO Forever!.
Great review Phil! I have ordered both now. UFOrever. : )
Thanks for the review Phil, I also bought and still have - and its going nowhere - that red vinyl Only you can rock me, and I never sent off for the frisbee.

Hi Terry, thank you for sharing - I really appreciate it - Phil
Yep, I had the single in red vinyl.
I wouldnt mind a Madfish giant UFO Box Set 👍🍺
I bought the tape back in the 70's Can't find where I have it now but I've preordered the cd and might even get the record too.
so many incredible deep cuts
Easily my favourite UFO album along with the best guitar statements that I've heard from Schenker ... I played truant from school to go and buy this album when it was released after hearing Hot 'n' Ready on a local radio rock show .
On order Phil cds and vinyls❤
Mother Mary/This Kids have always been my favorite song(s) from SITN. One of the best live albums EVER!
great band great album
UFO "Obession" is my all time Schenker Studio Album...he plays nonstop Lead Guitar on all Songs...who remastered this New Version?
Obsession was an album I bought because I loved the cover.......once I heard what was on the disc, I never looked back.
Obsession was at the time, the best mixed UFO album.
The others just never had the true bottom end power of Way/Parker........the first time I heard Pack it Up was life changing

It would of been nice if it also came with the Frisbee.
would you recommend either the vinyl or cd version please.
Hoping Chrysalis continues with these reissues with the Chapman albums.
Looks interesting! Some really good strong songs mixed with a few fairly weak tracks unfortunately. Would have been more complete with studio version of On With The Action. Still not sure how Mother Mary and Let It Roll feature

Is the live disc noticeably better than the Strangers Box release?
Yes it is !
@NowSpinningMagazine ordered! Thanks!
The pinnacle of 1970's hard rock...
So is the series continuing for the Paul Chapman era? 🤔
I hope so !
Chrysalis do make mistakes, my recent Jethro Tull box sets have date of 2104 instead of 2014 😂😂😂😂😂😂
So, do you think they will continue beyond the Schenker-Stuff? Or jump right to the reunion? Or is that it?
Not sure!
👍👍
Still have the frisbee ?
Never sent off for it as it would have meant cutting the sleeve up!
I still say No Heavy Petting and Lights out are better releases. Just sayin
I agree with LIghts Out being a better album. A few weeks ago I listened to Obsession for the first time since I bought it in the late'70's, and it was for me completely underwhelming. I like a few tracks, but really not anything great.
Hopefully these reissues will continue with the Tonka era.
