My big brother, Master Da Yoda, has been wanting to go snorkeling in Tenkawa Village in Nara.
We finally made it in early August!
We used the day camp at the Mizunomi Campground. For 600 yen per person, we could use the parking lot, toilets, changing rooms, and garbage disposal service.
The campground had excellent access to the Tenno-kawa River, the headwaters of the Kumano River, which flows next to the campground. We were very lucky to be able to use this place without booking in advance.
We went down the stairs and arrived at the river. What a clear river!
It shone emerald blue with sunshine.
We took a plunge into the beautiful river.
    How cold the water was!
The moment we entered the water, we saw a lot of fish.
I had never seen so many ayu fish swimming together.
Master Da Yoda was also surprised to see a school of ayu fish swimming together.
Perhaps it was the beginning of August and they were still young that they didn't need to fight for territory.
Ayu fish, amago, and Japanese dace were swimming together. It was amazing. And the water was so cold that Master Da Yoda became a chilled kappa and I became a chilled doggie.
I jumped into the river for the first time. Master Da Yoda was good at it, but I was too scared to jump in.
Still, I summoned up all my courage and jumped in, and it felt so good!
I had no idea that swimming in a river could be so cool and refreshing.
I didn't realize how cold and cool it was to swim in the river in the middle of summer.
I am confident that it is the best way to escape from the humid and hot summer in Japan!
After a lot of swimming with ayu fish and getting chilled, we decided to head back to our lodgings.
Today's lodging was at the "Kurotaki Forest Story Village, Mori no Koryukan.
For dinner, we had ayu kaiseki cuisine, a traditional Japanese multi-course meal with varieties of dishes using ayu fish. It was so good and delicious served with great care and hospitality.
