I’m new to bird watching and I saw my first woodpecker today on the suet feeder. After a few minutes a couple of starlings scared him off. I’m so going to try this tonight, thank you so much!!!

This is EXACTLY why I got on UA-cam today. I typed in "suet upsidedown" and there you were!!! 💋

Thank you Sir! The parasite birds (starlings) have realized there's food here so this is perfect to keep feeding my songbirds and my woodpecker friends! The Nuthatches always love being upside down as it is here, love them! I will be making these in addition to the tube feeders the starlings cannot grip. Subscribed too!

Love this! Took down my suet feeders because of all the starlings. Now, I can put them back out!

Excellent idea and also a deterrent for starlings!

This looks like it will do the trick and it will save me paying $25 for a commercial one. Red wing black birds gorging themselves on our woodpecker's suet. I was thinking about building a wooden one but this might be a better idea. Thanks for posting.

The starlings try to fly under, occasionally will hang on for a second, but aren't very successful. I have to chuckle. Great idea!

I DID THIS WITH ANOTHER CONTAINER SIZE, BUT, GLUE WASHERS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE HOLE TO HELP SAVE THE HOLES MORE... HAPPY BIRD FEEDING...

I thought the upside down feeders were simply a new design element to appease humans until I learned why they were good. The starlings are voracious. Some of the local woodpeckers are not the brightest bulbs in the pack so I didn't want to put out too much money until I was sure it would work. What a great way to repurpose my existing feeder as a test run.

IDK about you but those commercial suet cakes that are available at farm stores, TSC, Murdochs & so on they don't attract my birds (yes, squirrels too). So, I found a recipe that attracts them all. If you want it I'll post it here, so let me know. It works where the commercial cakes do not work for me. And it contains food that most of us have eaten in some form or other. I did make a similar upside down suet feeder too. Thanks!
