You will discover that Mastodon is one of those band that each song is different from the other, same for the albums so you might really like one and absoluptly hate another one! Very Prog!
This song is always crazy live. The chorus and the bridge after the guitar solo thing gets the crowd hyped up like crazy. "SPLIT YOUR LUNGS WITH BLOOD AND THUNDER!"
Absolutely. But I think Oblivion would be a better intro song. I did love March Of The Fire Ants from the first note though, and it still has a special place for me.
Mastodon is cool as hell..they're newer stuff is all about story telling and visual artistry within they're videos. The hunter is a great some off they're 3rd album about the singers brother. Kind of a sad song but its dope
Mastodon is one of my favourite bands and not really because of "Blood and Thunder". It's powerful and great for headbanging, but my intro song was "Asleep In the deep" That's really interesting and far more melodic one. And it's their later song, not from early years so it's not as heavy as Blood and Thunder. But it's very good and has interesting sound, it got me into the band and i fell in love with their different melodies and riffs and experiments. They have various music but have their own style at the same time! a talentend band!
Yeah lol, whenever I would go on a car ride with my dad when I was like 4 or 5, he would play his leviathan album all the time. For me I think it was megalodon .
Mastadon is through and through an album band if you listen to single songs it'll never make sense. If someone can actually listen (pay attention) and front to back remission and not get hyped when trainwreck plays.
Yes Alex finally you react to one of my favourite bands! Saw them live in Glasgow back in December and the pit was absolutely insane! Please react to Machine Head - Halo
Finally some Mastodon! They are my favorite band and I've seen them live 5 times and they blow my mind every time. But I gotta say, all these reaction videos always react to the same Mastodon songs. The band is so diverse and has so much more to offer than Blood and Thunder and Oblivion. I'd like to see a reaction to maybe Megalodon or a recent song like Blue Walsh or Jaguar God.
I don't think he's ready for the earlier albums. He like Beyond Oblivion, though. I'd go back to Vengeance Falls ("Strife" imo) then maybe something off In Waves before Shogun/Ascendancy.
Please listen to Ne Obliviscaris man. Seriously they are amazing. Best drummer I've ever heard and bassist and everyone are amazing. There's a good live version too and I'd love to see your reaction to their amazing skills.
BLIND GUARDIAN - IMAGINATIONS FROM THE OTHER SIDE please do it. PLEASE It's not some generic power metal song and lyrically it's not about some cliché fantasy story but it's about the loss of childhood, innocence, fantasy and fascination. The "narrator" can no longer hold onto them, and feels “stranded in the real world.” (pull up the lyrics for this) Oh and some extra information: The sound engineering/production was done by the same guy who did it for Metallica "Ride the lightning" "master of puppets" and "And justice for all"
Troy Sanders on Mastodon's early stuff is sort of an acquired taste if you don't know what to expect. I instantly loved his style when I heard Remission for the first time. It really sounds prehistoric, and gets you so hyped you chop down a mountain.
You HAVE TO do reaction to Serj Tankian - Harakiri, it's just so meaningful song with powerful and deep lyrics you will either cry or get so emotional to the point you'll eventually cry anyway. A MUST DO! And by the way, Serj Tankian is vocalist from System of a Down, band you already got to know.
Top 3 you MUST react. - As I Lay Dying - My Own Grave (Brutal and Melodic) - August Burns Red - Beauty in Tragedy (Powerfull lyrics) - Feed Her To The Sharks - Shore of Loneliness (Amazing Clean Vocals)
Check out Knocked Loose - Billy No Mates // Counting Worms and Code Orange - Forever They are both way different than anything you've listened to yet, you definitely have to check out some Hardcore Bands. Stagedives and high fives!
Mastodon first 4 albums, technically 5 of you count call of the mastodon their 1st album, were elemental themed. Leviathan being their 2nd full length (3rd with Call) was water themed. Crack the Skye, their 4th (5th with call), was air themed. Hope this helps
The main clown in this video is named Laffo. He was in a band called "Greasepaint" with Puddles Pity Party (Big Mike Geier), who was a competitor on America's Got Talent last year. Puddles was in a prototype state in Greasepaint. Nothing like he is today. Both Mastodon and Puddles hail from Atlanta.
Bill Kelliher (the rhythm guitarist) has said that Leviathan was inspired by the water element, keeping in line with the four elements of their first four albums, namely fire for Remission, water for Leviathan, earth for Blood Mountain and air for Crack the Skye. I heard you comment on Brann's drumming, and he's incredible. I absolutely love this song, but I didn't start out here (started out on Emperor of Sand, inb4 "not real metalhead" crucifixion) and I didn't love it when I first heard it. I'd say you have to already like the band to appreciate this song. Check out some of the newer stuff, I know you'll appreciate it.
I like this guy's videos more and more. I grew up with the bands he has been checking out and only later got into hip hop so it's interesting to see an opposite perspective.
Basing Leviathan on Moby Dick was inspired by the band's love/hate obsession with touring. They love playing live, but hate travelling and being away from their families. The white whale is a metaphor for the white van they used to tour in, in their early days. You should react to The Motherload and if you wanna check out another track from Leviathan, you should give Megalodon a listen.
I love this song, clowns and all because its metal and clowns, together you have a multiplier of freaking people the (heck) out! I'd give a leg just to be casted into this video, its just sick!
Yes Alex well done you made it to mastodon been waiting for ever. You should watch a drum cover of this track to full appreciate what brann dailor is doing on the drums. He is like a machine gun on that kit and by far my fav drummer of all time.
The way the vocals sound "weird", is maybe because they are not any louder / clearer than the instruments, that's how Mastodon mixes their audio: They all sing and there is not one single vocalist or frontman taking any more spotlight than the other members. The vocals sink into the music and make it a whole.
"White whale; Holy grail" was what we were all chanting when they came onstage at the opera house in Toronto... amazing show, they were touring just after Crack the Skye dropped...blew my mind
Mastodon are my dudes, you are correct The video doesn't have any link to the song. The video was shot at a bar in Little 5 Points in Atlanta called the "Star Bar". the clowns in the video and people in the crowd are the bands friends. I love this video because i know so many people in it. Ive actually seen Mastodon play that club before. they had ZERO budget to make this. everyone in it volunteered and made it crazy because they are our dudes and we love Mastodon. ATL AS FUCK!! Mastodon is ATlanta and Atlanta is Mastodon. (watch the video for "the motherload")
Yo its great you watched this first and are going straight into Oblivion. It will show you their rang as a band and if you watch "The Motherload" or "Show yourself" you're gunna be pulled in another more pop rock direction and be amazed that this was where they came from. Also do some good research on the Crack the Skye album its a sad story at its core but played out as an epic journey. Also HEELLLLS YEAH HE DID MASTODON!!
ändrew Salter how is as i lay dying gay? Bullet are ok on my opinion. I like some of their songs. Im not into a lot of metalcore either. I like killswitch, parkway and as i lay dying. And personally i think that as i lay dying is the best metalcore band out there. Now personally i dont like sabbath and gojira. I respect their work, i would listen to them on the radio in the car or something but i dont like them as much as other bands. I know that im gonna get hate for that but im gonna say one more thing which there is no way that someone would not tell me to kill myself. I dont like pantera. I dont like some bands either but i would never call another band gay just because i dont like their songs.
You are what's wrong with Metal now, i listen to Death and other heavy stuff too but you have to remember that not everyone likes that. The world doesn't revolve around you.
Devin Townsend - Bastard or Deadhead Live @ Royal Albert Hall, both songs are absolutely amazing and Devin is one of the greatest Artists I've ever heard, and his voice is soo freakin godlike
Slugdge - The Spectral Burrows Also shout out to Lost in Vegas. This album may be about Moby Dick, but we all know Ahab's The Call of the Wretched Sea IS Moby Dick, which you should also totally do eventually, although I don't think you're ready for that type of heaviness.
Oblivion belongs to the Crack the Skye album which is also a concept album and its about a paraplegic man who is stuck to a wheel chair and wants to explore the world and goes into astral projection and the cord that connects the astral body and the actual body is severed because he tried to go too close to the Sun and stuck in spirit world and the spirit world masters put his astral body in Rasputin’s body and is now transported to Russia’s Rasputin times and when Rasputin is killed Rasputin and paraplegic souls are set free and Rasputin helps the paraplegic to get back to his real body by protecting the paraplegic’s astral body from the Devil. Now you have a clue why Crack the skye album has a near trippy experience and the atmospheric incarnation of this album’s music shows a dramatic shift from their sludge metal grittiness and it seems so ethereal in this album that it complements dimension transcending mystic aura of the album’s concept. Anyways it’s awesome that you took on Blood and thunder. Their previous albums are much more heavier than Leviathan. Waiting for your Oblivion reaction. Cheers man
You will discover that Mastodon is one of those band that each song is different from the other, same for the albums so you might really like one and absoluptly hate another one! Very Prog!
This. For example I LOVED Crack the Skye front to back. The rest of their music, no thanks.
SaralaAnne What about Emperor of Sand
CosmicG777 I wasn't a fan. I gave it a shot but it fell flat
CosmicG777 it felt like "The Hunter part 3" for me.
RERDITI RÉRTHZ Which album did you feel like was The Hunter pt. 2?
This song is always crazy live. The chorus and the bridge after the guitar solo thing gets the crowd hyped up like crazy. "SPLIT YOUR LUNGS WITH BLOOD AND THUNDER!"
Mastodon - March Of The Fire Ants
Absolutely. But I think Oblivion would be a better intro song.
I did love March Of The Fire Ants from the first note though, and it still has a special place for me.
YEEEESSSSS It's unfortunate the production quality is such poop for that album, but it is, imo, their best work.
Mastodon is cool as hell..they're newer stuff is all about story telling and visual artistry within they're videos. The hunter is a great some off they're 3rd album about the singers brother. Kind of a sad song but its dope
"Singers brother" I mean you're not wrong lmao
@@floatingdisembodiedhead8975 huh?
Mastodon is one of my favourite bands and not really because of "Blood and Thunder". Yeah lol, whenever I would go on a car ride with my dad when I was like 4 or 5, he would play his leviathan album all the time. For me I think it was megalodon .
Mine was Divination but damn Leviathan still blows me away.
Mastadon is through and through an album band if you listen to single songs it'll never make sense. If someone can actually listen (pay attention) and front to back remission and not get hyped when trainwreck plays.

Yeah Alex do what this guy says
Mastodon did an entire concept album based on Moby Dick called "Leviathan" and Blood and Thunder is just one track from it.
Mastodon first 4 albums, technically 5 of you count call of the mastodon their 1st album, were elemental themed. Leviathan being their 2nd full length (3rd with Call) was water themed. Crack the Skye, their 4th (5th with call), was air themed. Hope this helps

PlexyPanda even better!!
Bill Kelliher (the rhythm guitarist) has said that Leviathan was inspired by the water element, keeping in line with the four elements of their first four albums, namely fire for Remission, water for Leviathan, earth for Blood Mountain and air for Crack the Skye. Finnally my FAVORITE BAND, gets some love.
Blind Guardian - Mirror mirror
Avantasia - Reach out for the light
Theocracy - Hide in the fairy tale
Kamelot - The Haunting
Basing Leviathan on Moby Dick was inspired by the band's love/hate obsession with touring. They love playing live, but hate travelling and being away from their families. The white whale is a metaphor for the white van they used to tour in, in their early days.

As i lay dying-my own grave!!! Cheers from México!
I love this song, clowns and all because its metal and clowns, together you have a multiplier of freaking people the (heck) out! I'd give a leg just to be casted into this video, its just sick!

*Confused head bopping intensifies*
Yes Alex well done you made it to mastodon been waiting for ever. You should watch a drum cover of this track to full appreciate what brann dailor is doing on the drums. He is like a machine gun on that kit and by far my fav drummer of all time.
From what I believe it wasn't just Blood and Thunder that was based on Moby Dick, but the entire album that it featured on.
The way the vocals sound "weird", is maybe because they are not any louder / clearer than the instruments, that's how Mastodon mixes their audio: They all sing and there is not one single vocalist or frontman taking any more spotlight than the other members. The vocals sink into the music and make it a whole.
AnGeL ViVaLdI my dude. I notice you like solos with melody. That's literally what all his songs are

Mastodon are my dudes, you are correct The video doesn't have any link to the song. Mastodon is the only band that have all members do vocals.. Great band
I also appreciate how when you were talking about clowns and said you would rather look at something else... the next scene was nasty toilet shot 🤣
Devin Townsend - Bastard or Deadhead Live @ Royal Albert Hall, both songs are absolutely amazing and Devin is one of the greatest Artists I've ever heard, and his voice is soo freakin godlike
Slugdge - The Spectral Burrows
Also shout out to Lost in Vegas. This album may be about Moby Dick, but we all know Ahab's The Call of the Wretched Sea IS Moby Dick, which you should also totally do eventually, although I don't think you're ready for that type of heaviness.
Maximum the Hormone - Whats Up People
Insomnium - While We Sleep
My man! Gotta check out Clutch now, Mastodon and Clutch have been fairly close since both of their inceptions.
Asleep in the deep the best song my mastodon
