Actually, I don't know how to play this game, Dom. This game is nothing like the one I grew up with. In that game, you built the trap as you went, and the end was a circle track around the net. I'm not even sure there was cheese, because you were traying to trap the other players. But that was like thirty years ago.
I have never even seen mouse trap game IRL. It wasn't something that was popular in my country. Snake and Latter is also another one of those we didn't seem to have here. And then all people expect you just know these games. RIP me. xD
I can't be sure our versions were the same, but it definitely had cheese - pretty sure you spent it to lure the other mice under the net. Frankly, I liked getting to build the contraption. Pre-game set-up was far less a problem! I appreciate a bit of suspense over the impatient need for instant gratification.
Yeah, the version I remember was building the trap, including a crank to pull back the stop sign and the "helping hand" instead of that broom/bucket thing (dear god was the helping hand a nightmare, basically the little ball hit the base of a pole which dislodged a larger ball at the top towards the bath, except it often refused to wobble enough)
That's what I was thinking...I was sure there was nowhere near that many capture attempts in the version I played as a kid, and I do vaguely remember having to assemble it during play.
seeing the board and hearing about collecting cheese pieces made me think the game must have changed a lot since i was little... i looked it up and turns out the mouse trap i grew up with in the 90s must have been the original pre-1975 version. guess my grandma still had it from when my dad was a kid! (it was terrible, you spent most of the game going round and round the final circle waiting for someone to get trapped)
It must be so annoying the electricity going off while he was laughing maniacally and screaming "it's alive! it's alive!" after creating another version of "Monopoly But".
They've really changed Mouse Trap since I was a lad, it wasn't a full loop on the board back then, it was a linier path with a smaller loop at the end back in those days!
14 minutes in and I think that if you send the other person's mouse to the trap you should be electricuted if it fails... that would make the game more house rule style. Winning is great but losing is painful too.

Done right it actually isn't painful at all, and feels pretty nice (though very weird).
I had a horrific knee injury in my teens and had electro-therapy in between icing, massage, and exercise as part of the physiotherapy. I found it quite pleasant at therapeutic levels, tbh.

Poor Teri, I would have thought she would have had a little too much fun shocking these two! As for future ideas, here is a few I have come up with: - Sequence: Each time an one-eyed Jack is picked up, that player takes a shot, two-eyed jack that player gets shocked and if they get an ace of any suit, the player who gets both - Chess: Considering the length of time a game can be played, it will be timed chess, each time a player is checked they take a shot, each time a piece is taken they are shocked and dependent on the piece how long they are shocked for, so a pawn will be shorter than the Queen being taken for example. - Game of Strife: With new cards, careers etc, perhaps having a third track, so instead of college or career, you also have UA-camr? :P
When used correctly it actually does do wonders for pain relief. You are only supposed to turn it up to the point where it just starts being felt. Turn it up higher than that and well you know what happens. I've been using one of these units myself due to a pretty severe back injury
I was about to say I think the trap is rigged, the first two times worked flawlessly. I'm glad the Cheese Gods decided to make it how I remembered after all, where the trap doesn't work
