Yeah, he was marked correctly. I would have placed the Short Programs as 1. Stojko - 5.8/5.8 - best jumps and difficult music to skate to while sustaining the energy and interest level the whole time, but he pulls it off 2. Eldredge - 5.8/5.7 - smaller jumps but the best spins by far 3. Kulik - 5.7/5.8 - makes a mistake on the combination spin 4. Yagudin - 5.7/5.6 - definitely only deserved 4th; still skates a bit Juniorish 5. Candeloro - 5.5/5.7 - the 3-2 combination costs him on the tech mark
I found Yagudin's jumps wild at this time. Wild positions and rotation, not very clean and precies. I agree Stojko was never elegant but that is the last word I would have used for Yagudin's overall skating at this point in time either. To each their own. Thanks for your response.
He did not have the best SP at all. His spins and footwork were by far the worst of the top 4. His jumps were huge but the position but the flow coming out of them wasnt as strong as the top 3. His overall presentation was significantly below the top 3 as well. I wouldnt have even though of putting him any higher then 4th, and am not surprised hardly any of the judges did either.
It's a wonderful performance! Thank you for posting that! Alexei was so cute and his skill was amazing!
Yagudin is the best!
He had a severe case of pneumonia in this competition.

How was this better then either Stojko or Eldredge who were 2nd and 3rd in the short?
