A 'bad rip-off' means similar but not the same. I doubt they were trying to be a 'good copy', otherwise they'd be in calling themselves DirengreyTribute. Fortunately, as you've pointed out, they don't sound very much like DIR. They're just changing their style back to the harder music they played during Play Dolls era, with the bonus of a leadsinger who's no longer tonedeaf and expanded his vocal range tenfold. Now if they'd only copy DIR by re-recording their original songs. That would be :D !!
