As long as the operators hesitate in closing the gates, this behaviour will continue. In North America once the gates start to close, they close. There are no remote operators, the train triggers the closure .
I was on a dart train about 22.00 on a friday night a couple of years ago heading home to Dun Laoghaire from Connolly station. This happened at the crossing shown at 1:29 , the merrion gates. The driver had to slam on the breaks. I was sitting in the seats directly behind the drivers cab. I heard him shout jesus christ prior to breaking . The hard application of the breaks threw me out of my seat into the seat infront and the back wall of the drivers cab. The driver came over the train p.a apologising for his sharpe breaking and said 3 kids , then he qualified his comment, 3 numpties ran infront of the train. When i got out of the train in Dun Laoghaire the driver was leaning out of his window looking at the cctv screen to see when to shut the train doors. I asked him was he ok but you could see he was still shocked.
If those drivers who floor the pedal cross level crossings think they can beat it every time, they should think again. I’m compiling a list of level crossing misuse videos around the world, and I came across an old news clip from Taiwan that reported on the aftermath of a level crossing accident there between a car and a train. Like some of the drivers shown in this video, the car’s driver thought he could floor through and beat the already-down level crossing, only to be hit perfectly spot-on by the oncoming train (which was travelling above 100 km/h at the time of the accident); the driver of the car died on the spot and it also injured a passenger on a station platform that was down from the level crossing, due to debris from the accident hitting her. You can see the news clip here (in Chinese), which includes CCTV footage of the accident itself: ua-cam.com/video/LV8c6PAspEs/v-deo.html
This is what network rail needs to put on the crossings when the yellow light comes on a fence should pop up until the gates go down and when they are down the fence goes back up it would stop the amount of missues and deaths
I would like to see them try this in front of a mile-long, fully loaded, freight train in middle America. Thats when you realize there can be an Awful price to stupidity
Do these gates have sensors ? They seem as if they do. I see over in Ireland people are just as impatient as they are here in the US. Great compilation ! Thanks for sharing :-))
Thanks very much. Some of these clips feature the old style crossing barrier system which used to shake a couple of times before they dropped. It makes them look like they're reacting to vehicles going under them but they used to do that anyway. They've replaced all of those older types in the last few years.
@@irelandbloke The Level Crossings Can Hangman when a Person or Car is obstructing the Crossing. I have an Example on one of my Videos called Sutton Level Crossing
I'm sure some stupid eejits have been misusing the level crossings and they just don't pay attention to the warning signals. Misusing the level crossings can cause extremely serious deaths or injuries, ye know. I never misused the level crossings and I always pay attention to the warning signals.
"Misusing the level crossings can cause extremely serious deaths" As opposed to just very serious deaths? What's the difference between a very serious death and an extreme one?
1:46 if the van stopped on the crossing, the barriers would have hit him, so he had to go to avoid damage and the safety of the train and himself. I dont really agree with including this one.
yeah... as long as there were still barriers (as the bollards won't stop pedestrians, and also the bollards would automatically lower if there was a power interruption, whereas the barriers would stay down if there was a power interruption)
Brilliant compilation! 👍👍 - Some very stupid people!
Thank you very much, I'm sure you've seen plenty of this yourself ! :)

Actually my country js Vietnam so When is red people still crossing normally before the gate start to roll to the road
Pretty good and of people misuse the level crossings in Ireland

Good video 📹. Some parts of my family are Irish
Thanks !
People: "Good thing I beat that train, eh fellow??"
Saint Peter: "I'm afraid you didn't beat it."
And here are prime examples as to what not to do ay crossing folks its also illegal and just plain stupid and dangerous to misuse railway crossings
Oh very good choice
Thanks :)
0:30 Oh my god! That was so close! Great video!
Thank you !
Brilliant competition all these bad guys running
That was when the barriers closed directly when the red lights began to flash.
1:49 for a moment I thought that was a police van or an ambulance, would have been shocking if it were
Ugh some people can be so stupid man 😒😒😒😒😒
They really can !
1:45 Not a misuse it was amber
Whats a misuse?
Is it like malfunction?
It's when someone breaks the rules at a level crossing and passes through it when the lights are flashing or even when the barriers are coming down.
Holy hell! I've also heard that one of Sandymount's gates got broken 2 times because someone rammed into it while trying to go past the crossing!
This is what network rail needs to put on the crossings when the yellow light comes on a fence should pop up until the gates go down and when they are down the fence goes back up it would stop the amount of missues and deaths

This is why level crossing in urban areas need footbridges
It would help alright

Do irish level crossing barriers hangman or something?
The crossings in Dublin used to do this, but not any more.
Weird
Why do old barriers rock just before they go down - its like they do it to scare people
@@EofETrainsandLCs Yeah just to warn people that they're about to drop

Nearly every level crossing in the USA are AHBs

Maybe because the wait is longer

why did they used to hangman like that tho
They used to do that as an extra warning they were about to drop. The new ones don't do that.
