I love watching your older videos. You and John, Creek adventure, are my two favorites. It's because you actually show us great stuff, plus you love what you're doing. I grew up in a fishing family. Mostly fishing at Wheeler dam with my grandfather Hill. Or fishing at Mallard Creek. Of course we didn't fish for giants. Papa never keep over a 3 lb fish for eating. The last all day trip we went I caught 22 cat, and he caught 21 cat. Of course they were what you would call babies😂😂❤. I sure miss my Papa ❤. I taught my two oldest grandsons how to fish and clean fish. Paxton is the one I want to set up with you. Hopefully I'll get the money soon to book a trip ❤ . And don't worry about the talking, you make it really. I love watching your wife fish ❤.
Your videos are awesome! Literally watched everyone and some multiple times, lol. Your 1 of 3 UA-cam channels I love most, with PigPatrol and 618 Fishing. Keep up the good work and look forward to all your future videos.
It makes my day reading that. Thank you for all the support! I'll do my best to keep em coming. Hopefully the fish keep biting!
This is why I love this channel it shows the real struggles and the ups and downs of chasing flatheads it is one hell of a grind.. I have caught them on bank lines and hogged many of them but until I started chasing them on rod reel i have a whole new look on them its definitely not for everyone and anyone who chases them knows it takes hella dedication. Keep up the good work man I've learned alot from you and appreciate your dedication I share the same amped up excitement when i finally land a giant! Tight lines brotha stay safe out there
I love reading that. There is no doubt diddy sticks and noodling have their own challenges, but rod and reel flatheads teach you to really appreciate every fish you catch. Thanks for watching man! Good luck out there!
pro trick: watch series at KaldroStream. Me and my gf have been using them for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@Giovanni Jerome yup, I have been using Flixzone} for since december myself :)
Love your show Spencer! It just makes me get in my comfort zone. Still reaching back to old shows. Still great!
Man I've been kayak fishing rivers for years.... keep living the life. Love your vids! Your cooking skills on the other hand, not so much. ;-)
Great Video. Soak the fish nuggets in franks redhot for 20 min prior to dreading it. Skip the egg wash and go directly to a dredge of 1 part corn meal 2 parts flour (add some salt and pepper). It gives is a slight vinegar hot-wing taste. I then use Sriracha ;) Simple and solid way to go. Happy Fishing!
I like simple and I like spicy. Definitely will have to give this one a try! Thank you sir!
Your videos keep me up at night. Thats a compliment, because I generally don't like most of the other guys. Hey,I cook tons of fish, and if you haven't tried this, well, just try this. Skip your flour, egg wash, and lightly coat with mayo, and go straight to your mixed coating. Less cleanup ,and works great. Keep it up!
If nobody has said it yet, a great fry that I love is using a couple table spoons of cornstarch in your flour and put some salt n pepper in that mix, get your egg dip ready like you like it but are you ready, use crushed up cap'n crunch cereal same way in the bag you can use like a rolling pin get it crushed up almost like powder. Bro it's amazing and try it with chicken breast too. Anyway I like it so I thought I'd share it with ya.
Sounds legit, and I bet the sugar from the cereal just adds to it. Thanks for the hot tip!
Enjoyed the entire adventure. From the river to the kitchen. Too cool. 👍
Good deal Ty! I'll keep adding the cooking part to my videos Thanks for watching!
As soon as I saw you cranky that burner to high, I starting laughing because I knew what was coming next😆. Also did you taste any of the vanilla flavor from that almond milk?
If you want to try another good batter recipe, crush up corn flakes and put some cayenne in with it. Same crunch, no burning. Awesome video as usual man!
Haha I guess I can't win em all. No, I couldnt taste it. Thanks for the recipe and thanks for watching!
Try seasoning salt on the fish (small pieces) coat with Tempura batter and roll in Panco bread crumbs.
Budweiser, yellow mustard, and eggs whisked intensely then straight into sifted all purpose flour, fry for like 2 min each side then put back in sauce then flour then fry to dark golden crispy and served with frys
I like to bake them. I found a recipe online for parmesan crusted baked halibut and followed that to make the flathead. I did tweak the recipe a bit by adding red pepper flakes to the breading to give it a little kick.
Oh my, that sounds like an amazing idea. I'm doing that next week. Thank you for passing that genius-ness along!
@@RiverCertified www.thespruceeats.com/baked-halibut-butter-parmesan-topping-3057312
Looks good. Keep catching and cooking!
If i remember correctly last time i did flathead i used my gas grill. I soaked the fillets in milk for couple hours, dried em off and used a brown sugar rub with some spices for a little heat, sprayed with olive oil spray to keep the seasoning on and makes it stick less on the grill. Ive done chicken in the past and had good results, and doing the same to flathead left me remembering happy thoughts as i had purchased the fish at a fish market after a day of fishing cuz i suuuck at catching flatheads :-(
I bet that was pretty awesome! Where can you buy flathead? I've never seen it in a grocery store?
@@RiverCertified Along the Mississippi River the various commercial fisherman will sell fresh fish usually catfish and smoked carp. The flathead i bought was 8 lbs and still kickin.
I chased flatheads for years. Never ate one but I'm hearing much better eating than channels. Not many guys go after them here PA.
I keep 1-2 small ones every year cuz they do taste pretty good. Lucky you got the river to yourself!
Another quality video SPENCER. Good looking bites on the plate.
I really enjoy your adventures. Good luck always.
Thanks Bill! The videos are fun too make. Pretty cool you get a kick out of them too!
Another good way to do that is using Rits crackers. Put them in a large zip loc. remove all the air and lay flat on a counter. Use a round glass and roll it across a few times. It will break them up into a fine dust. Similar to cornmeal. Then just fry and eat !! Taste amazing on chicken tenders as well.
Hell ya bro love the catch and cooks. Freakin looked pretty good to me. Keep grinding away bro
I'm gonna have to do more. Glad you liked it man. This stupid weather is not helping my flathead fishing. Thanks for watching!
Definitely like the cooking segments.
cast iron skillet, butter instead of oil, no breading just salt to taste and a good sprinkle of pepper.
squeeze lemon on top when it is done.
you'd be surprised how good flathead can be if you cook it like you would salmon.
"He's gut hooked so I'm gonna eat him... Oh he's not gut hooked but I'm still gonna eat him" LOL
Peanut Oil.
Long time ago my GrandDad told me peanut oil has a higher burn point temperature - once you burn the oil it's game over, as you found out.
My favorite is half Andy's Red/Cajun with a little flour to help coat (add crushed Cayenne to taste).
The flour THEN dredge was interesting. Not hating, just that Mom and Grandmaw always dredged then coated, so of course, that's how I do it as well. Maybe it's a geographical thing? Enjoyed the vid👍
I think I've heard that about the peanut oil before. Thanks for sharing. Its probably a geographical thing. Definitely adds a little more Breading tho. Thanks for the great idea!
Stay safe on the catch and cook. I lean towards the safe side within my state advisories ...
Same. They say no more than one meal of fish a week. I'm substantially under that. Thanks man!
I use instant mashed potatoe mix ( dry with no water in mix) for my breading. Pick a flavor, dip filets in egg then in the instant mix them fry.
Cheetos.....now there’s a twist! Cajun Fish breading for me. And also fry up some Hush Puppies!! And....I love Flathead belly meat. You just have to skin it twice! 😎👍👍
Cajun Breading is definitely a solid option! Hopefully get a little guy this weekend to try another recipe on. Thanks for watching!
hey man love your videos!! I've always been a bass fisherman but you've made me get into catfishing more now, and one of my favorite Oddball breading for fish is Flaming Hot Funyuns, but my go-to is definitely original Townhouse crackers. awesome videos Man keep them coming!!!
Hot Funyuns sounds legit! Hopefully you get on some cats man and leave those green fish alone😁 thanks for watching!
Good video I laughed my ass off about the I.Q. and keep experating with the cooking bro 😋✌💯👊
Yeah just got off work. And get me a great vid to watch !! Thansk buddy
Cardinals win and now a catfishing video for ya. I guess life is treating you pretty well haha. Thanks for watching them all!
I thought I had found a video that I had never seen. Nope. I remembered the hair tie. YT didn't recall I had watched it either (no red line). I hope you get a few cents for me watching it again. 😉
Post more catch and cooks. We like to see the different kinds of fish you cook
Hey bro do you have any videos on how you tie your rigs,I would like to learn how you tie them, thank you and keep posting more videos like this
Check out the tips and tricks playlist on my channel page. Its full of that info. Thanks for watching man!
Looking forward to the drum catch/cook.😀 enjoyed the video
Man they are good I'm telling ya! It's on my video list! Thanks for always watching Dewayne!
Again love these videos shows what really goes down while fishing. Also it's almost Christmas maybe there feeding on a candy cane pattern who knows lol
Glad you enjoy the videos! They seem to prefer orange and black in October hahaha
We are exactly the same when we wake up lmao... only time I had to be vibrant when I first woke was when I was in the military... now I can catch up on sleep for 10 years of none.. lol. I want to do a canp catch and cook video so bad. Need to get another kayak though..
@@RiverCertified need to get me a new kayak first... be a lot easier.
Awesome video. I for one really like the catch and cook videos.
I'll be cooking pancakes in one next week haha. I'll have to continue to do more and more of them. Hopefully this weekend!
Cant go wrong with pancakes BUT that's one thing I screw up every single time I've made em
Hahaha Yesssss!! I am not the only person that says "gets me little Giggity" 😂😂😂👍
Hey big fan you have taught me alot on catfishing i appreciate all your videos are just a cubs fan or all chicago teams
Glad ya like em! I love all chicago teams, but I only follow baseball and football for the most part.
Looks cold enough not to worry bout snapping turtle tearing him up lol. You can fish with 3 poles dam ! SD we can only use 2 .
It got a little chilly for sure. They recently allowed us to use 3 rods as long as we buy the permit for it. Thanks for watching Willie!
I like beer battered catfish sooo good.. Keep up the good work..
Couldn't agree more man! I'll definitely be doing my best! Thanks for watching!
smoke detector goes off while your cooking. lol same thing happens to me. lol
Marinate in your favorite sauce (Franks), Wash in eggs and milk, if you wanna go even further add some melted butter, roll in all purpose flour, then roll in Italian seasoned bread crumbs and blackening powder. Then throw them in the grease and hear that sizzle 🤤
Spicy pork rinds are great for breading too. PRO TIP. :P
Right on Spencer. Thanks for the adventures. My sons and I bet on when you'll post your videos.
I really love your videos. No profanity. Very chill and funny jokes.. Sometimes lol 👍 keep it up. Got a supporter out of me
I try my best to make them entertaining! I Have a lot of fun editing them. Hope you continue to enjoy them!
Yes! Like catch and cook! Hey, binge watching your channel. Man hate you didn’t boat that monster in your yak. You had great restraint not cursing about the loss. You’ll never forget it, that’s why we’re here sir. I’ll have to try the Cheeto breading. Hey, great content. Really appreciate it.
The cheeto breading is okay. I'm gonna try doritos next time. Losing big fish is part of fishing for them, but I appreciate the kind words!
Somebody recommended you to me on Catfish College on Facebook. I'm glad they did.
Like always great video, would love to have seen you fillet that flatty. I have been wanting to try flathead but never knew how to fillet them.
I keep thinking about it, but don't want to get demonetized. The simplest way is to use some pliars and pull all the skin off. Then fillet the sides and cut the belly meat from the ribs. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching Erich!
Oh for sure, I can imagine people being like that. Yes, that does help because I wasn't sure if it was similar to how you fillet a channel or not. That sounds easier to fillet after the skinning it because you have a better visual of where to cut. Thank you Spencer, for you videos and your time.
That's about my ideal size to eat em as well. I will eat em alittle smaller to though. And I agree 100%, I just gotta keep one or two from time to time. Great video as always. Try a 50/50 mix of flour and dry pancake batter with funyons instead.
I have a mild wheat allergy so I try to avoid flour if I can. Im pretty soft.
next time try the belly meat like this : cut it up just like you did after its cut up get McCormick meat tenderizer and lightly coat all the meat get Louisiana fish fry in the blue bag or box no milk egg necessary and coat the fish liberally make sure you push the fish in it good so the fish fry sticks good. deep fry until its done. very delicious and your right the belly meat is the best. thanks for the good videos if you get the chance try the gamakatsu 10 aut octopus hooks not the circle hooks just the octopus hooks I've been catching them like crazy on them great hooks. again thanks
Thanks for the recipe Chance! I've used those hooks in the past. Similar to the WST Hooks I use, its just the WST hooks seem a little sharper to me. Thanks for watching!
When you put the oven on high , I was thinking my oven would burn that lol guess ovens are the same in Iowa as texas 😂
You deserve more subs
Thanks Zavier! I definitely appreciate you being a subscriber, and a legend!
My guy looks high as a kite eating that cat tho! Lol
Omg!!!! I'm literally freaking out rn!!!! Thank you for even responding at all I love your content brother!!!! Keep up the amazing work!!
Sprinkle garlic powder on them and then a light coating of flour. Fry then in oil over medium heat.
Garlic goes good on everything! Except maybe ice cream haha. Thanks for watching Seth!
You may have already tried this but flour, eggs, coconut shavings, it makes a batter similar to Outback Steakhouse coconut shrimp 👍
ive been binge watching your channel! you have quality content and are very entertaing! (except the cubs fan part)
I understand, not everyone had seen the light of greatness in Chicago. I guess I haven't seen much greatness either lately 😁 glad you get a kick out of the videos!
Rolling pin makes a good bashing on the Cheetos
I thought that would be a good idea, once I was done🤣🤣🤣 thanks for watching!
Like the videos like the healthy part my boy drinks silk cause he can't handle dairy
This was really great! Now you make me wonder, how would Cool Ranch or Nacho Cheese Doritos taste? Looks like it would actually be really great. Never had Flats but I know I love to Smoke Channel and Blues. Next to Swordfish it's just the best. Still nothing beats Buttermilk and Cornbread Meal deep fried. I'm pretty sure my arteries were already shot because we had a constant diet of Cats from my Dad and I being out every time he got home from work. Good times. my Son just never developed my love for fishing, think it drove him crazy that Dad could sit for hours and just enjoy catching fish and not moving. Great Video. This Flatheads sacrifice was duly noted by his elders of the muddy deep and deemed good......
Love where your head is at with the doritos. Kids like what they like ive noticed and they change their minds too. That was me with Turkey hunting. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Oh by the way my mom was a teacher here in Alabama. Math teacher 😮. Of course after I got out of school I had wished I took algebra and geometry more seriously 😂😂
I don't eat fish, I just catch and release, but I'd say when cooking breaded this way to deep fry them. You would have better control of the heat distribution on all sides and less risk of burning.
@@RiverCertified you can use a medium to large saucepan. When the fish floats, it’s done. Put the cooked fish in a brown paper sack and gently turn it so the bag soaks up oil. Keep the top somewhat closed while you’re cooking more fish and it’ll stay warm. We cooked a big batch everyday.
I learned that on our fishing trips to Mexico..just used salt and corn meal.
Your dog is so cute! He seems so amused and happy living with you! Great job brotha! Keep it up bud! Your doing a fantastic job! 👊✊👍🎣
Ol Woody is the man! I love that freaking dog. I'm really glad you enjoy the videos!
my little toy poodle would play in the water & the fish would think it's a wounded bait fish resulting in more hookups.
Where I come from there is no flour in coconuts and you cant milk an almond but great vid as always love what your doin
Haha I've always done things a little different I reckon. Glad you enjoyed the video though! You're the man Gary!
@@RiverCertified I've been eating golden flaxseed and coconut flour and almond flour I actually make it myself, it sucks when your body no longer can properly utilize the basics. Back when I weigh 340 lb all I ate was carbohydrates and fats. After I quit eating them I lost over 140 lb in 8 months. And I am no longer dying from diabetes
@@RiverCertified although I will admit for fish and chicken, I just like to fry them in oil with nothing except for salt and pepper or some garlic salt, or Tony's .. depending on my mood... Frank is a staple dipping sauce
I know its river certified and all but have you ever thought about big lakes or reservoir videos? Your river stuff is super informative but there isn't any good rivers to catch cats in colorado like that. Keep up the good work my man I'll watch either way
I've fished flatheads in lakes and suck at it. It's tough man. I just filmed some channel cats on a lake last night tho. Hopefully that's what you are looking for 😁 thanks for watching!
Carry small bottle of dawn for that ivy. If u was down good the same day you'll be fine. The ivy oil will stay on everything(tents, clothes, fishing rods) for a long time. Its literally like engine oil, very hard to get completely off
That's funny you say that, cuz ever since I started doing that it hasn't been nearly as much of a problem. Thanks for watching and the good idea!
Add club crackers to your batter. It's amazing.
I use to go fishing at nigh and camping by my self .until i saw some supernatural shit in the woods . Cool videos bro 🤙 .
Good kayak owner, took it out for a walk at 6:00
I guess that's why it's river certified and not kitchen certified 😆 I wonder how it'd be with the flaming hot Cheetos.
Man I do all my flathead belly strips the same way I do my my turkey breasts. Soak em in Frank's red hot overnight and roll in Louisiana brand cajun breading from Walmart right before I drop in the oil. One of my favorite things out there.
I bet that doesn't suck. Gonna have to get some Frank's man. Thanks for the great idea!
you should season your flour with salt and pepper. your oil was to hot, that's why they turned black..350-375 for the oil. the baggie for crushing up the cheetos will work better if you use a rolling pin or meat tenderizing hammer or a food processor. btw , cheese and fish is a no no....
this way eat cat fish is make beer batter... mix beer white corn meal together.. cook on mid-high and use veg. oil... southern cat fish eatting.
Cut in chunks and boil in clarified butter. It tastes better than it feels
Great video as always..more cooking videos for sure..humor 11/10 lol “welcome ‘back’ to the kitchen” 😆 good job man
Really glad you get a kick out of my immature ability to make fun of myself 😁 thanks for watching Nick!
Have a question what depth do you fish your live bait off bottom.when using float
This is why I love reading the comments, literally free information out there just for the grab.
Would you trust the Chad Ferguson MH model on a 70 lb fish in open water, with no need to horse it out of cover really quickly? Looking forward to hearing your feedback. Seriously considering it, especially when you say it is light and feels "fun" on box fish. Thanks
Absolutely. There have been 100+ pounders caught on the MH. Good luck out there!
Gotta say man you are in my top three favorite fishing channels on UA-cam along with pigpatrol and milliken keep up the good work and stay relatable man
That's pretty esteemed company, (except they're from Nebraska and milikin is a husker fan 🤮🤣🤣). Really glad you enjoy the videos!
