I'm far from a drummer as this dude... I suck at drumming. I admit I can't play these patterns BUT if the title says 'you won't believe your eyes or ears...' WELL... then I expect to hear something that will leave me stunned just as I was promised... But now I'm like... yeah, I'm sure you are a good drummer, I can hear that but hey don't bullshit me with a title that does not say what is really going on in the video... You are doing clinics and stuff, you are endorsed, you are (I guess) a metal drummer... Can't imagine there is any endorsed metal drummer not able to play what you are playing in this vid??? or maybe there are but than that's simply because the band must be really big or the drummer really popular!! I want to hear/see more!!

I think the hate is there because of the apparent size of the gig. Granted nobody can see or hear how many people are there but it looks like a true rockstar gig. The drummer is really good and should never stop playing, yet there are some pretty insane players out there that may never experience such glamor.
I though it was pretty good. Plenty of both solid and implied 4/4 and 2/4 time signatures.
I guess the only complaint is that it was a little "generic".
But that's because it is metal. The crowd only want to hear fast and hard. Hahaha.
And maybe that the toms are tuned super low which allows for a large margin of error. But this guy was crisp and clean as he could be. Just a little "generic"
Most of the people hating on him do play drums I think, the people who don't play drums are praising him because they don't understand that although it's very good drumming, it's quite simple, and has a lot of swells and double bass which to put simply, they don't understand, and I don't expect them to

And this is why Jeff Porcaro will always be my favorite drummer.....just a humble guy who never soloed, kept perfect time, and always played to support other musicians. THAT'S WHAT DRUMMING IS ABOUT!!! The more I watch drum solos, the less I like them.

Example: There is a video Justin Bieber playing drums (basic rock beats played sloppily at a moderate tempo) in a drum off against a drummer called Questlove. Obviously Questlove is a professional and anyone with a lick of musical sense could tell there was no comparison between the two. Questlove didn't play anything over the top, but his technique blew Bieber away. But idiot pop fans saw him playing faster and declared him king and "sooooo talented". What happened to society? My faith grows weaker everyday.

I don't really judge a drum solo on the talent of the drummer, but how entertaining it is, i'm not a drummer. Tommy Lee from Motley Crue, sure, not the best of drummers... but that roller coaster stuff, rising his kit above the crowd etc, that is entertaining, nobody else does it. KISS have always had cool drum solos that are spectacular too. At least light your sticks on fire or something, but with a band like this i'm sure they don't have such a budget for that sort of thing lol.

Erik Malsam Sure, there are a lot more technical drummers out there in the world with a bunch of classical knowledge, but when it comes to the talent and ability to play an instrument this man knows what he's doing. In fact, I'd put him in the same category as Neal Pert, John Bonham, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan (may he rest in peace), etc. Just because the man isn't as well known as the people I just stated doesn't mean that he isn't a great drummer. You've got to open your eyes more to see what talents this world has to offer. I, personally, am a metal/classic rock/70's metal fan but I listen to every genre that is out there, and I get a better taste and feel for how technical/great these people are! Can I play an instrument? No, not at all, but at one point in time I was the same way as you. I only had a one track mind when it came to music (I know that you didn't state this so please don't harass me by saying that I put words into your mouth), but as I got older (I'm 21 now, and yes, I know that I'm young, but I was raised on this stuff) and started opening my eyes to more and more music I began to listen to the artists for who they are as individuals, and Alexis here is a great drummer. So, the fact that you said there are better drummers out there is a completely rude thing to say, my friend. Are there better drummers out there? Yes, but in their respective acts. Some of the things that Alexis can do some of the greats probably can't do it. And vice versa. I hope you have a great day Erik!

Not my favorite band or drummer and I'm not sure why people criticize. Do you think your favorite drummer would bash this guy? Of course not. It's called RESPECT, something many people on the web don't have. This guy is a MACHINE. He has a particular style, not super technical, but has a powerful pounding sound and his internal clock is SOLID and his drumming CLEAN. Very respectable and IMO very awesome. All the haters should post links to their drum video and let us critique you. Are you playing for large audiences? Do you have a record deal? I think not.

Dude.. not to discredit your talent nor capabilities but I stayed waiting for that moment that I couldn't believe my eyes and ears and it never happened.. Without a doubt, you're a talented drummer but I think the title picked for this video was your own demise..
There are many great drummer's that will come closer to a representation of this title and there are only a handful which are definitely better suited for such title.
One that I never get tired of listening to and watching perform is Neil Peart. No matter how many times I listen to his jams which I've already experienced hundreds of times over and over, his technical proficiency and transitions always gives me goose bumps.
This guy is Only a fourth as good as "The Rev". There will never be anyone like him again. God rest his soul.

The guys very good for sure but when you have umpteen drums, cymbals and who knows what else to hit, it makes it look very impressive, especially to non drummers. Try playing on a basic 4 piece with a couple of cymbals, that takes a lot of skill, not knocking anyone using a big kit. Of course soloing and playing for and with a band are two different things and the type of music. The big kit and the theatrics go along with the type of music that this drummer is playing.
