I did the relay and throw down this week for the first time. They loved it. I even built them before they arrived to class and were AMAZED at how I built them and excited to learn how to make one.
While students cannot guard the garbage can, are students able to swat at balls that are thrown near the can or is swatting balls away not allowed too? So excited to play this!
Yep, with 2nd-3rd we play using the long hot dog line for our midline (landscape) to make all the throws shorter and with 4th-5th we play portrait style or using the hamburger lines for our midline (as you see in the video)
How many gatherers does a team have and how do you know WHO they are? I can just see all my kids going to get balls when they want if there is no way to determine WHO the gatherer is.
Part of the game is allowing kids to decide what jobs their team needs them to do, the kids get to decide their own job and change whenever they want, discuss it between rounds... if everyone is a gatherer they will figure out real fast that they can't score any hoops and their team will lose

Glad it went well!
I remember playing this game in elementary school PE and I loved it so much. This video was awesome, thank you!
That's so cool, glad you got to play!
Thank you so much for your well explained video. I've tried this type of game and the students love it because they all have something to do.

If a ball is blocked from going into the can that would be guarding and they do a penalty
Do you play this with second grade? If so, any modifications besides moving the baskets closer?

This is a such a great game. I will try it on Monday with middle school 8th graders. Fingers crossed that it doesn’t get out of hand.
What do the kids do if there are no more hula hoops?
Become a Destroyer or a Protector
What are the modifications for playing in a smaller area?
Check out the link in the description
Would have like to see the game in motion being played by the children.
This is great experience to see.
It seems great reflection!!!
Seems to be enjoyable too!!!
What size hula hoops do you use? What is the best place to get them at the cheapest price?
For this game doesn't matter - but if you're hula hooping I'd get 36" because they're way easier to hoop with. Normally I order from S&S Worldwide
How many blockers can block a hula hut? Just 1 or many?
up to you - I don't set a limit
How many kids do you recommend on each team?
Split the class in 1/2 it works well with large groups so 60 kids 30/30 or small groups 20 kids 10/10
How many hula hoops do you use for this game?
All of them :-) , we've got 48
Going to try with my middle school 6th graders. Is there a way to win??
Yep, get the most points!
Great game! You should have the penalty box be a wall sit :)
I play it so much, I am a great destroyer and my friends and I love this even though we are grade 6
Awesome! Destroyer is definitely a fun position
What is the younger grade you do this with?
2nd
When does the game, or a round of the game end?
whenever you want, you can either put a timer up (5 minutes) or just call it when you run out of time or when you think is appropriate.
How does scoring work in this game?
Like your games, especially ice and fire tag, it brought kids lot fun in china

it would be very nice if you showed the game being played
Yep, I'd love to, but we don't have media consent for all students, so it gets a little tricky
Demonstrate activity if you can.
Dude you forgot to show the game actually played.
