“With each planned update, the games will reach the level of quality that they deserve to be.” How about just giving the PLAYERS the game THEY PAID FOR on release, huh?
Dude I almost preorder this one, I was staring at the preorder button for a solid minute until I decided no to. It's so disheartening for us to see this companies just blatantly robing us 60 bucks
Sadly that almost never happens anymore, because gamers stopped caring about holding companies to a standard this is the result of what they’ll try to get away with now.
@UC4NI7dCKRjPQItVGnqAFyyg no one asked, Rockstar probably just saw the mods and thought "hey, I bet people would pay for this" and copied it with as little effort as possible
Yeah, because so many people nowadays still preorder...and thats the issue behind the preordering, since the devs already got customers' money, they can sell a broken product
Saying that all the problems were "unexpected" is hilarious as there's no way it was actually unexpected. What was more likely was that they just actively ignored the QA team just so they could tick a box to ensure release
Well, more likely it was like here sometimes happens. QA pings me "Hey bro, this shit doesn't... even remotely work. You're aware, right?" - "Yep" - "So... You going to fix it?" - "Nope. I was told to leave it and do this piece of shit instead" - "...I see..." [creates chat with 3 people from management] "So... It's ok that this shit doesn't work?" [3 managers] "Hey, it works on happy scenario, good enough. Just close the task, deadline is almost here."
We don't need an appology. What We need is for games to be treated as regular products. Toyota doesn't intentionally release cars with defective brakes with the hope of fixing it later. And we as gamers should stop the culture of Day One purchase. That's why they keep pulling this shit on us
We have already lost headphone jacks and power bricks being included when purchasing a new cellphone.. Make no mistake the future of gaming/ technology should have some wariness when it comes to big studios/ tech corporations!
You should probably do some research before using real world examples. Toyota did in fact have a major recall for Camry's power assist break system a few days ago. Oops!
Car manufacturers do release cars with defects if the cost to fix the defect is higher than the estimated cost of paying the families lawsuits... so not the best example. But I agree with you anyways.
@@Morpheus-pt3wq If modders can do wonders with the source code they have from games that are near 20 years old, I can’t imagine what they could do with the developer tools that triple a studio rockstar has at its disposal. I know that modders can definitely do a better job than what grove street games look how they fixed the painfully blinding rain effects across the definitive edition.
Re-listing the old versions is really admitting how dirty taking them off the marketplace was. Even if the “Definitive Edition” was great, there is no valid reason to scrub the originals
It's the exact same thing Square did with the Pixel remasters of the FF games. The old versions are gone, and the new ones have features added in later versions removed. Hopefully the old versions are added back at some point, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
“With each planned update, the games will reach the level of quality that they deserve to be.” That right there sums up the current state of gaming as a whole. Release half-assed products full of bugs, throw your hands up and start counting money from pre-orders and day one purchases, and wait to see if there’s any backlash to the poor state of the game. If the backlash is big enough to where it starts seeping into other media outside of gaming, put out a statement (only when it’s too little too late, of course, because you’re hoping the backlash will just _blow over_ soon) and then say “Ah, okay. Fine. We hear you loud and clear: we’ll fix it! Tada! See? We listen!” Rinse, repeat. The games should be already the level of quality they deserved to be upon release (or at least very close). This isn’t the first time for Rockstar, although this level of a disaster is pretty big for them, but it won’t be the last. Despite the backlash, there are people that still defend this shit all because they enjoy a game and feel the need to run defense for a triple A company thinking it’ll just “get better” not wanting to realize that it won’t. This stuff just keeps happening more and more…
Defenders be like "Stop nitpicking! The game is good as it is! You are just looking for excuses to hate the game!" "Have you heard about updates? Yeah, that's a thing. Just because it was released with bugs doesn't mean it couldn't get fixed." "Stop hating! There's a first day patch fixing that bug!" These really makes me feel sad that because these kinds of defenders are the reason why gaming companies are confident in releasing unfinished games...
I've come to believe that the core of the issue lies with preorders. People are basically giving them their money before the game is even out, so they're already making a profit regardless of the quality of the game when it ships. From the executives' perspectives, I'm sure they see it as a big win that they can save time and money by rushing a product out and still make a profit. It's going to keep happening as long as people keep preordering and these massive companies keep making a profit off of rushed broken products.
And that's why I have no problem keeping my money 💰 in my bank account. I no longer have hype for anything, actually right now I buy most of my games on sale, if there is a great launch with extensive praise and good reviews however I may transfer my funds for a quality product.
Very well said. I’m just waiting for the next AAA game company to flop. Who’s it going to be next? It’s one after another. We all hope they learn from one another, but they never do. Maybe we’re just at the end of an era when the companies who built the industry start loosing their edge. We need more legal action and financial consequences for this behavior. It is unacceptable, we are tired of it, and these AAA companies should not be allowed to repeat the same old mistakes time and time again.
"Grove Street Games has grown to be a leader in the industry by taking smart risks and fostering creativity to deliver some of the world’s greatest games to millions of players." -their website. More like how bad and cheap can they make it and get away with it. 😂
EA, Ubisoft, Take 2 (Rockstar), Activision/Blizzzard. I must say i'm actually very thankful these companies (and probably more in the future) make it so much easier not to waste money on them anymore all this has a silver lining after all
The issues were "unexpected" because they thought they could just toss decades-old games into a blender, AI upscale them, do little to no actual work, and people would smile and drink it down.
And sadly, that's exactly what happened. I blame the gamers who bought this drek. The absolute moment these tools went after the modders there should have been a mass revolt...but nope. People grinned, dropped their pants and bent over happily.
"We have ongoing plans to address the technical issues and to improve each game going forward.” Translation: "The moders will fix it for us, and than we will rip-off their work while issuing Cease and Desist orders all around."
@@3Rayfire You assume they still have the talent and skills necessary to lift and transfer code correctly, or self awareness enough to not "improve" the code they are trying to lift. They'd screw it up somehow and make it 10 times worse.
Cod mw2 and cod 4 og devs leave, what happens? Numerous years of CoD going nowhere. It seems like the same is happening again. It makes sense, nothing ever last. These devs simply moved on with their life. The ones who replaced them, obviously aren’t as talented and or passionate.
i miss the good old days when publishers released games when they were actually done, because there was no way to fix all their mistakes over the coming years “moving forward” through updates.
The problem is the executives have dollar signs, so they either don't listen to what their dev team says (like CDPR), or they don't care at all (like Rockstar). Either way, greedy execs, and in some cases greedy companies push broken crap out and fix it later, if ever. It's only when they lose money that they realize how bad they fucked up.
"Standards our fans have come to expect" I've heard this line so many times by this point and it's quite laughable. Cause the standard they are speaking of, have dropped down to "something will be fked up with the game and it will make fans angry" That's the sort of standard I've come to set for pretty much every company at this point (excluding indie). If you're going to take the time to say it's "below the standard" perhaps you should just fix the problem before it's released. It's not like it was a hidden bug that showed up last minute, or something that only occurred when many people play.
Games nowadays have this "repair it later" kind of mindset, live service or AAA doesn't matter anymore. What baffles me is the bigger studios tends to do it often than smaller studios.
Smaller studios do it less often, because they can't afford it. Plus, it just doesn't get into the news, if an unknown developer f***s up their first game, no one cares.
Rockstar outsourced it to a developer with 5 employees, that almost exclusively did mobile ports up to this point, what could go wrong? Something says high standard wasn't really one of their targets with this one. The way you butchered enigma was hilarious by the way.
You'd think they'd give a budget of like 30 mil or something and put the missing music license tracks back in. They'd sell loads of copies no doubt if it were well received. But no, they cheaped out, added the bare minimum and failed.
5 employees is the number from 2011, but I can't find the number from this year, based on their websites about page it's at least 21 people though. It's true though that they mostly did mobile games, which I think is the bigger issue anyway.
Seeing how awful the remaster is actually makes me appreciate the old one a lot more. They had pretty damn good graphics and attention to detail for the time .
Rockstar games used to NEVER release statements like this in the past. They were quiet, almost mysterious, and took their time to release hits that ran flawlessly. Now they're fumbling like any other mega corporation with lack of care and quality control
Welcome to 2021, the year every other company follow Activision and EA in confidantely releasing unfinished, unpolished, and lazy games while racking in the cash from consumers who didn't completely understand how half baked these new products were going to be! Zombie customers! The future of the gaming! I see a bright future! Preorder now!
Doesn't seem like Rockstar is too worried about their 'quality standards' since the trilogy in his current state will arrive to store shelves physicaly on the 7th of December for 60 bucks.....
It doesn't matter: the damage has been done and, as far as I'm concerned, no amount of Hail Mary's will amend it. Taking the originals down and gagging the mod community is tantamount to shooting a family's dog so you can sell them a mangy coyote. Rockstar has lost my business for this blatant disrespect.
They showed their dark side and now they're trying to cover it up. I can never forgive them for what they've done. These decisions were greedy, and completely fucking evil.
100% agreed. Also I find that the way they handle games is scary as hell. They burn the original games to the ground by removing them from every platform. Then if you put in a OG Xbox copy of San Andreas into a 360-Series, it automatically is changed to the inferior 360 version and so physical doesn't even matter anymore. Extremely scary if other companies copied that.
When was the last AAA game to come out complete and with rare glitches and bugs? Update: Wow holy crap so many comments. A small glimpse in what a content creator has to go through. From majority of the comments, I see 86% of the games being console exclusives. So the question switches to why does Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have a certain level of integrity that the big Publishers do not?
To be fair, the originals had their own fair share of bugs and glitches. That said, ideally a “definitive edition” should fix those issues, not add countless more.
I love how rockstar thought they could hash out garbage and expect people would eat it up. They're really sniffing their own asses especially with how long they've been wringing out gta 5
The thing is, they're going to think the only issues are technical and glitches. And not the overall lack of effort and love that went into it, such as lazy character models and graphics.
They're in denial Some of the "Features" are awful like the rain, models, the graphics aren't all that but I don't they'll change the graphics It runs like crap even though it looks like crap, I lost a mission last night because a cop arrested me on GTA 3 because he got near my car even though he was no where near me I've seen no one talk about this either The sounds are awful The models look like garbage, the draw distance ruins San Andreas they should have added Fog and a Orange tint for the the true GTA SA feel and art style, the clarity ruined the art and feel, at least make it optional, you can have good graphics whilst having fog The main menu sounds are all GTA San Andreas No tire burns, no mist when helicopter and jets are above water, punching bags don't work etc They'll probably fix some of the bugs and call it a day as the rest were intentional
I wish someone would sit TakeTwo CEO Strauss Zelnick down and just spit facts in his face. It's like he's just surrounded himself with yes men and is oblivious to everything.
I think it’s time gaming companies start getting regulated or something. This is the common trend where they push out games rushed with tons of issues with only intent to milk consumers.
Gamers get bored easily and tend to forget, and forgive, stuff even faster. This is an issue now but it won’t be next time another publisher does the same thing of hell, even Rockstar itself with another game. Gamers will once again buy, be mad at the glitches and the publishers, a couple of days will pass, few glitches will be fixed and everything will be forgiven and forgotten.
I don't want gubmint putting their greedy fingers into games. That'll only make things worse. Customers, fans, players, reviewers, etc. all need to maintain absolute a level of self control over their wallets and purses. Let them lie in the bed they've made. Don't trust corporations, ignore "influencers & hypists" and wait until after release to purchase/not purchase.
@@CarParts08382 expecting literally everyone on the planet to cumulatively agree on what is acceptable and what isnt, then collectively boycott anything that 'isnt' acceptable, is frankly such an outlandishly absurd proposal as to be laughable. You dnot need everyone to buy something like this for it to be profitable; even one in a hundred would still be enough. The only way you'd get 100% of customers, fans, players, and reviewers to maintain an 'absolute level of self control' would be mind control or transhumanism. In other words; you're not getting that from humanity, and it's completely absurd to even suggest it as a possibility.
@@lenkagamine4145 First off, I didn't say "everyone." You did. That's why I used the words *"their"* and *"purchase/not purchase"* in my opinion about customers & games bought. Second, I wasn't demanding anyone to do anything. It was my thought that this *could* eventually retreat IF people held on to their money & thinking about their choice for more than 5 minutes before choosing to throw it at the next product to be "excited for" until the process repeats itself, lowering the quality bar every time. Way to go in misconstruing my statement.
The only thing they didn’t expect was the degree of community backlash. They knew they shipped a bad product. They thought the community would tolerate and purchase it. They have a low opinion of their customers.
People who jump on that hate train gotta realize they eff up double - first by being total assholes to the devs, and then again by enabling the publisher to play the victim card.
@Over It I see what they're doing and it kinda sucks, but I can't blame them for taking advantage of the situation, when the mistargeted hate (which sucks even more) allowed them to do so in the first place.
Goes to show why the internet don't accept apologies of ANY kind, no matter what good or bad deeds you've committed. Take it from me and other UA-camrs, like Logan Paul and Onision, that tried to apologise!

Sounds familiar to a company that uses uses two vowels as its initials does the same to a football game named after a former NFL coach and commentator.
True. They planned shit. These guys don't don't plan shit. Old days when PS2 was pushed to its limits while running GTA SA. During those times devs came up with creative methods to get games run perfectly on low end hardware. These days only the 1st party game devs like playground games do these
Yeah honestly, i played the hell out of peace walker on the psp and they put so much content and detail into that entire game, even online mode and bonus content, all in a psp.
Honestly I think a big reason they responded is because their stock price dipped pretty hard. Something tells me they did this to somehow comfort investors that they will fix their mess.
They will be fine. Check how bad it was for EA after the SW BF2 fiasco. When the stocks went below 100$ I was wondering will they recover or was it some type of snowball effect. But here is the thing since some big investors also earn on short it might be that someone wanted the stock price to go down to later start earning with the rebound. And what happened? Nothing EA is fine stocks went up again they released a couple of games for which their reports stated: performed above expectations. Take2 has a milk cow called gta online. They will be just fine. But yes the statement is pure damage control nothing else.
They said there would be an update "in the coming days". That makes me think they actually were fully aware of all these issues but decided to release on time and continue working on it.. they would absolutely not be ready to release any Meaningful update after such a short time..
It's impossible for them not to have known the issues. For any studio releasing a game, especially in such state. You'd have to be blind and not talk to anyone in the company to not know there are issues before release.
Thing is devs always know, and always beg for time/resources/more people to not release in such state. But if you've got investors, ceos who just want to earn easy money etc they will not listen.
I miss the days when games where about quality and performance. Yeah today we have amazing hardware but what does it all mean if no one can make good software to use it?
which is why I never took an interest on rtx 5-7517671867108671876018 cards and other "visual improvements" even though to me the graphics are fine without one, I focus more on good writing, not how good a rehashed game looks; it's still the same old content that's been vomited up by the company that just wants a quick buck.
Same here, not a lot of passion left in the games industry (aside from "Indie" projects). This recent trend of "remastering" everything is unfortunate as well.
@@JL-rj9fl Same, I support indie titles when ever I can, but not a tear is shead when someone pirates a AAA game. AAA's fall comes all down to creative stagnation and greed.
@@christopherrowe7860 yeah, indie titles can do some groundbreaking things with the resources they have to work with. Like I've seen some triple-a games that can't handle more than 16 npcs, but then I see a game made by a smaller company that is able to handle thousands, just fighting in the same cell fully rendered in on the first person view. Other more indie-focused games that have an excellent story and attention to detail put into it, it's a fascinating thing really.

Technical issues are never "unexpected". There are only two kinds of issue in videogames - issues the programmers can't fix before the deadline, and issues they have been told not to fix because of deadlines.
Every word of this "apology" is a lie, they knew it's garbage all along, they didn't care one bit about quality of games they are putting out there, they only return old games and patch the "remasters" because their stock price took a dip, and this _"wahh don't harass us on media"_ is just an attempt to appear as a victim in this scenario. All the events of the past year point to that: banning and suing modders, lack of information or gameplay footage, pulling originals from stores, outsourcing to the same studio that made dogshite mobile ports - this is proof that *ROCKSTAR AND TAKE-TWO DON'T CARE AND THEY ARE LYING T0 OUR FACES*
Bp" we're sorry. Really really sorry"- greedy companies feeding the ignorant low education masses while making billions and being supported by the gov't they have corrupted. @@retardedchromosome3923 What they delivered is a hot pile of steaming shit, we can all agree on that. Its still NOT an excuse for harassment and death threats, and never will be.
Rockstar and Take-Two are just destroying themselves. And their "apology" shows how they're willing to throw even their most loyal consumers under the bus, just for that sweet cash.
The "wahh don't harass us on social media!" bit is laughable. What, maybe a handful of total loser trolls did that and they're going to make it like it's a big issue, like they're being threatened like mad? BS. If people do that, they're scum but what these people call "harassmen" and "threats" are usually just someone with a mildly spicy hot take after having been ignored. They use it as a shield. Every. Single. Time.
Not to long ago, Creative Assembly outsourced a remaster of one of their classic titles to a smaller company that mostly did mobile ports, and even though there were *some* issues, it was done well, received well, and holds up to the older title. As a matter of fact, I saw more people complain about how the graphics were totally redone, and some wanted the old stickman graphics from 2006 (kind of a stupid thing to complain about but I digress). This is totally on Rockstar and the company they had do this. So many things could have been done to circumvent this, even in the form of a delay, but now we have this, and an apology.
Is it apology? It sound more like "yeah, we sold it to you broken. What'ya gonna do, big boy? You gonna wait till we maybe repair it and you gonna like it and be grateful, that's what you gonna do."
How quickly ya'll forget. 2K did the exact same thing when they released the horrible Bioshock remasters. they pulled the originals and put out terrible "remasters." The remasters got tons of backlash for being inferior, and 2k released the originals back into the store. They do this every time.
Hold up. What? I only ask because I played the original Bioshock on 360, skipped 2, and played Infinite when it came out on PC. I only bought the remasters maybe 2-3 years ago, so maybe I missed the shitshow that was the initial (re)release. Seemed fine to me, but I’m curious…was it that bad? What sorts of issues did you guys encounter that made it so terrible?
"Planned updates to make the game reach their quality." How about reaching the previous set quality from when you released the original game first before aiming higher
I feel like we're all discovering a financial and economic paradox over the past few years. Unlike banks and related institutions being classed "too big to fail" and necessitating bailouts, AAA game studios are becoming "too big to succeed" and lose their ability to make compelling games due to their size and resulting profit potential. The executives, board of directors, and shareholders all demand that these companies keep growing their size and their profits, the company loses its passion and reason for getting into the industry in the first place. They cheap out on QA and development and outsource most of the work, and then they're surprised that their low efforts and cost-saving measures produce stinking turds instead of worthwhile games. There is enough saturation in this market that we don't have to waste our time with every bowel movement AAA companies produce, and instead can play higher quality and cheaper games made by people who care. AAA gaming is heading right off a cliff if governments crack down on their increasingly psychologically exploitative monitization practices, and they'll deserve what's coming.
Great pattern you found. Honestly their horde of bean-counters and middle-managers must be lacking something upstairs. A single look at any of these NPC's, or a 5min playthrough, should send the game back to the drawing board. I just don't understand how they choose to shoot themselves in the foot every time. Insane.
"Unexpected technical issues" There is no way a game releases in such a trash state like this and it can be unexpected. You have to willingly release a broken product for it to be this bad.
Or they were stupid enough to not playtest it. I think the idea that Rockstar released a broken game on pupose is ridiculous, why would they go out and tarnish their own reputation on purpose? I don't think they sat in a meeting room and went "You know Blizzard, CD Project Red and Bethesda really fucked up recently and we want to join the club of tanking stocks, so how do we do that?" They definitely did not care nearly enough about ensuring quality though.
@@creativedesignation7880 the question still remains we have 3 parties here the company that did the porting, rockstar, take2. And why not any of them did a quality control either with employees they have at hand or outsourcing it to like 3 people each playing one game. Or even one person spending 3 days total in all of the games??? Especially that finding issues can be done in regular gameplay you do not have to search for them or try to brake the game. Also there needs to be a contract between the studio doing the job and take2/rockstar so the conditions should be met if not someone will not get their money. Sadly it feel like a cash grab from the start, the fact they release the trailer very late, removed the original games, went after the modding community, did not release any game play speaks volumes. I also have hard time to believe that take2/rockstar where unaware that games will be ported from the code which was an already mobile port that needed a lot of compromises to run on mobile. So in my opinion (I might be wrong) they new what they are doing. I only hope that some gamers were burned by this and that it will be a lesson for the future for them (sadly I know it might not be the case).

11:12 Harrasssement is the "go-to" card to deflect criticism. In fact, they look at criticism as harassment. If it were real, they would be filing police reports. If there are any threats out there, it's probably the one guy in Afghanistan. The internet is world wide and not just in your local town or country.
You must be new to the internet to think Dev's getting death threats not real.....yes the threats are real and not so easy to really do actions...most a waste of time. A few do go to FBI(if company in USA) and then takes time to actually move against depending on the type of threat or country your in.
They hide behind 'harassment' like it's a shield... and that shield is starting to wear pretty thin. Just like "It's just jokes". Filed reports and proof, or stfu
Unbelievable. So what they want people to be happy with what we got ? People have ever right to be angry cause these games are abysmal and borderline unplayable. It is sad how games here just barely chug along like I'm playing on an ancient computer cause these are 17-20 year old games. They should run flawlessly on every platform, including Switch. Switch recently got a flawless port of Dying Light for crying out loud. I refunded this trash days ago and I went back to the classics. I was going to wait for a patch until I read the snarky comment by the CEO on Twitter and then read that they are crying about "harassment" now. They are playing the victim card rather than manning up and saying "we fucked up" and taking some accountability. Refund this shit.
Remember when Rockstar released a new GTA game every few years and it was always amazing. Now they seem to only care about GTA Online because it brings in money every other day.
I remember the good old days when I had 7 billion dollars in the game from DNS money and literally bought everything that online offered because back then the Bugatti was the most expensive thing in the game. Miss those times.
They see their customers as statistics in the earnings and why should they love their customers earning money is what they all want and love the only exception are indie devs because they’re just some lad/lass making games as a passion project and not expecting success
It's not hate, more like... Apathy. In my opinion Engagement is/is becoming king. It's not about wether people like your game/product or not just if they buy and/or engage with it. I feel like it's just a consequence of the mainstreaming of any industry really
well imo, we're in the dark ages of gaming; microtransactions being poured into games, player just becoming pawns for the monetary gain, remasters which I never took an interest in because it's just the same regurgitated content I've seen 10 years ago. Of course the smaller companies keep pushing out pure gold for games, but the AAA side of gaming is going downhill.
@@supergenius6256 this is no ‘dark age’. This is the way it’s gonna be forever in the industry now. No. They can afford to release a game like GTA 6 and rest assured that players will gobble it up by the millions. The live service models for games is breaking records year on year. @@schlobster3929 I meant that because it just feels like one, nothing new being put out in the triple-a scene other than remasters and the same old content, the heavy monetization of video games (hell, ever since 2015 that's been the main focal point on the news I see). Not that the entirety of the gaming industry is in this god-forbidden timeloop, smaller companies do have the creative insight to make some fresh games, some have even made it up there in the standard of gaming, pushing the engine to unexpected possibilities, and in some cases holding up in graphics. The gaming industry is a fascinating thing, though from 2015-2021 it's mostly just been "eh" for me in triple-a products.
Reminds me of school projects where you just keep putting them off for weeks and suddenly the deadline comes up and you scramble to push a barely passable thing just to not fail.
Honestly, this all just amounts to the typical PR statement when a company has to go into damage control. There is no way they didn't know about the state the game was in. They just thought screw it, and pushed it out hoping fans would eat it up. Only it blew up in their face. You know you screwed up massively when EA manages to release a better remaster with the Mass Effect remasters.
There was no excuse and only one reason for this whole mess - money 1. They wanted to maximise profits so tried to cash in on nostalgia while using a small developer to do it forcing them to automate as much as possible. 2. They knew it was poor hence why they placed so many restrictions on reviews. Contrast this with 343 Industries that, despite making mistakes, have been open with previews and not trying to hide the truth from people. 3. The modding community were not robbing money from Take Two/Rockstar. They were keeping these games relevant and also implicitly supporting the idea that Rockstar care and value their fans. With copyright strikes and takedowns it just makes you appreciate that they are no different than others. 4. People will be far more cautious about buying Rockstar games in the future.
With Dan Houser being gone, it really worries me for the future releases coming from this company. Let's hope these releases have more to do with Take-Two rather than R*.
Even with the PC version, there's no confirmation they will be coming back to any other storefront. They're definitely not back on Steam currently so even with them bringing these games back, you're forced onto the Rockstar launcher. Wouldn't be so bad if it actually worked and they didn't show they can just pull games from you from right under your nose. What a disgrace.
@@thefool8224 Wait... The original versions on Steam that I've owned for years (but haven't played for about 3 years) now force the shitty launcher? Fuck Rockstar then. I'll just pirate in future. Doesn't come with that sort of crap.

Nah friends. It IS bad because what they're doing is double dipping due to the massive refunds. Think about it. If they only sell the originals on the Rockstar Launcher in a new bundle and not anywhere else that ultimately means you are paying them for games you already bought again. If it was released for steam for example and you had previously bought it on steam then you wouldn't need to buy it. So no money. Same with console. Just more shady shit. The apology is basically a lie when you factor this in. Lets give them hope but in reality make us more money. Imagine using a service like VUDU for example for when you buy the movies they are yours forever but then one day VUDU decides to update their website and say "Sadly due to the new update all those movies you bought are now gone but you can rebuy them for a discounted price." They're basically stealing from the customer. And thats EXACTLTY what Rockstar did by taking these previous versions down and expect you to rebuy the new bundle only on their launcher.
I have learned after getting cheated so many times any game that does not have a beta where people can comment before the sale of the game do *NOT* invest or pay money it's probably broken or a scam 🤬
@@tharengore7215 "Press X to Jason/Doubt" After this new anniversary garbage Bethesda recently shat out to screw over the people that enjoy mods. I don't expect this space explorer, open world game to be a clean 'launch'. Then they'll manage to screw something up with Elder Scrolls Six that'll have "sixteen times" the detail and size of Skyrim or Morrowind.
There are so many small details in the OG San andreas that used to blow my mind, and I remember when I noticed how real the gym looked, when CJ is lifting, he struggles and lifts in a real motion where the arms are going slowly one after the other and theres trembling and all... so sad to see they butcher everything
I just saw vids about some details, like cj aminations change based on body type (never noticed), stores having shutters at night and goes away in the mourn, gang members trashin ur car with u in it (seems to only happen on certain conditions taxi missions is one). its nuts how much detail they added in a 2-3 yr develop time.
If there was literally any play testing done then they would have found these issues. I don't believe for a second that they didn't know exactly what crap they were putting forward. This is especially true since they barely showed any gameplay in the trailers. Also I still believe that every person who suggested and approved the idea of basing any of these on a freaking broken mobile port should lose their jobs.
Not gonna lie I definitely want government agencies to start regulating this shit. More and more triple A games are putting out sub standard games which are clearly unfinished and are being worked on after release while the consumers pay full price for a unfinished game. It’s getting ridiculous man.
Lol all the anti-gov replies don’t take away the fact that when it works regulations is what helps them get refunds and standards in the first place. The problem is that the current politicians are too old to understand what’s going on, but it’s only a matter of time if more stunts like these keep on getting pulled
@@LP-ct9nk Videogames are only brought up in politics as a scapegoat. Politicians would rather blame videogames for an increase in certain crimes rather than take personal accountability.
They can add back the OG trilogy, they can fix the Definitive Mess they've made all they want, but it still does not address my original grievances against this remaster - the fact that they *AGGRESSIVELY WENT AFTER MODDERS AND TOOK DOWN THEIR HARD WORK. FOR THIS.* I cannot in good faith support this Remaster in any way until they loosen up on modders and allow them to bring their projects back up. Right now authors of re3 and reVC are once again going up against the lawsuit, and that's the cause I'm willing to support. Until this issue is addressed once and for all, this thing, and any and all future Rockstar games, are off-limits for me.
Rockstar like all the others have the money to be in a “f*ck you position.” They can do whatever the hell they want because they’re too big to fail. Personally I’d rather maintain a legacy of success rather than squander my rep for a quick buck.
Executives in gaming companies think gamers are stupid and will just accept any product that just happens roll out. This is becoming such a huge industry problem. MAKE a good product - GET your consumer's respect. These very same executives need to stop milking the games companies they work for. They do the least amount of work. But that situation is all ass backwards too
"unexpected" lol. Btw, it's always frustrating when these "definitive" editions are set in place of the old, fully functional versions. If someone just wants to get the classic experience, it really sucks having to sail the high seas to get them.
The games industry is just overall terrible when it comes to games preservation. Just dangle the new shiny rerelease with missing/changed content and people will be content and not care for the original version (that sometimes is more definitive than the so called definitive version).
I don't currently have a PC, (it broke) but I'll get one in a few years. I've been playing the classic GTA SA since I was 12 and now I'm 15 able to mod every single aspect of any classic Gta games and learning how to type fast through cheats in these games. I am out of words I can use to Describe GTASA, but I Dream of one day working on a remaster or remake that will actually do justice and so I shall try with every cell of my body.
Such a fall from grace. Imagine players who had so much fun playing San Andreas for the first time, seeing the remaster now. Like, how did 2004 GTA turn into 2021 GTA?
I missed gta sa back in the day (played VC), started SA with game pass, and oh boy. The only thing I can say to be polite is this game needed a remake. Something like mafia 1 style. Remastering titles that old makes little sense to me.
@@mravg79 I still play the original VC and SA releases available on PS4 and enjoy them. It's nostalgic of course, but still very playable in their awkward, clunky controls and mechanics. I guess I just enjoyed them back then and can still accept them with jank and all. An issue with these new releases is that they have an identity crisis between being a "remaster" and a "remake"
Hell even the previous version that was on steam runs like ass. I have the original Xbox version and it plays better than the steam edition. I can't imagine how bad the "definitive" version plays
What I find ironic, is they basically did the trilogy as a cash grab. But if they had taken their time, and brought these games up to current technological standards, they would have brought in a whole new generation of players to enjoy it. How much money did they just lose out on by making everyone hate them?
At least they relisted the original versions so mods can continue, though lets be honest, they're only doing that because the backlash was SO EXTREME, and I doubt they had mods in mind since they're taking down GTA IV mods now. I'm just so done with these "Remakes" in general, the fall of another once great developer, that's already happened to Blizzard like 3 times now, not really anything new these days. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go play GTA San Andreas online, yes modders have made it, and yes its better than GTA V Online, no Micro Transactions, just fun.
We've gotten to the age where you should wait a year or two before playing the game. New or remastered, it doesn't matter. It will be patched to fuck and ready after launch. What a time to be alive
I caught Forza Horizon 4 almost halfway through it's figurative life cycle on sale. I plan to do the same next year, for Horizon 5 if I can catch it around the same price or so.
@@makotokeisatoruko8203 I been buying games 6-12 months after release for years now, with rare exceptions (final fantasy 7r and mass effect remaster recently). It saves me money and headache.
Yep, my standing rule is 3 years for AAA games releases. *Usually* they have hammered out the worst of the bugs by then and turned it into something playable, and turned it into a GOTY edition with all the DLCs at half the price. I'd rather risk new purchases on indy games, or fire up something stable from 10-15 yeas ago for another playthrough. I just don't give them my money up front anymore. Ever. Trust is gone.
Life tip: if you're looking for forgiveness, don't start by making obvious lies in your apology. It was totally expected. Take-Two's CEOs would have to be supremely incompetent not to know.
I've always seen Rockstar as one of the more detail oriented developers, especially regarding gameplay. This'll be a distracting needle scratch on their record forever. And it better be, because it was really unnecessary. Being so callous with these games? *These games?!* Just, no. Taking away the tinted fog from San Andreas isn't just a technical misstep. The artwork for the game features the yellow fog for distant scenery. It also makes it look like the music videos and movies of that era, it's how LA looked like in bad boys, and die hard to name a few. It's part of the game's visual identity. They should have implemented a smoother, more interesting fog, not taken it away entirely. They could have extended the draw distance depending on your location on the map, and whether you where on land or on an aircraft, so you wouldn't see the mario like overworld divides. They could have done a lot of things differently.
Agreed with thr other reply. Rockstar handed this over to the people who did the mobile ports, and it's just been rushed out the door as most things are nowadays
The fact that another development team put this together doesn't exculpate Rockstar at large. They went ahead and published it, and we can assume they didn't sufficiently fund or oversee the project. They're at fault alright.
"We want to provide an update regarding the unexpected technical issues that came to light as part of the launch of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition." The opening scenes for GTA 3 starts with a cinematic with rain. The first thing people noticed that was wrong with this Definitive Edition was the rain looking like milk falling from the skies. How exactly was that unexpected?
I was moderately happy when I heard they were gonna release these for the switch, was thinking about getting it for my nephew for Christmas but screw it, I'll just dust off my PS2 and let him play the real ones on that.
There was a bug introduced in the mobile port where skinny CJ can lift any sized weight that you want at the gym, rather than work from the smallest sized weight to heaviest. Can't test this myself since I don't have the game but it the definitive editition is based off the mobile port so....
It really makes you appreciate the work that went into making the most of what the PS2 could do edit: and other consoles of the time. But i love the ps2
Imagine releasing a remaster so awful that you have to give buyers the classic versions to try to make amends.

Saying that all the problems were "unexpected" is hilarious as there's no way it was actually unexpected. What was more likely was that they just actively ignored the QA team just so they could tick a box to ensure release
Thank you for not blaming QA themselves.
Well, more likely it was like here sometimes happens. QA pings me "Hey bro, this shit doesn't... even remotely work. You're aware, right?" - "Yep" - "So... You going to fix it?" - "Nope. I was told to leave it and do this piece of shit instead" - "...I see..."

Honestly they may have just not QA. As in no QA team.
We don't need an appology. What We need is for games to be treated as regular products. Toyota doesn't intentionally release cars with defective brakes with the hope of fixing it later. And we as gamers should stop the culture of Day One purchase. That's why they keep pulling this shit on us

Car manufacturers do release cars with defects if the cost to fix the defect is higher than the estimated cost of paying the families lawsuits... so not the best example. But I agree with you anyways.

Cool for PC players they did that anyway. I have the originals all on disc for Xbox so not especially worried in that regard.
“With each planned update, the games will reach the level of quality that they deserve to be.”
That right there sums up the current state of gaming as a whole. Release half-assed products full of bugs, throw your hands up and start counting money from
pre-orders and day one purchases, and wait to see if there’s any backlash to the poor state of the game. Tada! See? We listen!”
Rinse, repeat.
This stuff just keeps happening more and more…
Defenders be like
"Stop nitpicking! The game is good as it is! You are just looking for excuses to hate the game!"
"Have you heard about updates? Yeah, that's a thing. Just because it was released with bugs doesn't mean it couldn't get fixed."
"Stop hating! There's a first day patch fixing that bug!"
These really makes me feel sad that because these kinds of defenders are the reason why gaming companies are confident in releasing unfinished games...
New old game is "remastered" by now big corp no longer indie fresh off the block company.
Aw sh$t here we go again.

It will be that way as long as there are preorders or there isn't any law that will stop the companies to publish half finished games
Smaller studios do it less often, because they can't afford it. Plus, it just doesn't get into the news, if an unknown developer f***s up their first game, no one cares.

You'd think they'd give a budget of like 30 mil or something and put the missing music license tracks back in. They'd sell loads of copies no doubt if it were well received. But no, they cheaped out, added the bare minimum and failed.

God of War maybe?
Or with promised features no less

The only way you'd get 100% of customers, fans, players, and reviewers to maintain an 'absolute level of self control' would be mind control or transhumanism. Way to go in misconstruing my statement.
The only thing they didn’t expect was the degree of community backlash. They knew they shipped a bad product. They thought the community would tolerate and purchase it. They have a low opinion of their customers.

Or even one person spending 3 days total in all of the games???
Especially that finding issues can be done in regular gameplay you do not have to search for them or try to brake the game.
Also there needs to be a contract between the studio doing the job and take2/rockstar so the conditions should be met if not someone will not get their money.

Never preorder, never buy day 1, and never purchase microtransactions.
PS: Gotta love how the one on Game Pass is absolute dogshit.
Exactly this, 1 million percent!
as long as ppl support devs like this, they will continue.
Let’s re-list the classic trilogy on every other digital storefront while we’re at it? What a disgrace this has been
Such a fall from grace.
"how did 2004 GTA turn into 2021 GTA?" : Greed
What mods? They C&D'd them all.
SAMP is cool, but calling it better than V is a bit much.
The classic version they relisted couldn't be modded at all for some reasons
Which digital store are they relist the classic?
We've gotten to the age where you should wait a year or two before playing the game. New or remastered, it doesn't matter. It will be patched to fuck and ready after launch. What a time to be alive
I caught Forza Horizon 4 almost halfway through it's figurative life cycle on sale. I plan to do the same next year, for Horizon 5 if I can catch it around the same price or so.

I been buying games 6-12 months after release for years now, with rare exceptions (final fantasy 7r and mass effect remaster recently).
Or play indie games , they care about you , spoke with many indie devs
Exactly. Never buy on day one.
What bothers me the most is that Rockstar haven't made the remasters but people will forever associate this mess with Rockstar.
Yeh they ruined the vibe of san Andrea's. And the other 2 games. They poorly misunderstood the artistic aspects.
"We want to provide an update regarding the unexpected technical issues that came to light as part of the launch of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition."
The opening scenes for GTA 3 starts with a cinematic with rain. The first thing people noticed that was wrong with this Definitive Edition was the rain looking like milk falling from the skies. How exactly was that unexpected?
now we just need the mods back......
I was moderately happy when I heard they were gonna release these for the switch, was thinking about getting it for my nephew for Christmas but screw it, I'll just dust off my PS2 and let him play the real ones on that.
Same
"Unbelievably high standards?" You made it look worse then the original games. People expected it to look better then the originals, not worse.
There was a bug introduced in the mobile port where skinny CJ can lift any sized weight that you want at the gym, rather than work from the smallest sized weight to heaviest. Can't test this myself since I don't have the game but it the definitive editition is based off the mobile port so....
" _Unexpected technical issues_ "
Oh that's cute.
This situation is a bruh moment to say at least
The bruhest moment to have ever bruhed
i think cdpr and rockstar have both shown that no one should trust AAA game companies and preorder their games anymore.
It really makes you appreciate the work that went into making the most of what the PS2 could do
edit: and other consoles of the time. But i love the ps2
