I myself would wrap insulation tape around the part of the metal tweezers that I'm holding, or tape the tweezers onto the pins before plugging it into a power socket.
To everyone saying this is dangerous, it's only dangerous if you do it wrong. However, all this tells you is if the PSU will turn on, it does not tell you if it's good. There can be all kinds of issues when the PSU is under load that this cannot test. A proper PSU tester is like $12, just get one..
thats EXACTLY why its dangerous to say it! lol Of course those aware of the dynamics and working operation (voltages, current, iso tfx's, capacitors, AC vs DC, &c.) of a/the device would know what this is doing, and how to do it correctly. An accidental mistake is one thing, it happens. BUT people making a mistake THINKING its the correct way, because they are not skilled/knowledgeable enough to know the point of shorting the terminals or the implications, all because they watched/read a short example of ONE way to try to remedy a situation, are walking into things not even THINKING that theres a potential for danger/injury/destroying things. Granted, you shouldnt really be trying to fix a power supply if youre not at least SOMEWHAT comfortable working on electronics or High Voltages/Currents; or have someone supervising or helping you at the time. you're just checking the "POWER OK" feature, meaning that the psu starts because it has the signal to do so... but you're not having any info about the "goodness" of +12v, +5V or +3,3V.
If your power supply is a ATX form factor, then it should have an addition 4 pin connector that can attach to the edge of the 20 pins connector. To be specific, the wire color will be 2 red and 2 black. If you existing power supply is the outdated AT type, then get the ATX power supply for your ATX mother board.
