As an engineer, I can tell you depending on the product the issue is that you have to buy so much equipment that the price has to be lower, lower price means lower quality. Your boots can't be 500 bucks each, they have to be 80 bucks. A truck can't be 2 million, it will be a few thousands if possible. Now the big ticket items like tanks and jets yeah those will last decades, they also cost millions.

HMMV was never meant to see combat. It's a cheap small rear-line transport. When you conquer the country in a week and spend 20 years on cleanup there is no rear and that's why there are up armored HMMVs now. Also replaced by MRAPs
