Welcome to VoicePlay - what fun! Yes, this quality is exactly what you should always expect from them. This one was arranged by Layne Stein, the beatbox. The bass, Geoff Castellucci, also has a personal channel - that will give you the chance to really hear his range - both in terms of his vocal range, and his skill with different types of music.
No effect for Geoff's super low notes, he really does sing that low. The super low notes are done with the subharmonic technique, which he is very skilled at, but he also is abke to go down to F1 in pure chest voice
Thanks for the comment, I better not doubt this guy ever again. To my defense, I meant it more in terms of the sound of it rather than his ability to sing that low, but thank you for enlightening me! 🙏❤️
@@johndeeregreen4592 Of course VP does some post production for the music videos. They want the best sound for them. But it's always voice or body used as the basic sound. They also add more layers of vocals where it fits their vision of the song. "A capella" doesn't equal to "live recording" with no effects or post production. :)
They do use effects, and talk about it in interviews. However, Geoff doesn't _need_ any particular effects to hit low notes. They use them (in Layne's words) "because we can". There are numerous concert/live-performance recordings of them on UA-cam, which will give you a good idea what they sound like without any post-production effects. Elvira is a good example that shows off Geoff's upper range, and they don't have a studio version of the song.
Great reaction and welcome to the #Voiceplay family! You've done an extremely great job taking in so much with intelligent comments! Most reactors are overwhelmed on their first Voiceplay reaction. Voiceplay does their own arrangements, their own productions, their own video and lighting. They have a huge catalog that spans numerous music genres. You'll enjoy Voiceplay's versions of Nothing Else Matters, Valhalla Calling, Creep, Seven Nation Army, Hoist The Colours (for your West End feeling), Warriors, Dream On, Dragonborn Comes, Hall of the Mountain King, and their new release from Lion King The Lion Sleeps Tonight. Enjoy the ride!
Love first time reactors to Voiceplay! They are just the best. They can scare the heck out of you, make you laugh uncontrollably, break your heart, or just give you a toe tapping good time. Creep or I Can't Make You Love Me - breaks your heart Drunken Sailor or The Lion Sleeps Tonight - fall down laughing Hoist the Colours or Valhalla Calling - stunning They are completely independent, no label, no manager. The arrangements are done by Geoff, the bass, Layne, the beatboxer, and Eli, the rock tenor. Whoever arranges that month is responsible for the full production, editing, costume, set, and makeup decisions and first edit of the track. Each member has a studio in his home and the music is prerecorded, then the video done. They have had member changes in the last four years, one man short and work with a variety of friends as featured artist. Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay!
Definitely coming! I'm amazed how dedicated fan base you are! I believe this is the future of the music industry - no middle man, just artist and the fans!
VoicePlay is often referred to as the theater kids of acapella. They own their own production company and do all their own work. This gives them a lot of leeway to do what they want to do.
VoicePlay will always provide lots of fascinating details for a musician/arranger/vocal coach to pick apart. I watch every single critical analysis of VoicePlay's music that I can find and there is a lot less repetition in those analyses than you'd imagine, simply because VoicePlay's arrangements are so complex and unexpected. Either Geoff (the bass) or Layne (vocal percussion)- who tend to take turns creating the group's arrangements- could teach a masterclass in vocal arrangement. There is so much creativity and invention in the music this group creates, and being as they are 100% independent artists (funded only by performances, Patreon and merch) they can take whatever risks they want or perform any style of music they like. And they can be found all over the musical map- you started with a aong from a Disney soundtrack (the Hunchback of Notre Dame) but they have also covered Michael Jackson, the Beatles, Metallica, Aerosmith, Kansas, BTS, Panic! at the Disco, Phantom of the Opera, Charlie Puth, AJR, and Edvard Grieg, just to name a very few. I very much hope you will continue to react to their music; these guys are all phenomenal talents and deserving of as much expose as they can receive. Also, you will just have so much fun! (Seriously- besides their music being absolutely phenomenal and the guys themselves as humble and wholesome as you could wish, VoicePlay's fanbase are a remarkably wonderful and kind group of people who will share your exploration of the group with delight.)
Thank you! I kinda wanna watch it all right now, but I'll save all of it for you so I can deliver the most authentic reactions and analysis I can. Everyone has been so friendly here, I'm stoked beyond words! You're awesome! 🤯🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️
Another first timer. Love it! They have plenty of funky and soulful tunes in their bag. Voiceplay covers about every genre you can imagine. They’ve even vocalized pure instrumental pieces.
The video they advertise at the end, 'Drunken Sailor," is a lot of fun! It doesn't have J. None, but their guest is Jose Rosario Jr, who plays a perfect pirate captain! He also does in "Hoist The Colors," which is truly one of their best.
@@FaanaMusic I can't wait for you to do more either! Jose Rosario Jr is also in their version of "Hoist The Colors," a song I listened to over 45,500 times last year, Jan-Nov. (I actually listen to it while I sleep. It was my favorite before "Valhalla Calling" came out. That one I listen to for hours on end every other night, on repeat.
The 'Don't Shut Your Eyes' recommendation really applies to many of their other videos. This was visually simpler than most of their stuff. Also, letting the end play out is because they often add something after the song ends. But sometimes it is as simple as this one where you get a sample of the karaoke track they made for the song. Those are great because it can really let you hear some of the background harmonies they make, that get overpowered by the foreground harmonies. Each singer is often singing multiple tracks in their arrangements. The arranger on this one was the Beatboxer Layne Stein (far left on screen), but the Bass Geoff Castalucci has done about half of the arrangements. They switch off who does it and whomever arranges the song is also responsible for the directing, primary audio editing and video editing. Final audio is sent out to Ed Boyer, who does many acapella groups audio. Eli (rhymes with jelly) is the tenor to the right of Geoff. The one with that glorious 'Esmeralda'! does all the lighting - often much more complex than this one. And has begun arranging as well (see the cover of RadioHead's "Creep") Since you apparently like funky, I'm going to suggest their covers of "Superstition" and "Friends on the Other Side" as the obvious place to start. But do not skip their more rock oriented songs. They can be amazing. Eli in particular has a fantastic voice for rock, but they all sound practically unreal! I'll leave space for someone else to tell you about the other two guys here. Subscribed and off to see what other videos you have!
Geoff, the guy singing the low notes (the bassline under his lead is him multi-tracked, too), has a crazy range of A0-A#5. Just his chest range is F1-B4.
@@FaanaMusic Funny, Take 6 is one of Geoff's favorite groups. He mentioned them in a recent interview he did with Peter Barber who is a professional Opera singer that also does acapella with a group called The Bass Gang. Peter does some really great deep dives and a lot of Voiceplay reactions. Once you react to a Voiceplay song you should check out his reaction to that song for an interesting take. I also highly recommend his group, the Bass Gang. They recently released a cover of Jolly Sailor Bold that is stunning. I also especially love their covers of Mad World and Centuries.
Voiceplay is amazing, youll love everything you see from them 😊 Also, i noticed you mentioned you live in london, have you by chance ever heard of ren or the big push? 💜💜 amazing musical talent on ren, and the big push is the busking band he was in💜
VoicePlay are a unique a capella group; their videos are often theatrical in nature, with costume and settings giving the feel of a mini musical. There are currently four full time members with guest artists making up the five part harmonies. And no, there is no trickery. Geoff's voice is that deep.. In fact he has a five octave range from A0 to A#5. They have three tmies used a violin - played by the vocal percussionsit - but otherwise it's always all vocal. And yes Geoff often plays the villain due to his low voice. His bass laugh is quite something. :) Oh and their arrangments often give us goosebumps and chills.
Thank you, I'm really amazed! In terms of the low voice I didn't necessarily mean he wouldn't sing it, but the mix is so good that it shocked me. A0 - are you kidding!!! 🤯
@@FaanaMusic Well no. He's been working on his bass range for years and has now achieved a subharmonic A0. If he goes much lower only elephants and whales will hear it. :)
Welcome to the Voice Play family. Thank you for a priceless reaction to Voice Play. They are known as The Theater Kids of Acapella. I guess that comes from working at /with Disney's live shows. They do a lot of Disney cover songs such as The Little Mermaid & Hoist The Colors. Please put them on your list to react to.
Thank you for the warm welcome! I heard that you guys (Voiceplay fans) are a super friendly and dedicated bunch, but I didn't expect this much, thank you! Definitely adding to the list!
Yes please, I enjoy reactions much more when they have the thoughts of a musician behind them talking about the techniques used or the musicality of the piece rather than comments about just the performance alone.
VoicePlay has some excellent soulful and/or funky pieces. One of my fav soulful songs from them is "Man In the Mirror." They covered that right before J None left the group to sing for the US Navy. He still collabs as often as he can. I really enjoyed seeing your reaction to these guys! They really are crazy talented. They even did an orchestral piece for Halloween one year, "In the Hall of the Mountain King." And yes! We tend to enjoy the musical insights as well. We've all learned a good bit about music and ourselves from actual musicians reacting to videos that way. ❤
I just saw one of your responses about how dedicated a fan base we are, and that is really down to how much VP cares about us. Talent aside, they are just a wonderful bunch of humans! They try to take into account the things we would like to see/hear and not just what they want to do. They make their fans feel like family 😊
You asked for recommendations about other artists to react to. Let me tell you about Lucy Thomas. She is a 19, soon to be 20 year old girl from Wigan, England. She competed in the Voice Kids, UK in 2018 at the age of 14. She made it to the semi-finals. Chris Broom of Cavendish Records was so impressed with her that he signed her to a record contract. She has released 5 albums since 2019. She will have her first public concert in Manchester on March 5th, 2024. The concert is already sold out. She has collaborated with Chris Broom on a musical about the life of Rosie Boote. The musical is called Rosie. Chris Broom is writing the music and Lucy will star as Rosie. Rosie is scheduled to open in the West End, London in the Fall of 2024. Lucy's UA-cam channel is called lucythomasmusic. In my opinion, Lucy Thomas has the most beautiful singing voice that I have ever heard. She has somewhere around 70 videos on her UA-cam channel covering multiple genres. Most of her content is solo performances. However, she has several duets with her younger sister Martha and a couple of duets with the male singer Will Callan. If you check out her content, I think you will be greatly impressed bye her vocal talent.
The song is from Disney’s film the Hunchback of Notre Dame is sung by Minister Frollo, a man who feels he more pious than anyone else while simultaneously lusting than after the gypsy Esmeralda. In torment he end up singing this song and you see his descent into madness. As others will probably comment, whoever does the arrangement generally does almost everything. They are responsible for the storyboard if there’s going to be one, the venue, costumes and the arrangement. Each part is sent to the members who record in their home studio. The person in charge does the initial sound edit as well as directing the video and doing the video edit. Lately they’ve been incorporating some local friends for assistance. You can always read the credit down below where they will list everyone involved in the production. The production manager for the group is the bass singers wife. Eli, the bald tenor is generally in charge of lighting and tech wizard and has begun doing some more arrangements. We will be hearing more from his side of things this year. The final mix is sent to Ed Boyer who does the arrangements for the major a cappella groups including Home Free and Pentatonix. You’ve gotten a lot of recommendations of other pieces as well as a mention of Geoff’s solo channel. My all-time favorite is Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean 3. It has all the majesty of an opera: a sense of drama , make up, incredible music. For a sample of a more traditional a cappella style you might try their cover of Tennessee Whiskey. There have been changes since they started issuing albums in 1997. Earl, the original high tenor was with them until 2020. Around 2010 their original beatboxer left and Layne switched from baritone. They also had Eli Jacobson the bald tenor join them. Layne’s baritone spot was taken by his current business partner Tony Wakim until 2017. When Tony left, J None , second from the left, filled the baritone spot until the US Navy recruited him for his talent where he sings bass. He still appears as often as possible as a featured artist. When he left in 2021 Cesar de la Rosa, all the way far right, joined the group. They fill in the fifth spot with a variety of guest artists, frequently placing them in the middle.
Welcome to VoicePlay! Geoff definitely takes people by surprise. He has got one of the lowest bass voices out there, an octavist with a 5 octave range. He has a solo channel, just look up Geoff Castellucci. His version of "16 Tons" is really fun. Thank you for having that musician checklist. As a trombonist and arranger, there are definitely issues that have limited me, from outward forces like sexism (I've been told "girls can't play trombone as loud as a boy" since I was 14, and I thrive on proving them wrong) to inner forces like comparing myself to others who I simply don't sound like. (I tend to play trombone with a bit of grit, so I love playing rock and ska; I can't compare myself to a classical trombonist, although I received classical training.) I think most of us who love VoicePlay really appreciate reactors who dig into the musicality. We love to be educated! Some of their arrangements are so musically complex, it's hard to break down what we're hearing. For instance, I got permission to use their version of "Can't Help Falling in Love" and arrange it for brass quintet, and those chords are... crunchy!!! Beautiful use of dissonance!
Nope, Geoff Castellucci (the bass) is a beast of a bass singer with a 5 octave range! He's amazing and he has a solo channel, check out his cover of Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold! You'll be blown away
Welcome to the VoicePlay rabbit hole enjoy the ride. #TheatreKidsOfACapella. They do close to 95% of everything themselves. Arranging, directing, filming, editing, lighting, sets, props, costumes, etc. Just check the credits to their videos. Geoff Castelluci the bass and a founding member has his own channel and does LOW BASS covers. Geoff has tutorials on his channel on how he sings so low.
What a wonderful, wonderful reaction. Welcome to this new path of VoicePlay. They only get better and better. Checkout Geoff Castellucci’s channel as well. He’s the bass but has a five octave range. I’m looking forward to more reactions on your channel.
So glad that you guys enjoyed this cover! This is one of my favorite songs of theirs, it is so amazing. I will give you a bit more background on the group (though I'm sure that a lot of people have done the same haha😅). They are made up of 4 members as you know which are Geoff Castellucci, Layne Stein, Eli Jacobson, and Cesar De la Rosa. Geoff is the bass of the group. He is one of their main arrangers and also has a 4 or 5-octave range. He does have his own channel where he does some of his own solo work. Layne is the beatboxer of the group. He is another main arranger of the group (this one that you listened to today was one of his). He co-owns PattyCake Productions with Tony Wakim (who is a former member of the group). They film most of their videos in that space. Eli is the tenor of the group. He also does some of the arrangements (his most recent is "Creep originally by Radiohead). He is mostly known as a "rock tenor" because he is really good at going up into that range. He just has a crazy range in general. Last is Cesar, who is the baritone/tenor of the group. He is the newest member of the group who just joined in 2021. He is really expressive in all of their videos. They are known as the theatre kids of acapella. They put a lot of work into their videos with all of the work that they do for the set, lighting, costumes, and makeup. They are also all amazing at really acting out the songs and showing the emotions of the songs that they do. Some of my recommendations for what songs to check out next are "Drunken Sailor", "Creep", "We Don't Talk About Bruno", "Wicked Medley", "Valhalla Calling", and "Dream On". I am so glad that you have reacted to them! I would definitely love to hear more insight on the music side of it, I love reactions that go indepth with that. Thank you so much for the great reaction, I have subscribed for more VoicePlay reactions and for any other reactions that you do!!❤
Voiceplay are amazing. And no matter what video you watch you can't go wrong. They have tons to choose from. Left to right.... Layne Stein - beatboxer, baritone, arrangements. J None - baritone, guest, former member. Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci - Bass, arrangements. Eli (like jelly) Jacobson - tenor, rock tenor, lighting, arrangements. Cesar De La Rosa - baritone, tenor. The bass, Geoff Castellucci has his own channel where he sings solo with instruments. He usually clones himself 3-4 times for harmonies. Each with their own name and personality.... Jeoph, Jeff, Goff and Daryl. All of his videos are also amazing. My recommendations.... Voiceplay - Halo Theme. Drunken Sailor. In The Hall of The Mountain King. Hide and Seek. Live.... Road Trip. Chicken Song. Elvira. Geoff.... Ain't No Sunshine. Folsom Prison Blues. Man of Constant Sorrow. Ghost Riders In The Sky. Rains of Castemere. Welcome to the Voiceplay/Geoff Castellucci rabbit holes 🐰🐰
I love seeing people's reactions when they watch #TheVoicePlay for the first time, as these guys usually leave me in awe with each video! ❤❤❤❤❤ I hope you watch their other videos, I bet you won't regret it! 😉
I enjoyed this immensely -- welcome to the wonderful world of VoicePlay! There are _so_ many wonderful songs they've covered. You have lots of recommendations already, so I'll just strap in for the ride. Subscribed 😁
Welcome to the DEEP rabbit hole that Voiceplay are 🙂. I like your ways of "taking in" the song/performance, and then explain what you get from it and what you perceive behind it. Voiceplay can be a true mine for such kind of things. Their arrangements, as you noticed for this video, are rich in intricacies, and there are other songs that showcase it even more 🙂. They cover pretty much ANY genre. All of them have a background as performers at either Disney or Universal theme parks (they're based in Orlando, Florida), so they covered a number of Disney stuff (just as an example, "We don't talk about Bruno", from Encanto... Disney itself hired them to perform it live at a corporate private event, after watching it 😉), but they have covered songs like "Nothing else matters" by Metallica, or "Superstition", or "Dream on" by Aerosmith (part of a "post-apocalyptic trilogy" that includes Imagine Warriors' "Warriors", "Dream on", and White Striipes' "7 Nation Army"), more modern songs like Radioheads' "Creep" (a beautiful arrangement that brought more than a tear to viewers...), Vikings related stuff ("My mother told me" and "Valhalla calling"), sweeter things like "True colours" and "I can't help falling in love", LOTS of Halloween stuff (they actually OWN Halloween 😁), even classical music (their rendition of "In the hall of the Mountain King" from Grieg's "Peer Gynt" is hilarious AND virtuosic at the same time), iconic songs like "Eleanor Rigby" or tributes to a famous group like "Queen in 5 minutes"... Could go on forever 😅. They also have a nice sense of humour, which to me is a very good point. 🙂 Geoff Castellucci, the bass singer, has his own "solo" channel, which is another nice rabbit hole. I'd suggest you to check his two "Hobbit" songs, "Far over the Misty Mountains cold" (from the first movie) and "I see fire" (from the second movie)... and remember that, with the only exception of the Christmas song "Mele Kalikimaka", ALL the voices you hear in his video are his, and ALL the characters you see are him (even if they look different because of makeup and costumes...) 😁. Another a cappella group that I love as well is Home Free. They're friends with Voiceplay, and extremely talented as well. I'd suggest "Man of constant sorrow" or "Brothers in arms" as a starting point. 🙂 Just subscribed in anticipation of more reactions like this. 🙂 See you next time!
Thanks for taking your time and writing this comment, as a big Beatles fan, I'm super curious about their version of 'Eleanor Rigby' also the Hobbit tune must be stunning I can imagine. More coming your way guys!
They are so great!! Geoff Castellucci, the bass, has some tutorial videos on his own channel. I highly recommend them! They’re called “How to sing REALLY low. A short tutorial”, “How to sing LOW. Your questions answered: part 1.”, “How to sing low. Your questions answered: part 2.” and “Singing REALLY LOW, questions answered”.
I do love every time I find someone reacting to Voiceplay for the very first time. I really liked your reaction and hope you do more as they have such a wide variety of styles they cover and SO much to comment on if you want to do a deeper analysis. They currently have 4 members and then generally a guest though J None is one of the more common guests and was a member before he joined the navy. They all have insanely wide ranges and abilities to vary their feel but still all have their own distinct tone and style. Geoff is the bass and has his own channel i think you would love, I think I see Fire (from the Hobbit) showcases his ability to look sound like multiple different people the best. Layne is an insane beatboxer and has a lovely soft singing voice. Eli (The small bald one) has an amazing range but is best known for his rock tenor voice. Cesar has a very distinctive tone and is very sassy but will also make you cry in tracks like Creep. This track is from the Hunchback of Notre Dame so a Disney musical and is probably the most adult villain song in a Disney film because his obsession is just so human. For something lighter but still Disney try We don't talk about Bruno. So many others, many people have already mentioned. Dragonborn comes (from Skyrim the game) or Halo (for no words..) Hall of the Mountain king (still no words), Valhalla Calling, Seven Nation Army, Nothing else matters (acapella Metallica !) and so on
I second all the recommendations below. Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci is an alien with a 5 octive range. If you like soulful you should listen to #Voiceplay's cover of I Can't Make You Love Me, originally by Bonnie Raitt. On Geoff's solo channel you should listen to his cover of Jack's Lament from The Nightmare Before Christmas or Aint No Sunshine originally by Bill Withers. I have subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay (my fav) and Home Free (my 2nd fav). I really hope you do include more musician insights in your reactions. I will watch the entire video! Looking forward to seeing more.
Welcome to VoicePlay! I am subscribing and eagerly waiting for more. This was a great reaction, and you've already picked up on so much. I love your enthusiasm for what you're listening to.
About the education side of your reactions. I watch probably 60 reactors, just because I like watching people love the artist as much as I do. But there are 6, maybe 7, that I watch specifically because of their insight into the vocal or production side of the music. Please, enlighten us, we'll love it. Trust me.
Thank you for this! I will do my best to provide more details about the music and production side of it while still keeping it entertaining, I enjoy talking about this stuff a lot and so it's great to see that it's interesting for others too.
I recommend Misty Mountain on Geoff’s solo channel. And if you still can’t believe he can sing that low, there are plenty of live demonstrations on tiktok.
Layne and Geoff have been changing out on the video projects. Toward the end of 2023, Eli (bald tenor aka Rock God) did the project for Creep (RadioHead) and he will bein the rotation with both Geoff and Layne. VoicePlay is unusual in that they do everything themselves with the exception of the final audio mix (Ed Boyer who does all the big name a capella groups) and for complicated makeup or prosthetics they hire specialists (see In the Hall of the Mountain King). One of VoicePlay's baritones, Tony Wakim (he's the fellow in black with his back to us) gave up on singing and wanted to take up productions, so he and Layne bought a studio (Pattycake Productions) and a lot of Geoff's solos and VoicePlay's are filmed there. No contracts which means they are the sole creators for what they do. The fellow in charge of their monthly video does the arrangement, costuming, staging, pre-mix audio, camera work, etc. The arrangement gets sent to the vocalists, any adjustments get done. Eli does the lighting and any computer generation, green screens, etc. Cesar has his own project (only 2 Loops so far which show the 4 guys doing a fast arrangement for themselves and the new short video is ready to be watched. Loop 1 is of Choose Your Fighter (Barbie movie) and the second one, Geoff won the toss and chose Return to Sender (Elvis). They not only do full-length videos like Hellfire but also TikTok minis (less than 2 minutes) done in the mall outside the studio. Do check out Nothing Else Matters (Metallica). The band Chicago heard this and contacted them to see if they would join them on stage in Nov for their Chicago and Friends concert. They were seriously impressed.
Thanks for doing this! I'm female actually, like, "Just one of the gals!" (Slang term for a female, rhymes with "Pal.") The "Draven" part, is from my favorite movie since it came out in 1993, "The Crow." The lead character is named Eric Draven. My picture is of an English actor, David Tennant, who played the Tenth and Fourteenth Doctor in "Doctor Who." And nope, that's all vocal. Geoff Castellucci has a five octave range. He also has a solo channel, very much worth checking out. I'm so glad you love them!
I wish more VoicePlay fans would support reactors because they get such a far reach and earn new fans that way. I’ve noticed a lot of reactors react to other groups more because they get more views and likes. 😢 I wish we could spread the word….
@@thisismetoday7423 I've seen subscribers go from two digits to four digits a couple weeks after they start listening to Voiceplay and Home Free. So, share the reactor's videos and it will help spread the word.
@@DravenGal I was saying that reactions to HF videos, and Pentatonix videos get a lot more views and likes and comments. The home fries and pentaholics seem to be more involved… and some reactors only care about the views and likes.
@@thisismetoday7423 Oh, I think the Voiceplayas are pretty active too. At least from what I've seen. But they don't tour as much, so I think that makes a difference. I think it's probably hard to tour without a solid fifth member. I mean, they always pick the best guests for their songs, and it'd be really hard to take Omar, Anthony, Ashley, Rachel and so forth ALL on a tour with them! (But it would be AWESOME!)
You're welcome, apologies for mistaking your gender, I only saw the small profile picture and made the assumption not recognizing the actor. I see it now! Thank you for the explanation! 🙏
You may be interested in watching Voiceplay reactions by Peter Barber and Elizabeth Zharoff/The Charismatic Voice. Both are singers of some renown, both do or have done Opera, and do fabulous reactions-they're really good at picking up the intricacies of songs. Peter is also in an A Capella group called "The Bass Gang."
VoicePlay has something for everybody. Some of my favorites are Metallica's Nothing Else Matters, Hoist The Colors, Valhalla Calling, and Creep. Geoff Castellucci, the bass, has his own channel and he has some wonderful covers for the bass lovers. You really can't go wrong with anything you choose from VoicePlay or Geoff.
Great performance for sure! Voiceplay's Dragonborn Comes is amazing! Hall of the Mountain King is acapella with on words and really shows the talent of Voiceplay. Will be following you for any future Voiceplay reactions. Thanks!
Great reaction- thanks! I am a new subscriber looking forward to more Voice Play reactions from you as they are so informative. Voice Play is often called the theater kids of acapella music because they are so theatrical. No record label or contract- they do all of their own production and are amazing! I would recommend "Valhalla Calling" next but check out their playlist and react to any song you know and like-- you will never be disappointed!
Amazing, thanks for the sub and recommendation. I have already recorded the next reaction - it's Superstition by Stevie, you are first to know, I'll post it over next few days.
I had to stop working to watch your reaction as you discovered these guys! Welcome to the VP family! I also recommand Geoff's cover of "Jack's Lament" if you want to see what he can do :D
So nice to watch you in all the awe and wonder I experience watching this masterpiece. AND it gives me the creepy crawlies because of the dark lyrics every time as well. Please let yourself be sucked into the vast cavern of VP awsomeness! Subscribed and waiting for more! Have a go at "nothing else matters" and risk a peek into Geoff's solo channel ... the bass. His voice is real. He has worked on it all his life and every praise is well earned. Did you see Cesar singing (and airplaying) an e-guitar? Everyone of them is genious!🎉😂❤
@@FaanaMusic he is actually playing air guitar and singing it - check at about 1:40 (just before the person comes in "she's gone!"...) Thanks for answering... always nice to be in contact somehow. Greetings from Austria...🙂

Thank you! You guys (Voiceplay family) are incredible! I can't promise I'll get through it all, but I'll add them to the list and see what I can do! Really appreciated! ❤️
Great reaction! I always enjoy seeing the faces of people hearing Geoff's bass for the first time. 😁 I recommend you check out their versions of Valhalla Calling and Hoist the Colours. They also have a cover of Metallica's Nothing Else Matters that is amazing!
Welcome to the Voiceplay Rabbit Hole. If you need anymore info just ask and im sure you'll get at least one ir ten people answering it. Quick introduction to the group starting from the left Layne Stein - beatboxer/vocal percussionist/baritone/alien hiding in plain sight and Founding member (the group used to be call 4:2:five). He arranges about 50% of their songs and is a master at editing. He also co-owns Patty Cake Productions with Tony Wakim (former member, and played the gaurd) where they film most of their videos. He also the jokester of the group. J None - Baritone and featured artist in this song. He left the group to join the Navy where he sings bass with his current group. Whenever he gets a chance he comes back and joins the group delighting the fans. Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci - Bass Singer who most people have already told you about. He's also a founding member. Eli (rhymes with jelly) Jacobson - Tenor/Rock God and helps with arrangements. As of right now he has done two song by himself Eleanor Rigby and Creep (both worth checking out). He gets the fun job of lighting and special effects. He also was the voice for the gaurd in the middle of the song. He is also a professional voice actor. Cesar de La Rosa - Sassy Baritone and hidden Tenor. Cesar is the newest member of the group, he replaced J None as the Baritone. He also performs with other groups around Orlando Florida (where these guys are based) Hope you enjoy your trip down the Rabbit Hole. I know I have. 😊
I suggest you please check out their covers of Hoist the Colors (which has broken many a reactor), Nothing Else Matters, and Valhalla Calling. If you like the movie Nightmare Before Christmas, they've sang some songs from there too.
Wonderful! I really appreciate your reaction to my most favorite adorable group. Just subscriped and hope, that you will allow us to escort you in this cute and plushy rabbit hole. Greetings from Germany
I'm looking forward to seeing more of your Voiceplay (and possible solo Geoff Castellucci reactions???)!!! I'd love to see what you think of their cover of Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, when you have the time!

1:56 Geoff Castellucci has an amazing range, right? I love listening to this group. And Geoff's channel itself too.
Sounds awesome! Thank you for the warm welcome! A lot more is coming! 🤩
@@FaanaMusic His bass is real. He has a vocal range of 5 octaves
No effect for Geoff's super low notes, he really does sing that low. The super low notes are done with the subharmonic technique, which he is very skilled at, but he also is abke to go down to F1 in pure chest voice
No effect to create the low note, but his subharmonics in this cover are definitely layered with some reverb effect to thicken them a bit.
Thanks for the comment, I better not doubt this guy ever again. To my defense, I meant it more in terms of the sound of it rather than his ability to sing that low, but thank you for enlightening me! 🙏❤️
That's more what I meant, YES! Thanks!
Thank you, the feedback from the VP family has been incredible so far. I can't wait to do more! Thanks for all the love! 🙏❤️
Love first time reactors to Voiceplay! They are just the best. They can scare the heck out of you, make you laugh uncontrollably, break your heart, or just give you a toe tapping good time.
Creep or I Can't Make You Love Me - breaks your heart
Drunken Sailor or The Lion Sleeps Tonight - fall down laughing
Hoist the Colours or Valhalla Calling - stunning
They are completely independent, no label, no manager.
Can't wait to dive in! Especially the soulful pieces! 🤩🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️
The video they advertise at the end, 'Drunken Sailor," is a lot of fun! It doesn't have J. None, but their guest is Jose Rosario Jr, who plays a perfect pirate captain! He also does in "Hoist The Colors," which is truly one of their best.
Thank you for introducing me to this deep rabbit hole. The response has been incredible so far. I can't wait to do more! 🙏❤️
And has begun arranging as well (see the cover of RadioHead's "Creep")
Since you apparently like funky, I'm going to suggest their covers of "Superstition" and "Friends on the Other Side" as the obvious place to start. But do not skip their more rock oriented songs. They can be amazing. Eli in particular has a fantastic voice for rock, but they all sound practically unreal!
I'll leave space for someone else to tell you about the other two guys here. Subscribed and off to see what other videos you have!
Thank you for the enlightening comment and recommendations! I can't wait to hear how they interpreted Stevie! More coming! 🙏❤️
Geoff, the guy singing the low notes (the bassline under his lead is him multi-tracked, too), has a crazy range of A0-A#5. Just his chest range is F1-B4.
Crazy! I mean I thought the bass from Take 6 was incredibly low and he said he had Bb0 but A0 that's something!
Voiceplay is amazing, youll love everything you see from them 😊
Also, i noticed you mentioned you live in london, have you by chance ever heard of ren or the big push? 💜💜 amazing musical talent on ren, and the big push is the busking band he was in💜
Geoff's range is on full display here. Welcome to the rabbit hole.
Based on the broad preference stated maybe you'd like if I was a rich man/girl or friends on the other side for the next voiceplay video
@@FaanaMusic thank you ❤️
They have some funky ones - Superstition and Kiss are a couple that come to mind but you can’t go wrong with anything they do. They are truly amazing!
Oooh, Stevie is my big hero, I'm definitely adding to my list! Thank you! 🙏
Yes please, I enjoy reactions much more when they have the thoughts of a musician behind them talking about the techniques used or the musicality of the piece rather than comments about just the performance alone.
Thank you for your comment, I will make sure I'll include insights from my music perspective in the future! 🔥❤️
I love how you experience music! Welcome to VoicePlay (and Geoff Castellucci)! My fave music on UA-cam. ❤🔥
They even did an orchestral piece for Halloween one year, "In the Hall of the Mountain King."
And yes! We tend to enjoy the musical insights as well. We've all learned a good bit about music and ourselves from actual musicians reacting to videos that way. ❤
Oooh, wow. You seem to get me really well, I'm excited about this!
The setting for the Hunchback of Notre Dame is a huge cathedral, Notre Dame, thus the huge room feel.
Yes, please, more VoicePlay, please.
Coming!
2:05 so he’s never heard Geoff before
Love VoicePlay. They have R&B, funny stuff, rock music, oldies,
This was argueably one of VoicePlay's most impressive pieces, but regardless of what they are doing, it is always worth a look. :)
Nope, Geoff Castellucci (the bass) is a beast of a bass singer with a 5 octave range! He's amazing and he has a solo channel, check out his cover of Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold! You'll be blown away
Each member or featured collaborator is stunning. This is amazing
Wow, thank you so much it's such a pleasure to be one of the gang now. Thank you for the warm welcome!
Btw, it's impressive they do everything themselves. I think this is the future of the music industry - more immediate connection to the fans!
What a wonderful, wonderful reaction. Welcome to this new path of VoicePlay. They only get better and better. Checkout Geoff Castellucci’s channel as well. He’s the bass but has a five octave range. I’m looking forward to more reactions on your channel.
Thank you for the unbelievable welcome and all the recommendations I've received so far, I'm all in!
Wow, thanks for all of this, I'm especially curious about the 'Ain't No Sunshine' cover. I feel like the entire whole new world just opened to me! 🤩
I love seeing people's reactions when they watch #TheVoicePlay for the first time, as these guys usually leave me in awe with each video! ❤❤❤❤❤
I hope you watch their other videos, I bet you won't regret it! 😉
We fans love our boys! They are so creative and talented, and never disappoint.
Amazing! More reactions are on the way!
Welcome to the VP rabbit hole, there is always room for more here. Can't wait to see more of your reactions on this journey!
It's coming, thanks for flooding me with the welcome comments, really appreciate it guys!
I enjoyed this immensely -- welcome to the wonderful world of VoicePlay! There are _so_ many wonderful songs they've covered. You have lots of recommendations already, so I'll just strap in for the ride. Subscribed 😁
Thanks for the sub! Incredible reactions so far, I'm in! More coming your way!
Geoff Castellucci, the bass singer, has his own "solo" channel, which is another nice rabbit hole.
Just subscribed in anticipation of more reactions like this. 🙂
See you next time!
Thanks for taking your time and writing this comment, as a big Beatles fan, I'm super curious about their version of 'Eleanor Rigby' also the Hobbit tune must be stunning I can imagine. More coming your way guys!
@@FaanaMusic For Beatles - Geoff also has a wonderful cover of "Blackbird" on his solo channel.
These could be interesting to react to and analyze too, I'll check them out. Thanks a lot!
@@FaanaMusic I’m looking forward to seeing a reaction to them!😊
I do love every time I find someone reacting to Voiceplay for the very first time.
Welcome to the VoicePlay rabbit hole!
Thank you! 🙏
Just subscribed to his channel. Thank you!
I think of Geoff’s subharmonics as dragon purrs. LOL. I enjoyed this reaction-there’s lots more to check out and all of it is great!
Haha, dragon purr, love that. More is coming!
Their bass singer Geoff also has his own UA-cam , not only does he sing but he even shows how he does his low notes :)
I have already subscribed and checked some of it, thank you!
Everyone else has said all that needs to be said... so all that's left is for me to subscribe and wait for your next reactions. 😊 🇬🇧
Thank you for the sub! Glad to be here! More coming!
More! They're beyond awesome 👌
Coming! 🔥🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️
Welcome to the world of subharmonics, a bass technique that gives you an extra octave.
Hello fellow Draven
@@halox3xdraven Well howdy!!! Your first name IRL doesn't start with a "K" by any chance, does it?
@@DravenGal No ma'am. It's Charles actually
@@halox3xdraven Okay, just making sure you're not my Crow Mentor! And thank you for noticing I'm female!
@@DravenGal I read a few of your comments on some other reactions 😂
Thanks!
Fantastic reaction! Wonderful to watch, welcome to the Voiceplayas!! ❤🎉
Cathedral..medieval..villain bass ..well, it is the villain song from Disney's Hunchback if Notre Dame ❤
I have already recorded the next reaction - it's Superstition by Stevie, you are first to know, I'll post it over next few days.
great reaction and welcome to the world of Voiceplay- and there are so many more masterpieces to react to from this amazing a capella group
Thank you, I have a whole list of them already they will be coming soon, thank you for your comment! 🙏
I’ve only known about Voiceplay and Geoff Castellucci for about 6 months. I am obsessed with them. Rabbit hole is correct.
I have taken all into my heart!❤ they are so fantastic and Geoff solo stuff is just amazing!...🫶🙏👍 more like this!
I had to stop working to watch your reaction as you discovered these guys! Welcome to the VP family! I also recommand Geoff's cover of "Jack's Lament" if you want to see what he can do :D
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out. You guys are so welcoming, that's amazing! 🙏
I have now subscribed to Geoff's channel, but I haven't seen Cesar with the e-guitar you're mentioning. Please feel free to share. 🙏
@@FaanaMusic he is actually playing air guitar and singing it - check at about 1:40 (just before the person comes in "she's gone!"...)
Thanks for answering... always nice to be in contact somehow. Greetings from Austria...🙂

Quick introduction to the group starting from the left
Layne Stein - beatboxer/vocal percussionist/baritone/alien hiding in plain sight and Founding member (the group used to be call 4:2:five).
He also performs with other groups around Orlando Florida (where these guys are based)
Hope you enjoy your trip down the Rabbit Hole. I know I have. 😊
Amazing aren't they? I like their Oogie Boogie myself. Keep Reacting.
The bass is all Geoff(Jeff)
Great reaction Welcome to voiceplay. You will not be disappointed. Try hoist the colours
I suggest you please check out their covers of Hoist the Colors (which has broken many a reactor), Nothing Else Matters, and Valhalla Calling.
If you like the movie Nightmare Before Christmas, they've sang some songs from there too.
Nothing Else Matters has been recommended so many times now I think it's gonna be one of my next reactions. Thank you!
Wonderful! I really appreciate your reaction to my most favorite adorable group. Just subscriped and hope, that you will allow us to escort you in this cute and plushy rabbit hole. Greetings from Germany
Yep. Looks like your subscribers already went up some!
I'm looking forward to seeing more of your Voiceplay (and possible solo Geoff Castellucci reactions???)!!! I'd love to see what you think of their cover of Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, when you have the time!
the bass is all Geoff no enhancements it is all him
Yeah, I realize what he can do now after checking his channel and some of his demonstrations. Wow!
Great Reaction.
I would like to see you react to Dan Vasc. He's a phenomenal metal singer out of Brasil. He is also an independent artist.
Thank you, I'm always excited to get new inspiration for reactions and analysis!
If you wanna hear some bass, you should listen to "Valhalla Calling" by Voiceplay.
Geoff can go lower!
I cant wait to see more VP reactions from you. I subscribed in hopes😊
Considering the reaction, I'm getting from you (VP family) guys, it's definitely coming! Thanks for the sub!
😃
Hell yeah!
Geoff is able to hit and sustain a subharmonic B0
Welcome to voiceplay
Please please react to their version of Hoist the colours (pirates of carabbian 3)
Geoff doesn't need a mic to resonate his bass
I checked his channel now and saw it. Wow, what a beast.
Geoff the bass has a 5 octave range. Lowest he has gone is B0.
Please react to creep by VP
I'll put it on the list! Thank you!
🤩❤️ Thanks for all the love!
