he handled this question so much better than jensen did. even though he isn't 100% for destiel, he answered in a way that was good for everyone there. misha was thoughtful of the feelings of everyone in the room and this is one of the things that makes him such a great guy.

I totally understand where he's going with this, and it's wonderful that he acknowledges that there are so many different kinds of love. Destiel is literally the best love story I've ever seen in any TV show, and the very first same sex pair I ever shipped and really wanted to see together. It has SO much potential. Honestly. If Cas was a girl, I swear Dean and her would have already kissed, and more. There just would be no denying anything, and there would be less people saying the pairing is wrong/gross/impossible/fantasy/delusional etc.. Of course, there would still be people who hated it, or didn't like it, but there would just be no denyhing that there's something there (like Ron/Hermione, for example, which I didn't like, but still, it was totally there and there was no denying). And there would be all the Destiel drama that is happening now, but with actual love comfirmed, you know. And the show would totally use the relationship more to benefit and create a lot of drama too, like between Sam and Dean, and Dean and the hunting community and even the plot, etc. It would certainly bring a lot of interest. Man, Destiel just has so much potential, why can't they see it? x(

Misha confuses me. On Twitter he's all about Destiel but when people ask about it in real life he gets awkward. If Destiel happens, awesome cool. I ship Destiel. But if it doesn't become Canon, whatever. If we shippers like the thought of Destiel, let us. At least we're not going the incest route and shipping Dean and Sam (Wincest)
I think the reason Misha gets awkward about the questions in real live is because he doesn’t want to anger anyone. Their are a lot of snipers in the crowd as well as non shippers and a question about a certain ship might anger people that aren’t a part of it or against it. It’s why some panels don’t allow shipping questions, some members of the audience might get angered by the question so actors don’t answer the question in order for their to be peace
Destiel is such a difficult topic in this fandom, while i am a die hard destiel shipper, I don't ship it because of hints or clues I saw in the show, I merely ship it because I like to see them in a deep and strong relationship. There are scenes where it COULD have been subtext, but frankly, these scenes can all be explained with a profound bound or just two best friends loving each other like brothers. So it makes me feel understandably uncomfortable, when people acuse the writers or misha of queerbaiting. Yeah they said "wait and see" when talking about destiel, but you guys have to know there are always two sides of wait and see. 1. Wait and see how it becomes canon 2. Wait and see how it does not Maybe, the writers thought about making destiel canon but for some reasons they decided not to, and since they are the writers I think they have a good reason not to. But of course, I have no idea if its true or not. It hurts me a lot when destiel shippers are harassing the actors/writers and are insulting them. (I am not talking about politely critizing - that is good). I think some destiel shippers should just stop making the actors uncomfortable, ship destiel, read fanfiction, make destiel videos, do whatever you want to do but please when you talk to actors about it - be polite, and dont get mad when they say something you dont want to hear.

You're right. I ship Destiel, I would love to have it canon (at least one episode or at the end of the show or spin-off or whatever), but when it does make the actors (for example Jensen) uncomfortable then stop harassing them! Asking about Destiel WON'T make it canon! But unlike you I ship Destiel because for me there are several Destiel-moments in the show, but that's just my opinion. Of course there are people who interpret their scenes as bromance. Took me till season 6 until I started shipping but later on I noticed for myself some Destiel-moments in season 4 & 5 after watching it again. And btw: why such hate between Destiel-shippers and those who doesn't ship it? That's so unnecessary and stupid. For me if people who think of them as bromance and give me good reasons then I love to read even those opinions even though I'll never agree to this opinion (sry xD)

On the point of angels, there's a difference between sex, gender, and orientation. Although angels don't express a physical biological sex, they do have a gender identity. They refer to themselves as "she" or "he", and usually take vessels of that gender. ( I say usually, because Raphael had a woman vessel at the end of season 6 ) But if Castiel were to recognize himself as a "woman" would people have a problem with Destiel? No. I *am* a Destiel shipper, but in my own way. I don't fantasize about Destiel sex, or wish it was canon. I don't want to see a mid-crisis make out session on screen. I like the subtlety of it all. I like that Castiel is confused as to sexual orientation, and Dean has trouble communicating his feelings (platonic or not). It's mentioned in the show several times that they share a "profound bond", so there is nothing wrong with fans interpreting that as they please. Just because one shipper writes fanfic doesn't mean we all want to watch this show digress from monsters to sexual tension.

If you don't really see it and you like it that way, though, then be assured that it won't digress to anything... it's already there. Now the tension just needs to break, although I agree with you that it's tricky to time it right and then keep it interesting. The problem with Destiel, though, is that we all know it won't happen. Sort of takes the joy out of the tension when you know it will never break, or worse, it'll fade due to poor writing choices :(

When it comes to a show that's basically fueled by the fandom, it's important not to do something drastic like that. LucyInTheSky10 but there's a core difference between destiel and wincest... you can't equate a gay ship with an incest ship. plus, the amount of support for destiel is practically at the level of support for major straight ships on other shows. those ships are always hated by some of the fandom too, but the showrunners still go ahead and do it. i'm not usually a very cynical person but no matter which way i look at it, destiel is doomed purely because it's slash and that seems wrong to me. you're very right, though, that it's fun having just the tension without the drama of a romantic relationship (well there's a fair amount of romantic drama actually but still).
If the cast can't say what they honestly think about it and fans aren't allowed to mention it at conventions then can someone tell me why the writers and the set designers etc keep putting it in? These characters have chemistry that is undeniable. It's a totally different chemistry than between the brothers. Why not use it? Because it's the U.S . If it was in the UK I am pretty sure they'd have shagged ages ago.

Jensen and Misha are professionals. Jensen has played a bisexual character before. I am not talking about sex I am talking about love. A romantic relationship between two characters. It doesn't have to be graphic. And as for giving the actors a say, it rarely happens that way. Jensen said he hated the Dean and Lisa storyline and didn't think it was true to Dean but they went ahead anyway.
No matter how many time I watch this video or read the comments even, It's very frustrating to see both everyone's point of view. There's the main things that people people vote for, Destiel, and then the non Destiel shipper's. Now when I first joined watching the show, I didn't expect to see any bond contributing to the fact that Destiel could be real, or that it could not be real. When I first joined in, I thought "Oh yeah, this is gonna be great! Two brothers that go after paranormal things, count me in!". However, as Season four came in, I was becoming aware Castiel and Dean weren't very close, and as the seasons continued, I got proved wrong. There bond grew, once again, at first I thought nothing of it. I thought they'd be pretty good pals, nothing more, and as far as I'm aware of, I haven't been proved wrong. I do strongly agree that there really is no right or wrong answer, that it has been denied by them, and yet, at the very same time it has not been denied. As said before, it's as if they're teasing us to get us to stay with the show. About Season 10 coming up shortly, I disagree with the people who are leaving because of Deans new love interest. Yes, it would be nice to have a ship that you really want to have become canon, but at the same time, it wouldn't. You may say "Well, they're actors, they should be used to doing things that they're not comfortable with doing.", but that's not the point. The point is that there really had been no straight forward answer saying it is canon, or it's not. I love the intensity of Dean and Cas's bro love. Who knows what's really going on between them, they're obviously closer than the average bros, but it's hard to say. Whatever the case, they've got a beautifully complex relationship and it's one of the best parts of the show for me :)
I feel like it's hard to come out of the kind of stuff they've gone through together and not have a "profound bond", something deeper than average friendship. Personally I don't think they are /in love/ but I think that they love one another a lot. It's possible to feel for someone even more deeply than in a romantic or sexual context and I would say that that is the nature of their relationship.
okay hers a solution/turn of events.. Cas is an angel right... can take on form of different people or "vessels" so the writers make him a girl for 1 epp for some reason. Dean and Cas sleep and then Cas goes back to being Misha.... that way it would be more easier for Dean to accept it and there would be no going back. Plus i think it would be quite funny....

I love how respectful he is of everyone, and how important everything is to him. You can just tell that his feelings on the queerbaiting accusations and stuff are genuine, and yet he's also so kind to the shipping audience. He makes sure to answer thoughtfully in a way that is an answer to everyone. Every time I see or hear more about him, my respect goes up.
i'm calling bullshit. cas is a fantastic CHARACTER in his own right independant of dean. he's not some pocket attachment. he gets his own storylines often largely independant or even in direct opposition of the brothers, has had his own centric episodes and has his own extensive fanbase, many of whom don't give 2 hoots about destiel. they like the character cas. the reason is simple - he's a wonderfully interesting, powerful, funny and nuanced character portrayed brilliantly by a talented actor.
can I just say the misha handles destiel questions WAY better then jensen, jensen always ends up being sort of rude and just dismissive to the fan and I understand that it makes him uncomfortable but there are other ways he could handle the question
I agree. Not criticizing Jensen because he disagree with Destiel but because of the way he handles Destiel's questions! Misha answered much more sensibly, agree or disagree. I guess it's just the 2 different persons with different personalities. Misha maybe in general is more considerate whereas Jensen is more straightforward. Casper Marsh honestly, I heard the word queerbait way too many times when I was a kid, and it was always used to badly humiliate. I get the way they're using the term is different, but those memories stick. So choosing to call a tactic of hinting at chemistry that could be queer the same as a humiliating word for bullying can be very disconcerting and hurtful. It's something people were called for being different, not fitting in, not meeting society's narrow standards of fitting in, standards of gender, or standards of sex. So using a word with such heavy baggage may be a bit short cited and cause too much grief.
Misha has just gained even more respect from me (which I didn't know was possible). It does make me quite sad, though. The first and only con I've been to was the one in Seattle which he mentioned. Hardly any of the questions there were respectable ones. Fans should be allowed to ask about Dean and Cas' relationship, yes - but the actors are being bombarded with uncomfortable questions.
Personally I think Misha handles those questions so well because he understood that they're about Dean and Castiel, not about Jensen and him. He knows we're asking about the fictional characters they portray, that we may imagine having their apperance, but not about him and Jensen. And I think it doesn't make him particullarly uncomfortable answering those questions because he knows that most of us have this clear distinction between fictional characters and real people.
Misha handles himself so well with the tougher questions, especially ones that, as he said have bothered people in the past. He's very honest while still being considerate of the diverse opinions. But I am glad he is completely willing to stand up when he recognizes the difference between disagreement and homophobia. This is why I'm a Minion, because Misha is not afraid to be EXACTLY who he is.

It's fine every once in a while to bring it up because people are curious, and that's ok--plus I know the issue of bisexual/homosexual relationships in tv is important to a lot of folks. But they get asked about it so, so much, and I think they're supposed to stay kinda tight-lipped about it. Whether it becomes full-on canon is out of their and our hands. But don't let that take away from what the relationship means to you:-)
the question she initiated to ask wasn't even about destiel directly, but more about deans development and she wanted it to have like a controversial tone. if the crowd had let her finish her question, jensen would have been completely free to say that he doesn't want to answer that or whatever - but i personally think saying 'don't ruin it for everybody.' was a bad reaction.
Yes, as a destiel shipper myself I am more than often... I don't want to say 'disgusted'... but very displeased with the destiel fandom. We get portrayed as rabid fans shoving our ideals down people's throats because of the loud childish members of the fandom. Not all of us are like that. And I'm so happy to hear about people who love Cas just as much as I do even when he is not being shipped with anyone. He truly is an amazing character.

Just because a person doesn't think Dean is bisexual doesn't mean they are homophobic.I've adored some gay or bisexual characters,but I don't think suddenly revealing that a character is bi after 8 seasons is good storytelling. Especially on a genre show that doesn't really focus on who has sex w/ who.It would take time to tell the story right (if it could even be done at this late date) and that would take away from stories that more central to the plot. Neither am I a fan of the Dean-Cas-relationship on the show (because I think it sometimes puts the brother relationship on the sidelines). But this statement of him was just brilliant!!! How did you come to that conclusion? Cas is SO much more than that. Cas was scripted to only be in about 6 episodes. Cas took over Anna's storyline and arc because the fans loved him and Misha from the get-go, before any subtext happened. Misha doesn't "need" Destiel, he is so much more then that, I've met people who hate or don't ship Destiel and still ADORE Cas' character. Misha is such a stunning guy outside of work too with charity and all that. Misha and Cas are amazing. Destiel or not.
The funny thing is that the reason most people who react this way to these questions is not because they don't like Destiel, it's because they think the actors doesn't like being asked the question, when in reality they just don't like the people who're being hateful or creating awkwardness when these questions are asked. Their are a lot of snipers in the crowd as well as non shippers and a question about a certain ship might anger people that aren’t a part of it or against it. Destiel is such a difficult topic in this fandom, while i am a die hard destiel shipper, I don't ship it because of hints or clues I saw in the show, I merely ship it because I like to see them in a deep and strong relationship.
There are scenes where it COULD have been subtext, but frankly, these scenes can all be explained with a profound bound or just two best friends loving each other like brothers.
So it makes me feel understandably uncomfortable, when people acuse the writers or misha of queerbaiting. Yeah they said "wait and see" when talking about destiel, but you guys have to know there are always two sides of wait and see.
1. Wait and see how it becomes canon
2. Wait and see how it does not
Maybe, the writers thought about making destiel canon but for some reasons they decided not to, and since they are the writers I think they have a good reason not to. But of course, I have no idea if its true or not.
It hurts me a lot when destiel shippers are harassing the actors/writers and are insulting them. (I am not talking about politely critizing - that is good).
I think some destiel shippers should just stop making the actors uncomfortable, ship destiel, read fanfiction, make destiel videos, do whatever you want to do but please when you talk to actors about it - be polite, and dont get mad when they say something you dont want to hear.

You're right. I ship Destiel, I would love to have it canon (at least one episode or at the end of the show or spin-off or whatever), but when it does make the actors (for example Jensen) uncomfortable then stop harassing them! Asking about Destiel WON'T make it canon!
But unlike you I ship Destiel because for me there are several Destiel-moments in the show, but that's just my opinion. Of course there are people who interpret their scenes as bromance. Took me till season 6 until I started shipping but later on I noticed for myself some Destiel-moments in season 4 & 5 after watching it again.
And btw: why such hate between Destiel-shippers and those who doesn't ship it? That's so unnecessary and stupid. For me if people who think of them as bromance and give me good reasons then I love to read even those opinions even though I'll never agree to this opinion (sry xD)

there's a difference between sex, gender, and orientation.
Although angels don't express a physical biological sex, they do have a gender identity. They refer to themselves as "she" or "he", and usually take vessels of that gender. ( I say usually, because Raphael had a woman vessel at the end of season 6 )
But if Castiel were to recognize himself as a "woman" would people have a problem with Destiel? No.
I *am* a Destiel shipper, but in my own way. I don't fantasize about Destiel sex, or wish it was canon. I don't want to see a mid-crisis make out session on screen. I like the subtlety of it all. I like that Castiel is confused as to sexual orientation, and Dean has trouble communicating his feelings (platonic or not).
It's mentioned in the show several times that they share a "profound bond", so there is nothing wrong with fans interpreting that as they please.
Just because one shipper writes fanfic doesn't mean we all want to watch this show digress from monsters to sexual tension.

If you don't really see it and you like it that way, though, then be assured that it won't digress to anything... it's already there. Now the tension just needs to break, although I agree with you that it's tricky to time it right and then keep it interesting. The problem with Destiel, though, is that we all know it won't happen. Sort of takes the joy out of the tension when you know it will never break, or worse, it'll fade due to poor writing choices :(

LucyInTheSky10 but there's a core difference between destiel and wincest... you can't equate a gay ship with an incest ship. plus, the amount of support for destiel is practically at the level of support for major straight ships on other shows. those ships are always hated by some of the fandom too, but the showrunners still go ahead and do it. i'm not usually a very cynical person but no matter which way i look at it, destiel is doomed purely because it's slash and that seems wrong to me.
you're very right, though, that it's fun having just the tension without the drama of a romantic relationship (well there's a fair amount of romantic drama actually but still).

Jensen and Misha are professionals. Jensen has played a bisexual character before. I am not talking about sex I am talking about love. A romantic relationship between two characters. It doesn't have to be graphic. And as for giving the actors a say, it rarely happens that way. Jensen said he hated the Dean and Lisa storyline and didn't think it was true to Dean but they went ahead anyway.
No matter how many time I watch this video or read the comments even, It's very frustrating to see both everyone's point of view. There's the main things that people people vote for, Destiel, and then the non Destiel shipper's. Now when I first joined watching the show, I didn't expect to see any bond contributing to the fact that Destiel could be real, or that it could not be real. When I first joined in, I thought "Oh yeah, this is gonna be great! Two brothers that go after paranormal things, count me in!". However, as Season four came in, I was becoming aware Castiel and Dean weren't very close, and as the seasons continued, I got proved wrong. There bond grew, once again, at first I thought nothing of it. I thought they'd be pretty good pals, nothing more, and as far as I'm aware of, I haven't been proved wrong. I do strongly agree that there really is no right or wrong answer, that it has been denied by them, and yet, at the very same time it has not been denied. As said before, it's as if they're teasing us to get us to stay with the show.
About Season 10 coming up shortly, I disagree with the people who are leaving because of Deans new love interest. Yes, it would be nice to have a ship that you really want to have become canon, but at the same time, it wouldn't. You may say "Well, they're actors, they should be used to doing things that they're not comfortable with doing.", but that's not the point. The point is that there really had been no straight forward answer saying it is canon, or it's not. There are so manny ways you can prove me other wise, but either way, it will come up to the same thing.

I love the intensity of Dean and Cas's bro love. Who knows what's really going on between them, they're obviously closer than the average bros, but it's hard to say. Whatever the case, they've got a beautifully complex relationship and it's one of the best parts of the show for me :)
I feel like it's hard to come out of the kind of stuff they've gone through together and not have a "profound bond", something deeper than average friendship. Personally I don't think they are /in love/ but I think that they love one another a lot. It's possible to feel for someone even more deeply than in a romantic or sexual context and I would say that that is the nature of their relationship.

i'm calling bullshit. cas is a fantastic CHARACTER in his own right independant of dean. he's not some pocket attachment. he gets his own storylines often largely independant or even in direct opposition of the brothers, has had his own centric episodes and has his own extensive fanbase, many of whom don't give 2 hoots about destiel. they like the character cas. the reason is simple - he's a wonderfully interesting, powerful, funny and nuanced character portrayed brilliantly by a talented actor.
can I just say the misha handles destiel questions WAY better then jensen, jensen always ends up being sort of rude and just dismissive to the fan and I understand that it makes him uncomfortable but there are other ways he could handle the question

Casper Marsh honestly, I heard the word queerbait way too many times when I was a kid, and it was always used to badly humiliate. I get the way they're using the term is different, but those memories stick. So choosing to call a tactic of hinting at chemistry that could be queer the same as a humiliating word for bullying can be very disconcerting and hurtful. It's something people were called for being different, not fitting in, not meeting society's narrow standards of fitting in, standards of gender, or standards of sex. So using a word with such heavy baggage may be a bit short cited and cause too much grief.
Misha has just gained even more respect from me (which I didn't know was possible). It does make me quite sad, though. The first and only con I've been to was the one in Seattle which he mentioned. Hardly any of the questions there were respectable ones. Fans should be allowed to ask about Dean and Cas' relationship, yes - but the actors are being bombarded with uncomfortable questions.

Personally I think Misha handles those questions so well because he understood that they're about Dean and Castiel, not about Jensen and him. He knows we're asking about the fictional characters they portray, that we may imagine having their apperance, but not about him and Jensen. But they get asked about it so, so much, and I think they're supposed to stay kinda tight-lipped about it. Whether it becomes full-on canon is out of their and our hands. But don't let that take away from what the relationship means to you:-)

Yes, as a destiel shipper myself I am more than often... I don't want to say 'disgusted'... but very displeased with the destiel fandom. We get portrayed as rabid fans shoving our ideals down people's throats because of the loud childish members of the fandom. Not all of us are like that. And I'm so happy to hear about people who love Cas just as much as I do even when he is not being shipped with anyone. He truly is an amazing character.
Eh there may have been something there, but it can never compare to the love story it became. I'm just saying that when Castiel was first introduced, we never could have known their relationship would develop so deeply. But it did and it's beautiful, but it's is not all there is to Cas and Misha.

Just because a person doesn't think Dean is bisexual doesn't mean they are homophobic.I've adored some gay or bisexual characters,but I don't think suddenly revealing that a character is bi after 8 seasons is good storytelling. Actually, I have never been much of a fan of Misha's often pretty creative way of answering (or more often not answering) questions . Neither am I a fan of the Dean-Cas-relationship on the show (because I think it sometimes puts the brother relationship on the sidelines). But this statement of him was just brilliant!!! Even though you can't see it, what would be the harm in letting us have it? What would be the harm in letting the LGBT community have two main characters that don't fit into stereotypes be together? The funny thing is that the reason most people who react this way to these questions is not because they don't like Destiel, it's because they think the actors doesn't like being asked the question, when in reality they just don't like the people who're being hateful or creating awkwardness when these questions are asked.

Dean and Cas' canon relationship isn't queerbaiting, it's fan-baiting, which is also known as television. I love how he gets kinda defensive about that; it's a serious topic that he clearly cares a lot about. At first I didn't mind the destiel, but because of some part of the over-obsess shipper (who crushed everyone down if we don't see ''the one and only truth'') I can't stand it anymore and that doesn't change how much I love Misha and his character. Cas is always gonna be family, a brother :)
