I was raised on an 8000 acre farm, and it was not unusual for mr to wonder all over the farm. I had my dog Butch, half GSD and half wolf, my mom did not worry about me as long as Butch was with me. I would roam through the woods, make houses out of a growth of bamboo, use things I found to use to play with in my pretend house. Butch was trained to bring me home when the sun started to go down, even if I didn't want to. He would grab my pants and start pulling, bark a couple of times, then started out in front of me, always checking back to make sure I was close to him. Dogs are smarter than people give them credit for. Big dogs want a job to do, and I was Butch's job.
My grandmother was Pennsylvania dutch and was raised on the farm her grandparents built. It was 300 acres, but was completely surrounded by the farms of relatives. There is no way her mother would let her roam around by herself at 3! I was a country kid, too, and my mother would never have allowed it. Why? Because 3 is just a baby! And that’s no judgment on the dog, my big sisters were German Shepherds and they were unbelievable. But 3 is still a baby. How full was that diaper? How long had he gone without food or water? Were his feet wet? Most people don’t have the physical ability to retain memories at 3! But you are okay just delegating motherhood to a dog 🥴
We trained our dog to find the kids in the corn, like a game. They could find them anywhere on the farm, but i was always concerned about kids wandering into the corn fields.

I was doing a home visit very late in the day in late fall and noticed a puppy running underneath cars, wondering if someone would arrive to take him. After 30 minutes of waiting, I decided to take him with me. The dog and I finished the rest of our home visits together. My parents eventually kept him since I wasn't allowed to have an animal at my place. The dog is as happy as it can be and so am I.
Unfortunately, many children have abusive or narcissistic parents. Yes at some point, you will feel safer being surrounded with animals than your own parents.
I don't see how a mother & father could let it get to 7:30pm before checking on a three-year-old who had been out playing alone for what seems to have been quite a few hours. Thank goodness that Cooper the dog had better "parenting" skills than the little guy's human parents seem to have.
He was off to Mexico after the mother found his stash of cocaine. She threatened to go to the cops. He couldn't go back to jail. This was his third strike, they'd lock him up and throw away the key. Since she was his mother he couldn't bring himself to kill her so he did what needed to be done. He fled and didn't look back once. He knew his best friend would always seem him through no matter what, so he didn't care for what his new life on the run would bring. At this point the mother was waiting at home, horrified at what she had just done. She had driven her only son away. After a wait which seemed to go on forever, she frantically picked up the phone to report him missing. She had attempted to ring her son's mobile several times to apologize and tell him she wasn't going to police about the drugs - but all of the calls went unanswered by her now exhausted son. The police quickly caught up with him, and thinking it was the end, he fell to his knees. Police with drawn guns approached the boy as his dog looked to him. "You and me. We've been through some crazy shit together, haven't we?", said the dog. "If we go, we go out together." The dog now shielding the boy from the drawn weapons leaned in... .. and the two shared what might have been their final kiss together..... End of Chapter 4
ibetyoucanthack1123 well then that makes it fine because we all know there is nothing dangerous in North Dakota and dogs are quite capable of taking care of a child. That's why you see so many ads for dogs and babysitting.
The thing that bothers me most about this is that it sounds like she wasn't even periodically checking up on him. In some situations I feel like it would be okay to let a kid play outside alone for a bit, depending on location and the behavior/maturity of the kid. But it sort of makes me sad that she was just waiting for him to come in on his own and she didn't think to check on him until it was nearing dark.

hmmm.Even though its a farm you should always worry about your family members especially if its a child or an elder its hard to let anyone go without permission.
+James Storm Someone doesn't talk with many farmers. Farmers understate their emotions -- a lot. "A little worried" means he was sweating bullets and trying not to bite his last fingernail clean off.
+Bryan S. Two let's be sarcastic in live television because I want to tell people that I am tough and strong even though my child is missing and me and my wife had sex just to give birth to him and yep I am a little worried
Ive never had my own pet because of circumstances beyond my control even as an adult... But one day i would love to hv a dog like him.. Thank God the child is safe..
It doesn't matter if they live in the country or not, a 3 year old child needs constant supervision. I'm an extreme dog lover and have very intelligent dogs but I would NEVER leave them in charge of a 3 year old. This child was left unattended for hours if he was found a mile away. That's a very scary thought...
And that is why this country is a pussified as it is today. Our moms never knew where we were. One time when I was 7 we were caught in a big dust storm about 10 miles from home on our bicycles. My 3 friends all had tickets for driving without a license before they were 7 years old. We would hike out in the field several miles and camp, then hike back the next day. No one over 10 years old was ever around back in those days. I never knew anyone that even got hurt, except for maybe a scrape on the leg or arm or something.
@@brijac04 1st of all, you should learn comprehension because I did not say I had a ticket before I was 7, my 3 friends (they were all brothers and I don't mean black 🤣 ) had a ticket before they were 7. I've been driving since I was 5 and never had a ticket until I was 18. From the time I was 10-15 I went driving out on the dirt roads for 2-6 hours every Saturday with my friend Larry. The reason I lost you is because like I said, you and the rest of the country are pussified. I think about everyone in school was driving before they were 10 years old; I'm 57 now... this was back in the 1970's when people were real and didn't worry about hurting someone else's feelings. We had more of a brain at 7 than people do nowadays from 18-40.
+I Em Who I Iz Why Is the name a problem? You shouldn't Name your Username "I Em Who I Iz" but no one complains about that. Anyways Kate, Atleast your dog will be in a better place, I Had two Dogs Who had Past Away, One named Steel, second Named Tazz, Well Family member Dogs, but still treated them like my own. Reason for the names, My Aunt loved Steelers so thats why "Steel" was a choice, Tazz because He spins like the tazmanian devil from the cartoon, but I knew they would be in a better place.
Every kid should have a dog. I got my first dog, who she's no longer with us, when I was about two. Some family frinds had to move, but couldn't bring their dog with them, which is sad, but they gave her to us. My mom told me that while I was still in a crib, if I woke up crying, that she'd go get my mom or did if they didn't wake up. Her name was Loxie, and she was a Golden Shepard. She lived for 15 years, and she went from Texas to South Carolina, where we had to put her down. She kept going for us while we were moving, and she passed knowing we were safe and that she had been the greatest dog ever. I really miss her, it's been about 4 years now. Rest in peace, Loxie.
Something like this happened to me when I was 7 I was playing with my German Shepard in the back yard and I man in a truck came up to me and tried to grab me but my dog (keep in mind he was trained for this) bit his arm and the man started to bleed then I cried out for my dad and he came out and beat the shit out of the man and I was rushed inside by my mom who called the cops
Your dog and your parents should be given an award. Cooper should have full custody of Carson. These parents are horrible! They left their 3 year old son outside in the cold farmland for hours?! Then just expected him to come home himself?! wtf, some people are messed up! Thank Christ for Loyal intelligent pets huh? If Cooper hadn't been there, poor Carson would have frozen from hypothermia D:
I Don't Even Know Not just dogs, other animals show compassion and loyalty too. There was once a woman who brought in a stray cat, and years later he repaid her by waking her up so she could smell that the gas had been on for 5 HOURS!!!! He's been watching over her ever since :)
It is hard to believe that some guys don't like dogs --- enough that they beat the dog, or kill them. On the other side of the spectrum, this family saved this dog's life through adopting and welcoming it into the family, and gave him a home --- and the dog returned the favor. Aren't dogs awesome?!
TenouHaruka0 I think they felt so safe in their environment that they let their guard down. I'm not sure that they were as neglectful as this story implies.
I know this comment is 6 years ago, may never see. But obviously, you do not live out in the country. Kids can get away quick and far before you know it. It only takes a few minutes. Especially if you are on a working farm. Kids can go from month to month with never venturing far and you start trusting that to just one day they up and decide to go far. Had the same thing happen to me when my twins were about the same age. Thankfully they stuck to a trail and our dog started barking when they got too far.
They said they found him a mile away. I bet he was still 3 miles from the next human being. Please learn more about the country. You might actually enjoy living there.👍
@@jackdorseysdisappointedfather people aren't the only that can hurt a child. I could make a list of things that could hurt him out there, so just making excuses is a load of crap, they should have been watching him.
@@jackdorseysdisappointedfather I live out here on a farm, and have cousins down the road who have a girl who will be 3 this month. She's never, and I mean never, more than 75 feet from one of her parents when she's outside. There are 70-lb coywolves and 600-lb black bears in the area. Coywolves have attacked human children within 75 miles of here in the last 5 years, and a pair of them almost got one of my dogs a couple of years ago. Leaving a 3-yr-old kid unattended around here would be super negligent.
Dog was a better baby sitter than the mother. What if he had fell in a stream or someone kidnapped him? She's admitting to totally ignoring her child. Assuming the dog would be with him so he would be ok. She should be charged with child endangerment.
@@brendalg4 Maybe she went a little too far in the other extreme, but most kids these days are more harmed by being overprotected and not having any freedom to explore or ever be alone.
@@junbh2 hes 3. Your excuse is liable when the kid turns fucking 12+ 😂🤦♂️ you should never let your kids go outside alone for any amount of time unless its a fenced off backyard.
+ihategooglethynoltmehvlonguse uaregonnareplytomyuse That's for the same reason that every armchair general fights the next war. Woulda-coulda-shoulda is a mantra in America today.
+poppy thedogofwonders Used to be in America kids could wander away from home/parents and nobody got excited, nobody called 911. I myself was a wandering kid; one time at a very large beach in NY (Jones Beach) I wandered away from my parents there were tens of thousands of people on the beach that day and eventually a lifeguard found me and brought me to a lost and found area where my parents eventually came and got me. Nobody freaked out. It was a different America I guess.
+poppy thedogofwonders Probably because the dog saving a child is not surprising. Dogs are just cool like that ;) But the stupidity of mankind is always reaching new levels. Think about that...I'm surprised the dog was raised right o.o
Yeah ! I'm gonna do that ! Let the 3 year old go where he wants. If he is a mile or two or ten away it's fun AND if things do go wrong I will just call The Police and Fire Service as they have nothing better to do . Oh! and get another 200 worried people involved....laughable and I LOVE the countryside. BUT IT'S ALL ABOUT ME !!!!!
So many hazards that could have been deadly...even the big pot full of water was deep enough for the toddler to drown in, God forbid. Farm equipment...the barn...a wonderful place to raise a child, but child proof the child's environment, please. And I am not city folk.
She just left her 3 year old on his own and figured he’d come in whenever he was hungry. What the hell? So let me guess, no charges on the mom for neglect.
When I was 7, I walked a mile to the gas station in my pj's with a Barbie lunchbox with my birthday money in it to buy a candy bar. My dog Baby followed me the whole way there and back. She knew I wasn't supposed to be doing what I was doing and helped keep me safe. The intuition and protectiveness of dogs is truly amazing. And yes, in hindsight, I realize that what I did was incredibly dangerous, but to the logic of a 7 year old whose dad was at work and mom was in bed, it was an ingenious way to score some candy.
@@LMvdB02 I lived in a low income, high crime neighborhood on the edge of a small city. My family had an acre of land, but the street I walked down to get to that store was a more condensed area. I can think of a dozen ways that could have gone very wrong. Not my smartest move.
Some people seem to think playing outside at a farm is safer than in a neighborhood. I don't care where you live a three year old shouldn't be left outside alone for any amount of time. Even playing inside they should be checked on occasionally to make sure they're not doing something they shouldn't, drawing all over the walls with markers, or taking light bulbs out of a lamp. You never know what might look like fun to them and for some reason, and don't get all sexist on me, but for some reason boys tend to be drawn to the more dangerous things. All I can say is a family dog is a good idea if you don't want to watch them 24/7 because chances are the dog will.
I am at a loss those parents weren't charged. They seem like good people but they should have known better letting a toddler out of their sight inside or out.
Farms have different dangers. I knew a farm kid that lived near my grandparents, he got in the corn hopper when he was 4. You can't get out of one of those. He was killed.
Moki Me Look around the video, they live in a rural area, not another house in sight, the boy was outside playing & likely just wondered off, chasing a butterfly or something then got confused & didn’t know how to get back home... Sure no malice or intention to harm by the parents!
87TechReviews The point being you don't leave a 3 yr old that long without checking on him, period. She honestly said "I figured he'd get hungry sometime"? Pure laziness.
+Foxy The Pirate :D Sure the dog was watching him; watched him walk away from the house, down the road ... he probably would have watched him go for a swim in the lake, or get into the friendly man's car, or pet the nice snake...humm yep, the dog was watching him alright. Bad parenting skills that's what this is. No three year old child should ever be left alone.
This family is lucky they have such a wonderful dog. luckier still that it had a happy ending. I wonder if they got a visit from child protective services after this. Obviously they love their child but WTF?
You know what...?? I was raised in the country.... Open fields and dense woods. I was out with my dog all the time as a kid... I have similar stories of my dog helping my sister like that. One thing though we were not 4 years old. I was not allowed to go away from the house until I was like 6-7... Even then my mom would yell out to me once in awhile too and made sure I answered or came home then. THREE years old is WAY TO YOUNG to be running around outside away from home... I agree with the rest of the people. These parents are air heads !!
I have a 3 year old sibling and I truly can’t imagine leaving her outside to her own devices and waiting for her to come in on her own accord because she’s hungry. Even with my brother, when he was three. I just can’t imagine leaving a three year old unsupervised for a long period of time outdoors.
@H Yeah -Which apparently, they did Not do or we wouldn't be seeing this story. Agreed, children in rural areas tend to have a bit more freedom than our city kin, but that still doesn't mean you forget you have a kid in the first place. This could have Easily become a tragedy instead of a happy ending, dog or no. One of them should have at least checked on him more frequently than "welp, it's been an hour... guess he ain't hungry yet."
i was thinking the exact same thing Jewel,,,,,,why does she say " i knew something was wrong when he wouldnt come in" why didnt you go and see for yourself, oh lets say,,, about every ten minutes........asdjfsenerp urOROEJJSFSDFGSGRGRGRHDV
I thought this story was going to be heart-warming..... then I hear that the boy was 3!!!! and they didn't know for an hour!!!!! WTF???? he just didn't come inside??? WHAT?? I used to panic jut running into my house to check the water on the stove while my son played out back!! In a fenced in area! Your 'Parental Card' has been revoked!
If you didn't grow up out the city you wouldn't understand. I grew up with a house and farm on 50 acres. As a kid I'd be unaccompanied around that age.
My sister once ran away when she was very young. Their dog also stayed right with her the whole time. It's just what dogs sometimes do. To them you're the alpha which means that your child/puppy comes first in the pack. Still you can't always rely on an animal to save the day. But it does happen. Thank God.
Wow... Way to go parents. No, it is not okay for someone to EVER leave a three year old unattended no matter what the environment is. So what if only one car goes by every hours. The child is three, completely incapable of defending himself. Let's see, there's snakes, coyotes, holes, water sources, wells, small animal traps, kids on dirk bikes/atvs (not expecting a child to be in a field) cows, horse fields, pigs, rabied animals, loose aggressive animals... I mean come on the list in endless. Country or not, he needs supervision at all times.
How in the fukk do you lose track of a child that small?? How does he play outside unattended until 7:30, and you're like "I was worried because he didn't come home." Am I tripping? He's out on a farm with access to open wilderness which is how he ended up a MILE away. Hella far for a child that age. This is not a love story. This is an incident of neglect, with the parents being fortunate that their dog had more sense than they did to watch over the child.
Maybe it's just me, growing up around older brothers who were MP's and civilian LEOs, I've heard all the horror stories that don't make it into the papers, the ones that really bothered my brothers. I NEVER allow my child to be unattended. All it takes is a few minutes, and you could have a lifetime of regrets. They say "diamonds are a girl's best friends," and "dogs are mans best friend." I'll take a good dog over a diamond any day!
people don't understand... in the country you can leave your kids unattended playing in the dirt because one car goes by your house every two hours. But she should of checked up on him, you shouldn't expect your kids to come to you just because they are hungry. She should of checked up on him, but we all make mistakes, and I doubt she will make a mistake like this ever again.
87TechReviews UM OK from the country.... and no... you don't just let a three year old play in the dirt without even being in a room with a window that looks out over them just to make sure they're not making poor decisions even.... It's not just the area being safe its aout your child making good decisions... this woman literally had not had an eye on him for HOURS........

I don't see how a mother & father could let it get to 7:30pm before checking on a three-year-old who had been out playing alone for what seems to have been quite a few hours. Thank goodness that Cooper the dog had better "parenting" skills than the little guy's human parents seem to have.
It would take a fair bit of time for a 3 year old to travel a mile.
Uhm... how the hell did the kid end up a mile away in the first place?

"If we go, we go out together."
The dog now shielding the boy from the drawn weapons leaned in...
.. and the two shared what might have been their final kiss together.....

ibetyoucanthack1123 well then that makes it fine because we all know there is nothing dangerous in North Dakota and dogs are quite capable of taking care of a child.

Thank God he’s ok. What a good dog too.

Rest in Peace, Loxie
+Hans Yolo AWW, please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of dear sweet Loxie :-(
Something like this happened to me when I was 7 I was playing with my German Shepard in the back yard and I man in a truck came up to me and tried to grab me but my dog (keep in mind he was trained for this) bit his arm and the man started to bleed then I cried out for my dad and he came out and beat the shit out of the man and I was rushed inside by my mom who called the cops
Lisbeth Peralta Trained or not trained, a dog is a loyal companion
I Don't Even Know Not just dogs, other animals show compassion and loyalty too. There was once a woman who brought in a stray cat, and years later he repaid her by waking her up so she could smell that the gas had been on for 5 HOURS!!!! He's been watching over her ever since :)

+Maggie Waden - Exactly. So there really was nothing to worry about. Carry on everybody...nothing to see here. :)

figured the baby would come in when he was hungry? the dog is the only parent the poor kid has.
It is hard to believe that some guys don't like dogs --- enough that they beat the dog, or kill them.
On the other side of the spectrum, this family saved this dog's life through adopting and welcoming it into the family, and gave him a home --- and the dog returned the favor. Aren't dogs awesome?!
watch your kid better even on a farm
Let the dog have custody of the kid. He'll be much safer 😃

Ernie Rodoli My thoughts exactly!!!
Shame on the parents, how do you leave your three years old child unattended? Smh. Respect to that dog.

She's never, and I mean never, more than 75 feet from one of her parents when she's outside. There are 70-lb coywolves and 600-lb black bears in the area. Coywolves have attacked human children within 75 miles of here in the last 5 years, and a pair of them almost got one of my dogs a couple of years ago. Leaving a 3-yr-old kid unattended around here would be super negligent.
Great dog,

Dog was a better baby sitter than the mother. What if he had fell in a stream or someone kidnapped him? She's admitting to totally ignoring her child. Assuming the dog would be with him so he would be ok. She should be charged with child endangerment.

A 7 year old should be able to go to a neighbourhood store alone right? Not in a city but in a small town..
All I can say is a family dog is a good idea if you don't want to watch them 24/7 because chances are the dog will.
well done Cooper... mom & dad didn't really look bothered! meat dinners 4 u boy !!!!!! Parents of the year lmao. Happy the boy is safe!!
I am at a loss those parents weren't charged. They seem like good people but they should have known better letting a toddler out of their sight inside or out.
They live on a farm, it's not like they live in a big city where there are people all over who can harm him.
Who said anything about people harming him I was going with him harming himself, he's 3. No child that age should ever be left unsupervised, anywhere!
Farms have different dangers. I knew a farm kid that lived near my grandparents, he got in the corn hopper when he was 4. You can't get out of one of those. He was killed.

My thoughts EXACTLY!
I agree with you!! My daughter is five and she can’t even go outside unattended!!
Some women should NOT breed really! they do''t know how to be parents ! my child is missing for a second I will revolving the entire world !
