The "Knee Drop" and the" Burlesque Bump" are definitely a great Assistance exercise for the Olympic Weightlifter. I have utilised the Knee Drop exercise to work my Quadriceps ; also making a mental and physical efforts to keep feet on floor to enforce a Ankle Dorsiflexion exercise , which does work on calf flexibility and working the "Soleus" muscle of the Calf muscles.
Yes, I use this as a warmup before every session. It's great for developing the patella tendon strength, and also stretches out the quad before training so it puts less strain on the myotendinous junction.
Same. If I were to make this video again, I’d use a full size 4X4. The activation is even better. Some of the guys that trained at Vince’s said he had them do sissy’s most often on a 3-4 inch board. NOT a 2X4. You live and learn, though. Glad you liked it! I think it’s probably my best, most well put together video so far.
All of Vince's students had very well developed and proportionate legs. You must remember, to Vince it was not about building the biggest body, it was about building a body that was symmetrical and proportionate. Creating a physique inline with the "Grecian Ideal". "Size without shape is grotesque"- Vince Gironda
@@60kgofpower68 regular squats are a powerlifting movement, which develop a bulky upper thigh and a big ass. They also don't develop the rectus femoris quad muscle.
Ill pass. Regular squats for me. Remeber only hitting quads and not doing hamstrings will give you an imbalance that will give you knee problems. Maybe not now but it will happen. Just saying. You do you I guess
I thought I was pretty conditioned doing leg exercises well, until I tried this, I did it without weights to get the movement down and my legs were sore for days which let me know this was an effective exercise I should be doing, I also do hamstring movements for today's well balanced look but an excellent exercise non the less! 👍
I do these after squats. In my notes, often I just write ‘ridiculous’, because I can usually only manage two full flush reps with just body weight. The lactic acid burn is crazy, but it’s quite good to leave the session on slightly wobbly legs. I find they hit the core nicely too.
@@ForgottenFitness I saw this guy grinding out insane sissies. I think he doesn’t call them ridiculous anymore. One day… ua-cam.com/video/tIyFg8775g0/v-deo.htmlsi=c36iUUUAv-jrfNnJ
One thing to note...we have to do hundreds of squats to get a feeling of one set of sissy squats....yet we opt to widen our ass with loads of squats and not the gironda way 😮
All you need is sissy squats and nordic curls but you have to go full range of motion you're just doing quarter reps. And YES nordic curls work the calves. Not the entire calf but you can combine them with calf raises. They also work hamstrings idk why i would want to work hamstrings even for injury prevention and athleticism. Theyll make you a heavier man
This particular variation is depicted in Vince Gironda’s Sissy Squat manual and in Unleashing The Wild Physique. Please read those pieces of text for more clarification on form. Thanks!
Thanks for the demonstration, I will be doing them in front of a mirror until my form is perfect. I tried without weight and it felt incredible for the quads.
Keep the weight relatively light and your form solid! Also, try not to cheat the movement. If you find using weight too difficult, you can also just do the movement with your bodyweight to start off.
I bought the Gironda pamphlet when I was a kid in the early 80’s with the sissy squat instructions you should master it first without weights so your not rounding your back you can also use a single plate held across your chest . Your technique is very choppy should look more flowing
I too own the Gironda pamphlet. In fact, I own all of Gironda’s material. Of course my movements are choppy. How else would I teach it without explaining each individual part of the movement. Your opinion is your opinion and I will not argue with you. Thanks for the comment!
The way your teaching it looks like 3 sets of 5 it is 1 set of 15 with all of those movements flowing you did the knee drop and put down the weights the the burlesque bump then put down the weight then the flush out it’s all one set with constant tension

Try these on a hack squat machine. Crazy Vastus Medialis pump. No weight needed
A wonderful variation!
A really great video! I have been using a board for squats for a while as it seems the only way I can hit my quads good.

@@ForgottenFitness I think these demonstrations are invaluable. A lot of the old exercises are hard to do correctly from description alone.
That is one weird looking exercise! 🤣😂🏋️😆🏋️
It may look strange, but man does it feel good!
Great exercise also.
show me anyone who built good legs with this ...

@@ForgottenFitness so how will regular squats that u can comfortably load not achieve what sissies can?
How about Platz?? He did them on the hack squat machine.

Platz among many silver era bodybuilders. Arnold also did these pretty early in his development, especially when he was working out at Vince's gym.

This channel and all exercises demonstrated are made for educational purposes.
I still do this exercise I learned it from Monte Woolford back in the 70s
That’s awesome to hear!
I was doing the sissy wrong all these years 😅
No worries. Most have been! Give these a try and I am sure you will love them.
@@ForgottenFitness yeh man
There's more than one way. I personally just do the knee drop to the floor, and keep tension on the rectus femoris quad muscle .

If you neglect your hamstrings the strength of your quads will rip off your knee cap.
Grear video I'm trying to find out if on vinces workout routines dose he go to failure
Great channel Rudolf keep growing 💪 👌👌
Thank you! Much more to come!
Thank you; in many youtube channels they demonstrate the wrong way to perform Gironda's sissy squat.
Very true. Glad you enjoyed it!
