- Close to 10,000 German refugees are estimated to have died in the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff in 1945. The ship was torpedoed by a Soviet U-Boat in freezing conditions meaning only around 400 people survived and the wreck was almost perfectly preserved.

It always amazed me how something as small as a U-Boat could not only carry the weapons and ammunition to fight, but also enough fuel, food and fresh water for 40 -50+ men. Yet they still crossed oceans in them, nothing short of incredible when you consider the technology they had then.
"There are 50,000 wrecks in the Baltic Sea"
Holy fucking shit..
There's something like 3 million worldwide, we have trashed the ocean
@@manbearpig2164 True, but only a tenth of them are still fully visible, the rest have returned to the sand or are quickly on their way to doing so. Plus, a lot of them are creating new ecosystems, where there wasn’t any before, so there’s that.
Very informative, did not realize so many shipwrecks in the Baltic Sea. Would be an informative documentary about the Gustov (?) and U boat sinking. Perhaps a one sentence mention going to school learning about WWII? Honestly, can not remember. Should be more information provided as a reminder of all lives lost during that horrendous war. Appreciate what was learned here, today. Sad, the camera from America never arrived. Successful anyway. 👍👍
Very interesting. Thank you. Nicely done.
There is another U-Boat on display in Chicago, IL USA
Not much here about the Gustloff.
Never is,Seem's like all these documentaries are nothing short of travel guides?Tourist bullshit, not history.
Exactly...wth? They put the Wilhelm Gustloff as the cover photo for the video and then it turns into the same video that I've already seen 300,000 times because it's hidden among videos for other ships.
It is the hunt for U-479 so....
Should of planned ahead to get your equipment
I took a deep dive into this disaster out of fascination, the shocking thing was that there were probably more than 10,000 on board
The most shocking and heinous aspect of the Gustloff sinking is the fact that so many have never even heard of it.
@@ryanparker4996 Indeed, I think if it was an Allied boat it would have been a famous disaster
Very interesting and I have really enjoyed watching. Thanks
Was there a u-boat in there somewhere and I missed it or is this part one of more videos? That was an interesting tour of your countryside and friends.
These people couldn't even find a working camera case nevermind a missing shipwreck. Waste of viewing time.
Oh God bless those victims of the horrible sinking of the ⛴️ rest in peace 🙏 🪦.
...someone forgot to mention that elite divisions and Waffen SS were aboard the ship...many civilians too (but most of them were hard National Socialist Party supporters who were given land in the "sanitized" ost territories conquered to the soviets!
Wasn't that a legitimate target for the soviet sub S13 captained by S Romanesko?
So I spent almost an hour to hear people complain about equipment not arriving and basically on vaca. So little about the actual wreck
Luckily.. Till next time
I am getting frustrated and tired of these "Find the Wreck" videos. So much liken to the 'excitement' of the "Al Capone Vaults" let down. A quick video padded out to fill time of a real TV Show complete with space for commercial insertion... So many maritime "Grave" No diving sites, Yet Egypt and other sites are freely grave robbed. Disgusting.
Who's robbing graves in Egypt now??
@@packrat76 Yes to a much smaller extent, as counterfeiting is replacing artifacts. It is much easier to make a faux artifact, than to hunt for untouched graves.
😅& yet your watching 👀 knowone is making you watch. Very interesting to learn about other than the Titanic lives lost that's a stunning fact that will shut up about Titanic now.

You call it historys worst maritime disaster. But im an optimist and call it historys greatest multi-kill.
