I'd go farther. Eliminate ALL federal law enforcement powers. If they need law enforcement powers for an aspect of their duties, then they can ask for a local sheriff department for assistance.
There is STILL (unfortunately) a need to deal with crimes that go beyond state lines, but THAT should be the ONLY thing ANY of these FEDERAL agencies should be ALLOWED to deal with...

They can simply approach the locals in the other region, and you can grant them temporary detainment powers on a fugitive that has already been detained by local law enforcement. I really can't think of any situation that requires feds to have law enforcement powers that cannot be accomplished by them being forced to ask for sheriff assistance.

That's why unless there is specific authority (and added insurance), one state will not pursue a fleeing vehicle into another state.
JURISDICTIONS are serious, and without SPECIAL authority arresting someone outside of the jurisdiction where the crime took place could mean that the criminal will GET OFF!! That's why an agency with FEDERAL (US WIDE) jurisdiction is at times necessary.
The FBI was originally formed for gangs like Bonnie & Clyde (but mostly bootleggers) who would commit crimes in one state and flee to a different one. Bank robbery at the time was NOT a Federal crime and LE agencies in a different state had NO JURISDICTION to arrest them unless they ALSO committed a crime in THAT state. So the FBI was formed so they COULD arrest them anywhere in the US *_ON A FEDERAL CHARGE_* which robbing banks became. (along with transporting drugs, and transporting kidnap victims, drugs etc across state lines)..

Every time I watch something with house representative Hank Johnson speaking, he just sounds like someone who goes through the motions of speech and always says the same thing while starting at a different spot in his canned type speech. The only thing he ever said that is remembered by anyone is that he thought the island of Guam would tip over and capsize if too many people were living on one side of the island !! That is almost above belief and at first I thought he was joking. When most present laughed, he remained serious until one person kindly said "let's move on". However, Democrats have been demanding the De-Funding of Police departments since May 2020! Since January 2021, Democrat Prosecutors are refusing to even prosecute criminals who have broken the LAW! So Democrats who sit there & attempt to lie about what they've been doing for the last 3yrs are crazy if they think American citizens won't remember everything they've done when voting in 2024!! Prosecutors true do recommend certain time frames to a Judge for certain crimes, according to the crimes code which sets out which crimes justify which sentences. But its still the Judge who uses his or her discretion, to sentence somebody to a jail term. And true they recommend sentences again for plea deals, but again a Judge has the power to reject said deal, recommend that prosecutors rework the deal, or throw it out and impose a sentence that is consistent with existing laws. Its more complicated than just saying its Prosecutors fault. That us why its called the system. They work together. Likewise if a DA refuses to prosecute a serious crime the State Attorney General can step in and take the case over. A Judge can within their authority order a DA to bring a charge if the case is serious enough. What you are referring to where they don't prosecute crimes, include retail theft which has always been considered a petty crime. I remember when President Clinton introduced a three strikes law and it upset the community so bad, the same community that was hollering about we need Law and Order, but it turned out to be like dropping an hammer 🔨 on the heads of people. We always cry about who didn't do what, or who did too much about crime. Really if you choose to vote in 2024 based on what you are referring to that's fine, that's what makes America great, you get to vote issues. Just remember Republicans give you lip service and do nothing. The most recent example is their border bill. I looked it up it does nothing to actually secure the border, it's just double talk. Anyway Dems will do what they do, Republicans will do what they do, and we will just see a bitch session from Republicans and nothing more. On the issue of defunding the Police,that is a term that is misleading. It was designed to take funding that Police use and transfer it along with certain duties like responding to crisis situations, and cats in trees, and loud music, and giving those duties to civilians, thereby freeing Police to respond to actual crime. But of course it got twisted. Meanwhile Republicans did their own defunding by killing the bill that would have replaced over 50,000 IRS Agents who would have gone after their rich friends.We can go back and forth all day about this, but the reality is we get bamboozled all the time by Republicans lies. We should pass a law requiring every public school in the United States to require gun a safety course in junior high school, and again in high school, and make it a requirement to graduate.

Whenever I hear some of these Democrat politicians speak, it always reminds me of the closing lyrics from the end of the Pink Floyd song “Time”. “…and hear the softly spoken magic spell.” So often they speak in terms of making the public safe by yielding the flow of guns going on the street. Yet when you interject the whole concept of how many illegal guns and drugs are just free flowing across our southern border, suddenly they get amnesia about the priority of protecting that border and launch into some diatribe about how to completely thwart the protections of the Second Amendment with unproductive and blatantly unconstitutional actions that completely avoid addressing the issues of mental health. Why don't they just write a law that forbids shooting police. Why are they trying to write a law you can't shoot police with "high-power, armor piercing bullets" like other kinds of bullets are ok then.
This is of course sarcasm and not a real questions. The left thinks writing a law solves everything. Shooting police officer is already prohibited in law. But does that stop the shootings, of course not. So... I'm not even going to ask how more law would change the situation, because it doesn't.
But that's not even the point. The point is collecting guns from common people, so that only the government and criminals has weapons. And what happens after commoners has no weapons. Well, there's a lot of history about that, especially in socialist states.
The amount of sophistry from these politicians is prison worthy. No probation and send their family with them.
