@@patpat8727 I think the more definitive point of speculation is the fact that there's not gonna be much reason to follow the contest for the yellow jersey after tomorrow.
@@ktakashismith Agree, Pog is better than the remainder of the GC contenders so far, unless someone's hiding a bit of talent. He's also much more fresh than the rest of them, since he's had no crashes and has been sitting in the peloton the entire time. His team has also had less panic and issues overall. Jumbo Visma would need to pull a breakaway containing their team and an isolated Pog to put Vingegaard and Roglic back in the GC contest. I guess it could happen?
@@patpat8727 It's a 21 stage race consisting of roughly 100 miles per stage on average with some massive climbs. Nice to see Nairo up there at the finish. I’d like to see EF take the jersey but I can’t see Pog relinquishing it. He can just sit on the wheels tomorrow and wait for the attacks to come knowing full well he can follow the lot of them. Also feels a bit early for the teams to play their cards - after a couple of tough days I wonder if tomorrow will be less of a GC battle and more one for the breakaway?
Proud for what, that he's riding like a fool, wasting his talent? Whatever Merckx whispered in his ear this morning was not sound advice, that was some idiotic egotistical crap from Wout today.
I don't understand why the other GC teams weren't making UAE pull the entire time. EF I can understand because they had a chance at Yellow, but why were INEOS and Alpecin chasing??
@@patrickbateman7444 I dont necessarily think Jumbo Visma has enemies, but I do think UAE has some good friends. It seems like a lot of riders are helping UAE with pacing
@@patrickbateman7444 There was a interview with Schachmann on German television. He told that TJV and Roglic were driving dangerously by pushing, shoving and doing everything to keep themselfs in front of the peleton. Making for problems and crashes. He also said TJV should have more respect and dont ride like (something like) lunatics.
With Pogacar looking so good and already having the advantage he does, teams are going to have to attack early in the high mountains. My worry with that though is the other teams that already seem to via-ing for the podium places (e.g. Bora). Let's say INEOS send Martinez up the road or Jumbo Roglic, since he's already lost chunk of time, on an early attack, even if UAE riders are being dropped like they were today, I just have a feeling teams like Bora and Movistar are just going to chase it back for Pogacar so they can get their guy on the podium so they will still come in together to the final climb where Pogacar will torch everyone but their guy can maybe finish best of the rest
If Kuss and Kruijswijk are in good shape, I can see them drop most if not all domestiques, the question is whether other GC leaders will bluf enough and put the pressure to respond to attacks on Pogacar, or will they just immediately chase themselves just thinking of 2nd and 3rd place.
Good point. Teams might throw the towel for the victory but won’t stop at anything for podium spots which could benefit Pogacar. Not that he needs any help. But let’s wait and see ourselves. Last year Pogacar wasnt invincible in the mountains and Jumbo Visma can always play Roglic as a dark horse and keep Vingegaard (?) by Pogacar’s side
Yeah! It is indeed a possibility … We saw this barely yesterday when Betiol was pushing forward for Pogacar when he already had a guy from his team (EF) on the Breakaway… So.. Let’s just see! I still think that the TJV will come back stronger in the next stages .. I’m not buying Pogacar team in the climbs ahead! That’s the problem! I can see much pain ahead for Pogacar! For the good of cycling !!! Cross fingers !!!🤞🏾
Exactly. If you still want something out of this Tour you have to (team)attack on the first or second big climb of the day and not wait for the final one. Teams like Movistar are terrible for the sport, just hanging around hoping to get an anonymous rider like Mas on the podium. No flair no style, just sitting there and being content with not winning anything. Disgusting

Every sport needs an ambassador like you! It's short, easy to digest, funny in places (super important to have some humour) and you ooze depth of knowledge of the subject. Bravo dude. This is top notch stuff
No, because he needs a team with riders that won't abandon him like WvA abandoned Jonas on stage 5. Pog is a beast but he also has a whole team working for only him
Imagine Pog with Ineos Grenadiers, they would kill his unpredictability and explosiveness. He is on new level so he can play out race like he wants. Riders like him, WvA or MvdP make cycling evolve around them.
Nairo takes three minutes on each stage in the high altitude, long duration alpine mountains, holds on for the next week and a half, wins the 2022 tour. You heard it here first
I must admit I expected Roglic to abandon before todays stage but props to him for hinging in there. WVA is a monster, but when the tank is empty the tank is empty -- not the smartest tactic but I'll not fault someone for trying!
Tadej was barely able to speak English when he came into the scene.... what a stark contract... amazing talent, he left everyone in the dust in the last few meters.
Thought for sure you would mention McNulty going HAM up that final climb. Was drilling it for a long time and prevented moves. He was throwing down massive power
Unfortunately, the GC suspense is over for me; I have a similar feeling to last year after Stage 8. There's no real competition left for Pogacar at this race, as Jumbo really needed to exploit the 1-2 tactic of Roglic/Vingegaard, but Roglic is no longer going to be a real threat on ~2:30.
I think vingegaard might surprise. Remember last year when he dropped pogacar on the ventoux when it was very hot. I think high temperature is pogi’s only weakness
I partly agree, but we have to keep in mind that last year the favourites already crashed on Stage 2&3 and the teams lost important drivers for the mountain stages like Robert Gesink for TJV. I think it could really stay interesting this year cause the teams are better stacked until now.
@@trobberkah3425 I think it's entirely possible where there will be a stage where Pogacar loses ~40 seconds to someone; Vingegaard is a potential person to do this. But I think he will have such a large buffer by then that it doesn't matter. It will take a very concerted effort --- and possibly even collaboration --- from a number of teams to really put a dent in Pogacar, given he probably has the best W/kg in the race.
@@abba6017 I get what you're saying. But given that Pogacar probably has the best W/kg in the race, you need to put time into him by playing him tactically with two very strong riders; I don't think Jumbo has this anymore, and I don't see any other team with multiple leaders who would be able to do this.
@@PhysyCola Today before the last 4k I thought maybe Ineos will be able to do it and help TJV aswell as EF or Bora. But I totally agree with you- in the end it is just kind a hope that we dont see the race for P2 and P3 like last year after the first week, that was boring af in the look back.
I can't understand the thinking behind sending Wout van Aert in the breakaway. The team said they wanted a rest day and not control the whole race, but this turned out pretty bad for Wout. Anyway, he was going to lose the yellow jersey today anyway, so in the end it doesn't really matter. What a performance from Pogacar. The man seems on track to win the tour again. Let's see what the alps will show us about his form! Exciting tour so far! Great video as always man! Thanks!
It might have to do with the fact that, when one of your own (especially the Yellow Jersey) is riding ahead of the peloton, your own team doesn't have to chase. Jumbo-Visma didn't have to do any work for the peloton at large as a result of Wout doing all the work (while UAE had to). That might be a/the reason, but who knows... How it will work out overall we'll have to see in the next few days.
I am wondering if King Eddy was admonishing him during that talk before the stage start to be AGGRESSIVE when in yellow, and NOT to just sit there and defend it, as is usual/expected. Of course it did not work out for him, but this dude is a monster. IF he could somehow find the REPEATABLE/consistent, out of category, tallest col top finish capabilities, he would be even greater than Merckx (since he already has equal TT skills, and is a better sprinter than Eddy could ever dream of being). (Yup, I'd love to see him attempt an hour record as well, somewhere along the line.)
on italian tv (rai), i think the jumbo ds said that they sent Wout so that other teams had to chase him otherwise they (jumbo)should have paced al day... like in this way they rested...
Jumbo Visma explaining their tactics today: get Wout in the break so they don't have to chase all day, idea wasn't bad but the execution was: the final break was too small & jumbo should have let the break with Laporte go, he probably was the strongest there anyways.
And that is why Pogacar will beat them again. His tactical nous for such a young rider is on another level. The fact that he freelances so much makes it harder for other teams to try and scheme a plan to beat him. IMO for TJV to beat him the will have to 1,2, or even 3 him in the mountains.
@@davidd1492 won’t help for JV to even have 8 of them against Pog in mountains. Uphill he will follow the lead and downhill either and you can’t stop him to do. And 200m before finish will sprint and win. It cant be done a lot against man with better leg
Man Jumbo Visma all clumsy and uncoordinated tripping over themselves when they were stacked. Pressing, stressing, and now depressing each other out. They needed to just ride within themselves and let the race come to them naturally instead of pressing
Alpecin DS: we have nothing to gain, let's go out front and pull. If anyone asks... we are trying to get camera time for our sponsors. Here is a crazy idea... let UAE and Jumo fight it out and then we stay close and hope to capitalize on it. Ineos appears to be taking that approach
Wout is a genius. The high pace the peloton had to ride because of his break burned all the sprinters, therefore the sprint points at the end of the stage were won by riders not interested in green jersey.
JV are racing this TdF like it’s a one week stage race. Going this aggressively this early is going to cost them later. It is very entertaining to watch but pretty odd from a tactics perspective. (Especially from WVA)
Pogacar made that finish look easy. I never had an issue with how Froome and Sky won but it’s so fun watching Pogacar race. He’s very opportunistic and isn’t afraid to go off script if it will net him a win or take extra time.

Roglic got tenacity, still has the power to attack and jump at the finish. Sadly, pogacar is on another level. But never say never, Im still hoping for a competitive mountain stages with pog, rog and vingegard.
Seems that Jumbo's best chance now is hoping one of their daily crashes take out one of the favorites, like they did Vlasov today. They can't be popular within the peloton, they're all a hazard to sit behind.
I am an Ineos guy and always will be. But I love the way Tadej Pogacar races. I hope that Jumbo use both Roglic and Vinegaard and that Ineos use all 4 riders in Thomas, Yates, Martinez snd Pidcock as launching pads for each other, since UAE is not that strong. I feel that is the only way to weaken Tadej is to attack with one counter and so on for 3-5 km straight. Ineos having 4 guys all together in time makes that alot easier to do I think. 🤷♂️
If ineos attack, EF, bora n maybe some other GC teams like FDJ or arkea will respond as they need to protect powless, vlasov n their GC rider position. In the end, pogi will benefit from all of this
I like inoes too But Ineos should focus only on Stage wins I don't think Thomas has what it takes to beat pogacar , Yates is bad at TT , their only hope is Martinez for GC, but he will be a domestique to Thomas i think.
Alpecin for Philippsen. You may argue against that, but on the Saturday's stage they did the same thing, which means they believed Philippsen had a chance.
LR love your content but I think you're underplaying that sprint from Pogacar. Was a thermoatomic launch and even when the other guys were at full sprint they weren't making any ground
IDC if pog holds yellow for the rest of the tour, I just want to see MVDP attack and breakaway at least on one stage... (Insert c'mon do something stick poke meme)
Wout van aert colored the whole tour de france. I never EVER saw a yellow jersey so actif and attacking in the peleton NEVER !!! he gived the tour of 2022 so much extra. And he did so much for vingegaard. He brought Vingegaard several times back to the front of the race... BTW I like every attacking rider like pogacar, remco and Van der poel.
Again, questionable tactics by Jumbo Visma. I mean, Van Aert probably enjoyed himself today, but he also missed a big opportunity for another stage win, had he not gone in the breakaway all day.
It takes a mighty narrow chain in order to fit 12 cogs in the back nowadays. Almost surprised that the top, pure sprinters are not breaking them on their final snap jump to the line. ;)
@@PeterKrauss1963 It seems so (the snapping part at least) if not the jamming problem. :( Majka's Campy Record chain snapped a couple of days ago while on a climb helping out his team leader (Po)'Gotcha'. He is the antithesis of a big, heavy, sprinter type. ;) The resultant muscle tear from that chain snapping took him out of the Tour, and did hurt his leader's chances.
So many comments with QQ about Jumbo's failing tactics, guess having only one rider expend any real effort during the entire longest stage in the tour while having the yellow in the team is a bad thing... Yeah, really.
Well if that was the point send an expendable like Laporte rather than a key almost-leader who also has a chance to win the stage if he stays in the peloton.
@@clementdenis4212 No. Because a> controlling the race so WvA can win from the bunch takes the entire team b> Laporte is a breakaway the size WvA had hoped for doesn't have the same chances for success. My take: WvA tomorrow get's a day off in the final climbs. He'll not even try to stay in the front of the race, he'll conserve as much as possible because he has nothing to gain tomorrow. So in the end, even energy wise it's not that bad a deal, WvA sure can help in the mountain stage part but Kruiswijk and Laporte can do that as well they shown this year already especially Kruiswijk. They won't use WvA tomorrow.
@Marvin Westmaas a) just chill while the other teams are chasing your breakaway guy and crank it up if needed in the last 10km. b) WvA had no chances to win in a 3 man breakaway with GC hopeful Vlasov and is delusional if he thinks he did. The peloton would never have let this breakaway go to the end, you just can't give a guy like Vlasov one minute for free. And you can not give too much time to WvA either : he is not really a GC threat but with a 3 minute buffer he would be c) Consequentially Laporte or even better Benoot would have had a much better chance to win from the breakaway because they would've had a much better chance to get to the end with the breakaway. Oh and d) if the goal is to avoid having to work just screen the breakaway until there are no dangerous guy in it and let them take 20 minutes. Now the other teams will work if they want the stage.
@@MarvinWestmaas So basically, sacrifice your yellow jersey for your "GC" "contenders", clearly neither of whom has raced as well so far as WVA who has raced better than everyone in the race. Dumbest thing I ever heard.
@LR - awesome coverage as always. Thoughts.. does Roglic on Ineos beat Pog on UAE? (Stronger positioning options, sole leadership, GC focused support) What do you think ?
The other teams have to make UAE do something. Pogacar keeps getting to wheel surf and he basically doesn’t even need a team because tactically he doesn’t need to do anything. When the time comes and he’s fresh, of course he will winn
is powless a good sprinter? man if he was holding back i think he'll regret it if this is the closest he ever gets to a yellow jersey, even if only for a day. if he had even finished second he would've won yellow by 2s.
JumboVisma didn't need to control anything, because Van Aert was in front. Also, Wout took some more points for his green jersey. In addition, they 'pushed' Pogacar into the yellow, which means after every stage Pogacar needs to wait on the yellow and white jersey while Vingegaard and Roglic will have their massage, get some food and some additional rest. Zoetemelk once said 'you win the Tour in bed'.
Wout is like the old Flandriens. How many hours the Jumbo logo was on your screens last week? Arkea, AG2R, where were all these riders showing up for their sponsors?
Crazy me who thought winning a stage was better exposure than sweating in a hopeless breakaway. Arkea is working for Quintana. AG2R is working for O'Connor and also had chances for the stage win with Cosnefroy .
Does anyone know what happened to Sepp Kuss? Did he loose time on purpose to be allowed to go up the road in a future stage (seem unlikely since he has duties to cater to Vingegaard & Roglic)?
Sadly, uae in a driving seat as they have other team ambition that will help them. For example, if ineos attack, EF n bora will respond as they need to protect powless n vlasov position. Pog?? Just follow all of them

Tony Martin training for world ITT in vuelta one year took off at start 160-180 k's and mainatained until sprint finsish he lost brutal :) He immediately asked who pushed peloton Fabian ? lol because that was when he Bradley and Fabian would trade off depending on course style.
This would be a cool state, surely with some image reading algorithm going through all the footage from each TV camera it could be produced.
I don’t think I’ve seen a first week in the Tour raced this hard ever. The sheer pace, the frantic fighting for the break for basically half the stage, the Roubaix stage raced with 48kph average speed. These guys must be completely toasted before they even get to the first proper climb.
Everyone is roasted except for one impossibly spritely Slovenian... Glad you've enjoyed the Tour so far, because it's gonna end tomorrow.
@@ktakashismith so what you're saying is he's doping
Good to see this up now, nearly cracked and watched GCN 😬
GCN is what I watch if I know I'm gonna go online and get the results spoilt.

He also said TJV should have more respect and dont ride like (something like) lunatics.
Pogacar sporting his iconic signature: Hair Sprout through the Helmet
@@riquelmeone and btw, Pog “is just “ ahead of Vingergard by 31 seconds! 🤣🤣🤣🫤🫤
Disgusting
Biggest green jersey threat for Van Aert is Pogi. He has to up his game and take an extra jersey this year
Imagine the walk of shame for JUMBO, and I think Pog is closing up on green too. If he gave half a mind to it, he could probably win green also.

Much appreciated to have the video a bit earlier
Love these quick recaps... keep em coming LR
Yes one of the Australian commentators mentioned this during the stage, Wout went out so rest of team didn't have to pace at the front of the peloton.
Jumbo Visma explaining their tactics today: get Wout in the break so they don't have to chase all day, idea wasn't bad but the execution was: the final break was too small & jumbo should have let the break with Laporte go, he probably was the strongest there anyways.
The idea is nonsense.
Why they would need to chase anybody whole day?
UAE is main contender for yellow
But if that was the tactic, why on earth did WVA chase down the break of 9 with Mads Pederson and Christophe LaPorte? 🤷

Man Jumbo Visma all clumsy and uncoordinated tripping over themselves when they were stacked. Pressing, stressing, and now depressing each other out. They needed to just ride within themselves and let the race come to them naturally instead of pressing
They had to wrestle that jersey, away, to reckon with the Swan, not given up on his pond that easy. Still green, and one of his men on third base
Cobbles was good, now the tour is heating up baby
Great content. Thanks!
As an American, I really wanted to see Powless in yellow for a stage. Oh well.
Another year gone for EF...some day...some fucking day
IF it weren't for the time bonuses which 'GOTCHA' always sprints for now, he would have been. :(
Alpecin DS: we have nothing to gain, let's go out front and pull. If anyone asks... we are trying to get camera time for our sponsors. Here is a crazy idea... let UAE and Jumo fight it out and then we stay close and hope to capitalize on it. Ineos appears to be taking that approach
As other have said they were actually working for Philipsen.
(Especially from WVA)
this did not age well
Quintana is looking great. Everything will probably evaporate in the last time trial but I hope he lights it up in the high mountains.

EF, Bora and Alpecin worked for free for Pogacar 🙄as how the hell they was thinking of beating Pogacar 😂
It kinda looked like Wout was trying to do Eddy Merckx... Attack in the beginning of the stage to carry that to the finish line...
He did ride someone off of his wheel, kind of like King Eddy used to do back in the day. ;)

Don’t know how you keep it so concise, are you sure you can pad it out another 5min I don’t think anyone would mind.
Pogacar made that finish look easy. I never had an issue with how Froome and Sky won but it’s so fun watching Pogacar race. He’s very opportunistic and isn’t afraid to go off script if it will net him a win or take extra time.

Hard to see anybody else than Pogacar winning Planche des Belles Filles with the SUPER steep gradient at the end.

I hope so too, but if past experiences taught us anything is that most team will enter damage control mode and race for second place.
And multi -leaders team almost never win.
If ineos attack, EF, bora n maybe some other GC teams like FDJ or arkea will respond as they need to protect powless, vlasov n their GC rider position. In the end, pogi will benefit from all of this
I like inoes too
But
Ineos should focus only on Stage wins
I don't think Thomas has what it takes to beat pogacar , Yates is bad at TT , their only hope is Martinez for GC, but he will be a domestique to Thomas i think.

Again, questionable tactics by Jumbo Visma. I mean, Van Aert probably enjoyed himself today, but he also missed a big opportunity for another stage win, had he not gone in the breakaway all day.
Großschartner is a really good mechanic. with him Jonas would have lost no time yesterday.
What's the story with chains jamming in between chainrings these days? It seems to happen very often...is it a Shimano design fault?
It takes a mighty narrow chain in order to fit 12 cogs in the back nowadays.
Almost surprised that the top, pure sprinters are not breaking them on their final snap jump to the line. ;)
@@nofascistsonmywatch but surely a 12-speed chainset is designed for a 12-speed chain?? Does Campagnolo have this same problem?

And you can not give too much time to WvA either : he is not really a GC threat but with a 3 minute buffer he would be
c) Consequentially Laporte or even better Benoot would have had a much better chance to win from the breakaway because they would've had a much better chance to get to the end with the breakaway.
Oh and d) if the goal is to avoid having to work just screen the breakaway until there are no dangerous guy in it and let them take 20 minutes. Now the other teams will work if they want the stage.
