Hi Rakesh& amma,I am in Tirunelveli.Your varuthu aracha kuzhambu was fantastic.Here,we do as breakfast ,manja pongal& this kuzhambu on all festive days& we have vatthal,vadaam as side dishes
We make this for Manja Pongal and we call it Oopucharu in Ayyangar houses 😊 But our typical Tirunelveli practice we don’t use rice only Toordhal and other ingredients 😊
The name is same but some variations in ingredients.. chaena murungakka marandhutel.. naattu kaaygari . We skip tuvaram paruppu but instead we use ulundhu and fry everything in oil . alongwith vendhayam too . And grind with thenga .. the ellu and ulundhu and vendhayam is pronounced in the aroma.. we could make very distinctly that amma has made this today...😋😋😋.. but trust I'm going to try this...it would be yummy yummy.thanks for bringing it .. my parents are both from tirunelveli pathamadai and kalakkadu

My in laws are from tirunelveli .I hv trained all tnvli items. They call it this kuzhambu as varuthu araicha kuzhambu in ayyengars. Thalagam in Iyer I think so. Any way.super.happy pongal

The mention of ellu, manja Pongal kindled lot to f childhood memories (most of the perumal temples in tirunelveli side give manja Pongal as prasadam. It will even have bits of coconut added 😊) . In our agraharam in Nagercoil , there was a ராமர் மடம் , where the mama who maintained the madam was a cook for weddings and other functions as well, used to make thayir sadham and thalagam for hanumath jayanthi and it will be ஊர் சாப்பாடு. we all used to look forward for the day.
