Branford traffic is bad already, when they finally finish putting in the Costco store, Wayne Gretzky Parkway is gonna be a fucking nightmare. I don’t think people realize The impact the store is gonna have on Branford. You think there’s traffic in Branford now people just wait and see.
Just like most people in the comments are saying, traffic REALLY needs to be considered. Brantford has been so busy looking at where to throw more units (and where are the low-income units, by the way) rather than looking at Brantford very old infrastructure.
# 1 issue is the lack of medical care, being able to to get a doctor’s appointment, even getting a doctor and let’s talk about a minimum 4 hr. wait at the hospital’s emergency services. Would love to see you address these issues.
@@Smol_SchanHe asked for comments, people are just mentioning their concerns. With so many new residential units- medical care will get much worse. It’s worth mentioning
Personally, this brings me a little hope for the future of our city. I'm a big fan of public transit and good urban design, and this plan for increased density seems great to me. As a lot of people have said, traffic will probably be an issue, but I really hope their strategy is to divert traffic rather than continue to push it through, and maybe we could get some easier paths to downtown from this area. If that happens, I might want to call this area my home someday. I know traffic probably isn't what youd deal with, but I hope your efforts in the project are successful, because I'm excited about this! Best of luck to you!
Hello! I am a local resident in EP and am excited about many aspects of this development but have major concerns. Of course traffic is an issue but has anyone addressed the environmental issue's? Where is the water for all these homes coming from? Can the existing city infrastructure handle it? I've heard about other sites being constructed in Paris that this was a major issue. Thoughts??
Hey Lynne - thanks for your comment. I don’t work for the developer or the city - just brining the info to the people of Brantford. I know that any development must go through a full scale planning process with the city and all the relative departments. From what have read in city reports the infrastructure can more than handle this level of growth. I’m curious what your environmental concerns are? Thanks again for watching.
West Brant is already a traffic nightmare & this project will spill over to make it even worse! City needs to divert traffic to take the pressure off of Colborne St.west. Extend the BSAR perhaps? This project is going to jam too much into a relatively small area imo
Protecting music venues is an absolute must. Club NV was already torn down years ago and nothing has been built there yet. Music functions as a platform for people of Brantford to both have a voice, a source of entertainment, and it provides attention and tourism to neighbouring cities. Brantford didn’t ask to get ran down, so while this revitalization happens, I hope people recognize the value of protecting pieces of history and culture. The beating heart of Brantford will always be the working class, no matter how many wealthy homes are built, businesses that can provide good jobs that can sustain incomes for these future homes as well as a form of culture or reason to live in Brantford has to be recognized. No one likes it the way it is, it’s just better than a bunch of soulless glass, steel and concrete. Brantford doesn’t even have flowers in their flower gardens anymore, just consider these things before all you have of historic Brantford buildings are photos and memories.
The traffic is absolutely ridiculous on erie ave now and the traffic noise is crazy The council people do not return calls to hear from people who live there they are just like an ostrich there head barrier in the sand so they can't hear you
My only concern is parking accommodations downtown. Considering there is commercial space added and it is close to the campus buildings and grocery (presuming there is one there after the development), I could envision managing to live there without a car as a student if all I were doing was attending classes. However, if I have to get anywhere else in town to work then I need a car and the ratio of units to spaces doesn't add up, especially with commercial businesses located there which means customers will be occupying many spaces coming and going. That said, I'm no expert on city planning or stats on how many people tend to own cars in the these sort of units, so maybe it is enough. In any case, I call it an improvement.
I don’t see any adjustments to traffic. We are gonna add more people which is great and great for business. But congestion is a serious issue. Hopefully being so dense people will adjust the culture to more of a European style and start cycling and using public transit when possible for day to day necessities.
What jobs in the area provide employment and salary for individuals that are interested in purchasing these products. How are these people going to get to thier jobs. Look at Paris Ontario and we see what is going to happen when you build homes and infrastructure that have no access to roads and highways.
It's good to see a city council that is finally planning ahead for the future because for years we had members that just couldn't let go of the past and the "Massey years." Like many other people my concern is the traffic issues that we are currently facing in this city. Brant ave. is leading into this area and already has it's traffic issues. I understand there was a plan for an over pass in the area to deal with back log of traffic....Thanks for the info Jeff.
This looks exciting but all I could think about while I was watching the video is - traffic, traffic, traffic. Increased density means an increase of cars and Brantford isn't set up very well for that.
@JeffThibodeau I personally hope traffic gets diverted around the area in favour of public transit, because that's something quite lacking in Brantford.
@@Smol_Schan I remember when the buses were basically driving around town empty. Now there seems to be crowds at every bus stop. Hopefully this increased usage and demand allows them to expand the system.
I feel there are lots of spaces they could develop . Greenwich and Mohawk is a great area to develop if they need more housing . And if they further the population grows I don’t feel the actual info structure of Brantford can really support any more population growth.
Brantford is ugly from any angle huh? The traffic will be a big problem. Historically speaking insufficient parking in the area could cause serious issues in the long run. We don't need another failure like Eaton's. That practically killed downtown. Without consideration for parking businesses in a location that dense don't stand much of a chance long term. Residential will likely flourish but its going to expensive compared to everything around it. I'd be concern about Brantford's ability to provide stable enough jobs to support the residents. Other wise the area could see slow deterioration. I like the concept Brantford needs to advance like this. Brantford has long been a "stop go" for all the other major cities around us. When really it should have been a central hub between them. Denser population could in theory attract more industry. Lets hope for good luck and see where it goes. Brantford has been growing steadily but it was stagnant for a very long time. Projects like this are absolutely needed.
I try to be open minded, but I’m thinking the City will reap huge rewards in the developer fees etc. as well as increased tax revenue, but the (mostly) condos will probably have excessive condo fees making the dwellings unaffordable for most- will be interesting. I think traffic WILL BE a big issue and probably a deterrent for people travelling from other areas to patronize the new businesses. The new biz’s have to be able to be sustained through the near by neighbourhoods and new residents. I have a lot of concerns with the extreme density as well.
Brantford - like many cities and towns has issues to deal with . The comments already posted make some excellent points . Living in Burlington I strongly considered downsizing and relocating to Brantford . My wife and I spent 3 full days ( 6-7 hours each) spread over 2 months to get to know this community . Not impressed. We found it quite dirty and unkempt…..dangerous to walk around in certain areas……the locals we met in coffee shops and restaurants were also not happy with their town …..not sure why such a push for a revitalized downtown plan - most people find shopping , dining etc. in any downtown core to be a hassle ( parking and traffic mainly. Long story …..we stayed in Burlington and are glad for it .
Brantfords downtown demands a serious change as downtown is heart of the city n i think they should also focus to make start a small initiative to make some tourist spots so that other people can come n give us business

The micro plastics is more of a producer/manufacturer issue. Have you attended the public meetings being held? I’m sure environmental issues are being discussed.
Modern urban planning is a fool's errand. Population density is not considered, just tax dollars and making developers richer. What will happen when you realize that 6 people will be living in 2 bedroom apartments of which 4 own cars. Where will everyone park especially on game night with all of the Civic Centre upgrades.
