East Sussex County Council should rebuild the Rye to Camber Tram Line. Visitors could travel to Rye by mainline train and then the tram to Camber. Save on traffic congestion and pollution. Special away day tickets from London, Kent, East Sussex and Surrey. Camber gets large numbers of visitors sadly causing grid lock on our roads.
Very interesting. Thanks. However, the line did not start from Rye station but across the Rother next to the Monkbretton bridge by the school. It's a pity the Royal Navy did not compensate for the damage they inflicted on the line during WW2, which forced it to close. When you see what the Belgians have done with railways that run by their sea fronts, it is a pity, given the appalling congestion at Camber, that the tramway could not be re-established or a line like the Hythe and Dymchurch railway constructed.
It's a shame there are no Cine films of this line as in a few photos you can see holiday makers with them in their hands, you couldn't reopen the line as a large section of it is a flooded quarry now.
One photo used is of the 2ft gauge Camber Railway in the Falkland Islands.
