I noticed that in this they took the items from the front, but that would be interesting to see if taking them from the back where they are more obscured by the shelfs would make the ai have a harder time recognizing it.

So it's like Amazon's store, just a little fancier? Amazon's store has actual sensor on all the racks, shelves and along with cameras and stuff. This is just using cameras and AI, which, ngl, is even more impressive. I wonder if it's as accurate as Amazon's and if they allow a easy refunds or returns like Amazon. What about picking things from one shelf and keeping them somewhere else? Also, this depends a lot on honor system. In Amazon store, the phone scan happens before a sort of a barricade, or turnstiles, there exists no such thing here. So what stops someone from just stealing something without actually scanning their phone and paying for it? Ofc, most people would likely not do it but some could definitely do it.
I bet this system could be easily tricked, but not in your favor. I think you could easily make it think you took something out of the store by hiding it under another item or something. Also the camera needs to be able to see everything, so they cant stock the shelves etc. super tight an super full. Like stacking an opened box of candy on top of an unopened one. @@standard-ai so basically cut hours for 90% of employees? Or cut 90% of employees from the store? First it's just the cashier but eventually it will be A.I. restocking and cleaning. Am I wrong or right?
@Talley ho Generally speaking, that’s not what we’re seeing. We’ve interviewed many cashiers and found that they’re excited about autonomous retail. There’s a lot of work at stores that still needs the human touch, and there’s a huge opportunity for retailers who use this tech to double-down in areas like customer service that often take a hit when everyone’s stuck behind the counter.
