Abe Sapien i agree with this. That’s why I don’t complain when I work as many hours as I do. I know this guy who is 70 yrs old and works everyday just like me. I feel really bad for him because he is in debt up to his eyeballs and will probably work like this until he dies. So sad.

@@gavip24 Thank you for your comment, Gabriela. I was a small business owner for 8 years and recently had to close. It was very painful to transition from comfortable independence to blue collar work (pizza jobs, housekeeping, etc.). Two years ago I even lost my car and lived entirely by bus for 7 months. Now I have a '98 Buick that I take care of. Anyways, I feel I work just as hard now--maybe harder--than when I ran my six-figure publishing business.

Plus the interest accrued over 13 years would add so much more to the principle. She’ll probably realize that soon and pay off the debt. She has goals, she has things to do with that $, if she strictly paid off the loan, she most likely wouldn't own her own house or have much in retirement (compounding interest). If she didn't have the house she wouldn't have over 1k a month, that's 12k a year plus principal pay down. Using loans correctly to leverage your $ is important, she's doing it correctly as long as she's got goals. If she's letting it sit in a savings account, then she should pay them off. But I think she wants to buy another house, then she would rent out her current house and make even more $.

@@anaadventures7669 She's buying security by paying off the mortgage first. Stocks average 6-7% returns each year, assuming good diversification and a good year. With a monthly student loan payment of $262, her interest rate is probably about 4.5%. If she invests the money that she would have put towards student loans, she'll have about a 1.5-2.5% spread between her investments and student loan debt, which is based on average market returns. This spread is beneficial only if she can make returns above her student loan interest, which might be hard across 13 years. Also, if she pays off the mortgage in 3 years or less, she'll stockpile cash quickly and can invest that or cover those costly home repairs that she mentioned in the video.

It’s really not that much, saving 1/3 of your income should be the the goal, maybe even 50%.

@@SK-mr6ov It really is a lot. I don't understand the hoity toity people who think it's not. Statistically she's crushing the median household all by herself. Could she save more? Probably, but most Americans don't save anywhere near 1/3 their income. Her case is a triumph.

KalbiKing I agree she is doing really well, but not well enough to where she should start spending all of it yet. The median household income shouldn’t be something you compare yourself to if you wanna be financially independent. So yes 112k is a lot for the avg but it’s not a lot for people who want to be wealthy. So saving and investing should be her first priority, not spending.

KalbiKing 200k should be her next goal
