Salute DG in my opinion Merino would solve a huge problem for Arsenal. The reason I think Arsenal is signing Merino is that Arteta and team has identified that they need a midfielder who can create chances when Arsenal is facing a deep block, which is almost every game now. Teams have figured out Arteta's style of build up play, so opposing teams press high and then fall into a deep block when defending Arsenal. This causes slow ball progression in the build up play and it becomes difficult to penetrate and break teams down in the final third. Merino would be a player who attacks the box when a cross comes in, i.e. Kai and Merino in the box during a cross makes more chance for scoring. This is also on dead balls situations: Kai, Marino + Big Gabby, Saliba and Calafiori ...5 top aerial duelers in the box can cause big concern for any team. Obviously Rice is taking the free kick or the corner kick cause his whip and pace on the ball is just monstrous
As I keep saying we aint signing first teamers. Pedro is a perfect example, just a replacement / rotation option to fill the seat vacated by Nketiah. He ain't bench Saka, Havertz, Nelli or Jesus. Its just a warm body. And Romano is right, no way we sign Osimhen, Gyokeres or any other don that would force Arteta yo bench Havertz. Its a shambles DG. We are never closing the gap on the elite clubs.
