Thank you for not softpedalling Alice Guy's importance.

Until a couple of days ago, I didn't know anything about her . . . now I want to learn all I can about her and her pioneering achievements!

All is not lost. I only came across this after noticing Alice Guy's name on the IMDb and new documentary is being made narrated by Jodie Foster. I'd never heard of Alice Guy until today, what a pioneer!

Yes! It's called "Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché. I can't wait to see it. And thank you Wheeler Winston Dixon and UNL for helping to bring her into the forefront of filmmaking, where she rightfully belongs. :-)

      1895
Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat (The Lumière Brothers, 1895)
Many have argued whether or not this can be considered the very first narrative movie ever.

Thank you for posting this video tribute to Alice Guy-Blache. I have known of her cinematic achievement all my life because Leon Gaumont was my great grandfather. Incidently I attended UNL for my graduate studies.

I was a film student and so we found out about her there. She was wonderful. She was the first filmmaker, not the first female filmmaker as they say. I have had to deal with the sexism in the film world too and I say-it really sucks!!!!

See a bunch of her great films on the KINO DVD boxed set "Gaumont Treasures Vol. 1, Disk 1". Great stuff! Early sound. Early color. Some laugh out loud comedies also.

We can´t find this information in history books, sexism victim that´s all, though, it´s pretty important for everybody, and specially film students, that these facts be documented and history be modified with the truth.

I just learned about Alice-Guy Blanche and she’s a very interesting director. I wish sexism didn’t ruin her chance to make more films.

First French woman film director .... don’t forget to say it. In France everyone knows Alice Guy Blaché, Georges Méliès , Léon Gaumont , Auguste and Louis Lumière etc are all French.... fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaumont

What about her Cabbage Patch Fairy and other films those were very disturbed, twisted, and creepy of selling orphan premature babies! 😱
