    The BeFree specifically says not to clean it horizontally under running tap water. Only to shake the bottle or swirl the filter in fresh/clean water. You show it under a tap lol. NBD probably.

    I havent tried the filter bc this info was new to me. But I have the flux 1L, I love it bc of its durability and bc its lightweight and I can put it in my pocket when its empty. Best bottle I've ever had. The only downside is that the bottle isn't keeping the water cold very long if its a hot day.

    My Katadyn BeFree filter has failed the integrity test after a few weeks of use. How's the HydraPak Filter holding up?

      What happened to it? So far so good with this filter.

      I think UA-cam is preventing me from replying... strange. Last try: I've refilled my katadyn about twice a day over a the span of two weeks until the integrity test failed. I was able to bl_w air back into the flask through the filter. Katadyn recommends strongly to discard the filter in such a case, so I stopped using it.

    Those smaller filters should also fit the Hydropak Stow soft bottles.

      Yes, good point. That is what I showed in one of the photos. I think just having one of those smaller filters is a great bikepacking tool.

    Подскажите, пожалуйста, как после похода "перевести" фильтр HydraPak 42 MM Filter Cap в "режим ожидания" до следующего похода , то есть ополоснуть рабочую поверхность фильтра только чистой проточной водой и дать высохнуть или есть ещё варианты?

    I've been in the outdoors for decades and trained regular Joes to people going for an expedition. And one important thing is "gear reliability". I just cannot recommend this hydraPak or the Katadyn BeFree. Why? Because of the bag! There are countless stories of people who had punctures. This, even if they were very careful. It's simple; the more components, the more failure point. IMHO, the best water filter is the Sawyer Squeeze. It's lightweight, smaller than the Katadyn and HydraPack kits, and *bomb-proof.* Also, beware that NONE of those can filter viruses. So it's important to know if you go to places like Africa. You can still use those but will need to add pills to the water. Or you can use a SteriPen.

    • @nate7629
      @nate7629 Рік тому

      Other than the Sawyer brand is there a filtration system you could recommend for viruses as well as the others typically covered with filtration systems?

    • @DiabloOutdoors
      @DiabloOutdoors Рік тому

      @@nate7629 Hello Nate. the Sawyer Squeeze, mini, micro doesn't remove viruses. One of the best is the MSR guardian but it is bulky and heavy. You can go for the Steripen since it's using UV light and it kills everything. The downside is that it is battery operated and it's easy to break it. You can also combine a Sawyer (or a BeFree) + purification tablets. This being said, it is generally accepted there's no virus in North America. So it depends on where you're going.

      I know many have done this in the past. after trying to thread the BeFree on my current flux, the threads pitch is a bit off. It works, but you really need to force it.

    Always hesitant about the bottle fill systems in case of situations where there is not enough flowing/deep water to fill.

    • @nate7629

      @@nate7629 The only systems that would be able to get it out of basically a puddle are the pump filters or straw filters. Pump based will be much larger and heavier and straw offers no ability to store water. Either way though drinking out of a trickle or stagnant puddle wouldn't be my first choice.

    Is it a virus filter and has a carbon filter too? If not I’m out

    So that filter is as good as the Sawyer for drinking water out of the streams or rivers… In terms of filtration

    • @BIKEPACKINGcom
      @BIKEPACKINGcom  Рік тому +4

      Yes, it does the same thing. But the beauty of this filter or the BeFree filter is the self-cleaning aspect. The Sawyer requires back flushing, and sometimes does not always work well even after back flushing. This style, in my experience, provides a faster flow of water for a longer period of time. Generally speaking, I find them to be more reliable.
