      @@NiaMakiReacts It's not really accurate though, ppl are overthinking something that the show and scene already made clear. She was making a suicide stand, she wasnt trying to get away or get into a fight she could lose that would prevent her from setting off the explosives, which would mean she dies for nothing and Joel and Ellie probably die too. She tried to flick the lighter on and the spark wouldn't catch, which is just a thing that happens with lighters sometimes when they're low on fuel (especially in movies for dramatic tension). She wasnt trying to get away so the infected that noticed her wasn't aggressive towards her, it just tried to transmit the infection.
      Once the infection reaches the brain a person is done, it floods the brain with hallucinogens and they're no longer able to consciously control themselves. This is most likely what we saw happening to the elderly neighbor in the first episode, the moment the infection reached her brain. Clearly that hadn't happened to Tess yet. She was trying to die and take them all with her and that's what she did, under her own power.

      @@mediumvillain The showrunners/director of the episode said on the aftershow podcast that Tess was gone before the explosion, and that the last flick of the Bic that lit was her last act as Tess, and that she dropped the lighter because she was gone and lost control of her body. So... I guess we'll have to debate it.

    A little bit knowledge (not a spoiler) to help you understand the infected.
    What you have seen from the two episodes are 3 stages of infected.
    1. Runner: those that are newly infected, they can still see and hear. These are the ones you saw in the first episode.
    2. Stalker: the fungi started to grow out of the host's head partially. This was the one that 'kissed' Tess. They can still see partially and hear.
    3. Clicker: they are the ones in the museum. They cannot see but they can hear. That's why they make the clicking sound as a way to use echolocation like bats (Ellie talked about this when they were crossing the highway just before they heard the clicker's scream in the distance).

    I'm not surprised you thought the kid in the story was going to be Sarah. I went into the game completely blind other than knowing there was a man and girl and that it was a post-apocalyptic setting... and I knew the girl's name was Ellie. When you play the game, the first time you get control is playing as Sarah. I assumed this was Ellie, and didn't figure out otherwise until I found a birthday card to Joel that says, "Love, Sarah." My heart immediately sank, because I couldn't imagine there being two main kids in the game, and I knew right then and there what was coming, although that still didn't soften the blow of seeing it actually happen.

      Great early moment of the game is playing as Sarah, you walk her into Joel's room to see the news on the TV. Reporter woman is talking about some car crash and how people don't know what the cause of it was, then the building behind her explodes from a gas leak and the broadcast cuts out. But as the player, you notice the explosion sounded real loud coming from the left side of the screen. You look out the window and see the fire plume right out in the distance.
      As the player you realize, "Oh shit, I'm right next to that"

    Zombies bleed normally cause they are technically not dead, the fungi needs the body to function but depending on how advanced the spread is, some injuries are more effective then others. In the game you can choke or use a shive to kill them and not just headshot only as in other zombie movies.

    • @madelinewhite1749
      @madelinewhite1749 Рік тому +2

      Even then though the injuries are still related to removing the connection to the brain, which is what the cordyceps needs to control the body function. That’s why choking (cutting off circulation to the brain or breaking the neck/brain stem) and using a shiv both work to kill the infected.
      The clickers in this episode were spot on... gave me chills, it was so cool hearing them outside the game, and the way their arms flail, that was perfect, the actors nailed it!

    In the first episode with the two federal officers and the kid there's a sign on the wall showing the speed at which the fungus takes over.
    Leg: 12-24hrs
    chest/arm/shoulder/abdomen: 2-8hrs
    neck/face: 5-15mins
    Tess was bitten on the shoulder. By the time they got to the state building she was fighting to maintain control of her body that's why u see her struggle to flick the lighter and why she stands there and gets kissed.

    The ‘kiss’ at the end of the episode is misunderstood a lot of the time, so here’s a little explanation to help you understand it:
    The way people get infected is that when a person gets bit, the fungi (the weird stuff hanging from the infected’s mouths) goes inside of the wound and travels all the way up to the brain (there’s a chart shown in the first episode that gets more in depth into this when they were testing the little girl). The infected walked past tess because they’d already sensed that she was infected, kind of like how they sense each other. The infected that ‘kissed’ Tess, however did that so he can get the fungi to Tess’s brain faster to speed up the process, like an invitation to Tess to become one of them.

    Ah hope. I did not play this game but I am familiar with the creators and the writing style of their stories. This is a tragedy. The key is in the name of the game/show "The Last of Us". Its over, civilization is on its last breath. If you watch interviews with the creators/showrunners they say it is a tragic story. The story if you take everything away is about love. The love that will keep us together in a dire situation and how that same love can doom humanity. So yeah its a dark tragedy.

    SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE EPISODE. Just to answer some of your questions as you bring them up in the vid. Smugglers do what smugglers always do, make money by supplying otherwise hard to get things. Joel and Tess are very familiar with the Boston ruins. The infected will 'avoid' the sun, but they are not like vampires, it won't kill them or anything. Welcome to 'Clickers', stage three infected. Echo location and hard to kill. In the game, bullets are hard to come by and it can take quite a few to kill a clicker. If you are going to play the game at any point remember, don't waste bullets and use stealth around these things. The infected that 'kissed' Tess is a 'Stalker,' stage two infected. Stalkers are sneaky, sneaky and lay in wait. Btw, Tess likely couldn't resist the kiss because she was using her last moments of free will to light the zippo.

People spend years making these series, thinking about it deeply is a genuinely good way to enjoy them, overthinking isnt necessarily a negative thing. I guess there's just two types of media, the ones you need to turn your brain off to enjoy and those that reward you for being observant and analytical, both are good
    Im not sure what tone im conveying but just to clarify im trying to be reassuring and say that overthinking and wild theories are fun xD

    Well crap. I had been pausing to comment, and then didn't post it, and the playlist moved on.
    The flour factory backstory has never been mentioned in the game to my knowledge, and it's not _known_ it absolutely was in flour, but it's the most likely source, It could be something else, but logically it fits.
    Ellie asks about super infected, and heads split open that see in the dark like bats (echolocation) echolocation is discerning an environment based on the return of sound you create. Bats use extreme frequency sound waves that the echo returning to them lets them know where a great many things are. The infected in the museum we see later are using a form of echolocation. If they hear a sound of unknown origin, they will be drawn to it. Standing behind a glass wall would render you invisible to them as their sounds would echo back from the wall rather than from you.
    What Tess showed was where the infection had spread to, inside Tess's body. If you refer back to the sign from episode 1 with the child brought in, an ankle/foot bite would be 12-24 hours until full infection. Tess was likely bitten at or near the ankle. She was very snappy about letting her deal with her twisted ankle, and was becoming increasingly impatient because she knew she didn't have time. She was afraid Joel might not finish the job if she wasn't there, and that's why she finally admitted and begged Joel to "save who you can save" acknowledging it's too late for her, but if Ellie is hope for the future, Tess is asking Joel to get her where she needs to go.
    Your idea of smearing Ellie's blood, wow, you're a bit overzealously macabre. It's not a fungus spreading on the skin, it's one inside the body. Assuming the immunity is somehow part of her blood and not her genetics, you'd need a transfusion from her.

      Take the following with a grain of salt, but my dad claims the flour backstory is in the game as well, on a paper you can find in the early stages, but he also says it's really easy to miss. I can't confirm this myself, as I played the game only once and didn't find it myself.

I thought this would be just another beloved IP wrecked by political ideology, and bad writing, but I think I have to admit I was wrong. After 2 episodes the show looks pretty good, and it follows the game closely enough. The casting works, and the acting is good, and I am actually looking forward to the rest of this show (and not just for Nia's reaction).

    Again you're absolutely right about Joel disliking Ellie and blaming her for Tess death. On the podcast after the episode, the showrunners confirmed in the final scene that Joel blames Ellie for Tess death and he just left without waiting for Ellie to follow along kind of like "I'm going on, if you follow me, fine. If not, then stay or whatever, I don't care."
    Another thing is that Tess was the leader and glue of the group. Ellie liked Tess cause she talked to Ellie as an adult and were kind to her. Ellie doesn't like Joel at all as we can clearly see in these 2 episodes and vice versa. And for Joel, Tess was this person he could rely on and listens to. He was the muscle while she was the brain kind of. Joel has always in one way or another been taken cared off. Even before the outbreak we saw how Sarah was the one constantly taking care of Joel, from waking him up in the morning, to making breakfast, fixing his watch cause he would never do it himself etc. Now for the first time Joel has to be the leader and take care of another person, someone he doesn't even like (or like him back)

    • @liaraion6038
      @liaraion6038 Рік тому +4

      From my perspective, Joel has always been "the protector" while he was being taken care of in the first episode from that, we know that he really cares about his family and will do everything to keep them safe, that's why Joel is such a morally bad character, he tried to take care of Sarah, worries a lot about tommy and all the things he gets himself into.
      Tess was like his family, at the beginning we obviously see how Joel hates Ellie, especially after the death of Tess by blaming her death on Ellie, because she was family, while she is just baggage. But, after some time (and we start seeing this in chapter 4) we see how Ellie is growing on Joel and he is becoming the protector one again, being a father again.

    @G1Transformed Рік тому +1

    @Nia Maki,
    6:10 No, you're right. It's too late! Did you catch the date of this flashback? This scene takes place on 8/24/2003, which is two days BEFORE Joel's birthday and the start of episode one. We heard about the civil unrest in Jakarta while the Millers ate breakfast, so Indonesia was really going through it on Joel's birthday. More importantly, had the government officials had done what what the professor told them to do, it might not have changed anything, as the flour and grains from that factory were already in homes and store shelves the world over. Nana Adler wasn't bitten. She was force fed biscuits and cookies made from contaminated flour.
    6:56 How rate is someone like Ellie? The world population was around 7 billion people in 2003, surely there were others like Ellie, and they likely died during the bombings or attacks 20 years ago ='( What do people do when they find out someone's infected? They kill them. Imagine how many immune people were killed/euthanized out of fear =O
    7:33 This is the end of days. Ellie was born in this world, and Tess is living in it. It might not be ideal, but this is how everyone goes to the bathroom around here these days =/ Particularly those outside the QZ.
    9:05 Indonesia had a two day head start and things fell apart quickly. Governments the world over likely said, nope and started started bombing cities everywhere the moment they realized what happened in Jakarta is quickly happening in their boarders too--the US had fighter jets flying overhead and the military keeping people from leaving states by highway, remember? They didn't know which areas were going to be bad, but they were determined to quarantine cities, and as we saw with Joel and Sarah, kill anyone they thought might be sick ='(
    9:46 this was shown in the teaser, so we should be getting an episode or a flashback on this scene. If you don't already keep a towel or tissues nearby, you should start next week. This is a heavy story and its going to keep building. It's terribly sad, but sooooooooooooo good.
    10:51 YES! FEDRA banned a lot of things, so if you want something that's not allowed, you need someone like Joel and Tess to get it for you. As they have to put their lives on the line, what they get for you won't be cheap. You asked earlier why they weren't getting swarmed by the infected, right? This isn't Joel and Tess first outing. They're going to the places they know are safe, places they use to crash when they need to rest.
    11:37 "What's that?" That would be Cordyceps looking for a life line, like that infected in the basement in episode one. The host could no longer provide substance, so the Cordyceps reached out trying to latch on to anything to help it live, but as we can see here, there was nothing to latch on to, so it died right here from starvation. The human body is 60% water and warm, its the right condition for cordyceps to thrive in this new world.
    12:34 Don't look away. I know it can be unnerving, but do you best to see what's happening. 頑張れ!
    13:34 Infected have several stages. The first stage is what attacked Ellie and what we saw from Nana Adler, Runners. The next stage up you'll see near the State House, which is called Stalker. Stalkers is a blend of human and Cordyceps, as the Cordyceps grow, they slowly start to grow over their host, as they do in insects today, making their host look more like them than what they were before the parasitic relationship began. The stages of the infected were named by their actions, so Stalkers stalk, though this might differ in live action given that they just explained that the Cordyceps have a mycelial connection. They don't need to hunt you if they know where you are. The ones we're seeing in the museum are called Clickers; hence, the clicking sounds they make. Clickers are further along in their transformation, which is why they look less human. The upper skull splits to give way to fruiting (blossoming). With the upper head gone, so is the ability to see. They rely on echolocation to hunt, so a silencer on guns probably wouldn't work, as they still produce a sound, and clickers have extremely good hearing.
    14:52 Yes, they need to kill the host, and the only way to do that, if they stick with game rules, is killing the brain, as that's the only thing left of the host that is truly the host. The epidemiologist in the first episode was explaining how Cordyceps wall of the brain, locking the insect out of its body, while it hijacked it. That's what they've done to humans. The infected are prisoners in their own bodies, helpless to do anything, but watch/hear what their bodies are doing to others. They will have a slow painless and very traumatizing death, and to make matters worse, remember the cordyceps are using their hosts body for substance. Yikes!
    15:22 Look at Ellie's arm. What's going on there? What's different in comparison to other infected that we've seen? Her immune system has done to the Cordyceps what Cordyceps normally do to humans, it walled off the region the cordyceps entered, which is those weird marks on her arm aren't expanding. Ellie's immune system learned how to fight and won.
    15:30 Notice the mood change. This is an important moment. Tess has a lot on her mind, and she's trying to figure out what to do. As she's a woman of her word, she toughens up and does her best to see her job through.
    16:47 She's in a hurry. She's racing against the clock.
    17:26 in the museum, Tess and Ellie tripped on something on the floor, remember. Tess got up and told Ellie to run while she went in the opposite direction. Ellie was with Joel fending off one of the Clickers and Tess got cornered by the other. What's weird is that the Clicker that was attacking Tess stopped attacking her and went to help the other Clicker attacking Joel and Ellie. Now we know why. The infected don't eat people, they infect them because they Cordyceps want to multiply.
    17:45 Watch Tess' hand. She's got the shakes real bad. Cordyceps are building that wall around her brain, and she's losing her motor functions. Tess likely feels herself slipping, and this is why she was in a hurry to get her. She wanted to help as much as she could. Tess is a believer, but Joel isn't. She needed to use the time to she had to turn Joel around because she knows the type of person he is.
    Joel had is eyes on Ellie so he didn't realize what was going on with Tess. And Tess had her mind on her problems, so she didn't realize that Joel is opening up. Ellie is reminding Joel of Sarah as the end of last episode implied with that flashback of Sarah's death. Ellie is the same age Sarah was when she died. Ellie is quick witted and smart like Sarah. Ellie also likes to play with a knife...like we saw Sarah doing in Joel's room with his knife. Slowly, but surely, Ellie's growing on Joel, and he's already protective of her, but he hasn't really noticed it.
    18:21 He's a stalker.
    19:29 It looks that way, but I don't think it's the lighter. We've had two scenes that showed Tess with the shakes. She's having a hard time keeping her hands steady and I think she's lacking the coordination to flick her lighter. She's slipping fast, as I think these next few seconds will show.
    19:35 She's not a concern. Do you remember Mercy? Mercy knew Nana Adler was off. She likely smelled different. Tess likely does too.
    19:39 That's fear in her eyes, but she's also transfixed. She can't move away because the Cordyceps want this to happen. It must have taken a great amount of willpower to keep flicking that lighter. Somehow she managed to get the job done, even while she was losing her inner battle ='(
    Another nice reaction. Get those tissues ready.

    Technically there us no such thing as a "silencer" for a gun. That term is only used in media. They make suppressors for guns but the gun is still loud enough to hear. The suppressors main use today us for hunting so the hunter doesnt have to use ear protection which can prevent them from hearing their surroundings. The gun becomes quiet enough that the bang doesnt hurt your ear drums. But its still loud enough to scare anything thats around.
