Just picked one up its a beast best tablet and I mean dedicated tablet on the market
@@therealmvpcali Right? I’m on a 2020 iPad Pro, which obviously kills it, but at the time iPad Air 2 was just amazing. My mom’s is still kicking.
after 4 years, watching it on my Air 2 and it's still rocks :)
Vlad Fishermann AFTER 5 YEARS PLAYING EVERY GAME AND DOING EVERYTHING ON MY IPAD AIR 2 !
I think that iPads are the best tablets even though I prefer my Note 4 over an iPhone 6 Plus. The incredible multitasking on the gorgeous Quad HD screen & S Pen won my heart over in the end. But when it comes to tablets, in my opinion, it doesn't get much better than Apple.
melvyn cassar Sorry but you have to decide on just one tech that you like and then call anyone that owns something else with you an idiot.
Just kidding. You are right. I admittedly have an iPhone and an iPad 2 but I am thinking about switching my phone back to Android. The reason is that I use my phone more and I want more customization, multitasking, wireless charging etc. All of that stuff gets in the way on a tablet. I just want my tablet to work great for watching video, reading, and surfing the web.
7 years later and I’m still using my iPad Air 2 almost everyday.
First iPad mini retina here (exactly the device that I’m writing with), everyday use and multiple hours. I don’t use any kind of tv and it still rocks great
Android - Not as user friendly or clean, but more features and customization.
IOS - Simple, clean and user friendly, but lacks features and customization.
Please stop arguing, they're for two totally different demographics. Just let people prioritize whatever they would like.
Stock lollypop is pretty clean actually, in my opinion cleaner than ios. But, yeah, good sum up
Finally! Someone that agrees with me on the ios vs android experience
User friendly? On iOS you're stuck with having apps you don't like always present on your home screen. That's not very user friendly to me.
User friendliness relates to the ease of functionality. Having unnecessary apps doesn't make it harder to navigate through the interface.
+acesolo i find it generally user friendly too, but since android devices are made by so many companies, they all have their different takes on maybe even the same android version. i personally think that apple thinks of more innovative, careful user experiences/functions, whereas android's creators simply created an operating system for people to work on, it really depends on who makes it (i've seen terrible cheap tablets from china) :D
Still watching this using the iPad Air 2 in Sept 2020 under iPadOS 14. No issue at all with performance, including battery.
I just bought one at $75. It's still on iOS 13. Should I update to iOS 14?
@@AkakiPeikrishvili if you want the update is pretty useless widgets suck on iPad.
I'm watching this on a iPad Air 2
+Madaline Lambrinidis yea he's being sarcastic. He's just saying it like that because he thinks your making a big deal out of it.
I’m still using an iPad Air 2 in 2022, with iPadOS 15.4! I can play Call of Duty Mobile on it. Outstanding longevity
Nice review as always. I have to assume the reason Apple is not taking more advantage of the availability of the pixels and RAM for hardcore multi-tasking features is because iPads are marketed toward your average iPhone user who wants the experience to be the same on all their devices for the sake of simplicity. We geeks would love to see the iPad take full advantage though, even if that does mean a slightly different user experience.
DarkBlack22
2GB is relatively enough for apple i think, but 1 gb on iphone 6 is not, website keeps refreshing after 6-8 tabs on my friend phone
but that is saying much of apple ram management
1.5 gb ram on my nexus 7 is quite enough, but 2gb on samsung android is barely because touchwiz is stupid at ram management
so i think 2gb is enough for apple products and nexus devices
Removal of the mute switch. I seriously hope they don't remove it from the phones as that would be the dumbest decision they could ever make. It's one awesome feature they've had since the first iPhone that helps set them apart. They have the Do Not Disturb control centre toggle and that's all they need. Keep the mute switch as a separate hardware feature rather than adding unnecessary bloat to the software of the device.
Tech Analyzer I only like it be a use it's easy to switch it while the screen is not on.
It's pretty nifty on the iPad when you want to lock the orientation without having to access the bottom menu. But yeah, could live without it. On phones though- yeah, it seems useful having the ability to mute in your pocket or whatever.
I am still using this in 2021. 7 years later, it still gets updates and works like a charm!
Nearly 5 years in and still getting upgraded to the next OS, looking forward to iPadOS to keep my old iPad fighting strong, it will just end up as an extra display for the Mac but that’s an ace feature
I got my iPad Air 2 yesterday as a hand me down great for media consumption
Watching this on my iPad Air 2 Space Gray 64Gb
+i Markentosh Where did you get it? I see through Verizon you can add an Ipad for $10 using your data plan for the device. )
From (PowerMAC) here in Ph, we dont have an official Apple Store here.

1) same shit
2) same shit
3) same shit
4) same shit
You're welcome.
Believe it or not, but i refuse to buy a product until you review it now. :) Patiently waiting for your Nexus 6 or recommendation. :)
Mkbhd is the best tech reviewer and I'm not going to lie I do as well feel the same way due to the fact he goes absolutely everything you can go through with a phone or tablet. Like an iOS device when you unlock it you can't immediately go in to apps or the when you use a oneplus one and use the camera from the lock screen the home buttons become black instead of blending into the background. Which may or may not bother a lot of people
PSVfootball
im saying that you shouldn't just go off one person opinion all the time and there only
Ivan Balajić we are in 2014 and if you haven't updated your iphone 4 or 4s then that pertains to them but looking at it now people care about launching apps right away everyone is don't with iphone 4 and 4s the last thing Ive seen people use is the iPhone 5 which come with iOS 7
i've owned this tablet for about 3 months now. gotta say this thing is one of the best investments i've made in electronics. as a college student i write reports, paint pictures, make music, play games, watch videos and do many other things as well with it on a daily basis, and it just feels like nothing when i slide it into my backpack. battery power is just what one would expect of an ipad.
i agree with most of the points Marques mentions, except that i really don't think the "just a grid of icons" means that all of its extra pixels are useless as all the extra pixels are made use of by app developers and going directly into apps from the "grid of icons", many of the apps are just so much better than on phones. however i 200% agree with the lack of some serious multi-tasking features like a screen-split or sth. the multi-tasking gestures they've had for quite a long time are great, but they can do much better.
***** i never really pay attention to how long the battery lasts because it always lasts long enough for me too worry about it, but as for right now, since my last charge it's been "1day2hrs of usage + 3days6hrs of standby" and the percentage is still at 52%. sometimes i have a whole bunch of apps on and use apps like launchpad and stuff to make music and keep watching videos on youtube, on those days i burn through 20~30% in maybe about 2-3hrs, so i guess it does live up to 9-10hrs.
One of the things I like about having the Touch ID sensor is I can immediately log into LastPass. That saves me a few seconds each time, which adds up. Mint also supports it - I expect more apps to use the sensor in the coming months.
Let me just say, the battery life on this thing is beyond incredible. I frequently get 6 - 8 hours screen-on time and the longest standby time I've managed so far is around 70 days. Incredible.
Still watching this on my ipad air 2 release model 😂😂 still fully functional and apple has given it the amazing multitask now especially with ipados 13
My iPad Air 2 is three years old now, and it still rocks hard! 🔥
As an Android fan, I must say this is arguably the best tablet around.

i have the ipad air 2 and its working good for 5 yrs now
How do you do it
You always have something positive to say about a product.
Every Damn Time
Bravo
Honestly, at this point only the most hardcore fan boys can't find something to like about most tech products. I dislike Apple, since they don't have what I want from my tech, but I will admit that they run very smoothly, and generally look good.
And really, as a critic, he has an obligation to be unbiased - not completely objective, but at least fair.
micke d not at all! Its a great tablet
Although when you think about it. Most reviews emphasize on the bad parts and shadow the good parts. Eg: Lack of customizable software on the air but great build quality
He does touch upon the cons but at the same time recognizes the pros and gives the pros some sufficient explanation instead of just going over the pros and spending a lot of time on the cons
The secret to be a good reviewer is being honest, unbiased and real in every detail.
The negatives about apple products, we already know them,no multimedia bluetooth sharing and no sd card slot, but is not a new product we already know how apple is, he must stick to review an ipad, coming from the ipad air, he is smart by not comparing it vs android tablets because is not the same.
Other than the negatives we know, talking about the characteristics of the ipad air 2, can we really say something negative? Or course he spoke about the physical switch being removed,he spoke about ios not using the space the best way possible, but the rest... Is there really a negative?
Now when he reviews another product takes in consideration the price, the real performance and everything, he said good things and nad things about the sharp aquos because is not the best phone, but is bezeless and just 150$ off contract.
He tries to keep his review non biased as well as professional and it shows
Best tablet: *iPad Air 2*
Best phone: *Nexus 6*
***** So everything Android just because you don't like hearing the names of iDevices? Nexus 9 would not beat the iPad Air 2. The nexus 6 could beat the iPhone 6, but the nexus 9 cannot compete with the iPad. NOPE.
Joe A. He didn't even bash apple at all. Maybe its his general opinion that he thinks Nexus 9 is a better tablet? Idiot .
I'm still using it, and it's awesome with 15.8 OS
I'm not technically savvy, but I found ur review to be very helpful (not dumbed down, but not difficult to understand). Thanks.
I hope I don't get flamed for saying this but I admire what Apple does with its smartphones and tablets. And I'm an Android user.
No hate here. I have yet to use an Apple device, but that doesn't mean we can't appreciate their designs.
Their devices always looj great. Awesome design and they always perform well. I am also an android user I don't get all the hate either.
One of the only android users ive ever seen...most of them are trying to start fights or trash talking about apple
I do admire how apple products perform well with lesser hardware than some other flagships
My second ipad. First being: ipad 3 wifi; this ipad survive 5 year of super heavy use. When it finally broke down starting with failing to charge. Now my 3rd ipad i use is m1 11” ipad pro. Kinda miss the ip air. I really love white bezel ipad and 11” is too big. 9.7 form factor is the max for me
I think iOS9 on the iPad will allow you to switch accounts.
Maybe that's one the reasons why Apple took out the 32GB config and reduced the price of 64GB.
I'm assuming that they will remove the 16GB and will make 64GB the base model.
Multiple users will usually need a large amount of storage.
bubblesisbac That's like saying that 1GB of ram is the max anyone will ever use..
Would definitely be awesome, not sure it'll happen but it would be nice not to have to make do with 16GB
Got this beast still going strong for 6 years
I bought the iPad Air 2 after this and I'm loving it. I got it in 64gb
@Augusto Yeah I have it and it will run for ten hours with wifi on from full charge :)
This will sound so stupid but anyway I have an iPad 2, is it worth upgrading to the iPad Air 2? Is there much of a difference in speed and graphics?
Yeah..It works a lot better than the IPad 2 , it has an awesome processor ,cool camera,Touch ID.It's thin and light,it has smaller bazels than the ipad 2 and is overall better !!!
My dad got an ipad 2 and My mum have an ipad air and I can say it is a massive difference you will not regret so much better screen and so much thinner
Looks like it's finally time to upgrade as I use my iPad 24/7! Thanks for the helpful advice guys :)
Definitely! I've upgraded from an iPad 2 to an air 2 64gb and there's a huge difference between speeds. And I find Touch ID useful when purchasing from the App Store. Overall I would definitely recommend it
Got the iPad Air 2 last christmas and lets just say i haven't touched my laptop since then and my phone now lasts 2 weeks without charging. I use this thing constantly. I was debating between Nexus 9 and iPad Air 2, but i do not regret my choice. it probably is the best tech choice i've every made.

that's why you get the space gray iPad, you won't notice it unless if you're looking really carefully. It feels like it's just part of the bezel
Watching this on iPad Air 2 running iPadOS 15 in 2021. Thumbs up if you think it's amazing!

I’m watching this on my IPad Air 2 in 2022 and it performed so well I bought it since it was released and the battery life is still amazing and performance is amazing I’m keeping it till it’s no longer supported.
Funny how, almost 10 years later, you can swap the name by “iPad Pro 2024” and most of what he says is still true lol
Is this still a great tablet by 2016 standards?
Kat X I have it had it for a few weeks or less I upgraded from the iPad Air 1 and the iPad Air 2 is better
is ipad air 1 still worth the buy than the ipad air 2 if you are tight in your budget?
This review has convinced me to go and buy an iPad Air 2.
I still have mine since maybe 2015, and still works! The only problem I have is the battery life dying quickly sometimes.
Hey Marques, I don't know why, but the playback at 2:23 was blurry, even when the video was fully processed.

I am not but in 2021, my air2 is still working well and using it to see this too early review.
"No NFC so you can't use Apple Pay"
To be honest, I would find someone looking way more dumb to use a 10" tablet to pay stuff than using it as a camera.
Damn even after 4 years the IPad Air 2 is still rocking like a champ!
Just got my Gold yesterday, it's brilliant much better than my old iPad mini

I remember getting this as a 5 year old it replaced my Lenovo tablet (but it's still my favorite) and to this day I still use this and am watching this video on my iPad
I am a android user, but I have to say, I'm impressed by apple on the air series.
The performance is pretty impressive.
The only problem: Price
The MiPad, Nvidia Shield Tablet blows the IPad Air out of the water here.
I mean 64 GB for £479
If only they had 32 GB with SD card, but it seems apple has decided to make everything thinner
Thinner is not the answer ! D:
Your the only normal android person ive ever seen 99.9% of the more either starting fights or trash talking about apple
Apple will never make a tablet/phone with sd slot. It is the only way to force people to use their icloud or to buy bigger capacity (more expensive) thus increasing their revenue.
I just got a ipad air 1 without realizing the air 2 had another core and a whole gb more of ram. Sure it won't make much of a difference but when you see that the phones are still at 1gb and dual core, the air 2 shows good promise for lasting a long time. I should take it back and switch.
Still using it
Mkbhd I love ya, you complain about apple pay on the iPad? Can you imagine paying for something at a store with your iPad
***** Bro, I love your videos, and will always watch them, but no mention of the iPad Air 2's App ecosystem (which is like the most important part of any device) or Continunity features, or even TouchID integration with apps. And all these features and API's being implemented by huge amounts of developers, which cant be said for another device. Even being able to access widgets anywhere in the OS from the notification tray is a huge feature, yet no mention. Doesn't that leave allot on the table in this review. I've tested the Nexus 9 and the Apps situation with blown up phone apps are horrible, even the games are zoomed in to far. IDK, this could be more of an OS perspective, but it seems like this tablets not getting its just do, that's all. You still have one of the best shown on youtube. Thanks for the great vids.
I am an android user and I admit that this is the best 10" tablet you can buy. And the home screen the freaking boring grid of icons is a blown up phone but the apps are tablet optimized and most apps are optimized to take advantage of its power and it's so light it felt like a smaller tablet and I'm a small tablet user! There are also tablet apps on iOS if only the speakers were stereo and you could replace the boring grid of icons
upgraded from painfully slow first gen iPad mini (with the processor and awful screen resolution of the second gen iPad) and I LOVE it. super fast and crazy thin and light, even thinner than the first air and the screen looks great. highly recommend if upgrading from iPad 3/4th gen or lower
Ipad air 2 is still in the latest version of ios!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who cares about an iPad ??? Nexus 6 - is way more interesting
Theyre equally interesting bitch. Why would you want a tablet any way? Get a fucking phone and at the end of the day the invention of the phone was to call someone now move along
Emanuel Luis Don't be so angry... i just thought, that the tablet which isn't changing softwarely from last year and a little changing hardwarely won't be as interesting as next gen best android phone with the brand new software experience. By the way Nexus Nine is more interesting than iPad Air 2....
And fagdriod what dont have a better insult than a sheep? Hahahahah you make me luagh now get in YOUR cage.
The CPU is extremely powerful, and the software to take advantage of that hardware is the best i seen. They made it run BF4, no stream just hardware.
He might admire apple products but deep down he hates them and is a serious android lover! :D
Like many of us, he probably finds iOS boring. But Apple's quality is unmatched for sure.
TheDark Knut *****
Well when i buy the Ipad Air 2 in the next few months, i am sure i won't find IOS boring at all, i will think it is going to be great as i don't found IOS on my Ipod touch never boring.
By the way i am a Android user and have a high end Android tablet(Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4) and i think Android is great.
I like both IOS and Android. :)
And i don't think Marques Brownlee hates Apple or the Ipad, i don't know why you assume that he hates Apple if he did hate Apple, he would of not done a video review of the Ipads or there Apple products...
Where did I even say or imply he hates Apple? Apple isn't just limited to iOS, bruv.
*****
I know you did not say that Marques Brownlee hates Apple.
Just wondering why TheDark Knut is assuming/saying Marques Brownlee deep down hates Apple?.
I am watching this on my iPad Air 2 in 2020 and it still gets me a full day
If a company has to DRASTICALLY change their product every single year that means they didn't implement it right the first time with the current technology or possibly they rushed things too soon and didn't spend enough time on the product. The same can be said with the phones. Of course as technology moves forward things will incrementally improve. But to DRASTICALLY change your product every year says "We just threw something out there and hope we get it right".
Most companies don't change products drastically everytime. However, most do add new tech when its available. People give Apple a hard time because they take forever to add new tech. But whether its Google, HTC, Motorola, Samsung, LG, or Sony.. the phone tend to be similar every year with updated software & tech. You can expect size & specs to change with every phone, every year.
Or option three, release every idea you have as a separate model, akin to throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks. Also known as "The Samsung maneuver".
Seriously though, I'm not an apple guy but the ipad remains an impressive product and people with rabid feelings one way or the other are ALL wrong.
Yeah sorta like what Microsoft did to Windows 8. Windows 7 was amazing but on Windows 8 they tried to change to much and ruined it. It's not cool putting a tablet interface on a PC, it just doesn't work.
This relies heavily on what one would consider drastic, and I have yet to see many, if any, manufacturers change their formula to any significant extent.
***** the iPad Air 2 is actually not the thinnest tablet in the world. That title goes to the Dell Venue 7 8000.
tablet-news.com/2014/10/18/dont-believe-the-hype-the-ipad-air-2-is-not-the-worlds-thinnest-tablet-a-dell-slate-is/
So Apple's marketing seems to be false. That's pretty embarrassing.
Honestly,i I'm moony know anyone who cares about the thinness of the device as long as you can hold it. More important things are battery and display.
The iPad Air 2 is still however currently the thinnest commercially available tablet. The Dell Venue looks pretty cool, don't get me wrong, but until it actually gets released, it can't take the iPad Air 2's title away just yet, as that design is still be in beta and may wind up being different than the current design being displayed.
spychicken770 I agree. I'd take a larger battery and 2-3mm extra thickness any day.
The only problem for me is the added weight. Holding my current, moderately heavy tablet for extended periods of time is less than nice.
I had this since it first came out and after almost 10 years I am upgrading to the iPad Pro 2021. I will miss this iPad 😊
Who else is watching this video on an iPad Air 2?
I bought an Air 2 when it was first released -- took it back and exchanged it for my first Macbook Pro (best tech purchase in years) .. Missed it though, so just went and picked up another Air 2 the other day. It just can't be beat. Some of the android offerings are tempting but I would miss all my games and apps that are only on iOS.
Yeah them samsung displays are good.
Do not be led astray by the false prophet Samsung. Nexus is the true path, until it is reborn as Silver.
Samsung supply's most phone displays now even apples retina is made by them heck even the 5k Mac :)
I love apple changes like 3 things jacks the price to hellish amounts and advertises it as so spectacular new product of the future I love my iPad and I play on getting a new iPad but like cmon add some cool new feature
What... What about IOS 8. Continunity, TouchID integration, and the frekin developers going crazy to implement these features on day one. You cant get that on any other device, or platform including the desktop.
Nope man, the price is the same :) Apple just seems to like doing little steps
Larry Faulkner Actually you can find all of those on PC and new Samsung devices.
ethan linquist No, not the feature's them selves. But the developer's so devoted to the platform, that the update & optimize there Apps to support these features on day one. That's some thing, Google & Microsoft would kill for.
Larry Faulkner Yes that actually does happen on android, have you even seen how many apps got created for just for the gear days before it came out? And Microsoft lets developers have their OS before anyone else just to make sure that there will be games and applications ready the day it comes out, and same goes for google. I had lots of apps that would use my thermometer on my phone and proximity sensor and IR blaster, also on Samsung devices there are way more assorted accessories available the day the phone comes out, like extended batteries for example.
Watching this on an iPad Air 2 in 2018. Still working great
Put a stylus on it! For fuck's sakes! Styluses are awesome and so much fun! You can do so much with them, and when your fingers are cold, you can use a stylus (I live in Canada)! Add that to an iPad or anything, and ill buy it. And its also something new so the product is different, not just the same as all your other products. For fucks sakes, just taking the damn stylus out will be fun enough (like a DS stylus).
IAmAPotato Films Implementing a stylus will make apple more money on its own instead of having third parties make them, and they can add features to go along with it like curtain games where a stylus is important or writing on a paper apps they can make or something. I don't know, but it would be a good addition to the ipad, instead of having hardly any changes at all for the new iPads.
IAmAPotato Films you're right about them looking like copy cats if they put a stylus lol.I didn't know samsung and other companies had a stylus till today after seeing it in the video so that would be a problem for apple. The option to have one would be good though. I just want to see apple actually change something with their products. Oh well :P
Nicholas Cardenas Not to mention all the features that the note stylus allows. Its not just for tapping more accurately, its like having a desktop mouse but with even more functionality in some cases.
been using ipad air 2 for a month and i have to say it is an impressive piece of hardware, insane battery life and no overheating issue. but Apple didn't make full use of the 2GB RAM and powerful chip. no split screen multitasking and iTunes is just troublesome! and the mute button is removed for no practical reason!
