IAF was never enthusiastic about Tejas what they really wanted was the Tejas Mk2. Manohar Parikkar forced them to take 40 Mk1 + a compromise was arrived at for Mk1A. This is why every IAF chief keeps harping on MRFA. Unfortunately, they can't come out in the open and say that Tejas doesn't fit their requirement and they don't want it.

@@ayushraj627 That's what we think. If IAF was on board they would be expressing urgency to come up with Mk2, AMCA & even participate in ORCA (which is a twin-engined jet). However, all every IAF chief comes up with is the urgency to expedite MRFA.
I don't know about you but I feel there is a grudging acceptance for Tejas. Today if India announces a JV with Gripen with an intent to buy 200 of them - the IAF chief will have orgasms.

HAL has not delivered one MK 1A yet.
One correction that is very important- the price quoted to Indonesia was based on a third agency that was acting as the middle man. The deal with Indonesia also included 5 years of support, pilot training and technician training, plus MICA missiles, spares, spare engines, etc. India may not allow a middle man to be involved in this deal which may reduce the cost. Plus there are no other serious contenders to buy these Qatari Mirages given the smaller number of Mirage-2000 operators and the cost involved.

Also, wait to see what the IAF offers Qatar for these 12 Mirage-2000-5s. Remember that they were offered to the IAF more than a decade ago as well and back then the offer made by India was half of what Qatar expected and the deal fell through.
This is not a waste of money. We have 55 Mirage 2000s across 3 Sqadrons. Buying 12 Mirage 2000s from Qatar, will push our fleet number to 67 Mirage 2000s. So, during war time, we will have enough Mirage 2000s in reserve (considering IAF will retain 3 Mirage 2000 Squadrons with 18 fighters each, will leave us with 13 Mirage 2000s in reserve.)

To agar Mirages ko 10 sal nuclear/bomber/SEAD/DEAD Operation deployment role ke liye relevant rakhna hai to ye deal IAF ke liye jaruri hai.

Government should straight way reject the proposal. IAF want to waste taxpayers money on this outdated aircraft. IAF should be lead by a Navy officer. Higher officials of IAF are most incompetent and indecisive. They could have procure additional Rafael after receiving 36 aircraft as per agreement but they chose to ignore it.

If these are for spare parts then it's ok. But if it is to form squadron then I highly doubt if it makes sense. LCA mk1 is a point defence aircraft and its range is sufficient for this aspect.
