Talking about the John Deere LA

- Last weekend we held the annual Star Valley Antique Tractor show (by the Star Valley Historical Society). One of the tractors that was in the show this year was a John Deere LA. After the show, we brought the tractor to our place while we put everything away, so I took the opportunity to do a quick video with it. :)
The LA was a unique tractor in that it featured a vertical two-cylinder design with a foot clutch (along with its sister tractor the L). All other John Deere two-cylinder tractors at the time featured the horizontal two-cylinder design, which Deere would keep on all of their two-cylinders through the end of the two-cylinder design, with the exception of the tractors that followed the LA. Those tractors were the M, 40, 420, 430, and all variants, including the GM built engine in the 435 Diesel tractors.
The video also shows the LA next to the Farmall model B for size comparisons.
Anyway, the LA is a very fun little tractor with a unique place in Deere's history. - Авто та транспорт
Thanks I have an L also without the SN tag they were in a bad place and easily lost when people threw a chain around the rear axel to pull something. Mine has starter and lights. that is not the difference between L and LA as someone commented. Was originally used by the ND Highway Dept to mow roadsides. Remember seeing them when I was little. I think you miss identified the oil pressure gauge as the engine temp gauge. Fun little tractors. .
The smoke pool type combines had the same motor as an LA
Iv seen one with a sickle mower on it
Dad's has it on there. Pretty interesting.
I have an L, and the elevators correct for the LA. My elevator is the same thing no hydraulics they could’ve had a belt pulley. My doesn’t have one on the LA. They run the more underneath rubber off of the driveshaft.
I have a John Deere L but the LA had a starter and lights that the L didn’t have
It would be nice to try to find the correct "Cut out" relay for the generator, instead of that incorrect regulator in the video, looks real bad with that. If you want to have 12 volt, just install an alternator with built in regulator, thats all you need to do, the mag it does not matter, and the bulbs just need to be 12 volt as well, but they will still fit into the headlights ok.
One of your tractor drives into the hills or winter drives on the LA would be awesome. I have an LUC power unit, all the fun of that little twin, just closer to the ground.
Nice little tractor
Neat little tractor, we used to have a M JD, and a 320 JD, the 320 was Stolen
Does anyone grow corn in your area.
Um NO.
If indeed it has a tube frame it’s an “L” and not an “LA”…. read up on it.
The generator is as big as the engine 🤣
