  • Watch Zookeeper Jill work with Maxim, a 7-year-old Amur tiger. These kinds of training sessions include behaviors like sitting, laying down, opening his mouth and rolling over. Training helps strengthen the bonds between the tigers and their caretakers while also serving as practice for vet checks. Max is enjoying meatballs as a reward for participating.
Amur tigers are an endangered species. The Indianapolis Zoo supports the Amur Tiger Conservation Project's camera trap program which helps scientists gain insight into the lives of important populations. You can help protect the species by purchasing products that are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and by recycling electronics, like cell phones, which protects wild habitats by reducing the demand for mining precious metals.
