I'm literally a part of a small business that is seriously suffering due to this change. The only way we can get our name out there is through ads. Everyone knows about the big businesses already. But small businesses DEPEND on ads for people to know that they even exist! The advertising costs are rising drastically due to not knowing who to send ads to and it will be tough for some small businesses to survive because of it.

"WALLE.e" is, IMHO, among the best Sci-Fi films ever - and my list has 2001 and Solaris (the original Russian version). What makes us human is our Earth. In the movie, the humans living in that fully artificial world developed a view of things that was also disconnected from what being human is - while the robot that spent his days packing trash became human. The idea of "educate our kids" is problematic because it implies we can teach the subconscious using reason. That can't be done. Susan Sontag predicted, in the 1980s (I think) that with the popularization of photography a rise of narcissism in society. What really impressed me when digital cameras appeared was how people wanted to see how they looked in the photo right after it was taken - including young kids.

the targeted ads are being used as a form of militant propaganda. Every time I look for boring camping stuff - tents, birding binoculars, coolers, I start seeing all these insane survivalist commando and gun clothing ads.
To fair survivalist and camping gear kind of go together. It's not a perfect targeted system. It's that message you get from Facebook. Your friend is friends with so and so. You tents? These other tents like people also like this. Would you like to know more?
Yea, body image has been a "crisis" for generations. It's a problem, but the fix isn't fewer pretty things. It's education and acceptance. It's only an incredibly petty person who is destroyed by not being pretty.
For plastic surgery, I feel like there should be a minimum age limit of where someone can ask a surgeon to change their appearance without adult permission.
Though it should be specified to only apply to "unnecessary" surgeries. If a kid has a disfigured face because of an accident or something, they shouldn't be at the mercy of someone else.

The zoom bit is hilarious 😂
I like how the doctors are like, "So many teens are getting plastic surgery because they don't like how they look. So awful." But then do the surgery. SMERT Doc!
Thank you for the sincere ♡ felt episode on young people and the selfie-cult!!! Trevor, I know it was some serious pain that made you so sensitive, but we NEED your sensitivity! Thank you for being clear about the dangers facing young people. (Even though they won't have a liveable planet at age 30! Lol)
When you are offered something for free, understand that you(and your privacy) are their product.
That part. I haven’t had face book in about 3 yrs now.
I love your sense of humor and your gorgeous smile and I’m enjoying your videos.💕💕
the targeted ads are being used as a form of militant propaganda. Every time I look for boring camping stuff - tents, birding binoculars, coolers, I start seeing all these insane survivalist commando and gun clothing ads.
If you find a Decent Camp Stove, link me I need it for future Renaissance Faires.
To fair survivalist and camping gear kind of go together.
It's not a perfect targeted system. It's that message you get from Facebook. Your friend is friends with so and so.
You tents? These other tents like people also like this. Would you like to know more?
Him pulling out an ipad in front of bill gates is a power move. lol
Am I the only one who was thrown off by the audience laughing at the end?
Sounds so corny after a year of no forced laughter
That Spongebob part 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
the only time i’ve ever clicked on an ad is unintentionally
Algorithm got mighty confused when I was watching Bojack; all sorts of horse ownership ads.
That's hilarious!
@Smunstu Stinkymonster well now, that's finally sorted.
Since I started using apps, I have never been shown a small business add. It´s always big companies which can pay a higher price.
Yea, body image has been a "crisis" for generations. It's a problem, but the fix isn't fewer pretty things. It's education and acceptance.
It's only an incredibly petty person who is destroyed by not being pretty.
I once “filtered” a photo of myself, so I would look younger! 😂
a plastic patio chair makes a superior shower seat
Haha!
That chip segment is a little alarming. This is starting to get a little prophetic.
Excellent show. Thanks Trevor 😘
There was once I was talking to my family at living room. I even wasn't swiping my phone. Just a min later I turn on FB, an ad shows up about what I was just talk about
This happens so often that I'm getting used to it. 🤯
I wish anybody that makes money off of people's shame and misery would disappear forever. A girl can dream
I’m so glad I got rid of Facebook years ago. It has been extremely freeing. In so many ways.
As always, you are the best reporter! :]
Love Lizzo and that she is happy with her body size! She’s a great “role model” for others!💕💕💕
Roll model
She’s a great success story, not a role model
@@313Sonny Yes she’s a success bc she’s portrayed herself queen of morbid Ob”s”ity empowerment. Early death? Roll Model. Glazed, Triple Frosting pls.
@@blakesleyk.7166 Roll model; I see what you did there.
I also love how the word and prefix "cyber" entered our everyday language.
How have i seen this before? Its happening live but i remember everything. Wasnt this last night? Or the night before? Help! Gett'n' a lil' paranoid here 😬
Lol it's a rerun
@@sempressfi whew! Jesus. Thought I... i mean...you know...
Whew.
I really hope you took a photo each day of that hair growing.
Want to make a more anime eye? easy. You use black eyeliner. If done correctly your eyes will like 2x their size.
Print an anime character's face, wear it as a mask.
im a techy guy and i use social media, but i think it's clear the world would benefit from it's absence or at the very least a fresh start with a subscription based (0 ads, 0 tracking) model.
The video started buffering when I was a minute into the 5G segment. Ironic, isn't it. 😂
