A year ago I got a 2017 BMW S1000RR, your videos are the best I have found and I have seen "EVERYTHING" that could be found searching for our motorcycle model. I don't understand that with the quality with which you explain you don't have tens of thousands of people who follow you. Good job, I really like your videos.
hey cheers mate, thanks for the comments. I never worry about likes and subscriptions much, just happy to share info, and practice my video editing for my other businesses. Have fun.
I've had my bike since 2017 and have done lots of trackdays only on race. This video has shown me that I need to set user 1 for road and a user 2 for track to suit me. Brilliant video!! Cheers mate.
Great video mate, really helpful! I believe my bikes been stuck in rain mode and thanks to you I've changed the settings to get the full performance of this awesome 17 s1000rr model I have. I thought my bike was a dud knowing how powerful these bmws are. Cheers
Thanks mate you are great! I notice that in every mode you are able to adjust the DDC settings and even it stores them. When you switch throgh the modes you can adjust them individually. So can you double check and modify it in your document?
download the worksheet from the show notes mate, it will give you an idea of what you can do with user mode. Personally I think if it's your first time then put it in Race mode and go with that, can't go far wrong.
You can try starting with launch control if wheelies are a concern. Starting in slick mode without launch control just means you have to manually manage it with throttle and clutch release. There's a video on this channel about launch control if you aren't sure how to use it.
download the sheet from the video notes and it will show you how settings affect anti wheelie. Personally I choose mode based on traction control needs for whatever situation I am riding in rather than wheelie control. Your goals and mine are obviously a bit different as I am not a wheelie guy, so id recommend you listen to the Wheelie pros on settings. I did notice some sensible comments here in reply to your question.
@@MrBacardi72 fair point, I did say that, my personal preference is slick ABS which I prefer because of the late front wheel intervention (a carry over from my track preferences), it turns back ABS off which isn't an issue as I don't use rear brake at all if I'm pushing it. I know you kind of want to pin me down here but this is my personal preference ... maybe I shouldn't have used the word "efficient". And I do appreciate the questions mate, cheers
@@MrBacardi72 all good mate. You'll find most good track riders will turn off ABS completely on the track as it's a pain in the butt when it activates, it releases the brake and makes it hard to stop so we'd rather control lock up with the lever ourselves (front and rear). But as an intervention on the road, it's a great tool. For me on the road I love ABS in the wet, but for the dry I do not like the rear end ABS, I'd much rather get a lock up and control it than the bike intervening. Hope this lockdown isn't slowing your riding down as much as mine, perfect weather out there but we can't ride for a while unfortunately.
Hi, since I use the bike on the track, I still haven't figured out if the anti wheelie also works with slick and user maps. In practice, the bike on standard maps bounces while in the slick or user map the bike floats and does not bounce. But I don't understand if it's an electronic intervention or not. Thanks
Depends on what you are doing mate. I am not exactly sure of the details, but the main difference will be in how much intervention you get from the traction control. In slick mode you will be able to be more aggressive on the throttle at higher lean angles hence the term "slick mode" .. it was set up for slicks on track. To be honest, sport mode in my experience will do everything you need for street riding and give you that intervention you might need.
I am not a wheelie guy mate, love power wheelies on track but doing straight wheelies is not my skill set. I'd be asking the pros that question though I do know the lower mode settings are helpful for wheelies (i.e.rain and sport). I'd assume a pro wheelie person would put it in slick mode and get rid of wheelie control.
Launch control was designed to control how much power you have on launch for first two gears, wheelie control is active. Without launch control you have no wheelie control in slick and user mode when DTC is set to slick. You should download the PDF file that is linked in the video description, it explains all of the settings.
Hi Diego, you basically choose the MODE you want and front wheel lift detection is on in rain, sport and race, but turned off in slick mode or in user mode when you've set it up with SLICK DTC setting. Turning off ABS and DTC is done separately via the switch on the left handlebar.
The Bike Stig I'm sorry, maybe I didn't know how to ask correctly. I want to choose the level of the dtc, in which the rain, sport and race modules do not allow. In the user module, how do I configure to be able to control the dtc and leave anti welling enabled? would be: user-ingicao rain?
I know that the plug comes standard with the bikes but is not fitted. I also know that the plug is not specific to the bike it comes with .... so if you get a bike secondhand and the plug was not provided with it, a plug can be put into it and it will expand options to Slick and User mode. Check with the dealer and see what they say about your model bike.
I'm not sure about that, you'd have to talk to a BMW representative, I know it was possible on a KTM 1190 Adventure to install the ABS Pro with an update so I am guessing its possible on a BMW ...
Not sure what you mean with the question though it would be very unusual for anyone to change your user settings where you get the service without you being present. They'd probably do it if you told them exactly what you wanted though I'd prefer to do it myself.
The Bike Stig I just want know if anyone was have same doubt is it possible on the my bike just ECU software update and does fit my ABS unit for update
Hi I added the slick plug and nothing happened? It says everywhere that its plug and play and i got one from the dealer but its not showing user or slick when i start up?
The bike comes with the chip standard here in Australia and USA for all models, it's not fitted as they let the owner do that when you buy the bike new.
Im not sure mate, my suspicion is that the 2012 to 2014 models did not come with user mode, only the other 4 modes. You'd have to check that. I do know they made a big shift with the 2015 model and added electronics.

Download the PDF file which is linked in the comments section of this video and it will tell you what you'll actually see and be able to adjust.
I'd like to adjust my settings but keep anti wheelie enabled. If I select USER mode and put the DTC in RACE, does that mean my anti wheelie is still enabled? I know that SPORT is maximum anti wheelie, and RACE is moderate anti wheelie. Thanks
that 'max' area will have a number on the left and number on the right ... they are degrees of lean angle both sides. that's it ... if it hits 70 you are in trouble 🙂
