I could not agree with you more. There is a quiet but excited joy within to view one’s photographs in print. Love this vlog! And that is quite a regal looking photo of that buck! 👍🏼👌🏼
I love the way clients show there amazement at seeing the final image in a large print, it just proves that all that hard work we go to is totally worth it and shows that printing is definitely not a dying art. Well done Matt.
Great vid, you have some very handsome friends! ;) Honestly really appreciate getting to see the whole process end-to-end, it gives me even more appreciation for the awesome picture now on my wall!
Hahahaha I really do have some handsome friends... I should think about featuring them in a video one day maybe. Ha, and thank you fella, glad you enjoyed it :D.
Really enjoyed this Matt!! All of your points on why we should print our images are spot on! I’m going to take your advice and make some prints to enjoy. Great content as always. Cheers
Hiya Lisa! Glad you agree with the points. Brilliant to hear you are going to get some printed! There is nothing quite like it, I know you won't regret it 😁. Have fun and thank you for the kind words! 😊
“Gap filling” vid a definite plus, Matt! Story well told from image selection to final wall mounted/framed keeper. Points well made re:printing. Print-worthy images are but a small fraction of the “disposable” morass. Matting and framing are also lost arts for most enthusiasts. Interesting that method of “low res small print first” is how we used to do analog prints - “proof and contact sheets” before tries at larger image. We’re spoiled by ease of digital prints (as fussy as the process can be) compared to analog film and wet chemistries. (Sorry to hear about closure of your old photo shop employer.)
Hi Paul! Yeah I was lucky enough to work with some very experienced printers, including a gent who worked at an old school film print house until digital came in of course. Luckily, to my knowledge everyone is doing well that I used to work with, despite the closure. Thank you for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊
Nice work Matt.... 1st Class. A little saying we used to say at work when a good job was completed... "A thing of beauty and a joy forevermore " 🙂👍 regards.... Steve.
Great to hear a little more about printing. I find it so difficult to match my monitor calibration to my prints. Always end up printing two pictures of different exposures and go with that 😂
Completely feel your pain Matt! I tend to try and edit using the histogram as much as possible when editing for a print. But at the end of the day end up just winging it because it never looks right. I have just come to accept that as part of the process now 😂
Hi Matt, love this! I thinking printing is so important, living in the world of digital which is great but easy just to flick through. The physical aspect of being able to admire a great image on a wall takes you into that moment. To the point now where i now make my own frames from recycled wood when time allows . keep it up mate.
Great vid Matt! I often print my work and have a few pieces hung up around the house, whenever friends/family visit it can make a nice talking point and it really gives you a sense of achievement. I'm currently playing around with the idea of holding an exhibition in the next couple of years for my urban ballet photography so should be interesting times ahead 😁
Great to hear you get your stuff on the wall Greg! And definitely do it, exhibitions are so rewarding and such a learning opportunity! Thanks for watching and for the positive feedback!
Just came across your great channel today. Some great work. Your commentary is excellent! I just got my old A2 printer working again today after a break of 10 years and produced the first „test“ prints (nothing to compare with your terrific stag image though). For me the print is the tangible result of the photographic process and the only real way to view an image. Perhaps a little old school - am L showing my age? Keep up the good work.
When I bought my new place several years ago I had a number of my photos made into canvas prints which I prefer over printing on paper. There seems to be so many options now on how you want your images printed. With all that new wall space I was able to retire some older work and share some new stuff.
Ah nice, I havent printed too many of my prints onto canvas because its harder to do by eye and its more expensive. Glad to hear you are making the most of your wall space though :)
Matt, what a superb video, enjoyed every second of it, who knew so much went into making a print and also loved you telling us about the history of it all, how it began etc. Keep up the excellent work pal 👌
@@MattGouldphotography it was a very interesting watch. I always get a feeling you have alot of self doubt about your talent and skill, both as a photographer and blogger, when you have nothing to worry about, believe in yourself more, what you do is superb.
@@itztom3665 Thanks Ric thats super nice of you to say! Really appreciate it. I Always see my self doubt as a driving force in improvement so hopefully that will lessen over time :). Cheers for the kind words though fella!
Very interesting Matt. I've used framers quite a bit but not for my photography. They are very knowledgeable about colour correction etc but they also do a lit of sideline stuff for photographers like, turning their prints into cards which they sell to retailers and of cours calenders. A good revenue stream along with a nice print sale. And picking up from a comment on this video that yeah, you do seem to have a lot of self doubt. But you'll just have to blindly trust us that your professionalism is evident. Personally (can't speak for everyone) but I would watch you on TV alongside other nature programmes and wouldn't be able to detect the join mate. Genuinely. Why say it if I didn't think it? But utube is a fake environment where success is measured in clicks which mean nothing. As I said to another nature photographer vlog maker just days ago - keep adding content at a rate that keeps you happy and know that when it hits that sweet spot, everyone will binge on everything you have to offer. Use utube like a portfolio. People find someone they like and stick with them. Regular content becomes the new TV episode they crave. Really enjoyed this new direction too. Thank you Matt for bringing us along.
Hi Adam, firstly thank you for our really lovely and open comment, it really is appreciated. I think I do have self doubt as you say but in a way that I think pushes me to improve so hopefully it will decrease as time go's on. Saying you would be happy to see me on your tele box though is a big compliment so thank you. Who knows, maybe one day :D. At the moment I am really enjoying UA-cam though and I actually have a career related video coming up next that is very different so watch this space! :D Thank you again for the kind words!
Thanks for sharing your experience! Do I need to have a 100% RGB display to make prints? I'm looking for a laptop for photo editing which I'm gonna use as my primary computer...
If you are printing at home then I would say I don't have the experience unfortunately so couldn't tell you. However, if you are going to go to a professional printers then I would say potentially not. Good ones allow you to talk over the print and see it on their screen first to which they can usual make minor could adjustments.

So glad you agree Irene! It's almost like a child before Christmas, seeing it appear for the first time 😁. And thank you, really appreciated 😊
I really like these shorter how-to videos and the storytelling in this is really nice. :)
Wait, are you Hollie Busby from the radio?
Cheers Hollie :D. Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful shot and excellent points. Looking forward to more videos!

Great video. I love the natural reaction of this couple, at the end of the video. It just so wonderfully highlights what you were speaking about:)
Awww thank you so much! Yeah they were quite chuffed with it to be fair :).

Is the bed at the end the same as the bed at the beginning or is it just coincidence that they have the same duvet cover and headboard?
Ha, hi Keith. Yes, it just so happens that after filming most of this, I later moved into their spare room :D. Well spotted!
cool

At 2m34, how much cost this printer ? :)
Hiya, sorry but I have no idea :D. I know thats not very helpful. I believe its into the thousands though.
