    Once again, you've posted another miracle. My gosh these are just a treasure. Each one of these films highlights how period photographs and old herky - jerky moving pictures from 100+ years ago are nice, but seeing those people and the things they did in color, and in HD (seriously - has this been restored to 4k?) and -- most important of all -- with realistic human movements and cadences makes me see these people in a whole new way. Like friends and neighbors. Like co-workers. Like people you see and meet traveling around the world. The detail in the HD footage is fascinating not just because I'm seeing King Edward meeting the troops, but even more so because I can see other members of the English royal family rolling their eyes at what he's saying. That's just priceless! Thank you again!

    At 1:13, on the left of the frame, are Danish-born sisters Queen Alexandra and Maria Feodorovna, Empress of Russia and mother of Emperor Nicholas II. You can see them arriving at 0:38. Nicholas II can be seen at 1:08 to 1:10. That's probably Empress Alexandra Feodorovna at 1:04.

    As a Dane, this is fun to see. Our princes wear this type of old military jacket etc. on special occassions. We also have cavalry dressed as some of these gentlemen did back then. They ride along with the Queen’s carriage through the city sometimes in the summer.

    The Edward VIII the "uncle of Europe" , in his name knows " Edwardian Era " : was already the leader of a fashionable elite that set a style influenced by the art and fashions of continental Europe. The Edwardian period is sometimes portrayed as a romantic golden age of long summer afternoons and garden parties, basking in a sun that never set on the British Empire. This perception was created in the 1920s and later by those who remembered the Edwardian age with nostalgia, looking back to their childhoods across the abyss of the Great War . The Edwardian age was also seen as a mediocre period of pleasure between the great achievements of the preceding Victorian age and the catastrophe of the following war . Recent assessments emphasise the great differences between the wealthy and the poor during this period and describe the age as heralding great changes in political and social life.

    His majesty was rather on the portly side. He had waited quite a long time for his mother Queen Victoria’s reign to end which it finally did in 1901 upon her death. He did not have to wait as long as Prince Charles has, as his mother Queen Elizabeth Ii at 95 is still going strong for someone of her advanced age.

      Why is AI needed?

    • @libertyvilleguy2903
      @libertyvilleguy2903 2 роки тому +3

      I might suggest starting as follows: Peter Jackson’s “They Shall Not Grow Old” used some cutting edge technology to help improve the old WWI footage shown throughout the movie. Having enjoyed the movie immensely, I can say the footage was restored beautifully. Perhaps start with his production company and see what they used.

    • @KathrynsWorldWildfireTracking
      @KathrynsWorldWildfireTracking 2 роки тому

      @@dhalsim-1 It takes too long to do it by hand. Old film is either 24 or 29 frames per second. To hand-paint the imperfections out, you'd have to spend hours on each frame...and do 145 frames - just to get 5 seconds of restored film.
      (And that's just the dust and scratches.)
      Further work - involves stabilizing jumpy frames, reducing brightness that's too bright, brightening shadows that are too dark.
      Then - the truly damaged frames with large chunks missing - usually cannot be done by hand. It would take AI to think about what "should" be in missing frames.
      Like a man taking a step - the AI would analyze his gait, and draw in the missing part of the animation. It just really can't be done by hand. Not economically.

      It wasn't all civilized. Slums were numerous back then due to mass immigration and industrialization. If photos and news articles from the time are to be believed, they seemingly resemble the slums surrounding Rio de Janeiro today.
      Of course the conditions in the colonies could be similarly bad, though that varied between the colonial powers, some being worse than others.
