Just focus on your degree and increasing skillset. Competitive exams has very unpredictable nature. You should have a strong back up before entering into this preparation

Start with NCERTs... Most of the time people jump to standard books and once you read these books you will realise that Spectrum or Laxmikant are more like notes less like book. You will easily able to get good facts but conceptual clearity will be missing in that... For example there is a question on the definition of State in prelims 2021. If you have just read laxmikant you will face trouble in giving answer to that but if you have read std 11 NCERT you know the concept you know the answer.... So the ideal preparation should be starting with NCERTS and then going to standard books 📚.
