Guizhou and Yunnan are all mountainous areas. They used to be the poorest areas in China. Now these two provinces are the areas with the highest density of highways and the most bridges in China. Because of the improvement of transportation, these areas have become the areas with the fastest economic growth in China. I have driven almost all those bridges in Guizhou. You don't feel any fear when driving on the bridge because it's just a highway.

I grew up crossing the golden gate bridge and the sanfransisco/oakland bay bridge. Both these bridges are hundreds of feet from the water surface and take like five to fifteen minutes from end to end. With earthquakes being so common here it really is scary. There's very little chance of surviving a three hundred foot fall.

I don't do bridges very well myself. When I was a kid my father liked to go across bridges with the car. At the Apex, he would always stop the car, and tell us to get out of the car to look over the side of the bridge. (read: Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, the Sunshine Skyway in Tampa, and a few others.) If he were alive today, I think he'd have a heyday with this list. I don't think I would do very well, looking over the sides of any on this list for sure.

I've driven number 9 before. There's a bridge that crosses the Pontchartrain that is kind of shady too lol. What makes me look twice is that those kinds of bridges get very low and close to the water.... Which makes me wonder what happens during hurricanes

I used to cross the Sunshine Skyway on a daily basis. It's a beautiful drive. I walked out to the end of the old bridge where it collapsed before they tore it down and it was VERY scary.

So let me get this straight: structural engineers tell you that a bridge is unsafe, but government officials say that is not true. Structural engineers went to school for this. They got degrees in this. They have many years experience in this. They've built bridges and other structures. But some how politicians decided after the bridge is built that they know better than the experts who built it? Now that's terrifying!

I remember as a child when the sunshine skyway bridge collapsed and as a young adult living near the new sunshine skyway bridge , I had to cross it twice a day to attend the Bradenton police academy.
Nowadays I own a really nice boat and fish near the bumpers of the new bridge where there is remarkable fishing for snapper and grouper amongst other great fish. I currently reside about 15 minutes from the bridge today.

I have driven over & under the Milau bridge in France not long after it opened - awesome ! - there is also a visitors centre worth visiting. I believe the bridge was designed by an English company & constructed by the same company that built the Eifle Tower.

Not any modern bridge is terrifying! The most terrifying bridges are steel bridges that are not maintained and completely rusty, waiting to collapse.
Btw when it comes to big frightning suspension bridges, you may include the Akashi Kaikyo bridge in Japan, which has one of the tallest towers (283 meter) and longest total span in the world (2 km main span, 3,9 km total).

If you also include rail bridges, then there is Chenab bridge across Chenab river. It's an arch bridge at a height of 359 m above river. It's 1315m long.
