If you can get a DVD copy, and listen to the audio commentary by the three main people who were in charge of making it, they talk about how the studio forced them to release it earlier than they wanted to. They actually talked about how bad the “Planet Bob,” looked at the end of the movie and wished they had more time and money to complete it. I didn’t think someone could down play they’re work and studio the way they did.
This movie, Treasure planet, polar express and atlantis the lost empire are my litteral childhood, I forgot about all those movies and now Im just getting waves of memories, im getting old dude lol
My daughter is 3 and she likes atlantis and she can watch treasure planet. She hasn't got into titan a.e. yet. I attempt to have her watch unique animations. Not just pixar and disney.
My dad and I went to this in theaters. The theater had barely any people, mostly men 10 years older than I, at the time. But I remember being very disturbed and scared by the first five minutes of the film-Earth blowing up. Like, no one had done it nor has anyone ever tried to since.
Fun fact! "Planet Ice" was the codename developed at Fox for why they were working on building CGI models of icebergs (for "Titanic"). Had they announced it was based on a public domain historical event, someone else could have beat them to it. Legend has it that some Fox executives demanded "Planet Ice" be a movie, which is why there's that planetary ring of ice crystals to stealth chase through at the end.
I believe the takeaway is that if you want to market a movie for male teenagers then maybe don't make your main character look like the love interest of a princess movie :)
Also don't make the Film PG when you show a brutal death on screen for the whole sequence. Thats definitely PG-13 and would attract more teenage audiences... that and also don't release a movie when there is a massive popularity boom in television shows.
OMG, you have no idea how much I LOVED this movie as a kid. It struck such a cord with me that it inspired an entire of fascination with space and science fiction when I was barely 11 years old. I became fascinated with the idea of how to terraform planets. I began reading books on space colonization, planetary formation, how to make algae to produce oxygen, Martian volcanism, then that branched out to how to power such a thing with research on neutron stars and fission. It introduced to me the idea of energy-based being years before I saw my first episode of Star Trek. SO so many things from this one film that sadly did poorly at the box office. WHich is such a shame because there was the grounds of a thriving world to explore! Could you imagine if this was a series? All the worlds we could have seen? I ADORED this movie and I still enjoy it to heck.
Dude this movie makes me feel feelings of nostalgia and a need for space adventure that only it can produce. The way it looks and the ideas of the character and world design are just awesome
It's so much fun watching your videos because half the time it's my exact opinion articulated beautifully, and the other half it's an entirely new experience/introduction/idea being presented 😃 everytime you upload I rush to watch bc i know its guaranteed to be the most interesting thing I'll watch all week
This has always been a comfort movie of mine. When I got sick as a kid one day and the next I remember this movie playing on my TV and from there it held a special place in my heart.
I saw this movie in theaters as an 8 year old when it came out, and it was the craziest cartoon film i had ever seen. I had only seen Disney up until this point. What's funny is my aunt took a bunch of us to the movies to see Disney's Dinosour. My older cousin though, who was 12, didn't want to see that at all. She pointed to this movie playing next door, and said she was going to watch this one since they started around the same time. Then she asked me if i wanted to see this one instead with her. Because my aunt didn't want her in the theater alone and no one else in our small group wanted to see this. So I went next door to see this as well. There was barely anyone in the theater, as I remember, and i had no idea what this was going to be about. As soon as it started, it just left me speechless. Like my jaw was dropped by the first act. My childhood self had never seen something something so cool. I have always enjoyed and loved this film, from that first moment. Ironically, the film Dinosaur, which everyone else went to see, also has a beginning similar to this one.
If nothing else, I’ll always remember the opening scene of Earth being destroyed. the a Titan crashing through the launch bay doors, the fighter escort, the explosion itself, and the debris smashing into the escape vehicles along with the moon are all fantastic details! Bleuths talent shined through in that scene
Are you gonna give Land Before Time second chance, after all the years. Because I watch that movie, even more than any of the Disney movie when I was a kid. And how about my favorite movie of all the time, The Prince Of Egypt?
I have the exact opposite problem I liked the movie. Ducky was my fav. After learning what hat to her Young VA after filming but before release, I can't bear to watch It again
The movie began with the destruction of Earth and ended with the creation of a new Earth. Watching the planet being born still gives me chills. It was great to see a movie climax with creation and not destruction.
@@kennethdickinson2591 Technically WoK only features the birth of a planet though, whereas T:AE starts with another's destruction. That said... the Titan & the Genesis device have basically the same purpose, only delivered via different means... though Genesis's results prove unstable... plus it also has utility as a weapon because it destroys all existing life in its blast radius.
Maybe not the best movie ever, but hugely underrated. Exactly like The Treasure Planet or Atlantis. Movies trying to also appeal boys, other than girls, and/or to be just a little bit more "adult" than your regular fairy tale ("Oh, no...Is that a drop of blood?!"). Completely misunderstood and trashed by the critic and audience of their time that were looking for just another musical with a pretty princess singing beautiful songs. The Atlantis team's motto, "Fewer songs, more explosions", really describes what these movies were trying to achieve and why they flopped so bad at release, while becoming almost cult for kids of my generation.
I loved Titan Ae thought it was interesting how certain scenes appeared as if there were 3d element along with the 2d element and how they made these two feel seamless together as a whole
I watched Titan A.E. in the cinema when it came out and bought the movie when it came out in DVD. So, it's pretty obvious that I love the movie. It kind of reminded me of Star Wars but in this case, it's not about training to be a Jedi but to activate a space machine that can act like earth for the humans, which is something I've been searching the answer for since my childhood (yes, I was science fiction geek). Although the idea of a machine that can function like earth with plants and soil on it is in a way highly unlikely, it's still a pretty interesting idea and the action in this movie doesn't let up. There's hardly any downtime. I'm so glad there are others who loved it as much as I did.
I like not only movie, but a review itself. You find some things you don't like about the movie, you talk about them, but you do it with respect and understanding. And then you find something to praise and talk about it too. Thank you for the video, it was nice to see it from another persons point of view.
I remember someone showing me this movie when I was around 11. Looking at it now, I think it is a classic that paved the way for sci-fi movies, and you can tell that despite all the stressors the creators put their hearts into making this. But at the time I was salty because the person who showed it to me assured me there was no death, and so now I mostly remember all the death scenes and feeling betrayed...
I live in Costa Rica and until today we have Disney Plus available. I paid the service mostly to watch again this movie. I watched it at the cinema with my Dad when I was 12 and love it! But my today's surprise... even on D+ they don't have it... :(
The Titan AE ost is still in my repeat playlist in 2024. Songs like Come back down to earth and the Fun loving criminals track, also Reggae survivor are amazing. The soundtrack is waaaay more a home run for me than "a miss"
Titan AE was the first movie that took my breath away as a kid, back in the day. Yes, I love space but it wasn't just that, the movie was rough edged and it was moving into uncharted territory which was much ahead of it's time. Much like CGI space movies of today it had the power and immense potential to be an inspiration for 3D Cinema and world building. Much like what we see in realistic games today. The movies crown jewel was the Titan itself and it's connection with the boy, like a gift from Father to son during his passing, protecting him. I still feel it in my spine, the capabilities of what the Titan can do and how something like that can inspire innovation for young generations to come. I guess my only wonder since the last 23 years was why that such a captivating storyline never got remade, with good casting, directing and harnessing today's visual tech, I see it as a missed opportunity.
uhm, the soundtrack was the cherry on top for me, it was absolutely one of the elements that made it awesome for me: it's my turn to fly cosmic castaway over my head like lovers not quite paradise c'mon...
I was 14 when Titan AE came out and I - already a fan of both Star Wars and Heavy Metal - absolutely loved it. I still have that nostalgic love for it and watch it every once in a while. I think nearly all the CGI still looks great, except most unfortunately for that last sweeping shot of Planet Bob’s landscape.
I was 24 when this movie came out, and I must have watched it 3 or 4 times while it was in theaters. Partially just to relax and blow time. I liked most of the soundtrack, the story was good, and it had some great visual sequences.
I saw this when it came out I was 20 and loved it and introduced so many people to it, the way I sold it to them is told them not to see it as an animated film but a film that (at the time) would cost too much to make in live-action, they agreed and loved it too. Its a massively underrated film.
Oh, jeez, I really like your vdeo format! It's entertaining and you make good jokes (or maybe I just giggle easily). I just wish you got more viewers! Anyway, I actually watched Titan A.E. as a kid, and I liked it! Since I was a child I have always loved Sci-Fi movies like Treasure Planet, I also remember that I liked Atlantis: The Lost Empire a lot! PD: Imagine the supwebowl without the Earth.
I was super into space as a kid, so when I saw the ads for this movie, I FREAKED. We couldn't afford to see it in theaters, but we rented it as soon as it was available... aaaaand my mom turned it off pretty quick. I guess it wasn't appropriate for little'uns.
I say Masterpiece. It was a lot better than pretty much anything else Animated at the time. When everyone else was Dumbing things Down, this dude was making some Classics.
this movie means a lot to me. My dad showed me this movie as a kid & he passed away right after. Thge daddy issue in this movie I related to and the whole movie is just great in my opinion.
I loved this movie so much as a kid and still do! You articulated so much of what made it special beautifully. Thank you for shining a spotlight on this underrated, unknown, beautiful art piece!
It's funny Titan A.E. and Treasure Planet are similar or I realized days ago, because both have humans and aliens in it, but not same planets, there is earth in Titan A.E., but Treasure Planet does not show any earth right? It's interesting that Titan A.E. came first 2 years before Treasure Planet, but I didn't have an obsession with Treasure Planet at all after seeing it years ago, but recently Titan A.E. which I find it more interesting or it interests me then Treasure Planet instead so Titan A.E. became my obsession, I watched the beginning of Titan A.E. once years ago, but Treasure Planet once too the whole thing years ago, but I just finally get to watch Titan A.E. in full film finally last Saturday, I did not watch the whole Treasure Planet movie in years, but I did thought I wish I had seen Titan A.E. in full film many years ago instead of only the beginning as a kid.
I remember finding this movie in the cupboards when I was like 5. It was like some special treasure because it didn't have a case or anything and it looked like it was made for adults. I lost the movie but I loved it so much when I was little
I do wonder if this is one of the movies that could really benefit from a remake in the near future. I saw Titan A.E. in the cinema as a kid, and I've always had a soft spot for it, but I can't deny that there are quite a few pacing issues and it's a film where I don't really know which demographic it's trying to push for. Something like a short-run miniseries could work wonders for it, even if it wouldn't have that super slapping late 90s/early 00s soundtrack.
My mom and I actually saw this movie in the theater the day it premiered. I liked it except for the fact that Cale named the new planet Bob when he should have named it either New Earth or Titan, as the spaceship was named.
I REALLY liked how Titan A.E. Wasn’t a saving the Earth plot. In the opening moments, this movie let the audience know very early on that this isn’t a traditional story. Earth is destroyed and the terrifying alien force is a lingering threat to every race, not just the remnants of humanity.
I never realized the same guy made all of these. The only Disney movie that came close to any of his movies for me was The Great Mouse Detective....which I wouldn't be surprised to learn he was involved with.
I remember this movie strongly influencing my imagination and creative ideas of space and sci fi stories. You are absolutely right about it's status as a timepiece for animation and sci-fi. I feel like space and sci-fi had a very wild west feel to it in those days. Who didn't want to be cruising through the stars with your crew of misfits and a wacky turtle scientist?
Titan A.E. was the first Don Bluth movie I ever watched, and I'm fairly certain it was responsible for sparking my love of sci-fi from a young age. The movie is far from perfect, but I think that adds to its charm. It just makes you wonder what could have been had it been properly marketed and Fox Animation hadn't gone under. Also, the Valkyrie (Korso's ship) is probably the most beautiful spaceship design I've ever seen.
As a person who has trouble picking v favorites for anything. I use this movie as my choice for favorite. Mostly nostalgia, some genuine affection, a lot of I know few people would challenge me for an argument I don't v care about.
I grew up with this movie and didn't come across treasure planet until almost a decade later when trying to describe Titan to a friend of mine. Titan A.E. really meant a lot to me because it wasn't common for me to experience a main character I could relate to as a child. It was usually an I wish I was them sort of situation but in Titan A.E., I was the main character thrust into a fanciful science fiction scenario. Cale was a blond haired main character that grew up without his father and that was something that I had never seen before in children's or young adult films at the time. I didn't realize it until a recent rewatch but I had pretty much emulated his life as my own over the years, even down to the shitty haircut in my 20's. This will always be one of my favorite films and I will always say that treasure planet was a lucky rip off.
(I haven't seen Treasure Planet... But... is anyone else bothered by the character designs- and by this I mean that no one has a cranium? I feel like I'd actually like the movie, but I can't seem to get over humans with a braincase that cannot contain a whole brain.)
Feeling discouraged from watching a movie because the animation style freaks you out is definitely A Mood; but I'm a huge Treasure Planet fan and I'll say it's definitely worth watching!
@@DrawpinionDump Agreed, and both movies have such a different aesthetic and tone that I never considered comparing their story beats until you did early in this video. Then I laughed my ass off, that was amazing. But I really appreciate how they are so different that they don't step on each other's toes. Both are top tier space adventures.
I always used to mix up this movie and Treasure planet for some reason. Nonetheless this movie is honestly really good, granted it has flaws but I always have a fun time revisiting this movie.
@@drymeee yes it beat the other in speed but didnt meet the flare the other had. Disney won due to being able do do some editing with their story line and leaving the other come out first.

Bold of u to assume we dont want a cover of once upon a december
This movie, Treasure planet, polar express and atlantis the lost empire are my litteral childhood, I forgot about all those movies and now Im just getting waves of memories, im getting old dude lol
My daughter is 3 and she likes atlantis and she can watch treasure planet. She hasn't got into titan a.e. yet.
I attempt to have her watch unique animations. Not just pixar and disney.
Basically my top favorite childhood movie, was devastated to later learn it was considered a total failure
"Some movies that are OK at best"
*shows poster of "Rock a Doodle"
Them's fightin' words, Missy....
I remember nothing of Rock A Doodle other than that I always thoroughly enjoyed it as a kid.
they definitely are lol
My dad and I went to this in theaters. The theater had barely any people, mostly men 10 years older than I, at the time. But I remember being very disturbed and scared by the first five minutes of the film-Earth blowing up. Like, no one had done it nor has anyone ever tried to since.
“I hated the Land Before Time as a kid”
So you have chosen *DEATH*
I loved the Land Before Time when I was little, but I recently rewatched the first movie, and it is DRAMATICALLY different than the follow-up movies.
Although it just gives me alantis vibes as well.
Also don't make the Film PG when you show a brutal death on screen for the whole sequence. Thats definitely PG-13 and would attract more teenage audiences... that and also don't release a movie when there is a massive popularity boom in television shows.
@@francisharkins when was their a massive popularity boom in television shows?

I saw it on tv as a kid it was awesome
Honestly, I prefer Titan AE over Treasure Planet.
Agree.
Aaw, that's so nice of you!! I'm glad my ideas resonate with you jdsfdhjf
Prince of Egypt is rad!
Childhood faves! LOVE dinosaurs, even as a kid! ^^
You should check out “Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan,” if you haven’t already.
This soundtrack gets very early 2000s but I always loved the song that plays after the 15 year time skip lol it really does slap
This movie still has a strong cult following.
Even if a lot of people hate it, I hope we can ALL agree that it has a sick soundtrack.
Yes. *bops to cosmic castaways over and over again thinking back to 2019 when I obsessed over it*
I had loved so many of Don's works. Anastasia and Titan a.e were two that I rewatched countless times over. And it's so cool to see them get some love
This was one of the few VHS movies in my house. I'm glad people have heard or enjoyed it like I have.
If you've seen it you know how great it is.
I live in Costa Rica and until today we have Disney Plus available. I paid the service mostly to watch again this movie. I watched it at the cinema with my Dad when I was 12 and love it! But my today's surprise... even on D+ they don't have it... :(
Awesome awesome awesome video! Filled with interesting information, deep analysis, funny and... with a great final scene :-)
The Titan was basics a high tech version of Noah's Ark.
That summary at the beginning made me realize why I love both Titan AE and Treasure Planet that much.
I saw this film in theaters when I was a kid. I forgot most of the plot beats since then, but the striking visuals really stuck with me.
uhm, the soundtrack was the cherry on top for me, it was absolutely one of the elements that made it awesome for me:
it's my turn to fly
cosmic castaway
over my head
like lovers
not quite paradise
c'mon...
I watched this as a kid - I got the VHS for my 8th birthday and I rewatched it a lot and loved it.
I saw this when it came out I was 20 and loved it and introduced so many people to it, the way I sold it to them is told them not to see it as an animated film but a film that (at the time) would cost too much to make in live-action, they agreed and loved it too. Its a massively underrated film.
Believe it or not I was named after a character in this movie because my mother adored this movie so much
this is incredible, you have been blessed
(Also, which character? If you dont mind sharing)
The holly trinity of underrated animated movies is Titan AE, Atlantis and Treasure planet
I loved Titan A.E as a kid and I love it now. It’s so hard to find a chance to watch it though.
I remember watching this multiple times as a kid. Only remembered that it existed today.
Disney now owns Titan After Earth since they own 20th Century Fox!
Watched this as a kid till the tape was to far gone! Most people never heard of it but was my favorite movie along with the purple people eater!
I never realized the same guy made all of these. The only Disney movie that came close to any of his movies for me was The Great Mouse Detective....which I wouldn't be surprised to learn he was involved with.
i remember watching this when i was a kid and hating Korso and loving the rest of the crew. This movie had me captivated back then.
dude make that Anastasia video
I grew up with both Anastasia and Titan AE. They were some of my favorite films as a kid. Right up there with Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away
I daydream about this exact scenario at least 3 times a week
Titan A.E. was the first Don Bluth movie I ever watched, and I'm fairly certain it was responsible for sparking my love of sci-fi from a young age.
I think you got one of its key flaws right there!
@@DrawpinionDump Treasure Planet is quite the hitter!
The movie honestly hit all of what it was trying to do. But it was destroyed by it's own company. Treasure Planet was done just the same by Disney.
WooooooW, now we’re really going back to our childhood memories haven’t seen this movie in ages💖
I always used to mix up this movie and Treasure planet for some reason. Nonetheless this movie is honestly really good, granted it has flaws but I always have a fun time revisiting this movie.

To me, the beginning made absolutely no sense. It's like starting a Super Mario or Legend of Zelda game with Hyrule or the Mushroom Kingdom getting nuked.

Wouldn't mind if Disney remade this movie with either Old school animation or Computer 3D animation style and with an extended storyline / run time.
