For anyone curious, here is a BETTER translation of what they said in elvhan than what the game gave. Do better EA. When your fans know the language better than you that's REALLY BAD. When Mythal Frees Solas from servitude the inquisitor kneels at his feet and says: Inquisitor: Banal nadas ar lath'ma vehn'an (This is echoing what he said to her in inquisition, at least the last part is.) The game translates it to "There is no fate but the love we share" (No clue where they got this cause it's only vaguely close) What it ACTUALLY translates closer to is "Nothing is certain. I love you, my heart." If they wanted to mention fate then they SHOULD have said something more like " Ghilanas tel nadas ar lath'ma vehn'an" Lit: "Fate is uncertain. I love you, my heart." Anyway, next part. when she tells Solas he doesn't have to go alone he says: Solas: "Ar ghilas vir banal." The game translates this to "Where I am going is terrible." Lit translated it's closer to "The path I'm following goes to nothingness, destruction, emptiness, void, abyss, darkness, take your pick of any of these words. If they wanted to say it is "terrible" then they could have used "telamaan" which is lit "horrible" or "telam'ala" lit "worst" so "Ar ghilas telamaan" Lit : "Where I go is horrible" Inquisitor: "Tel banal ara'ma vir shiral ma'lasa belanaras" The game translates her response as "It won't be terrible if you're with me. We make this journey together, always." Which isn't bad, but the prefix "ara" is "Mine" possessive and the word "ma" is "you" she's essentially telling him "you are mine" A BETTER word to use would have been "saron" as it means "together as one" so "Tel banal saron vir shiral ma'lasa belanaras" would be the more ROMANTIC way to say she wanted to go with him. "shiral" is a lifelong, important, journey or adventure vs "vas" which is a brief journey. "ghilas" is "to go" such as: on a path, but "dara" is "to go" as in : to go through or pierce something; and "ghi'las" is "you guide" because "ghi'lan" is the word for "a guide" so at the end of trespasser when the inquisitor originally asks to go with Solas she tells him "Ma ghi'lana vehn'an" She literally asks him "will you guide me, my heart" "Vir" is "path" but can also mean "journey" in the metaphysical sense" thus why "vir" and "vas" are similar but in this case "vir" is being used in the metaphysical sense and that's why you see "vir shiral" side by side because if you translated that to english it would LIT be journey journey or path lifelong adventure which neither one makes sense so in the inquisitor's sentence vir is being used to emphasize that their journey is just as much a physical one as it is a metaphysical one. and "ma'lasa" is actually "you grant" so here she is asking him to grant her permission to go with him because the "me" is implied by the earlier use of either the words "ara'ma" or "saron" So a more Literal translation is actually more like: "Not nothingness if we are together as one. Allow me to journey this path with you, forever." TLDR; Game translation: Inquisitor: "There is no fate but the love we share" Solas: Where I am going is terrible. Inquisitor: It won't be terrible if you're with me. We make this journey together, always." Actual translation: Inquisitor: Nothing is inevitable. I love you, my heart. Solas: The path I'm following leads to nothing. Inquisitor: Not nothing if we are together. Allow me to take this journey with you, forever.
Thanks! I felt like the translation was off considering the way elven translated in first 3 games. This is really pathetic. We know more about dragon age than the developers. Ugh! This hurts muh heart.
I don't understand why players think Mythal and Solas had a romance. In Trepasser he speaks of her as if she were the mother of all the elves. In Veilguard she calls him "My Love", but Bellara immediately explains that elves interpret these words differently and in the end we learn that she has only ever manipulated and used him. The ancient elves call Solas "Mythal's lapdog" and in the end Mythal finally dismisses Solas from the service he has held for thousands of years for her. That doesn't sound very romantic to me
@@rekettyes8453it’s not even really filling in the blanks. We knew a lot of this from inquisition. It’s just a lot of fake fans that don’t read lore entries or read between the lines. It’s always the tourists that come in here and try to bad mouth the game when it’s actually a very well crafted story.
I think it’s similar to Leliana and Divine Justinia… that along with the scene with the companions where Taash jokes that they were doing it. People love to look at things that way and I think the writers played on that. Even in this scene, he says “my oldest friend”. Solas would have been transparent in both Trespasser and in this scene, I think, if the nature of their relationship was that of romantic love.
To be honest I thought the same thing. I don’t see them as lovers. I see it more as him being a servant like a devoted, religious follower who failed his creator but the tone in the writing is so inconsistent that in the first part of the game it sounds like he was simping for Mythal. It definitely ruined the reunion between Inky and him when she showed up at the end but I think it is for the best because now he can move on and forgive himself. This is ultimately when he could begin the best version of himself. I think personally this is a view I have now in my 30s but if I had seen this in my 20s then I would have a completely different perspective. I didn’t play DAI 10 years ago and only played it this year along with the rest of the DA game but I can see why many Solavellans are upset because this is what they get after the 10 years wait.
@@TidyGamer21I agree with you and yes, you're right, it could also be due to age. When Mythally shows up, Solas seems like a frightened child who is used to being punished.Mythal releases him, he can finally heal you absolutely right here too, but I think for a lot of Solas fans it's shocking how much power she had over him. In Inquisition, Solas was always about the elves and their world, but in Veilguard everything now seems to be all about Mytal However, I have already read some fan opinions that don't understand what Bioware wants to show with this, because it seems as if the perpetrator is going his own way and the victim is being punished.
After 10 years we get this 5 minute scene... i am so disappointed Veilguard should have been a continuation of DAI... the story wasn't over, definitely for these two.... so sad
Agreed that I much much much rather would have continued Inquisitors story. I remember being bothered by the community being against that idea. Seems like most ppl wanted a new thing. Hope they are happy with the new game :
@darthdracul8372 I understand what you're saying, but some of the world state of veilguard has nothing to do with some people's choices in DAI. I get you can't please anyone, but some things are just bad.
I really wanted a happy ending for the Solavellan route I played, but this is still a bit sad for my reader and writer heart. I can say I appreciate what they did as a game, but it doesn't feel like the Thedas I helped shape throughout Origins to Inquisition. It made everything my Warden, Champion and Inquisitor did feel worthless. They would be out there fighting to hold the world together in their own corner, not letting it all fall apart. I'll go back and replay Origins, 2, & Inquisition, read some good fanfics, then write something as well.
...Wut? First - Hof's story has been done in DAO and they're free to fight their smaller battles, while not being involved withe very crisis. Same with Hawke. And Inquisitor isn'tr actually so much in the game, SPECIFICALLY because they're fighting to hold the world together in their own corner (South and Free Marches) and we hear it from them when we meet them, as well as correspondence they share with Rook that informs them what happens with regions we've visited in previous games. Like, I don't get it. Do people really judge what happens in the game based ONLY on an ending?
Idk, I feel they sullied Solas' character and his romance with the Inquisitor by centering Mythal as his main motivation. He was a compelling character because he was morally grey. Here he contradicts his DAI characterisation many times (even as early as the dialogue about blood magic) and became a standard villain with a god complex. This revelation actually made him so much less interesting by effectively removing his autonomy that I get the impression they have fundamentally misunderstood his character, or at the very least, his appeal. And the beauty of his romance with the Inquisitor was the tragedy of yearning for a love so great that it transcended (im)mortality, time and space. After 10 years Mythal steamrolled all of that. The execution ie dialogue and body animations made it A LOT worse. How this part played out made the Inquisitor feel so much like an afterthought for Solas that you forget that this is the same romance from Crestwood. They can make small improvements in the execution with patches but nothing can be done to change overarching narrative. Still, it isn't safe holding onto hope with Bioware lol
Also what bothers me is the fact that in the Inquisition Flemeth who was carrying a piece of Mythal Morrigan now has, was screaming about getting Mythal avenged and that "a reckoning that will shake the very heavens" is coming... What happened to that?
@pativi6643 so its poorly explained in the game. During Flemeth's "death" in inquisition, you see her seal a wisp of something off into the mirror as Solas is walking up. That wisp, while poorly explained, was her memories. Just enough to allow her to live on, knowing Solas came for her life force. Morrigan somehow get ahold of this wisp and now holds her memories, not her soul as explained sevral times when rook calls her Mythal
@@ladysintophatswtf7287 So what happened to the piece of Mythal that was screaming about getting avengened and looking for the reckoning that will shake the very heavens? This piece just doesn't exist anymore? Also in that case, how in the last regret and biggest regret of Solas - how does Mythal still speaks to him about all of what he wants to do, if just beforehand she send her memories to Morrigan. Not to mention this scene and the implication of the dialogue are completely different at the end of the Inquisition and in that mural.
@pativi6643 Solas now carries that peice, it's taken from her. I explained in my first message that the memories were not just given to Morrigan, but hidden away before Solas arrived. It is also shown during his regret murals that they are his interpretations of the events, sticking true to his spirit/fade theme. While the cutsceen in inquisition is short and to the point, it's shown that before killing Flemeth and taking Mythal's essence, they do have brief a conversation. Mythal's essence, and the wisp of her memories are two separate things. You may want to go back and rewatch Flemeth's death, then listen to Morrigan speak repeatedly of only holding Mythal's memories, not her essence.
someone on reddit said it's like Cursed Child. I hear the names, but I can't see the characters. it's so jarring. these are not the same people, it's not the same world. so sad.
I agree that generally the game does not feel like a real DA universe and Bioware messed up. However, while managing this channel, I also realized that the negativity spreads even to things that are done well, which just ruins the experience for real fans. This is a sad, beautiful scene. There are things some people might personally want or not want to see, but that's just personal preference. Objectively and in contrast to the whole game - it was done well though.
Many say that Morrigan is not like the Morrigan they know....and that is correct and as it should be. This Morrigan has inherited the Soul of Mythal and her Knowledge, and the Knowledge of all who carried Mythal before her, including Flemeth. At the end you hear even a bit of Flemeth´s Voice in her. While DA Veilguard could be better...i like this Ending.
I liked the ending. I think people would understand it more if they went through personal loss. You understand the wish to turn things back ... but eventually realising it will never be that way anymore.
It feels like something isn’t connected quite right in my opinion. Solas from inquisition doesn’t seem the type to blindly devote himself to Mythal to this extent after she became god just for the sake of loyalty. And if he was so devoted to her like shown in the Veilguard why did he kill her at the end of trespasser?
@@greenbrownblue I don't feel like that is the issue here since regardless of the previous importable relationship with the Inquisitor Solas would pursue the goal to tear down the veil anyway, so that could not be a major factor. Also, previous choices like who drank from the Well (Morrigan/Inquisitor), etc, has been completely ignored in the Veilguard altogether, so it feels disconnected, like the story was supposed to have been much more in-depth, and the endings could have panned out in many more ways than we currently end up with.
@KoKoaKate you don't think he was "evil" up until the Inquisitor changed his heart? I am gonna upload alternative endings and in those endings Solas feels like a true antagonist.
@KoKoaKate agreed about the story of the game being not that great. It could have been more interesting - we finally went to Tevinter after all. The game is massive, kinda like bg3. But bg3 feels like a way more confident production that doesn't need to drop massive lore spoilers every 2 h to remain interesting. With datv it feels like they had so little confidence in what they were making that they were trying to lore drop to keep players excited.
@@greenbrownblue I actually think he is a well-intentioned man who did evil deeds as opposed to being purposefully evil. The concept of evil for me is never straightforward and depends on whose lens it is we are viewing their actions from. Even the most saintly characters will somehow end up committing some selfish deeds along the way. That is what adds more depth to Solas in inquisition for me. He was extremely conflicted character which makes him so much more interesting and magnetic. As to whether the Inquisitor managed to change his heart or not, I feel it was not portrayed well in Veilguard since it lacked the context which the incorporation of past choices would have given, therefore it feels like an incomplete picture. For example, the choice to drink or not drink from the well should be taken into account and have some sort of impact on the influence the inquisitor can have on Solas. Or the choice to influence Cole should somehow impact Solas’ view on his decision. So rather than saying the inquisitor has no impact on his decision, it would be more accurate to say I feel it can’t be determined since we are not given enough context as clear evidence of that said impact. And that more of the Inquisitor past actions should’ve been factored in determining whether we can successfully convince him out of his hare brained idea or not. (Edit for better choice of words)
I am so disappointed. What have they done to Solas? Reduced his entire motivation to such a banality. A complex, contradictory and deep character was truly reduced to the role of "Mythal's little dog", a spirit that was in her service. It's heartbreaking. He doesn't seem like himself in this whole story. Something is wrong and you can feel it. And in general, the game's lore, the very rich lore of the game, from which such great things could have been created, was mostly omitted and not taken into account at all. Whole layers of lore. Such a beautiful game on the outside and such a superficial plot...
Yes, in the Inquisition he often had a very philosophical conversations, with complex motivations. He had such strong opinions and was often judgemental. Even towards romanced Inquisitor. To hear him always talk about how he regreted his mistake, and was doing it for the Elves, spirits, magic, because the Veil is his biggest mistake, but it turns out that deep down he was doing it for Mythal, because it was the world she loved and he failed her. It really removes the complexity of the character and the plot in my eyes. There were so many people who cared for him and were willing to do things for him - Felassan, Varric, Inquisitor on friendship/romance, but at the end everything he did was deep down for Mythal. I don't know. But as he said when she convinced him to take a body, he will always follow her, even if she was not willing to offer anything back. And now we see how there were people who always wanted to follow him and help him even though he was not willing to offer anything back.
@@pativi6643 Regarding your last sentence: it's very ironic, isn't it? And I wouldn't call it a successful, well-aimed ironic situation. It's rather dramatic. I can't shake this strange, but at the same time inevitable feeling, as if I want to go back to the times of the Inquisition, and forget about everything that happened to Solas "before" and "after" all of... this. Although I was counting down the days until the release of Veilguard. I try to find meaning in how the developers finished the story, I cling to every little thing, looking for some kind of meaning in all of this, but I don't find it. I've already managed to think a huge number of thoughts, including the one that: am I being too picky? After all, someone is happy with everything. But no, trying to convince myself that everything is alright, when I feel that everything is NOT is the same as trying to convince myself that I love someone I don't love. In the end, it will feel false. That's how I feel about the ending and the most of narrative in Veilguard, despite Solas' "happy" ending with the Inqui.
@@pativi6643 And you're right: Solas is no longer a philosopher. Oh, how I loved him for his reasoning and his unique worldview. Now all his reasoning is about one thing: "Oh, Mythal, I should have done everything for Mythal, I will follow Mythal anywhere, I want to bring back the world Mythal wanted, I must destroy the Veil, because Mythal's death should not be in vain. Mythal, Mythal, Mythal..." It's pathetic, to say the least.
So…I hate it break it to you…but as someone who worked on aspects of inquisition 12 years ago, Solas was always written to be a spirit. Its why so much about spirits are written into his companion storyline. He was friends with a spirit, he believes spirits are people, his name is the elven word for pride (a demon name). We intentionally included a lot of hints. We also include hints at his feelings towards being enthralled by Mythal if he is present at the well of sorrows. I was not a part of this game’s development at all, but I was during its previous iteration before it was scrapped. The Solas storyline played out pretty much the same. This was always the intentional direction for his character. I don’t try and defend BioWare too much as someone who was a victim to layoffs, but it’s frustrating when people go after the company for the wrong reasons. A lot of hard work went into writing these stories that have been over a decade in the making. I think it’s great that you liked his character and wanted more from him, but this is how he was always meant to be.
The only thing treducing Soals motivation in the game is this comment. The fact that Solas ties so much of his gordian knot of emotions to the old friend he's had complex relationship, and who's a complex character herself, is hardly making Solas "Mythals little dog". And sorry, but what whole layers of lore have been omitted? The Veilguard drops lore bombs after lore bombs on us, set up oftentimes since DAO - that doesn't mean that every detail is tied to the story of ancient elven empire; in fact we've had enough hints to suggest there are still mysteries to be solved and things foreshadowing future events.
Im a bit confused with the whole Solavellan thing honestly. Like, Solas used to be my favourite romance in Inquisition but after that whole thing with Mythal it honestly just feels like he goes with Lavellan only because Mythal isnt in the licture anymore. Idk, feels like a rebound to me but maybe im just salty lol
@Sedines by what I've seen so far yeah lmaoo like they haven't outwardly said that he loved her romantically but the characters get to joke about them "doing it" and most stuff that is said about him states over and over how he's doing everything to make it up to her. We literally got bald Gale with this game
I really don't get the mindset where people can only have One True Love (and even if Solas didn't love Mythal romantically, which is not clear, it was obvious since DAI/Tresapasser she was still the person he cares about deeply) and when they're coming to terms with how that relationship went or ended (Solas did kill Mythal for power after all, and the guilt of that is still very fresh), somehow it means that the next person is a rebound.
Should’ve been. The entire point of the end choices of the Trespasser dlc was to keep the inquisition strong but easier for your enemies to infiltrate, or weaken its power but make it harder for spies to slip into your ranks. Doesn’t feel like that choice or any we made before matters.
Yeah, at the end of Trespasser I couldn't help but imagine my Inquisitor having this giant epic battle against the "Dreadwolf" Solas for DA4. It's too bad that didn't get to happen. I haven't played Veilguard yet, but I heard that they swapped out Solas and had a new "big bad" instead. Pretty disappointing.
@@BrandonL_00 thats what I thought too until they changed the title thats when I knew he would not even be the main villain and yes solas aint the main villain instead hes in the head of our new MC
I honestly wanted this kind of ending for these two (Solas and Lavellan) as I don’t think after all Solas has done would be redeemable, but i wish Mythal could had absolve him first making him know it wasn’t his fault, then have Solas have the guilt and fear. Then Lavellan come to say he can still make it right, that she will walk the path with him. Plus, I would have preferred Solas giving away more into the kiss, it had been 8 years, and holding Lavellan's hand as they walked off into the fade. I kind of understand if you didn’t make an inquisitor who romance him to have it any other way but the love Lavellan had for him and he her deserved more.
so does anyone know what happens in this scene if inquisitor and solas are just friends but inky chose to redeem him? do you get a variation of this scene without the romance?
When I heard the leaks before Veilguard was released, my first thought was "Damn, are the Solas stans going to be disappointed with this one." looks like I was right 😅
It's 50-50 :p! Seems like another divisive subject. Honestly, considering it's been 10 long years and it's a completely different team - I am happy with the outcome. Not gonna whine over lack of perfection and what's perfect is very subjective anyway.
I know Solavellan fans waited 10 years, I’m one too but guys, this is not a game about Solavellan and looks like some of us really forgot how romances look here. In this series we have examples of romancable companions or main characters returning, but remember how it looks? It’s a MENTIONING, always. NOTHING MORE. Alistair, Morrigan and Leliana can talk about Warden but we never see them with him/her. Hawke in Inquisition mentions her love interest but again, we don’t see them together. Here? We got an actual REUNION. Not just talking - whitch already happened earlier in the game both from Solas and his reaction on mentioning her and Lavellan with whole conversation about him, but an actual reunion with looking at each other, holding hands, talking and even a kiss. The only other „reunion” is Dorian with his Inquisitor but even then there is no bigger interaction, they just stand next to each other and talk a bit. So in the context of whole series, Solavellan was treated better than other romances 😂 To be fair, that kind of reunion was good for me. Affection with Solas were never based on body and traditional flirting - even in romance scenes he was pretty serious. Of course he did showed affection but not as much of a physical one, besides kissing - they mostly hold hands. I always saw Solas as a kind of person who shows affection through flowery words, rather than hugging. I do agree with some people, holding hands while they enter the Fade could be a nice addiction since it was pretty much „their thing”, but I will never agree that he doesn’t act like a person who is in love - the way he looks at her when she appears, the way he talks to her with softness and sadness. Plus after the interaction with Mythal and fight with archdemon I wouldn’t be so much into huggs and other grand romantic gestures too 😂 Some people say it’s against his character to let Lavellan go with him, I personally don’t agree - the main reason why he didn’t wanted Lavellan to go with him was because he didn’t wanted her to see what he has to do and what he becomes in order to torn down the Veil. Here he’s not going on another brutal crusade, he goes into the Fade. He didn’t wanted her to go through the path of death but whether he likes it or not, she was already set to follow this path simply because she wanted to stop him. She was already on this path when she got the anchor. He putted her there regardless. And since his greatest fear is loneliness - especially dying alone - having someone to share this last journey with is not as surprising. Still, he might say no but he already did it once and Lavellan still didn’t gave up on him, she still tried to find him and reason with him, she even begged him to leave all of this behind and go with her. In short, this woman is stubborn, there was pretty much no way of persuading her out of this idea - he haven’t seen her for three years between Inquisition and Tresspasser, she didn’t let go of him and begged him to go with her. Now they were separated for ten years and for her nothing changed - she is still ready to follow him wherever he goes. If he would go alone, he would still live in his bubble of regret, sadness and miss her and Lavellan would most probably miss him for another 10 or more years or maybe even never move on. These two are each others true love as Varric-narrator even says in credits. Pretty much soulmates - doesn’t matter how bad the place they go to is, they’re together and that’s all that matters and all they really need. Honestly, it’s actually both tragic and beautiful. OF COURSE not all of us can agree about this, but for me it’s more than I expected to get.
100% It's so much more than I thought we'd get. I don't care if he had a past relationship with Mythal--that relationship is over. And from what we're shown that relationship was pretty one sided. Solas and Lavellan are better for each other anyway, and will be so much happier now that they're finally able to be together.
I completely agree with everything you said but this game is awful on so many levels and completely neglects the fans from DAO and DA2. Its nice that at least part of the community gets closure but lets be honest this could have Easily been and Should've been DLC for Inquisition they even used the same soundtracks from Inquisition in these scenes. this is literally cut content for Dragon Age Inquisition which probably never made it to the game because the Multiplayer didn't generate money and I'm sure EA cancelled content just like they did with Dragon Age 2. Dragon Age Inquisition was supposed to be DLC for DA2 and EA always screwed over every project Bioware and the fans. We were robbed and I like some aspects in Veilguard and this ending but it's unforgivable.
"Affection with Solas were never based on body and traditional flirting " have we watched the same romance in the Inquisition? Like that dude completely lost himself in her when he allowed himself to touch her, in all the kisses, they may be the most passionate and hungry from all of the companions. He refrains, because he knew what he must do and he tried his best to not fall for her and to not hurt her too much. Both during the break up and in Trespasser if she steps towards him and reaches for him, he steps back, because he knew he would fold if she touched him. Not traditional flirting? Seeing her undomitable focus dominated would be fascinating? Getting her into bed is an enjoyable side benefit? Anyways, I don't find the issue with the conclusion of them going to the Fade for eternity. It's just that nothing he does in this entire game shows he genuinely wants her or is willing to do something for her. Everytime it is Lavellan chasing him and sacrificing things - here her whole life, leaving her friends and loved ones, and he barely has a reaction. "he main reason why he didn’t wanted Lavellan to go with him was because he didn’t wanted her to see what he has to do and what he becomes in order to torn down the Veil" this is what he said to her, and I agree, it was supposed to be selfless and beautiful. But in the conversation with Lavellan she mentions that and says that he lied about that and the real reason was that he feared she would convince him to change his mind. And he couldn't allow that, because he would let Mythal down, right. And even in the epilogue the narrator only says "Inquisitor was finally reunited with her one true love", but nothing says about Solas. The game shows over and over that Lavellan pines and loves, and is willing to sacrifice so much for him, but he does not do a single thing that shows it the other way around. Even in conversations with Lavellan when she mentions him, she speaks about how his love burned against her like a fire, that he was kind, wise and that she was willing to follow him anywhere, and even now she speaks about wanting to be with him. While Solas says that she is a good woman, and growing close to her was one of his countless regrets, even though he cherishes some of them more than his victories.
As a solasmancer i think deep down we always knew it was going to be a bitter sweet ending for them. Im not convinced Mythal and Solas were lovers as they both continously address one another as friend and Bellara even says that the elves use words differently to other races. I think its like Lelianna and Justinia, Solas is utterly devoted to Mythal who manipulates him and grooms him and its when she betrays him that he starts his rebellion; hes purely a loyal follower doing her bidding. I think what we got with Lavellan was fair and its more than any other romance from Inquisition. What i would love to know is where exaclty they go once they reach the fade, does Lavellan become immortal now, do they retain their physical form? Yes there could of been more with these two but its more than their romance and at least this way Solas isnt alone anymore and can at least begin to heal and right the wrongs hes done
I have my complaints for this but I agree, we suspect a bitter sweet ending is the best we might can get for Solavellan. My best ending would be that he doesn't tear apart the veil _without_ being bind to the veil, and travel the world for his atonement with Lavellan, showing him that mistake and failure doesn't always mean doom and gloom and you can't always 'fix' the mistake. Of course it was a disaster for the titans and ancient elf, but it was the result of the war and rebellion. Now this world is a new world, not broken, that new people lives in. Now I really curious what happens to Lavellan too.
I think what they’re going for is that Lavellan and Solas are, in a way, replacing Andrastianism. We learn that Andraste was just Mythal all along, meaning the entire religion is essentially incorrect. But now, we have an all-powerful god (Solas) who created and sustains the Veil and his lover, who not only fought against (parts of) Ancient Tevinter but also convinced this god not to turn on the world. Now, they both exist in a “heaven” of sorts. They’re essentially the new but also real Andraste and Maker, the parallels are strong.
@@artarthur-u9u LOL being sorry that you murdered someone accidentally sure makes you not guilty. If you say your sorry and feel bad about it all is forgiven.
"I pulled you from the Fade you loved and sent you into war. I used your wisdom as a weapon... and it broke you." This reminds me of All New, Faded For Her quest. It's like he's a twisted spirit in a way, by all the things he has done for Mythal.
The game still doesn't make it clear completely, but this that sound to me like the confirmation that he didn't originate as a spirit of Pride, but a spirit of Wisdom. Even back in the Inquisition Cole says about him "Barefaced but free, frolicking fighting. He wants to give wisdom, not orders."
@@pativi6643 did I make it up I swear it was said that solas was a spirit of wisdom that turned into pride. I’m pretty sure the ending card for solas speaks how he returns back to wisdom.
@@Bro-dot- I will need to see these again, I don't remember. But I do remember that during the second memory, where it shows he took the body, the companions theorize that he used to be a spirit of Pride, wrongly I think.
So no happy ending for the hero of Ferelden and Hawk. And the inquisitor only get happy ending if she romanced Solas. Do we really wait 10 years for this ??????????
Why is Lavellan so short? She was the same height as Solas in DAI 🤨 I am so disappointed he did not take her hand when going into the Fade. And the animation is meh, DAI looked better tbh. Here, they all look weird and short…
It would’ve been better had they played out the game with you as one of Solas’ pawns and had a character arc moment when you choose to betray him. Maybe have it as a POV swapping, where portions of the game are played from the Inquisitor’s POV and others as Rook to make it feel more like a continuation of your adventure from Inquisition as well as a new adventure with Rook.
Seriously? This was a terrible ending!! I’m so disappointed!! He doesn’t even hold her hand when she following him into the shitty fade for eternity! He would never let her do that! (Ie trespasser). Only good part what’s the nod to the inquisition theme music
I don't think the game said anything about Solas going to the Fade for eternity and keep in mind that the Lighthouse is in the Fade :) ! So the location is not all that bad, despite him saying where he is going is terrible. The alternative for her is being in a world destroyed by the Blight and without him. In scenes before that, there is a way to make the Inquisitor give up on Solas, this one is the scene showing a lover who hasn't given up. Personally, I thought about the not holding hands thingy too, but after the amount of cheese in the game, I was happy with this gesture. Putting a hand on someone's arm is a show of support which is what she is doing as she is walking into the Fade. Any chance that the drama in the comment is tied to the drama around the game and not this scene being that "terrible" :/?
After everything Solas has been through in the past 5 minutes alone, do you seriously expect him to get all lovey dovey? Because if I was in his position, I’d be processing way too many feelings and thoughts to accurately know what to do or how to react
@@thetypicallifeofcousins2703 100% agreed. I was in a position of reuniting with someone I love and it was kinda like in this scene. Affection but also no jumping back into things like nothing happened. Loved what developers did here.
Way to mischaracterize what happened, only becayse Solas happens to care about more than one person in his life, and feels guilty for what happened to her, sheesh
I would say this is best ending. Sure Varic died. But he knew the risk. And Solas is punished for his crimes by forever being sealed within Fade in order to maintain the veil. Though he does so of his own acord if you manage to convince him. And if Lavellan who romanced him is convinced to go with him. He at the very least won't be alone and even thanks Rook. A far cry to how he is in other endings. It is basically his happiest ending possible.
In fact, I see Mythal as the true culprit in everything that happens, not Solas. She manipulated Solas from the start. But he is held responsible while she continues to live in freedom
They were friends and lovers meaning he was open to manipulation. She did use him however as she has perveted his original nature. Thus trapping him in his own guilt.
@milijanpetrovic7228 They were friends, servants and rulers but not lovers. She didn't want a fight with her husband that's why she abandoned Solas when he asked for help. Of course he is also to blame, I won't deny that, but for me she is the main reason
@milijanpetrovic7228 Bellara explains very well in the game that elves mean things differently. And in Inquisition, Solas talks about mythal that she would be like a mother to everyone. In addition, there is a description from Solas and the Inquisitor, which tells what it is like when the dredwolf falls in love for the first time in his life. I think, first and foremost, she was a friend and a mentor, but he was still her subordinate.
Varric was killed unjustly. But I'm hoping that Varric will survive the ordeal and live on as a spirit or something. Remember Leliana's lyrium ghost? Varric as a spirit guide for future DA installment is going to be weird tho.I love the Inquisitor - Solas romance interacton. A bitter sweet end just like what Morrigan and the Warden did in Witch Hunt dlc. Bioware did Morrigan wrong too. Look at her outfit. I want her Chasind robes back. But tbh I love Mythal's crown/tiara she wear.
I really wanted Hawke to crash out of the Fade from battling Fear into submission, reunite with Varric and be a support in defending Thedas. There was so much potential for a happy end for them!
Varric does speak to Rook in his prison in the Fade. Could it be a manifestation of his memories as a spirit of some sorts? Like with Divine Justinia in the Inquisition? How else would he speak? Anyways, he does say to Rook that he knew what could happen when he was going to speak to the Fen'harel and that he still hopes Solas can be saved by Rook, even after he was murdered by him.
I'm waiting for the actual real Dragon Age fans who know the lore to basically just come out and tell us Point by Point how Dragon Age The Veil guard goes against the pre-established mechanics in building blocks of the world and how this is all cobbled together at the last moment
It depends on perspective amongst lore nerd fans. Some see it as rewrites of old content (which I don’t think is entirely true) while others see it as revelations that open up new secrets and give it a whole extra understanding of the world. Just like how the dread wolf goes against pre-established lore. It’s gonna be polarising for sure, all depends on how they see it.
Wish I had seen this about an hour ago. I downloaded the game. How is it that inquisition from 2014 looks much better than veilguard? This people should have done early access and fix this based on player feedback. Truly awful game.
The models are unfortunately very childish , but environment and cinematics are absolutely freaking amazing. Hope you enjoy the game. Keep in mind i am also playing ok xbox series s , it's recorded footage and had to be edited. Looks much better when you play it in person ;>
There would be no dragon age 5 if they allowed such a choice haha:p it would be two completely different worlds that would have to get designed. And we would prolly end up waiting 20 years this time xd
Hmm is it just me or does Bioware love to sacrifice previous protagonist, like Hero of Fereldan who's canon end is to kill the Archdemon themselves, Hawke if you choose to sacrifice them to an onslaught of fade spiders in Inquisition and now the Inquisitor though granted it's technically Solas sacrifice but it is a sweet one where he doesn't go alone
I don’t think it’s a sacrifice for them though, now they can spend an eternity together and Solas will have help healing the blight. I get your point and I kinda like that, (even though I was torn with the choice in DAI), I sure hope I don’t have to do any sacrifices with Rook in the next game.
So...we're forced to choose to create a female elf inquisitor to get this ending ?! If we have a female human/dwarf/qunari, they don't appear in this ending ?
Darn it, if I never played DAI, i can see how this is disappointing. If i did play DAI and was invested in the romance, this is great closure at least, if a little adrupt
Ok so not even past act 1 and spoiled but I'm confused by people reading mythal and solas as romantic that's downright maternal and outlines her manipulating, using, and creating him.... NONE of the evanuris were morally on the up she was just the best of em. Cool that solas is confirmed as once Wisdom like Cole. Explains why cole vexed him since he needed... A godmother lol😅
I think he had followers and agents, but not an actual organized army. Unless you mean the army he used to have during his rebellion? Coz there is a whole story line about that and how he betrayed his spirit followers which is very unlike him.
@@Keram-io8hv Yes, that whole plot is glossed over, no? It was called "Fen'harel's call to the elven people" and said that the elves from the Inquisition ranks left under mysterious circumstances as did elven servants all over Thedas. I don't think we meet a single Fen'harel's agent in the game, where in the Tevinter Nights they were doing his bidding and even were ordered to commit suicide when captured.
A lot of Solavellans complaining come across as a bit spoiled to me. This is WAY more than what most past game romances get in the sequel games. Lots of girlies just salty about the Mythal relationship. He has a toxic ex, so what? He's 1000s of years old, he is going to have exes. Being bothered by that is insecure in the extreme. Lavellan literally gets to be with him in the fade protecting all of Thedas from the Blight. It is both romantic and heroic for her story to end that way.
Didn't even know that Mythal being brought up as a possible lover is gonna be an issue. But thinking back, emmrich-rook romance allows the player to say they are virgins. I almost fell off the couch when I picked that dialogue option. Makes me wonder if the game is targeted towards immature audience xd
@@greenbrownblue I didn't know that about the Emmrich romance that is funny af. It makes sense for games to aim at younger audiences, but it does result in the social media takes being...yikes...sometimes, lol.
I'm actually very happy Solas and Lavellan get to be together in the end. I'd been anticipating all along a tragic end with one or both of them dying or forever being apart. So, I'm feeling very grateful right now that we even got an option for a somewhat happy ending. Don't care in the slightest if Solas was romantically involved with Mythal or not. Mythal is his past, Lavellan is his future. But I agree, there seems to be a whole lot insecurity and ingratitude floating around within the fandom right now. Lavellan isn't a rebound or second best... she's his lobster. ❤
Fans of the Egg get this scene which was nice and they still complain LMAO My only complaint about this scene is that it should've been more personal for the obsessed Inquisitor having Morrigan and Rook in the final scene takes away from it. EA is the worst company in the World we all know this was probably cut content from Inquisition because of the worse adaptation of a multiplayer/loot box system ever created didn't generate profits for investors and long time fans waited a decade for this. EA always wanted Dragon Age to be a multiplayer game and this is the final result just another legendary IP that died because of corporate greed and forced ideology so basically nothing to see here just a normal day in 2024. Compare this game to Final Fantasy Rebirth and how they treated their fans the gameplay alone is leagues above anything this game could accomplish and the Final Boss fight in that game is what BioWare should've done for this game.
Glad to know you will buy the game. If you are not interested in real world politics, it's possible to just ignore quests with Taash. And if you enjoy pretty cinematics , then the game is amazing when it comes to that. A shame ppl are so negative atm coz datv is not as awful as it's being painted. There are so many things to enjoy.
To be frank, people are complaining for nothing... I have 40 hours of play, in 40 hours of play there have only been two/three lines concerning LGBT... It's not like it's constantly brought up in every quest and dialogue. People need to take a piss idk
@@AB-ql3dz I beat the game in 30-something, and Taash was non stop talk about herself and acting like a child. So definitely more than 3 lines in my exp, and lots of trauma dumping. Maybe once you get to her personal quests you will see what ppl complain about. Without too many details: pulling a bharv, mom meals, arguments with neve, "you dont get to tell me who i am", personal quest, talks with harding, etc, etc. It was a lot and she did not have a personality outside of gender identity, but thats true for some other companions as well. For example, Emmrich is adorable,, but hes all about necromancy and death, so he lacks any depth as a companion.
For anyone curious, here is a BETTER translation of what they said in elvhan than what the game gave. Do better EA. When your fans know the language better than you that's REALLY BAD.
When Mythal Frees Solas from servitude the inquisitor kneels at his feet and says:
Inquisitor: Banal nadas ar lath'ma vehn'an (This is echoing what he said to her in inquisition, at least the last part is.) The game translates it to "There is no fate but the love we share" (No clue where they got this cause it's only vaguely close) What it ACTUALLY translates closer to is "Nothing is certain. I love you, my heart." If they wanted to mention fate then they SHOULD have said something more like " Ghilanas tel nadas ar lath'ma vehn'an" Lit: "Fate is uncertain. I love you, my heart."
Anyway, next part. when she tells Solas he doesn't have to go alone he says:
Solas: "Ar ghilas vir banal." The game translates this to "Where I am going is terrible." Lit translated it's closer to "The path I'm following goes to nothingness, destruction, emptiness, void, abyss, darkness, take your pick of any of these words.
If they wanted to say it is "terrible" then they could have used "telamaan" which is lit "horrible" or "telam'ala" lit "worst" so "Ar ghilas telamaan" Lit : "Where I go is horrible"
Inquisitor: "Tel banal ara'ma vir shiral ma'lasa belanaras" The game translates her response as "It won't be terrible if you're with me.
"ghilas" is "to go" such as: on a path, but "dara" is "to go" as in : to go through or pierce something; and "ghi'las" is "you guide" because "ghi'lan" is the word for "a guide" so at the end of trespasser when the inquisitor originally asks to go with Solas she tells him "Ma ghi'lana vehn'an" She literally asks him "will you guide me, my heart" "Vir" is "path" but can also mean "journey" in the metaphysical sense" thus why "vir" and "vas" are similar but in this case "vir" is being used in the metaphysical sense and that's why you see "vir shiral" side by side because if you translated that to english it would LIT be journey journey or path lifelong adventure which neither one makes sense so in the inquisitor's sentence vir is being used to emphasize that their journey is just as much a physical one as it is a metaphysical one. and "ma'lasa" is actually "you grant" so here she is asking him to grant her permission to go with him because the "me" is implied by the earlier use of either the words "ara'ma" or "saron"
So a more Literal translation is actually more like: "Not nothingness if we are together as one. Allow me to journey this path with you, forever."
TLDR; Game translation: Inquisitor: "There is no fate but the love we share"
Solas: Where I am going is terrible.
Inquisitor: It won't be terrible if you're with me. We make this journey together, always."
Actual translation: Inquisitor: Nothing is inevitable. I love you, my heart.
Solas: The path I'm following leads to nothing.
Inquisitor: Not nothing if we are together. Allow me to take this journey with you, forever.
Finally someone bothered to translate it properly. Thanks for that
I knew it sounded off from the subtitles, but my Thedas elvish is rusty
Thank you.
A true fan I see. You have my condolences of the atrocities writing but at lest they tried with this, this ending feel like a more true ending
That doesn't sound very romantic to me
yeah, people are just parroting negative reviews and don't even stop to listen to what the game has to say. and it says a LOT to fill in the blanks
In Inquisition, Solas was always about the elves and their world, but in Veilguard everything now seems to be all about Mytal
However, I have already read some fan opinions that don't understand what Bioware wants to show with this, because it seems as if the perpetrator is going his own way and the victim is being punished.
After 10 years we get this 5 minute scene... i am so disappointed
Veilguard should have been a continuation of DAI... the story wasn't over, definitely for these two.... so sad
Agreed that I much much much rather would have continued Inquisitors story. I remember being bothered by the community being against that idea. Seems like most ppl wanted a new thing. Hope they are happy with the new game :
@greenbrownblue funny because now I've seen people from the community saying it should have been a continuation of DAI 😅
@@dianavcsantos in some way it kind of was.
And perhaps maybe a fanfiction could make some redeemer
@darthdracul8372 I understand what you're saying, but some of the world state of veilguard has nothing to do with some people's choices in DAI. I get you can't please anyone, but some things are just bad.
@@dianavcsantos don’t underestimate imagination
@@pativi6643 So much of DAV goes against Inquisition I'm actually bamboozled. It essentially voids the exposition of Trespasser.
@@greenbrownbluethis game was not done well whatsoever. The lore it's self is shat on. It's a woke pos. The fans see what a pos this game is.
True. Not the same people behind this game either and it shows. Would not surprise me if this is the last bioware game ever.
@@merkarion7883 I've got the same feeling about Morrigan, still, this game is incredibly mediocre
10 years for this....
Most of it was in development hell. It probably has just 5 years of actual development.
I think the whole point was to present him as a trickster god who finally changes thanks to Inquisitor
Mythal, Mythal, Mythal..."
It's pathetic, to say the least.
So they turned him into the BG3 Early access version of Gale?
Man i always said that the inquisitor should have been the protag like this is all we get? Pathetic
I agree, in the first place this should've just been a true sequel to DA Inquisitor.
@@Davidofthelost thats because it does not I feel like most of the choices had no point since all the games before are literally non canon
10 long years. For this rubbish 😢
So in the context of whole series, Solavellan was treated better than other romances 😂
To be fair, that kind of reunion was good for me.
Before learning that the Inquisitor would show up in this game, I was 100% ready to get a mention from Solas and nothing more.
So Dorian’s romance is mentioned? Even if you don’t save Minrathous?
Best ending? The bastard killed Varric and she just accepted it.
It is the best ending available in the game currently.
Plus, it was Varric’s choice to take a gamble.
Plus that monster didn’t strike me as the heartless type
@@darthdracul8372 Yes. Solas face show real pain. He went over the line long ago. But this is his friend. The look on that man face is just tragic.
@@artarthur-u9u LOL being sorry that you murdered someone accidentally sure makes you not guilty. If you say your sorry and feel bad about it all is forgiven.

And this is what we get? Good lord
Ah sorry you feel that way. What do you love so far vs hate?
"I pulled you from the Fade you loved and sent you into war. I used your wisdom as a weapon... and it broke you."
This reminds me of All New, Faded For Her quest.
@@pativi6643 There is a dialogue with Morrigan that spells it out.
She was the same height as Solas in DAI 🤨
I am so disappointed he did not take her hand when going into the Fade.
And the animation is meh, DAI looked better tbh. Here, they all look weird and short…
She shrunk from old age :p
It annoys me I hope someone makes a height sliders mod 😂
It would’ve been better had they played out the game with you as one of Solas’ pawns and had a character arc moment when you choose to betray him.
Maybe have it as a POV swapping, where portions of the game are played from the Inquisitor’s POV and others as Rook to make it feel more like a continuation of your adventure from Inquisition as well as a new adventure with Rook.
Seriously? This was a terrible ending!! I’m so disappointed!! He doesn’t even hold her hand when she following him into the shitty fade for eternity! He would never let her do that! (Ie trespasser). Only good part what’s the nod to the inquisition theme music
fr
Oh no Solas didn’t act like in the fanfic I made up🤓💀
Nothing is more romantic than crying over an old girlfriend
The memories about Mythal can be interpreted in such way that they were in love.
Agreed !!! Seems like most ppl wanted Varric to be in games and not retired.
Anyone else notice how he seems to change after Mythal says ‘I release you from my service’?
I need this version of lost elf so bad
Really dragon age origins to this ending?
Is there an ending where Solas just kills them all? He is my favourite character and I think he should be the last man standing.
Yep but people call it "bad" IDK why
There is an ending that allows you to punch him :p : ua-cam.com/video/9MtFq18jyxM/v-deo.htmlsi=u6gxb5A3AmLMurDB
Hate it, I wanted to tear a veil down...
There is a possibility they were "DOING IT" (not my words): ua-cam.com/video/rt1fQGrdx7I/v-deo.html&ab_channel=greenbrownblue
The Elf Inquisitor and Solas Best ending. I would agree.
I got a question what happened to solas army???
I think he had followers and agents, but not an actual organized army. Unless you mean the army he used to have during his rebellion? Coz there is a whole story line about that and how he betrayed his spirit followers which is very unlike him.
Thousands of elves he assembled in the end of Tresspasser? They offed themselves when they ran out of pumpkin spiced latté
@@Keram-io8hv Yes, that whole plot is glossed over, no? It was called "Fen'harel's call to the elven people" and said that the elves from the Inquisition ranks left under mysterious circumstances as did elven servants all over Thedas. I'm so happy😭😭😭❤ After TEN years😭😭😭
Me too!!! This scene made up for everything that is wrong with the game. It's beautiful ❤️
Where is Kate mulgrew?
Yea, Mythal lacking her original voice threw me off so bad too. Will look into why she was not involved in this project for sure :
A lot of Solavellans complaining come across as a bit spoiled to me. This is WAY more than what most past game romances get in the sequel games. Lots of girlies just salty about the Mythal relationship. He has a toxic ex, so what? He's 1000s of years old, he is going to have exes. Being bothered by that is insecure in the extreme. Lavellan literally gets to be with him in the fade protecting all of Thedas from the Blight. It is both romantic and heroic for her story to end that way.
Lol the drama xd
BLOODY FINE!! ill ignore the trans stuff and ill buy this game! this scene is what i wanted for so damn long!!
