Haha, I would get right back on a nanny job app and find me a new one! I don’t put up with that. I don’t have to. I have the freedom to find a better work environment with a new family.

This is very stressful for nannies, I know many nannies that deal with this. I discuss this during the interview -My expectation is to enter a clean home to start my work day and I will return the home the same way at the end of the day as I received it. I make it very clear , housekeeping is not in my description. I also give them examples of what is acceptable and what is not. Example: I will add a dish or two to the dishwasher. However, I will not clean up after your weekend gatherings. When dealing with families, I find it helpful to be very straightforward during the interview and if your assertiveness is not appreciated, you quickly can identify that may not be the family for you. I love your channel, I agree with the philosophy of communication is key. Btw you mentioned nanny guilt … such a real emotion

It is definitely one of the biggest complaints we hear from nannies. Clear communication from the beginning is the best way to handle the situation.

This video is genius! I work with infants ages 4 months-pre toddlers. Often I'll finish all the bottles to have ALL bottles left for me from the ENTIRE weekend and the parents leaving dishes in the sink. The bottles will be stuck together with the dried purees. Going forward, I now know what interview questions to ensure I'm not spending an hour or more cleaning up on Monday's.

That’s my main thing, I work to get the bottles cleaned throughout the week, so my bosses and always have bottles ready to use only to come in on Monday to an empty cupboard and a sink full of bottles 🤦🏼‍♀️. It seems insignificant to most people, but it’s really stressful to have a hungry baby screaming at you while you rush to clean a bottle. So frustrating.

Along time ago I had a job. My responsibility was to keep up the kitchen. Mostly the kids stuff. I was also responsible which I didn’t mind cleaning the babies bottles every day. On Monday when I came back to work The mother showed me a bottle that wasn’t thoroughly cleaned. And I know that I cleaned them very well. This bottle that the mother showed me had old formula around the top of it. And she said that it was my fault and stuffed the bottle in my nose to make me smell it and said why did you leave it like this. I don’t even know what to say at the time.

I am sorry that happened to you. It is was disrespectful how it was handled. Sometimes the best approach is to apologize. “I’m sorry there is a bottle that was left dirty. I work very bad to ensure everything is clean and sainted everyday. I will keep an eye on this moving forward. “

I did a trial week with a family, their house was a mess, and they expected me to do all the laundry, clean and organize the shared spaces, organize children’s rooms, and take care of their special needs 6 month old and 3 year old. Plus take the kids to the library and parks throughout the week. On top of that, take care of their incessantly barking 4 dogs with behavior issues, for $23 an hour. 😂 No thanks!

A trail is a great way to find out the expectations and make sure you are interested in the position. Sounds like you made the right choice.

I also have a question - How much notice should a nanny give their family when planning on moving on to a new job? I've been with my current family for 4 years & out of respect, I want to give them as much notice as I can to find a replacement, but it's tricky when a new employer generally expects you to start within 2 weeks time.

We generally say 2 weeks notice is a standard amount of notice. If you can give more because you know when your next job starts then I’m sure it would be appreciated.
