Great info. I would advise to fast forward to around 20 mins of the video to get to the punchline - should you read the PMBOK 7th edition and use it to study for the PMP design.

This new version of PMBOK seems to trully fulfill PMI's mission. Which is to standardize the practice of project management worldwide.
If there's one word that you can use to describe the PM principals and performance domains is "universal".
Whatever project you work on: big, small, agile, predictive, hybrid, etc. Anywhere in the world you perform this project: North America, South America, Asia, Europe, Arctic Circle, etc. Any industry you work in: Construction, Transportation, IT, Marketing, etc.
    You can use this guide!

I love your comment and you are 100% correct. The guide can apply to any project.

This is from the reference list: *The exam is based on the PMP certification exam content outline (ECO), not the (PMBOK® Guide) or other reference books. A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) - Seventh Edition will now be a reference to inform the development of the exam items. However, before any validated exam item is added to the exam, there is a very rigorous and thorough review and field test cycle. This process takes multiple months.

Hi Andrew. Great video to introduce the 7th edition of the PMBOK.
I share your point of view that the new version of the PMBOK is adaptable to any project and that it gives the basic principles of project management. It implies that readers should have a minimum experience as project manager.
    Thanks for the video. 👍

I just cleared the PMP exam on 30th July. I read the 7th edition lightly. I can say that my set of actual exam questions did not include 7th ed. As emphasised a couple of times, the exam is based on the ECO, this is the blueprint if the exam.
However, please do note that I noticed some subtle differences in the ECO when I downloaded it just last week from PMI website. The intro write up of the latest ECO does not specify which PMBoK edition the ECO is based on. Go ahead and see for yourself… Download it too… This means that they may start to slowly inject questions based on 7th ed into the exam.
Since 7th ed is generic and universal in nature, it is a good read and will not contradict the 6th edition still. If at all, it complements each other in my opinion.

    Thank you for this upload.
I went through 7th edition and I can say it is indeed an easy and fun read. It integrates / merges Agile and hybrid into the book and does not distinguish between those types specifically; the book applies indeed to all types of approach regardless of the industry. In my opinion the 7th edition is like a summary of the PM profession. It is generic but it makes sense. It also reclassifies the domains, emphasized the tailoring, grouped models, methods and artifacts in a different manner, and defines the Sponsor, the PMO, and the Product.

Hi Andrew. Appreciated the talk. I'm accustomed to teaching the 5 Process groups and 10 Knowledge Areas and the twelve Principles and eight Performace Domains will (I'm sure) be added to the exams. The ten (10) pages of contributors demonstrate the issues with the text. Many practitioners are waiting to see how this will fall out with the updated exams and make this more useful instead of a terminology soup to memorize.

Andrew I enjoyed your great review and agree that PMBOK 7th edition would not negate information in previous PMBOK editions.
This is most likely because this newly-evolved edition is an example of PMBOK focusing on the importance of complimenting and streamlining the value-oriented concepts, and knowledge-based behaviors that are critical for any Project Manager to have in order to be successful with a project.

Thank you. PMI shouldn't ask 'newbys' to read two books for sake of exam taking. PMI should have two exams and let people decide if they want 6th or 7th edition--slowly phasing out 6th edition questions.

How about those who just started in 2021 and never heard of 6th Edition. Do they have to read the 900 pages of the old book to pass the PMP exam? If so what's the point of using an old edition to sit for today's exam. Does not make any sense at all.

The 7th edition doesn't add anything to the exam
The real change in the exam is coming from the Agile Practice Guide taking 50% of the exam and PMBOK 6th edition is still relevant for 50% of the exam.

With the new change in PMBOK,
Should ITTO be considered in studying the book!
Since the new book cover all methods without emphasizing ITTO used before in traditional (Waterfall) method.
    Kindly, explain.
