- During the 2010 National Convention of the American Guild of Organists in Washington, DC, Jeremy Filsell spent the entire day performing the 6 organ symphonies of Louis Vierne.
The marathon concert was played on the very French III/47 built by Lively-Fulcher in 1994 for St. Patrick's RC Church.
Our video production was very basic. We placed my home video camera in the organ loft, turned it on, and Jeremy took it from there. The audio was recorded on a Zoom H2 stationed at the other (altar) end of the building.
and he turns his own pages... Hats OFF to you Jeremy!
LOVE how he GRABS the distracting mirror at the VERY beginning of the performance... Classic! sensational playing as always!
Brilliant playing, super acoustics and powerful reeds, subtle flutes, loved the registration changes, and page turns, inspiring!
Stunningly gorgeous pipe organ, magnificently played
00:45 Filsell: "Who tuned this instrument?!"
I've always tried to figure out why the flutes on that organ (as at 14:14) do that weird little fluttery-farty thing that interrupts the sound. Is it a pipe chest issue?
Magnificent performance, and stunning that he did this without page turners or registrants!
Great music and great performance. Bravo!
Incredible performance! Really French, but... has this organ some reeds not in tune?😅
Bravo!
"Very French" is a profound understatement. Though modest in size, it rivals even the great instruments of Cavaille-Coll.
The first time I ever heard this instrument in person, it took my breathe away! Absolutely face-ripping sound. In fact, I was in the room when this performance took place on that marathon Vierne day. INCREDIBLE experience.
The Bärenreiter Urtext score gives a metronome marking of quarter note = 120 for the first movement. This is clearly much too fast. Mr. Filsell's tempo is most appropriate and gives a high degree of musicality to the movement. Spectacular performance. Bravo!
Just to answer. I have the score of a vierne student. The 120 is erased and surrounded of 76! I think that it would be a great idea to follow this indication....
I have the first print edition from durand.
Fantastic
Superb
