It's ok if you don't like T2; but don't ever have the audacity to call it a cash in. Boyle, Hodge & the cast are obviously really invested emotionally in continuing the story. This is the big thing Boyle's been working towards for 10 years & it deserves all the respect in the world for even trying to compete with the original. I loved T2, especially after knowing all the struggle that went through the conception of it. People just spew their opinions without ever thinking about looking into the background about the film that they apparently hate so much.

    • @Leprutz

The good thing about it is that they didn't even want the movie to compete with it's original and I think this is what makes it remargable alltogether.

Met Danny on the street in Manchester a year or so ago, had to stop and make sure it was who I thought it was. Absolutely lovely guy, wasn't bothered by me stopping him on his way just to say how big of a fan I was, even asked me about what I was up to. Much respect.

T2 is a great movie. It's as simple to say 'If you love the first one you'll love this' but it's a bittersweet love letter to the first one. A grown up companion to the younger, more raw original.

  • @thewholecity

Aw YES! That chasm of confidence is where Danny comes right into his role as a true mentor and actors Director. He is such a beloved and intelligent soul. We need directors like Danny because the chasm is very difficult to see across. He is like a guiding light saying "Go on, do it. Trust yourself and make it as big as you want". It's like being given a torch and being set free. What an honour. It's what we all yearn for. Observed naturalism is beautiful, but stories like T2 are absurd and visceral and sexy. So yes. Without Danny, T2 would have been a far less wonderful thing. And boy is it wonderful.

The feel is different. Personally for me Trainspotting was all about that Choose Life. Getting on your feet, finding your place in the world. So this movie is different in that regard no more I can say. Now if that is a good or bad thing that's for you to decide. This is a new movie so they should be applauded for that.

    • @deckofcards87

No that's good to hear. I know they set out to make a sequel that's entirely it's own film. That to me is always a good thing...so hearing that is definitely promising, thanks.

i saw it 27/01/17 = 1045am, Cineworld, Glasgow. Fabulous film. T1 is a classic - and 'classic' is an over used term these days but T1 is. NO question. I think Danny Boyle did as much as possible to make something both exciting, and emotional and keeping with the 'feel' of the original movie, which he did. Brilliant. You know a movie is good when you can 'feel the atmosphere' in the cinema of 800 people.

I wasn’t sure about T2 when I first saw it as Trainspotting’s one of my favourite films and books. I saw the original seven times when it first came out at the cinema. I kind of wanted them to make Porno, but I guess T2 worked better. I’ve seen it a few times now and I like
it more. I just didn’t like how these grown men were all terrified of Begbie - there was three of them and they were running like he was a monster. It was dumb.

    • @OFED
      @OFED Рік тому

I understand that. My similar gripe is that I think Renton should have died - thus solidifying Begbies terrifying nature (I suppose in the end, they chose life - ha). In a sense however Begbie is less a man in T2 and more an omen. A representative of their past chasing after them. He’s the antithesis of change and he’s haunting them like our mistakes haunt us.

Simon Mayo is in my opinion, the most skilled and criminally underrated person in the BBC. Im fed up to the back teeth of the woke fest gluttons like, Nicky Campbell, Stephen Nolan and Colin Murray. Mr Kermode can be excellent at times but he loves a side dish of woke on the sly.

    • @Bamngbola

      1. I've probably seen more movies than you have as I work in the industry.
      2. It was haunted by the original, they were continually referencing it by inserting old clips and re-mixing the original music. They couldn't move on and make a fitting sequel which was their own film.
      3. Stupid plot: nothing happened. They all met up for 2 hours, talked/fought then went their separate ways again.

walter_ego That was the point. They were haunted by their past, as sick boy said "you're a tourist in your own youth. They'd gotten old, and missed the past - slightly obsessed with it.
