GAME: Persona 3 Reload

As with the original Persona 3, the protagonist is a high school student returning to his home city a decade after his parents were killed in a fatal car crash. The deadline for his Linked Episode is the 26th, a few days after exams end, so you're okay to wait until after exams to do it.

@@helfire14 Thankfully, they dated at a Waffle House, so nobody questioned why there's an emo holding a gun making love with a ghost girl in public.
If you offered to pay for the takoyaki in Mitsuru's rank 3 event she'll laugh and say something like "Who do you think you're talking too?" only for her to be shocked as she approaches the counter and finds they don't accept cards. Also, what the protag meant with the "I'll be rooting for you" choice was that he thinks Mitsuru was secretly pining for Akihiko, so he's rooting for them to work it out 😆. It's a lot clearer that's what he's implying when you pick the "Maybe you're in love option." beforehand.
Are there any other moments that suggest that Mitsuru and Akihiko have feelings for each other?
@@jameslawrenson1208 That's the only one I can think of, but even this is just the protag making assumptions on their relationship. If you do actually pick the "Maybe you're in love" option, Mitsuru responds '"In love"...? No it's not that. Is that how it looks to you? I didn't realize. He's just a friend... Or should I say, teammate? It's a bit hard to describe. In any case that is the extent of our relationship.'

Some memes never die. Especially on this channel. Sure, the go dormant for awhile but they come back swinging eventually
In the movies, the month of December is even more harrowing than in the games. Many of the party member's stories were actually left unresolved through December and as a result, pretty much all of the characters become super depressed throughout December making it a very depressing watch. Notable standouts include, Akihiko punching Junpei after his breakdown at the protag, Fuuka breaking down in tears after learning about Nyx, Ken snapping at Koromaru that Shinjiro was dead and that they would soon be joining him, Yukari's Persona ATTACKING HER after she becomes apathetic to life and death and the protag seeming to even consider suicide to escape from having to decide. Luckily this does cumulate in a rather poignant moment where they receive some resolution to their character arks (Yukari in the movies didn't watch the video of her father until December for example).
I gotta admit, Winter of Rebirth might be one of the best adaptations of video game media I've ever seen. It's different, but HOLY SHIT IS SO GOOD.
There's an artist called _sutei who's single handedly carrying the P3 Protag x Fuuka ship. They drew so many that it'll give you diabetes

Funny thing is, Nico, that this game DOES acknowledge one of your relationships outside of her Social Link, just not in the main story. If you romance Yukari and go platonic with Fuuka, Yukari will act jealous during the final rank of Fuuka's Social Link since it involves Yukari talking to the two of you in the dorm's kitchen. If you're platonic with both, all Yukari says is that Junpei could learn a thing or two from you, whereas if you're in a relationship with Yukari, she'll say you'd better not be putting the moves on Fuuka, and Fuuka has to assure her that you're being a loyal boyfriend.

Well, they WERE voiced by the same person in the original game. And canonically, Tara Platt and Yuri Lowenthal are married.
I wouldn’t say I’m into the “dommy-mommy” type either, but I’d argue Mitsuru isn’t actually really like that. The fans like to run with that just because of a few choice lines of dialogue, and the spin-offs probably play it up a lot, but she really doesn’t take *pleasure* in being in a position of power. She’s USED to it due to her status and wealth, but she doesn’t take joy in lording her elite-ness over anyone else, she doesn’t act like she’s better than the rest of us and we should be submitting ourselves to her. In fact, her whole SL is about her trying to experience how normal people live their lives, how she’s uncertain if she wants to be in charge of a company or if she can even be a good leader for it, and wondering what it’d be like if she just ran away and left it all behind. Then there’s the whole arranged marriage thing. Obviously she’s not enthused about it, but not because she’s afraid of losing power; she’s afraid of losing agency. Having the freedom of choice of how she wants to live her life be taken from her is what’s giving her so much anxiety. She doesn’t want a relationship where one person is controlling of the other’s life (neither her or her partner), she wants one based on mutual love and respect for each other as equals. Sure, it could work out, like it seemed to with her parents, but that’s not a guarantee (and let’s be real, they’re the exception to how arranged marriages go in fiction). Mitsuru’s strong, confident, and exudes an aura of power, but she never abuses those who are “beneath” her or devalues anyone’s worth, and while she may have kept her distance from others, you can see that really she just wanted some friends who wouldn’t put her on a pedestal and just treat her like anybody else. She’s simply a good, cool female character, and that’s why I like her.
Also, she’s a redhead, and she’s really pretty. Like, really really pretty. Not that the other girls aren’t pretty too, but they’re not the ones the game has consistently been pointing out their prettiness the whole time. Mitsuru’s just… very pretty, man.
I'd agree with that. Honestly, she has much more of a caring maternal nature rather than a dominating personality. Like with Shinji, she worried for his future if he didn't finish high school, but she never tried to force him to re-enroll. Just offered him a way to do so should he decide he wanted it.
She is distant for awhile, but part of that distance stems from her lack of knowledge on how to bridge the gap between others and just be a regular teenager with them. When you think about it, the only close friend she really had till now was Akihiko, not exactly the best role model on how to let your hair down and have fun.
She is also not a dommy mommy because she is a minor in high school …

Fun fact, all the female teammates (except Aigis) have unique couple dialogue when you go into Tartarus near Christmas. I believe the dialogue can occur between the 23rd-25th. You have to talk to the girls at the entrance of Tartarus and here's what they say.
Yukari: "Well, not that I expected anything different, but Tartarus isn't exactly in the Christmas spirit. But it doesn't matter I can be happy anywhere as long as I'm with-- Oh, um, uhh... Hahahaha! I almost said something really embarrassing."
Mitsuru: "I suppose we'll celebrate Christmas while fighting enemies inside Tartarus. It's not quite the traditional way for couples to celebrate, but... Well, it's certainly unique. I can appreciate that. Though I suppose the only reason I feel that way is because you're right beside me.
I won't put Fuuka's, in case you want to see it yourself. I'm unsure if you have to be maxed out to see the dialogue, or if being at rank 9 is acceptable.
Me favorite one is from P3P with Akihiko:
"We're in Tartarus. It's Christmas Eve, and we're in Tartarus."

One thing I appreciate about this game when it tells you who the final boss is is that it doesn't just tell you to go kill this boss by this date while your entire party hypes up the boss fight that's coming.
Instead, they're scared out of their minds. Yukari said she couldn't sleep at all for three whole days after what Ryoji told them. Mitsuru couldn't stop shaking. Junpei burst out in anger because he was so scared. Ken couldn't concentrate at all on his homework. Akihiko couldn't even figure out his training schedule. They're all scared while being faced with an impossible decision: How do you decide how you want to die? Or, to put it another way that's a bit more in line with this game's theme, *_how do you live remembering that you will one day die?_*
It's a stark difference from both other Persona games and other games overall, and I really enjoy that they focus on it.
To anyone who's upset about Nico's true waifu choice
Fuuka is essentially Haru without the need to murder everything in sight with a battle ax or a grenade launcher
I think it’s fine he picks Fuuka. We all knew he was going for her since before the game came out.
But it just feels like this game in particular feels like it really rails into you that there’s a “canon” choice. If you say romance someone outside the party it’s just not considered important and if you choose any of the girls besides Yukari then her being as upset during The Answer feels a bit excessive especially compared to everyone else.
I think the fact that her old VA was told to play her as more abrasive. That players seem to write her off as a bitch. And if you don’t romance her she comes off really emotional about the protagonist a bit more than if she was just friends like everyone else. Is what lead to her being unpopular with fans for a long while.
@@oreotaku4017 given that romance is actually optional in this game, I wonder if they'll adjust Yukari's behavior in Episode Aigis to reflect that change. Since there isn't the assumption that they dated anymore, it would be jarring if she still had the same reaction as if they did.
@@oreotaku4017I feel like Aigis is more "canon" than Yukari. Then again, the original game and even P3P would require you to go the harem route to get all social links so the most "canon" choice is all of them.

So it could both be read as her having dated him or her having lost him without fully sorting out her feelings on top of the grief.
Now that we know that Death is sealed inside our protagonist I can say that P3 has the best lore explanation to why you get a Game Over when the protagonist dies. Thats because the moment that happens Death is released and brings about the end of the world all the more faster.
After 40 episodes Nico Bizzle picked his one true waifu: HIS OFFICE
“I want to be together with you, forever.”
Fuuka’s face was flushed as she awaited Bizzle-kun's response. In that moment, Bizzle-kun found his thoughts drifting to those that’d made his heart flutter before. Akihiko, that protein addicted dork, ever striving to make himself stronger. Though when it came to knowledge on romance, even elementary kids would have him beat. Bebe, the sweet French boy with stars in eyes for everything Japanese. Who’d turned a small prank into a heart-wrenching farewell as he returned to his homeland. Ryoji, the mysterious one, had appeared out of the blue, yet Bizzle-kun still felt a connection between them. Ryoji eventually confessed he even wanted something more than friendship, before disappearing as quickly as he appeared in Bizzle-kun’s life. Something had stirred in him over all of them. But, here and now, Bizzle-kun knew the true feelings in his heart. Taking Fuuka’s hands in his own, he finally voiced them.
“You’ll do.”

45:20 There is actually harem dialogue in Tartarus if you're in a relationship with three of your teammates and have them on your team.
That's pretty much as close as this game gets to that, though.
Now try going into Tartarus alone and you might get romantic Fuuka dialogue. Same with if you romanced Mitsuru or Yukari and went into Tartarus with just the two of you.
I've seen a lot of people misinterpret Yukari's intentions when it comes to Junpei in that scene, but keep in mind these two's pattern throughout the whole game:
*Junpei says something either positive or negative, Yukari makes a witty remark, Junpei has a reaction and then bounces back to his usual cocky yet happy self.*
That's what Yukari was trying to provoke... except this time it wasn't gonna work, given the circumstances.
Same with Junpei here, many outright claim to hate him after lashing out at the MC (he's the same with FeMC), and yet can people really blame him for, y'know... FEEL???
*Of course he's in his right to be upset about things and of course he's not gonna be rational about it, he's just 16/17! I doubt ANYONE would be in this scenario.*
(Trust me, we'll experience a bit of deja vu sometime in the future...)

But during the clean up for the festival with Kenji, Kaz, and some of the girls, the girls will all give each other death stares if you've reached a high enough social link level with them.
I think the only other time it happens is in P4 with the fireworks festival and maybe the snow trip depending on who you pick? It's been a while though. Don't recall P5 doing anything of the sort either though
1:12:23 Mitsuru should be 17/18 at this point in the game. She's 1 year older than Minato, Yukari, and Junpei, being a third year and all
Misturu's social link really breaks when you consider that a lot of the things you do with her are things that can happen earlier in the game. You can take her to the movies during summer break, you can eat takoyaki with her and Aigis during the summer festival, and you ride on the back of her motorcycle during one of the added Strega scenes.
I noticed that too, though to be slightly fair to the summer festival scene we never actually see her eat them. Though I do acknowledge it basically suggests they all had some. Though despite the few little continuity errors in her Social Link, I still really enjoy it over all. I just find it really endearing to see her able to enjoy normal teenager stuff.
I was more bothered by the fact that even if you focus 100% on her social link the moment you unlock it, you will encounter moments where she's talking calmly about the future during her social link only to turn a complete 180 and be panicking about death once she's back at the dorm. It really feels like her social link was written to be done earlier in the game but was pushed back hard during development

I wouldn't say Mitsuru is the dom/mom type, but as her SL shows, she's definitely the sheltered rich girl type. She's smart, without a doubt, but she knows nothing about how the everyman lives.
I've suspected it was Fuuka from the very first episode when Nico saw her in the background.
The texts you get from Mitsuru as you progress her link can be kind of funny, like this one from when she's ready to go to Rank 6.
'Yukari told me, "You sound so angry 😅" and "You're so stiff 😅" in response to my messages, so I've been trying to use emojis. 😃 Is it working? 😮

The ozone layer has actually improved significantly in recent years, its nearly full regenerated even - it was damaged by freons used in e.g. refrigerators which has been banned for a long time from most uses. This issue is seprate from greenhouses gases.
I feel like Nico could have made a better episode about picking his one true waifu if the game didn't keep him from having social links with Mitsuru and Yukari for so long, but the choice was no surprise.
Maybe for persona 6, when we know you'll get to valentines day.

45:00 if I’m not mistaken P4Golden actually did do that a few times. To the point I was amazed P5 never did.
Let’s say you Romance Chie as soon as you can. Later on you can take her on a date during the summer festival. Later on when viewing the fireworks with the party and the Dojima family. The others will bring up wishing that they could have had a date for the festival. Que your protagonist and Chie getting embarrassed.
There’s also moments where if you were loyal and had one girl friend some of the party would tease you about your special someone. Using Chie as an example Yukiko will wish her good luck before leaving school that day and yosuke will be all yeah my man.
With all the extra stuff they added to P4G I hope they bring little things like this back for the next Persona game.
There is one in P5, that I can remember, of them acknowledging your love life in a story cutscene. It's when the group have a study session at Leblanc, they end bringing up the topic of marriage and all the girls can react to the players response if they're dating him. Getting flustered if Jokers says yes to wanting to get married one day, or feeling disheartened if he's dismissive of the idea.
I’m convinced they put frog meat in their Wild Duck burgers. The same goes for the takoyaki at that stand.

If I had a nickel for every time an Empress Social Link was set to be married off to an older man she didn't love, i'd have two nickles. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice.
I'll always pick Yukari, but Fuuka's a good choice too. Somehow I knew Nico was gonna romance either her or Aigis, but at least he can spend Christmas with the former. Imagine if you went harem and after Christmas, the girls force their gifts onto him. "Take my present, please... before I crush it."
This reveal was so shocking it hit harder than the entirety of the great ace attorney’s twists combined.

Something I learned about the romance options is that if you pick one, all other options are locked out and you get different non-romantic dialogue instead. I picked Mitsuru and when I completed Fuukas and Yukaris social links, I didn’t get any romantic dialogue at all.
That's not the reason. P3R just has it so that if you pick certain dialogue options at one point during the girls' Social Links, subsequent ranks won't be romantic and there will be no confession at rank 9.

That's not actually how it works. It's still possible to date EVERY girl at the same time in this game, picking one is not what locks you out of the other romance paths. There's actually hidden romance flags in all the girls Social Links, if you don't pick those flag dialogue options you'll be permanently locked out of the romance path and be set on the platonic ending. However if you do pick every romance dialogue option then it'll proceed onto the romance route, but you'll still have the option to turn them down at the end.
One such example of a romance flag option is Chihiro's Rank 5 event, when she asks you "Is she in love right now?!" if you pick "Yeah, she's in love." you'll proceed onto the romance path. But if you pick the "You're jumping to conclusions." then you'll be locked out of the romance path and are now permanently stuck on the platonic route.
@@fedoraking3611 Most guides I looked at for points when I played failed to highlight these options entirely, and I've yet to see a "Complete SL" video that goes down this road. Other guides straight up have the wrong point amounts listed, likely basing their info on past versions of the game. Having personally experienced it Fuuka and Mitsuru myself, and read numerous threads talking about it, I assure you that these special dialogue options are a thing.

Upon completing the Star social link, you gain one of the most iconic SMT demons: Lucifer or as he is also known as Helel. So let's go over his mythology.
Lucifer is most recognized as the name of the devil in Christianity and thus synonymous with Satan. However, Lucifer has distinctly different origins from Satan and were not always considered the same figure. The name "Helel" comes from the Hebrew name for the morning star which is the planet Venus. In Latin this is often translated as "Lucifer". The morning star or Venus is an important object of worship in many cultures ranging from the ancient Greeks to the Aztecs. According to the Romans, Lucifer, the morning star is the son of Aurora, the goddess of dawn. Lucifer is shown as a herald for the dawn. Ovid also described Lucifer as ordering the heavens. However, despite this, the figure of Lucifer was not associated with any particular myths. In Babylonian myth, the morning star was associated with the goddess Ishtar (the Babylonian counterpart of the Sumerian Inanna). According to myth, Ishtar/Inanna journeyed to the underworld which is a parallel to the motion of Venus through the sky. The idea of the morning star "falling from heaven" is also mirrored in Canaanite myth where the god Attar tried to occupy the throne of Ba'al but was unable to do so instead ruling the underworld. This is likely derived from an earlier myth wherein Helel attempted to tried to dethrone the chief god El but was cast from heaven as punishment, again mirroring the astrological path of Venus. This is likely the inspiration for the telling of Helel's fall from the Bible, though this is contested by some scholars who instead state that the biblical myth of Helel came from purely Jewish traditions. The idea of Canaanite myths where people attempt to reach the domain of gods before falling in both a physical and spiritual sense is also reflected in the biblical myths of Adam and Eve and the Tower of Babel.
The earliest mention of Lucifer/Helel in the Hebrew bible is in the Book of Isaiah. Here the prophet Isaiah has a vision of a falling star which is interpreted as a metaphor for a Babylonian king falling from grace. The identity of this king is debated with common interpretations being Nebuchadnezzar II who began the Babylonian captivity of the Jews, or later Assyrian kings. Another interpretation is that Lucifer/Helel is supposed to correspond to a bloodline rather than a single king. While Rabbinical Judaism rejected the idea of fallen angels, outside of the mainstream many Jewish people began to associate this particular passage of the Bible with a fallen angel rather than a human king. This was especially prominent if Palestinian Judaism as well as Apocalyptic Judaism such as that associated with the Dead Sea Scrolls. This idea that the passage in Isaiah was associated with a fallen angel was of course imported into Christianity though it is important to note that not all associations are with the figure of "Satan". One notable instance of a direct comparison is in Luke 10 where the passage from Isaiah is directly correlated with Satan falling from heaven. The early Christian scholar Origen interpreted numerous Old Testament passages as referring to the devil and the author Tertullian associated the passage with a fallen angel. A more complete view of the association with Lucifer and the devil comes from Saint Augustine of Hippo whose writings would become a major influence on western demonology. According to Augustine, the devil was the first and final cause of evil, rejecting the idea that Satan fell before creation. He also rejected that envy of god was the fundamental sin and instead posited pride as the primary sin. He also claimed that when the king of babel spoke in Isaiah, Satan was speaking through him. Through this, Lucifer gained an association with the sin of pride. The association of Lucifer with the devil would be popularized through numerous later works such as John Milton's "Paradise Lost", Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy" and Joost van den Vondel's "Lucifer". This cemented the popular image of Lucifer as an angel who rebelled against heaven and fell to the underworld becoming the devil. He is commonly depicted as either a Sepharim or Cherub before the fall from heaven.
Lucifer is one of the most common demons in SMT and one of its most iconic designs. He is the representative of the Chaos alignment, often opposing YHVH and his angels who represent Law. He is seen as a representative for freedom, free will and liberation but at the same time is also indicative of Social Darwinism and lack of empathy. He is often depicted as the lesser of two evils compared to YHVH but is also highly manipulative. A common argument among the SMT fandom is how different he truly is from YHVH and if he's just better at selling his pitch. Regardless, his Chaos alignment often puts him at odd with Law and Neutral aligned heroes and is many times a boss, often admiring the protagonist's strength upon losing. His first appearance in the series is in the very beginning, in the Megami Tensei novels where he is depicted as the primary antagonist. He causes the death of the protagonist Akemi Nakajima and takes over Japan, leading the demonic invasion. His role was later imported into the Megami Tensei video game where he served as the final boss. Here his design was far more demonic with a monstrous face and a staff, evoking a demon king. This depiction is comparatively unusual as it shows him as a one-note villain rather than the multifaceted antagonist/anti-hero he would later become. His more recognizable design appears in Megami Tensei II. Here he is shown as a beautiful blonde angel with six angelic wings. He has a pair of horns, indicating his demonic associations and his body is covered with a flowing cloth. In this game, he is depicted as more morally nuanced, as having rebelled against YHVH for understandable reasons and wishes to restore the other gods to their rightful stations. In fact, siding with Lucifer is required to get the true end of the game. This idea of Lucifer as an anti-hero/anti-villain would be solidified in Shin Megami Tensei 1, alongside the Law-Chaos-Neutral conflict. This game also introduced his recognizable "Louis Cypher" disguise as a blonde man with multi-colored eyes and a clean blue business suit who was allied with the chaos faction of the game: the cult of Gaia. This depiction of Lucifer was influenced by the film "Angel Heart" where Lucifer was played by Robert De Niro. Further influence in this design was taken from the musician David Bowie, especially with the multicolored eyes and hair. He appears in the Louis Cypher guise for most of the game only appearing as Lucifer in the end of the Chaos route. In Shin Megami Tensei II, his sympathetic qualities are played further, giving justification for betraying YHVH and a clear regard for his demonic subordinates. It is this game that introduces his famous "devil" design. A demonic, bluish-gray figure with six monstrous wings. His blonde hair, horns and cloth are retained but his face has become far more threatening. The wings are an interesting point as there are both 6 angelic wings and 6 demonic wings. The number six is important as it ties into his associations with Satan and thus the number of the beast: 666. However it also ties into his past as a Seraph which are said to have 6 wings. His design also clearly harkens to the designs of other Archangels such as Michael and Gabriel. According to Kazuma Kaneko, his designer, Lucifer's true form is a combination of his angelic and demonic forms and will have 12 wings: 6 angelic and 6 demonic. Regardless, his demonic form is one of the most iconic designs in the franchise. This design would later be used in Shin Megami Tensei 3. Here Lucifer is a manipulative force, pushing the protagonist to fulfill the scripture of Miroku while also trying to make him a force that will destroy the cycle enforced by Kagetsuchi and rebel against YHVH in the name of free will. As can be seen, Lucifer is an omnipresent force throughout the Shin Megami Tensei franchise appearing in a multitude of forms. Alternative designs include his infamous bald headed design in Shin Megami Tensei 4 as well as a more metallic 12-winged design in Shin Megami Tensei 5, clearly harkening to angel designs like Metatron and Sandaphalon. In most games he has a variety of skills, most often almighty or ice based. His almighty attacks reflect his origins as an angel while his Ice based attacks reflects his fate as described in Dante's Inferno: trapped in Ice. His signature skill is called "Morning Star" which deals massive almighty damage and is almost always one of the most powerful attacks in the game. He is usually of the Tyrant race reflecting how he is the "ultimate enemy" of Christianity though he sometimes has a unique class often translated as "Devil" or "King" signifying his unique status among demons.
one of the things I really appreciate about megaten is how it makes it patently clear that Lucifer and Satan are not and have never been the same person. Their roles in scripture might have been conflated over the ages as different interpretations of the text came about, but from the beginning that were always intended to be completely different figures. Hell, it's entirely possible that Lucifer as we know him was completely made up because of misinterpretations of the quote comparing the king of Babylon to the morning star. But regardless of his historical origins, I think it's safe to say he's one of the most iconic demons in the series

Mitsuru's SL is kinda weird doing it during the whole "our lives are soon about to end" part of the plot. She's talking about worrying over the Group and having an arranged marriage in one scene and then talking about their impending dooms in a few months in another. Doesn't work very well.
