Umagon was obviously amongst those kids who were forced into the 100 demon battle against their will. However, he's not so much of a pacifist that the king had to implant a separate personality like he did to Koruru. In spite of his fear of fighting, Umagon turned out to be an extremely powerful demon after he decided he was ready to fight in order to protect his best friend. In all honesty, because he and Sunbeam formed a strong bond so quickly, I wanted to cry during the battle against Clear Note when Sunbeam was forced to burn Umagon's book so he wouldn't die of exhaustion. For a demon who was a big pacifist and incapable of talking, Umagon proved his worth and scored 4th out of the 100 children.
