It looks like you have a deep fireplace like I do. For my first fire in my new home,the grate was pulled forward like yours and and smoke came out into the living room. We immediately pushed the grate all the way to the back of the fireplace and no more smoke,ever!🙌🏻 (Evidently,it had to be completely back to catch the draft)

❤Selah is getting so grown up. But still the sweet soul and helpful kid with a joyful attitude. What a blessing! Living room looks gorgeous! A bit too white and sterile for me to live in but I can see myself copying the log and lights diy, that is genius. And I like the Pumpkin garland and the bowl of candy also. I just won't use gold until Christmas as I prefer the warmer colors and love to decorate with them. It fills me with joy to be surrounded with their colors! I use to do plain monochromatic matching decorating, but I have finally grown into my eclectic name ;)

Before I bought this house with a real wood burning fireplace,I had a mantel and hearth setup. Some one gave me a couple of dried birch logs for show. I actually tangled up three sets of mini lights,one with yellow bulbs,one with orange bulbs and one with white bulbs. The white strand actually had a control box with ten settings for blinking,fading,jumping,etc. I think it was the chasing setting or the fading setting that looked pretty close to burning embers.🙌🏻. All that being said,your idea is very pretty and I hope you get to actually use your fireplace.(see my other comment)🤭
Lindsey, great Fall ideas. BTW when smoke is returning from the fireplace, it usually is because the chimney vent is closed. You need to open it in order for the air to vent out. Hope it helps. 🧡
@@ourdiyary 😳Oh yes,get it inspected,we did before using ours in our new to us 1950 home. We had a stainless steel liner installed,not cheap,but peace of mind,priceless!
Read some of the comments regarding the fireplace. Even slightly damp wood is hard to burn and tends to smoke. I am sure your hubby knows this and it is probably a clog somewhere in the chimney. Might need to hire a chimney sweep to clean it!! 🥸
