    I dont go by scent notes anymore, there’s been too many times where something I would have thought wasnt for me, going off the notes, that I ended up really liking a lot.
    Its good to hear you can mitigate the differences in efficiency etc by adjusting your approach, I was speculating that was the case but haven’t used enough de’s to really know if it went beyond the few de’s I have.

      Oh yea, the scent notes will definitely lead you astray at times:) Yes, I've noticed that my comparison shaves come out close almost all the time. This tells me I have to be adjusting as I'm going without knowing I'm doing so:)

    Dear Chris I appreciate that you do not regret or consider the EJ 89 a minor razor. Daily shave for 25 USD and work done. The 316 is material and nicer to see and to handle perhaps, but the basic EJ or Muhle D86 are evergreen, basics, for everybody👍👍🔝

    Nice shave - Agree totally on technique, Milder shaver you just take more strokes (secondary passes) to get to the same result. Adding more water to my lather to match the photo's on your lather and my shaves have improved as the added water increases slickness. Stirling great stuff and totally agree on samples. Bought 9 samples of various scents that I am are great to go through. I would not have been able to buy such a wide range of scents in full tubs.

    A nice comparison shave. I do not own a 316, since in my estimation it is too expensive, or not worth its price. I rather chose to buy the KARVE razor and I am glad I did, I love it. And keep in mind that you can buy a Rockwell 6S (including 3 plates) entirely of steel, not just a steel head with aluminium handle, for LESS than an EJ 316.
    Greetings, Patrick

    I used Stirling on my shave tonight (Executive Man) and the matching balm. Phenomenal soap and the same can be said for the balm. Post shave my skin feels way softer and more soothed than with any other soap, balm I've tried. I have you to thank for making me aware of Stirling soap (as well as the Lancaster Shave Towel 😀👍🏼). There's not a heap of places that stock Stirling in the UK, but there are some.

    Great comparison on the Edwin Jagger.. Last month I sold off a few of my DE for a new DE that I have on order. It's about an 8 week lead time on getting this razor and I am thinking I will have it end of September if I am lucky. With that said, the DE89 that I started this with is the only non vintage razor I now own. Over the last decade or so I have only picked this razor back up a handful of times and only keep it due to the fact it was my first DE razor. My thinking was I can grunt it out with this razor for a couple months. I have to say, I really have been enjoying the shaves and it will not be the chore to use I made it out to be. Great jabs at Chris and the Chief I have noticed the same things you mentioned.. I appreciated not being hit with a hammer about value VS perception blah.

    Hi Chris,
    I recently bought the all stainless 3one6 as I heard the balance was better. I don't like them too head heavy. I shaved the same day I received it as I had about 3 days growth. I paired it with a blade I had never used before, the Super shave X blade. I got a super smooth shave and I was still smooth 16 hours later. So I love the 3one6. I also have the polished chrome handled DE89. I haven't used it for ages though. I hope you are well mate. Stay safe Sir!

    Hello Chris, so many good razors out there. I think that if you are a daily shaver, a mild shaver like a EJ89, Merkur 34c or a Muhle R89 will be perfect. I believe that a mild shaver with a 3 pass shave can shave any beard type and length. Especially if you drop a sharp blade in. Anyway good seeing you shave again.

    • @IAMCDB

    I can vouch for what u said. Ruffled feathers of not! I didn’t like stirling the 1st few times I used it when I started shaving. It was MY fault. I didn’t hydrate the lather nearly enough. As soon as u add enough hydration u feel the cushion start to form and the lather gets dense. U shouldn’t condemn a soap you did not use correctly! I am now a big stirling fan & find it performs just as well as soaps $10+ per puck more!

      @@IAMCDB hey friend, I have a big problem. I started shaving in 2015. I didn't know what's a WTG, XTG and ATG. So I just used a cheap safety razor and a cheap blades in 2015. I did passes from all directions.
      On the right side of my facebive got a lot of ingrown hairs. Never knew what it was. I would bleed a little and it would sting me badly in that area after the shave. I didn't have bumps there. But my hair in that area would grow in circular formats. Earlier it was straight up to Down.
      Did a little research and came to know that its ingrown hair. Some said just doing a WTG shave would heal it in the longer run. I've been doing WTG shave since 2017. The situation and the buring had become much less. But still the ingrown hairs were still there. I cant even do a cross grain in that area. It becomes red.
      Since Jan 2020 I started using a trimmer that has really improved the situation. I dont shave now. I will only start shaving after the situation becomes better and that circular hair growth vanishes from that area.
      Do you know what to do to cure ingrown hairs? There isnt much information available on the net. Some of it sounds dubious!

    • @BrettzGaming56
      @BrettzGaming56 4 роки тому

      @@bourbon646 unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a ton of info on this. Maybe your skin is just more susceptible to ingrowns. My skin gets pretty sensitive in the colder winter months. I know it is really annoying to get bad shaves, then come to the internet and it seems like everyone's shaves are going perfectly, even with aggressive razors. Maybe try a really mild razor like one of the vintage Gillette tech's? Also, be sure not to use too steep of an angle and too much pressure with the razor. Set it to where the razor blade is perpendicular to your face, then tilt the handle slightly upwards just until it starts to cut and try a pass WTG. Also, using a mild astringent such as alum or witch hazel with alcohol might help a little. Good luck, mate.

    • @bourbon646
      @bourbon646 4 роки тому

      @@BrettzGaming56 thanks man! Shaving with the grain also hasn't helped. I cant see the grain pattern in that area properly as hair grows in all directions there. That's mainly because of ingrown hairs.
      Using trimmers have helped a lot. I can see the grain more clearly now. Still a few places the grain grows in wierd directions. That's not natural because my grain was up to down in all places. Its wierd to explain this.
      My barber actually told me not to do a clean shave on that area. He said that when guys have circular hair patterns it always gives them cuts and bleeds. That was his observation after working.

    • @BrettzGaming56
      @BrettzGaming56 4 роки тому

      @@bourbon646 I agree with your barber. It might be better to just use the trimmer and sacrifice a super close shave. I know I would definitely be doing that if I suffered from ingrowns.
      Have you ever tried a pre-shave? Many people claim they don't do a whole lot, but personally, I think they give me a little more lubrication, YMMV. There are many kinds: Oils, gels, soaps, and more. Proraso makes a wonderful pre-shave cream that is widely available internationally. It comes in the green jar (menthol and eucalyptus, smells like Vick's vapor rub), red jar (sandalwood), and white jar (for sensitive skin). I would give the white a try, or green if you like menthol. The green is pretty cold feeling.

    I briefly considered the &DE89, until I read several reports about the screw breaking off in the handle. This might be pardonable in a ~$15 razor but not in a $30 razor.

      I have used a DE89 for over 7yrs now and it's still like new, the problem lies when guys think they have to crank the handle on as tight as possible then it weakens the threaded stud part in time. For my money i don't think you can beat a EJ89
